        Armillary spheres called honchonui is to show that during the Chosen dynasty (1392∼ 1910), Korean astronomy and technology went on its own path distinctive not only from that of the West but also from that of China, both of which had great influences on it. Our study is based upon the research of written materials and the physical investigation of some existing instruments; its findings will be used for our reconstruction of armillary spheres that were made during the middle of the dynasty. During the Choson, armillary spheres were developed to facilitate the propagation of Confucian ideology, on the one hand, to improve the knowledge of astronomy, on the other. Recognizing their importance at both aspects, the kings devoted themselves to toe making and repairing of the instruments. As time went, individuals outside of the court began to participate in making them. During the middle of the dynasty, that it from the Japanese invasion to the end of King Yongjo's rule, the Korean scientists incorporated the knowledge from the West in the making of armillary spheres. The period of King Hyonjong's reign witnessed a real innovation in making of armillary clocks. Two important scholar-officials played a major role in the renaissance of Korean technology. Upon the king's order, Yi Minch'ol cast new armillary spheres with a water-operated mechanism ; Song Iyong was also ordered to make a "self-sounding clock", that it a weight-driven armillary clock which was affected by the import of a western-style clock through China and Japan. Their joint efforts indeed led to a breakthrough not only in the history of Korean technology but also in that of mankinds. In this way, they succeeded in making armillary spheres in their own way beyond both Chinese and Western traditions of horological instrumentation. To be sure, the reconstruction of armillary spheres for which this study is to lay foundation will further stimulate the efforts at illustrating the history of Korean technology.

        전기이온영동기아 초음파 미용기를 병용한 기미의 향상도 연구

        During the period from April 2nd, 2001 to May 30th, 2001., 12 times of skin care treatment using jointly with electric ion beauty appliance and ultrasound beauty appliance are performed to 20 women volunteers who are healthy and have the freckles among the customers of skin care treatment shop. They are treated 2∼3 times per week and skin care schedule are carried out as follows per day; one is from 9:30am to 12:00am and the other is from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. The skin care treatment effect evaluation of the freckles is used MASI(Melasma Area and Severity Index) score and for objective measurement, the brightness & color difference is assessed only using color difference value of the L* within the three measurement color difference(L^*, a^*, b^*) of the Chromameter CR-300, which is one of the colorimetric examination. The results are as follows; 1. The period from occurrence of the freckle to experiment beginning are various from 8 months to 13 years and the average period of the case history is 6.67 years. The aggravation factor of the freckles is most ultraviolet rays and the others are internal secretion factor and mental uneasiness. Also, there are a few subjects related to the stress. The epidermis and complex types are 8 subjects each and the dermis type is 4 subjects. 2. Before and after use jointly electric ion beauty appliance and ultrasound beauty appliance, the differences of the MASI score and the L* value are statistically indicated significant(P(0.001). 3. The improvement effects according to the types of the freckles are as belows;In the subjects group of peidermis and complex types, the difference of the MASI score and the L* value are statistically indicated significant before & after skin care treatment. But, there is no significant differences in the subjects group of the dermis types. 4. After 12 times of skin care treatment, the subjective evaluation of the freckle improvement in subjects are; 11 subjects response considerable improvement and 6 subjects a bit. The subjective satisfaction for the most of them is highly indicated. Above all, the freckle improvement and subjective satisfaction in who age is younger, case history is shorter and the region of the freckle is less, are higher than the others. As the result of this study using jointly electric ion beauty appliance and ultrasound beauty appliance, most of the subjects show improved effect and satisfacted this method. The treatment method of using jointly electric ion beauty appliance and ultrasound beauty appliance is actively performed as one of the skin care treatment programs.

        Effect of adenosine diphosphoribose(ADPR), one of metabolites of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, on the rabbit blood pressure was investigated. ADPR(10㎍/kg) induced transient fall of the blood pressure. Increasing the doses, hypotensive response to ADPR was also increased. This vasodepressor effect of ADPR was not affected by hexamethonium, atropine, propranolol, methysergide and promethazine pretreatment.

      • 관동의대 국시 및 학업 성적에 영향을 미치는 요인 분석

        This study purposed for analysis of the factors affecting Korean Medical License Examination(KMLE) grades in Kwandong University Medical College students. Twenty-seven graduate students were evaluated with stress perception scales and socio-economic state evaluation scales. The results were as follows: 1.The students feel high stress in 'Recent pressure in past one week', 'pressure in interpersonal relationships' and 'economic pressure'. 2.The scores in 'Recent pressure in past one week', 'pressure in interpersonal relationships' and 'occupational pressure' were in significant correlations with the KMLE scores. These results suggest that the Kwandong Medical students feel stress in chiefly in the interpersonal relationships and these factors affecting KMLE scores.

      • 의대생의 스트레스에 영향을 미치는 요인 분석

        Background : Generally, it is well known that medical students have lots of stress because they have many classes of which the courses are much different from those of non-medical students. So, this study was designed for the purpose of evaluating the influencing factors on medical students' stress. Method : This study was carried out with the data of 69 students in premedical course and 66 students in medical course, who answered the survey by Kwandong Medical College, Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health in June, 1999, The independent variables are the general characteristics, the characteristics related with study, the state of health, the activity for free time. The amount of stress is measured by Korean-translated BEPSI (Brief Encounter Psychosocial Instrument). Result : The multiple recession and logistic analysis show that the grade influence the significant difference of the stress level of the students in premedical course. The entrance age, average selfstudy time, hobby and religion influence the significant difference of the stress level of the students in medical course. The grade, avercage self-studying time and smoking habits influence the signifiant difference of the stress level of the medical students. Conclusion : This result will be used for the management of the stress level of the medical students' that influences their study.

        We reported here a 70-year-old woman with small lymphocytic lymphoma who was initially presented with recurrent nephrotic syndrome and later developed multiple bone lytic lesions and monoclonal gammopathy, mimicking plasma cell dyscrasia and only involving bone marrow without lymphadenopathy or hepatosplenomegaly. She responded to combination chemotherapy, including cyclophosphamide and prednisone with proteinuria disappearing. The unusual features of this case includes : (1) nephrotic syndrome of minimal change lesion as the initial manifestion in lymphocytic lymphoma, (2) only bone marrow involvement of lymphoma without organomegaly or lymphadenopathy, (3) the presence of multiple bone lytic lesions in conjunction with monoclonal gammopathy in a patient with lymphoma rather than multiple myeloma.

        <P>The coherent unidirectional motion of magnetic domain walls (DWs) is a key technology used in memory and logic device applications, as demonstrated in magnetic strips by electric current flow as well as in films by oscillation of a tilted magnetic field. Here we introduce a coherent unidirectional motion of DWs in the strip, utilizing an oscillating field, which is described within a previous 1D model. The essential criterion for DW motion in this approach is the oscillating-field-induced modulation of the DW width, which has not been previously considered. This DW motion driven by width modulation sheds light on high frequency domain manipulation in spin devices. A comprehensive inspection of field angle dependence reveals that unidirectional DW motion in this model requires chiral DWs, followed by asymmetric deformation of the domain shape.</P>

      • Inertial-ordering-assisted droplet microfluidics for high-throughput single-cell RNA-sequencing

        <P>Single-cell RNA-seq reveals the cellular heterogeneity inherent in the population of cells, which is very important in many clinical and research applications. Recent advances in droplet microfluidics have achieved the automatic isolation, lysis, and labeling of single cells in droplet compartments without complex instrumentation. However, barcoding errors occurring in the cell encapsulation process because of the multiple-beads-in-droplet and insufficient throughput because of the low concentration of beads for avoiding multiple-beads-in-a-droplet remain important challenges for precise and efficient expression profiling of single cells. In this study, we developed a new droplet-based microfluidic platform that significantly improved the throughput while reducing barcoding errors through deterministic encapsulation of inertially ordered beads. Highly concentrated beads containing oligonucleotide barcodes were spontaneously ordered in a spiral channel by an inertial effect, which were in turn encapsulated in droplets one-by-one, while cells were simultaneously encapsulated in the droplets. The deterministic encapsulation of beads resulted in a high fraction of single-bead-in-a-droplet and rare multiple-beads-in-a-droplet although the bead concentration increased to 1000 μl<SUP>−1</SUP>, which diminished barcoding errors and enabled accurate high-throughput barcoding. We successfully validated our device with single-cell RNA-seq. In addition, we found that multiple-beads-in-a-droplet, generated using a normal Drop-Seq device with a high concentration of beads, underestimated transcript numbers and overestimated cell numbers. This accurate high-throughput platform can expand the capability and practicality of Drop-Seq in single-cell analysis.</P>
