Congenital factor X (FX) deficiency is a rare autosomal-recessive disease that induces bleeding disorder. Herein, we present the 10-year posttransplant course of a pediatric patient who underwent liver transplantation (LT) with portal vein (PV) stenting for correction of severe congenital FX deficiency, with focus on long-term maintenance of coagulation function and patency of PV stenting. A 17-month-old infant with recurrent hemorrhagic episodes due to FX deficiency underwent split LT using a left lateral section graft. The graft-recipient weight ratio was 2.2%. The graft implantation procedures were performed by following the standard pediatric split LT procedure. Nevertheless, a wall stent was inserted due to PV anastomotic stenosis on posttransplant day 1. Graft function recovered slowly because of partial parenchyma infarct, and the patient was discharged at 46 days after LT operation. The FX activity started to increase soon after LT and gradually normalized; the coagulation profiles have been maintained well for the past 10 years. The patient has been doing well for the past 10 years after LT without any episodes of abnormal bleeding. Due to the risk of vascular complications owed to PV stenting, life-long follow-up is mandatory with special attention until attainment of complete physical growth to adolescent and adulthood.
Effects of Isoflavonoids on Mouse Lymphocyte Proliferation In Vitro
Namgoong, Soon-Young,Lee, Chang-Hee,Lim, Hyun-Pyo The Pharmaceutical Society of Korea 1994 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.17 No.4
The suppressive activity of isoflavonoids against lymphocyte proliferation in vitro was examined. Isoflabvonoid derivatives tested were isflavones isolated from Pueraia radix and synthesized 7-O-substituted biochanin A derivatives. The certain isoflavones such as biochanin A and 2-carbethoxybiochainin A were found to possess the suppressive activity against concanavaline A (Con A)-induced lymphocyte proliferation from mouse spleen. Against mixed lymphocyte culture reaction, biochanin A, 2-carbethoxybiochainin A, daidzein, formononetin, genistein and 7-O-isopropylbiochaninl A showed the suppressive activity at $10^{-5}$ M. However, all isoflavones tested did not show the suppressive activity against lymphocyte proliferation induced by B-cell mitogen, lipopolysaccharide (LPS). In general, isoflavones were revealed to be less active than flavones/flavonols.

The interaction between the synergist and the dispersant was confirmed by infra-red (IR) spectrometry. We demonstrate that the hydrogen bonds forming between the synergist and the dispersant act as a key factor. To analyze the dispersion properties, dynamic light scattering (DLS), and electron microscopic analysis was examined. The spectral and color characteristics was also measured by UV–vis spectrometry and colorimetry, and the contrast ratio of color filters was evaluated. This study confirms that the prepared synergist can increase the contrast ratio of green color filter.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In the development of display devices, a color filter is still considered an indispensable component. For a thinner display panel, the thickness of the color filter also needs to be decreased. However, if the thickness of the color filter is reduced, the color properties, including the color purity and color gamut are simultaneously diminished. Therefore, introduction of new colorants is needed to lower the thickness without diminishing the color performance. In this study, four phthalocyanine green dyes were synthesized for use in color filters. The molecular geometry and absorption properties were predicted by density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT, and UV-Vis spectroscopy was employed to measure the optical properties. The thermal stabilities of the dyes were examined by thermogravimetric analysis. A dye with suitable solubility and color properties was adopted in the color filter, and the optical properties and thickness of the dye-based color filter were compared to those of the pigment-based color filter. The chromatic performance and thickness of the color filter were determined by color spectrometry and Alpha step, respectively. Finally, we confirmed that the dye could enable the decrease in the thickness of the filter and provide a superior color property.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Chloro- substituted (α positions) zinc phthalocyanine (Dye 3b) possessed a saddle core structure. </LI> <LI> The enhancing bulkiness inhibits the π-π stacking of the phthalocyanine molecules, thus increasing solubility. </LI> <LI> The dye decreases a thickness of color filter by 20%, owing to its higher color strength than that of pigments. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
Developing and Establishing a Wound Dressing Team: Experience and Recommendations
Namgoong Sik,Baik Seunghee,Han Seung-Kyu,Son Ji-Won,Kim Jae-Yeon 대한의학회 2023 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.38 No.21
Background: The existing literature has comprehensively examined the benefits of specialized wound-care services and multidisciplinary team care. However, information on the development and integration of wound-dressing teams for patients who do not require specialized wound care is scarce. Therefore, the present study aimed to elucidate the benefits of a wound-dressing team by reporting our experiences with the establishment of a wounddressing team. Methods: The wound-dressing team was established at Korea University Guro Hospital. Between July 2018 and June 2022, 180,872 cases were managed for wounds at the wounddressing team. The data were analyzed to assess the types of wounds and their outcomes. In addition, questionnaires assessing the satisfaction with the service were administered to patients, ward nurses, residents/internists, and team members. Results: Regarding the wound type, 80,297 (45.3%) were catheter-related, while 48,036 (27.1%), 26,056 (14.7%), and 20,739 (11.7%) were pressure ulcers, dirty wounds, and simple wounds, respectively. In the satisfaction survey, the scores of the patient, ward nurse, dressing team nurse, and physician groups were 8.9, 8.1, 8.2, and 9.1, respectively. Additionally, 136 dressing-related complications (0.08%) were reported. Conclusion: The wound dressing team can enhance satisfaction among patients and healthcare providers with low complications. Our findings may provide a potential framework for establishing similar service models.

In this investigation, 34 structurally different flavonoids including derivatives of chalcone, flavanone, flavan-3-ol, flavone, flavonol, and their glycosides were evaluated for in vitro suppression of mitogen-induced lymphocyte proliferation and mixed lymphocyte culture from mouse spleen. Flavonoids, mainly derivatives of flavone and flavonol, clearly demonstrated the suppressive effects on lymphocyte proliferation at higher than 10^(-6) M depending on the structures of flavonoid molecules, although their suppressive activities were less than that of cyclosporin A or prednisolone. Various glycosidic substitutions to A- and/or C-ring of the flavonoid aglycones were found to eliminate the suppressive activities of their aglycones, regardless of sugar compositions and positions of substitutions. In concanavalin A-induced lymphocyte proliferation, derivatives of flavone and flavonol having 2, 3-unsaturation and at least 1 hydroxyl group showed the suppressive activity. In lipopolysaccharide-induced lymphocyte proliferation, only myricetin was active among flavonoids tested at the concentrations up to 10^(-5) M. In mixed lymphocyte culture, some derivatives of flavone and flavonol with 2, 3-unsaturation were active and especially flavone derivatives showed the higher suppressive activities than those of the flavonol derivatives.

Congenital absence of the portal vein (CAPV) is a rare venous malformation in which mesenteric venous blood drains directly into systemic circulation. Herein, we report a case of pediatric deceased donor liver transplantation (DDLT) for symptomatic CAPV with whole liver graft from a hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)-positive donor. A 4-year-old boy suffered from CAPV and secondary portal hypertension. He was also diagnosed with DiGeorge syndrome and heart anomalies. After waiting for 4 months, a 5-year-old donor weighing 19 kg with positive HBsAg was allocated to this 4-year-old patient weighing 15 kg. Recipient operation was performed according to the standard procedures of pediatric DDLT. Portal vein reconstruction was performed using interposition of a vascular homograft conduit to the superior mesenteric vein-splenic vein confluence. The patient recovered uneventfully from DDLT. He has been administered with lamivudine to prevent hepatitis B virus infection. This patient has been doing well for 5 years after DDLT without growth retardation. In conclusion, CAPV patients can have various vascular anomalies, thus combined vascular anomalies should be thoroughly assessed before and during liver transplantation operation. The most effective reconstruction techniques should be used to achieve satisfactory results following liver transplantation.
