Malignant fibrous histiocytoma is a pleomorphic sarcoma in adults, which occurs principally as a mass on an extremity or in the abdominal cavity or retroperitoneum. It typically involved deep fascia or skeletal muscle and only rarely was confined to the subcutis without fascial involvement. Malignant fibrous histiocytomas developed in the intraabdominal organs are very rare and only few cases have been reported until now. Here, we report a case of malignant fibrous histiocytomar developed in the stomach of a 46-year old male who showed clinical and histologic features of malignant fibrous histiocytoma without any identified etiologic factors. The patient was treated successfully with surgery, and has had no recurrence since, during the ensuring one and a half yars.
Study on Improvement of Blood Stagnation by Pulsed Magnetic Field
Hee Jung Son,Jun Sang Yoo,Myeung Hee Lee,Do Gwen Hwang,Hyun Sook Lee 한국자기학회 2015 Journal of Magnetics Vol.20 No.2
This study explored the effect of pulsed magnetic field (PMF) stimulus on the improvement of blood stagnation by means of photoplethysmography (PPG). Our stimulus system was designed to generate PMF with a maximum intensity variation of 0.20 T at a transition time of 160 μs, with pulse intervals of 1 Hz. In order to quantitatively estimate vascular condition, indices such as blood vessel tension (BVT), stress power (SP), differential pulse wave index (DPI) and remained blood volume (RBV) were calculated from the second derivative of the PPG signal and power density spectrum (PDS). Our results showed that non-invasive PMF stimulus was effective in improving blood stagnation. Therefore, it may be concluded that appropriate PMF stimulus affects the blood circulatory system.

The paper discusses the main problems in induction motor diagnosis by motor current and vibration signals, possible faults and effects produced by these faults in the signal spectrums. Decision Tree is introduced as a tool to diagnose the motor status, this expert system is implemented to detect the incipient defects, supervise and predict them, and plan the maintenance of the motor.

Background/Aims: To determine the effi cacy and safety of low-dose tacrolimus in Korean rheumatoid arthritis (RA) subjects with an inadequate response to methotrexate (MTX). Methods: This was a multicenter, open-label study conducted at five Korean sites. Fifty-six patients with active RA, despite treatment for ≥ 1 month with a stable, maximally tolerated dosage of oral MTX (median dosage, 15 mg/wk), were enrolled and received 1.5 mg/day of tacrolimus as a single oral dose once per day for 16 weeks while continuing to receive MTX. All other disease-modifying anti- rheumatic drugs were discontinued, whereas stable dosages of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and oral corticosteroids (≤ 10 mg/day of prednisone or an equivalent corticosteroid) were allowed. The primary clinical response criterion was the American College of Rheumatology’s definition of 20% improvement (ACR20) at the end of treatment. Results: The ACR20 response rate was 42.9% (24 of 56 patients) in patients who had received tacrolimus at least once. The overall ACR50 and ACR70 responses at the end of treatment for all patients were 30.4% and 10.7%, respectively. Throughout the treatment period, 37 patients experienced 71 adverse events (AEs) in total, and four patients left the study because of AEs. In addition, 15 patients in total experienced treatment-related AEs. Throughout the treatment period, two patients were reported to experience two serious AEs, and one patient left the study because of a serious AE. Conclusions: In patients whose active RA persists despite treatment with MTX, low-dose tacrolimus in combination with MTX appears to be safe and well tolerated, and provides clinical benefit.

Objectives To investigate the trends in clinical study on rheumatoid arthritis in all academic fields in Korea. Methods We searched seven Korean web databases for clinical studies published from 2008 to 2021. All identified studies were reviewed and classified by the year of publication, academic field, and study design. Results A total of 347 clinical studies were selected. An average of 26.7 studies were published each year. Regarding the distribution of studies by academic fields, 309 studies were published in the medical field and 17 studies were published during the same period in Korean medicine, and 21 studies were published in other fields. The distribution of studies by study design was as follows: 8 studies, meta-analyses; 5 studies, systematic reviews; 16 studies, experimental studies; and 318 studies, observational studies. Conclusions Multidisciplinary access and management are required for the early diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis, effective management of disease progression, and prevention of rheumatoid joint deformities. Additionally, study design with high-level of evidence on the intervention of rheumatoid arthritis are warranted. (J Korean Med Rehabil 2021;31(3):19-29)

Sodium-dependent vitamin C transporters (SVCTs) is known to transport the reduced form of ascorbic acid into the cell, whereas the oxidized form of vitamin C (VC) is moved through a facilitative sugar transporter, such as glucose transporter (GLUT). With regard to the distribution of SVCT1 and -2 within the various organs, they were reported to be expressed in different types of cells. Especially in the central nervous system, only SVCT2 mRNA was expressed mainly in neurons and some types of neuroglial cells. However, data on the expression of SVCT proteins in the brain are scant. Therefore, we tried to develop comprehensive data on the distribution of SVCT proteins in adult rat brain by using immunohistochemical techniques for the first time. In our study, SVCT2 immunoreactivities (IRs) were intensely localized in the neurons of cerebral cortex, hippocampus, and Purkinje cells of cerebellum, and much weaker SVCT2 IRs were found in the other brain regions. Judging from double-immunohistochemical data, most of the cells expressing SVCT2 IRs were likely to be neurons or microglia, even though the cells in choroids plexus or ependymal cells around the ventricles also exhibited SVCT2 IRs. Complete mapping of the distribution of SVCT2 IRs was available by using a semiquantitative method. The subcellular localization of SVCT proteins is necessary for understanding the exact role of the protein, so the current overall mapping of SVCT IRs in the rat brain could be the basis for further studies on related subjects. © 2006 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

Background: Dandruff is a common complaint, and is suffered by up to 50% of the population at some time. Malassezia yeasts, which comprise part of the normal skin flora, might be a critical factor in this disease, as they have been found in higher proportions in patients with seborrheic dermatitis or dandruff, its milder form. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy of 4 weeks of treatment with 1% zinc pyrithione (ZP) shampoo. Methods: A randomized, double-blind, 4-week treatment period was preceded by a 1-week run-in period. A total of 30 patients were enrolled in this study. Assessments included the patient`s subjective score (PSS) and the investigator`s assessment score (IAS), images of the affected scalp area, the severity of sebum production, and the erythema and moisturizing effect of the shampoo. Results: 1% ZP shampoo significantly reduced the extent and severity of scaling, as measured by folliscope imaging on visit 2 (p=0.0391) and visit 3 (p=0.0381), as well as pruritus related to the disease as measured by the grading systems, PSS (p=0.0352) and IAS (p=0.0142). Additionally, the results of this study show that a treatment regimen with 1% ZP shampoo significantly reduced scalp sebum production as measured by a sebumeter. Erythema measured by the chromameter was not as meaningful. The corneometric values were slightly increased in the group treated with 1% ZP shampoo but not in the group treated with ZP-free shampoo. Side effects of the ZP shampoo were quite mild and tolerable, and were observed only in a small group of patients. Conclusion: 1% ZP shampoo appears to be both effective and well-tolerated when used for the treatment of dandruff. (Korean J Dermatol 2009;47(8):875~883)
