        Topic diffusion analysis of a weighted citation network in biomedical literature : JOURNAL OF THE ASSOCIATION FOR INFORMATION SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

        <P>In this study, we propose a framework for detecting topic evolutions in weighted citation networks. Citation networks are important in studying knowledge flows; however, citation network analysis has primarily focused on binary networks in which the individual citation influences of each cited paper in a citing paper are considered identical, even though not all cited papers have a significant influence on the cited publication. Accordingly, it is necessary to build and analyze a citation network comprising scholarly publications that notably impact one another, thus identifying topic evolution in a more precise manner. To measure the strength of citation influence and identify paper topics, we employ a citation influence topic model primarily based on topical inheritance between cited and citing papers. Using scholarly publications in the field of the protein p53 as a case study, we build a citation network, filter it using citation influence values, and examine the diffusion of topics not only in the field but also in the subfields of p53.</P>

      • Relation extraction for biological pathway construction using node2vec

        <P><B>Background</B></P><P>Systems biology is an important field for understanding whole biological mechanisms composed of interactions between biological components. One approach for understanding complex and diverse mechanisms is to analyze biological pathways. However, because these pathways consist of important interactions and information on these interactions is disseminated in a large number of biomedical reports, text-mining techniques are essential for extracting these relationships automatically.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>In this study, we applied node2vec, an algorithmic framework for feature learning in networks, for relationship extraction. To this end, we extracted genes from paper abstracts using pkde4j, a text-mining tool for detecting entities and relationships. Using the extracted genes, a co-occurrence network was constructed and node2vec was used with the network to generate a latent representation. To demonstrate the efficacy of node2vec in extracting relationships between genes, performance was evaluated for gene-gene interactions involved in a type 2 diabetes pathway. Moreover, we compared the results of node2vec to those of baseline methods such as co-occurrence and DeepWalk.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>Node2vec outperformed existing methods in detecting relationships in the type 2 diabetes pathway, demonstrating that this method is appropriate for capturing the relatedness between pairs of biological entities involved in biological pathways. The results demonstrated that node2vec is useful for automatic pathway construction.</P>

        견운모를 이용한 벽마감용 천연페인트 제조

        급격한 도시화와 인구 증가로 인한 건물의 밀폐성 증가로 심각한 실내 공기 오염을 야기하고 있다. 몇몇 실내 공기오염물질 중 페인트에서 방출되는 휘발성 유기화합물(VOCs)이 주요 관심사이다. 따라서 친환경적인 페인트 제품 개발에 대한 요구가 증가하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 점토광물인 견운모를 사용하여 벽마감용 천연페인트를 제조하였다. 소규모 챔버를 사용하여 벽마감용 천연페인트에 존재하는 독성물질 확인 실험을 하였으며, 2개의 상업용 페인트와 비교 분석하였다. 총 VOC 양은 trace로 권장 실내 공기질 기준보다 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 벽마감용 천연페인트에서 톨루엔은 검출되지 않았으며 포름알데히드가 trace 레벨로 측정되었다. 독성지수 분석결과 2가지 친환경 상업용 페인트와 비교하여 본 연구에서 개발된 천연페인트가 낮은 유해물질 방출을 나타내었다. 건축자재등급 실험에서 벽마감용 천연페인트가 1등급으로 분류되었다. 이상의 연구결과에서 나타난 바와 같이 벽마감용 천연페인트의 주성분으로 견운모를 사용하는 것이 실내 공기질을 관리하는데 유용할 것이라 판단된다. Due to the rapid urbanization and increased population, there is an increase in airtight nature of buildings which causes serious indoor air pollution. Among several indoor air pollutants, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted from paint are of major concern. Therefore, there is an urge for the development of environmental friendly paint products. In this wok, a natural wall paint (NWP) was prepared by utilizing a natural clay material “sericite” as a main component. A small chamber test was carried out to identify the toxic substances release from NWP and the results were compared with two eco-friendly commercial paints. The total VOCs were detected in trace level inside the test chamber and their concentrations were below the recommended indoor air quality standards. Toluene was not detected for NWP, whereas formaldehyde was observed in trace level. The toxicity index results were compared with two commercial paints and found that NWP exhibited less harmful gas emission. Based on certification rating of building materials, NWP can be classified as the first grade of building materials. Due to the above advantages, the use of sericite as a major component in NWP will be a useful technique to maintain the indoor air quality.

        유기견운모 센서를 이용한 As(III) 측정 최적 조건 연구

        In this study, the optimum conditions of working electrode with using organo-sericite was evaluated for the determination of As(III). The experimental results indicated that the peak currents of As(III) were increased as the size of sericite powders which were mixed in manufacturing for the organo-sericite electrode was decreased. The currents using polyether ether ketone (PEEK) as a support material for the electrode was considerably enhanced 12 times higher than that of the teflon material. The mixing ratios of raw materials for manufacturing the electrode were varied and the optimum ratio was obtained as the nujoil oil was 1.5 g and the organo-sericite was 15 wt%. Under the obtained optimum conditions, the peak currents were correlated well with the concentration of As(III) and it showed that As(III) levels down to 1 ppb were successfully analyzed. It concluded that the organo-sericite could be applied well to the determination of trace level of As(III) in aqueous solution.

        Arsenate and phosphate removal from water using Fe-sericite composite beads in batch and fixed-bed systems

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Natural sericite clay was modified with iron-oxide and then the modified sericite was encapsulated into beads by employing the ionic gelation method to obtain Fe-sericite composite beads. The materials were fully characterized by N<SUB>2</SUB> adsorption–desorption isotherm, SEM-EDX, XRD, FT-IR and XPS analyses. Batch experiments showed that the composite beads showed a high uptake of As(V) and phosphate within a wide range of pH and the maximum sorption capacity determined by Langmuir isotherm were found to be 5.780 and 4.446mg/g for As(V) and phosphate, respectively. The sorption kinetic data indicate that at least 12h of contact time is necessary to attain the sorption equilibrium and intra-particle diffusion plays a significant role in the sorption process. The presence of background electrolyte (NaNO<SUB>3</SUB>) or other heavy metals ions could not significantly affect the uptake of As(V)/phosphate by Fe-sericite composite beads. Furthermore, a fixed-bed column experiment has demonstrated that Fe-sericite composite beads could remove As(V) and phosphate up to acceptable level with a high breakthrough volume even under dynamic conditions.       • Efficient removal of hazardous lead, cadmium, and arsenic from aqueous environment by iron oxide modified clay-activated carbon composite beads

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The present communication addresses the removal of toxic lead, cadmium, and arsenic using iron oxide modified clay-activated carbon composite beads from aqueous solutions. The SEM-EDX analysis was conducted to study the heterogeneity of the surface and the elemental composition of the composite beads. The specific surface area of the composite beads was found to be 433 m<SUP>2</SUP>/g. Furthermore, the XRD pattern indicates the intercalation of iron particles between the layers of bentonite clay. The FT-IR analysis suggests that the hydroxyl, carboxyl, and Fe-O were the major functional groups responsible for the removal of lead, cadmium, and arsenic. The Langmuir monolayer sorption capacity of Pb(II), Cd(II) and As(V) were observed to be 74.2, 41.3 and 5.0 mg/g respectively. Kinetic studies indicate that intra-particle diffusion plays a significant role in the removal of these three toxic pollutants. In addition, the composite beads were applied for the adsorption of a ternary mixture of subjected pollutants at low concentrations and found efficient to remove these pollutants up to an acceptable permissible limit of drinking water.         의용소방대원들의 재난에 대한 인식과 만족이 자원봉사활동 지속성에 미치는 영향

        본 연구의 목적은 의용소방대원들의 재난에 대한 인식이 자원봉사활동 지속성에 미치는 영향을 규명하기 위하여 강원도 시⦁군에 거주하고 의용소방대원으로 활동하고 있는 의용 소방대원 남녀 163명을 대상으로 조사하였다. 수집된 자료는 Windows용 20.0을 사용하여 빈도분석, 상관관계 및 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 모든 통계분석은 유의수준 p<.05로 설 정하였다. 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 의용소방대원들의 재난에 대한 인식, 만족, 자원봉사활 동 지속성 간의 상관관계는 재난대책과 만족 및 참여정도에서 부적 상관을 보였고, 재난훈 련, 재난준비, 지역재난, 지속시간, 지속의지 등은 정적 상관관계를 나타났다. 둘째, 의용소 방대원들의 재난에 대한 인식도에서는 재난대책을 부분적으로 알고 있다고 가장 많이 답했 으며, 재난훈련 교육경험 및 중증도 분류에 질문에 대체적으로 있었음으로 가장 높았다. 또한, 재난 시 비상연락체계 및 비상근무시간표에 대한 질문에 대체적으로 잘 알고 있는 것 으로 나타났고, 인적 재난발생에 대한 질문에 대체적으로 보통이 가장 높았다. 셋째, 의용소 방대들의 만족도가 자원봉사활동 지속성에 미치는 영향으로 만족도의 하위요인인 중 경험 욕구, 사회접촉, 사회인정이 지속시간에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고, 지속의지에는 사회 접촉, 성취욕구, 지속정도에는 경험욕구 및 성취욕구만 영향이 미치는 것으로 나타났다. The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of the disaster perception and satisfaction level of volunteer fire-fighters on the continuity of their volunteering. The 163 subjects in this study were selected from male and female volunteer fire-fighters who resided in urban and rural regions in Gangwon Province. After a this survey was conducted, the collected data were analyzed by a statistical package SPSS WIN 20.0, and frequency analysis, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were made. The level of statistical significance was all set at p<.05. The findings of the study were as follows: First, as for the correlation of disaster perception, satisfaction and volunteering continuity, perception of disaster countermeasures, satisfaction and the level of participation were negatively correlated with one another, and there was a positive correlation among disaster training, disaster preparation, regional disaster, the period of volunteering, and will of persistent volunteering. Second, as for perception of disaster, the volunteer fire-fighters were asked a question about disaster countermeasures, and the largest group replied they were partially aware of the countermeasures. Concerning questions about disaster training/education experience and triage, the biggest group replied they underwent the training and knew about triage on the whole. Regarding questions on the emergency contact system and emergency work schedule, they knew about the two in general. As to a question on the occurrence of human disaster, the greatest group answered that they knew about it yet not well. Third, in regard to the impact of satisfaction level on volunteering continuity, the period of volunteering was affected by needs for experience, social contact and social recognition among the subfactors of satisfaction level, and will of persistent volunteering was under the influence of social contact and achievement needs. The level of persistent volunteering was affected only by needs for experience and achievement needs.
