METHYLFORMATE FORMATION FROM METHANOL AND CO ON Cu/ZnO CATALYSTS

The reaction mechanism for the methylformate formation on Cu/ZnO catalysts from methanol and CO was investigated by the labeling study with ^(13)C methanol. It was found that methylformate could be formed through two parallel reaction routes, i.e., methanol-formaldehyde reaction and carbonylation of methanol depending upon the catalyst composition as well as the reaction conditions. The major reaction route on the high ZnO-content catalyst (Cu/ZnO=30/70) was found to be the methanol-formaldehyde reaction, and changed to the carbonylation reaction with the increase of CO partial pressure. On the other hand, the major reaction route on the high Cu-content catalyst (Cu/ZnO=80/20) remained as methanol-formaldehyde reaction even under the high CO pressure.

An equilibrium study was conducted on the adsorption of chloropentafluoroethane (CFC-115, CF₃CF₂Cl) on activated carbon powder between 298.15 K and 373.15 K. Experimental data were fitted with several isotherm equations. Among the two-parameter equations, the BET equation showed the best results over the entire relative pressure range studied. When the pressure range was divided into two regions, a better result was obtained by applying the Langmuir equation in the lower pressure range and the BET equation in the higher relative pressure region. Among the three-parameter equations, the Langmuir-Freundlich equation gave better results than the Redrich-Peterson equation. The isosteric heat of adsorption of CFC-115 on the activated carbon powder was estimated. It was found to have the same order of magnitude with the heat of condensation, which indicates that the adsorption was primarily due to physical forces.

X-linked agammaglobulinemia is the most common type of primary immunodeficiency disorder. Mutation ofthe cytoplasmic tyrosine kinase gene, Btk (Bruton`s tyrosine kinase), is known to be the etiology of X-linked agammaglobulinemia. The patients with this disease manifest a B-cell deficiency and low levels of serum immunoglobulin; due to the deficient antibodies, they suffers from recurrent upper and lower respiratory infections. We report here a 24-year-old male with an initial clinical impression of recurrent pneumonia and bronchiectasis. The patient presented with marked pan-hypogammaglobulinemia and the absence of circulating B-lymphocytes on the immunologic study, and he carried a splicing mutation of intron 2 in the Btk gene (IVS2 -3C>G). This study was carried out to examine the path way of in vitro flower through embryo culture of Korean ginseng(Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer). Zygotic embryos were cultured on Murashige and Skoog(MS) medium with various concentrations of indolebutyric acid(IBA), benzyladenine(BA) and gibberellic acid(GA). There were two pathway of differentiations from the adventitious buds and shoot primordium in relation to the in vitro flower development. In this case, there are three types of flower emergence : shoot only, flowers only and shoot with flowers. When the amount of in vitro flower differentiation increased, the anther development was poor. The primary culture at 18℃ and the secondary culture at 25℃ under light condition was optimum for the in vitro flower induction.

N/A The author had an opportunity to study 480 cases with chief complaints of various gastrointestinal symptoms who subsequently underwent to 60cm flexible sigmoidofiberscope examination during the period June 1983 to July 1984 at Department of Internal Medicine, School of Medicine, Yeung-Nam University and the following results were obtained. 1) The incidence of lesions through endoscopy were following that, 48 patients (10%) had colonic polyps, 13 patients (2.7%) had ulcerating cancers among 480, the ratio of male and female was 59:41, the most common range of age was sixth decade, 27.9% of 61 cases (17 cases) and above fifth decade was 86.9% (43 cases). 2) Analysis of histopathological finding revealed that the most common polyps were adenoma, 40% of 42 cases (17 cases), the most common size was less than 1cm of 48 cases(38 cases) and synchronous polyps were 21% of 48 cases (10 cases). 3) The size of malignant changed polyps was l. 5cm and 2cm respectively in 2 cases 4) The seven cases among present series were found at above 25cm from conventional 25cm rigid sigmoidoscopy is not being reached.
