DISCRIMINANT ANALYSIS OF LOGICAL RELATIONS
( Osawa?mitsuru ) 한국감성과학회 2000 춘계학술대회 Vol.2000 No.-
Discriminant analysis is a method to relate whether the objects have a specific characteristic or not with their ``continuous`` attribute values and, for given objects, to estimate whether they have a specific characteristic or not bytheir values of discriminant scores gotten from their attribute values. The author developed the new ``computational`` method of discriminant analysis without specific hypotheses or assumptions and, by this new method, we can find ``feasible`` solutions under the conditions required by our actual problems. In this paper, the author tried to apply this new method to the discrimination of logical relations. If this trial could be a success, we can apply this new method of discriminant analysis to the problems about relating the specific characteristic of the objects with their ``discrete`` attribute values. The result was successful and the applicability of discriminant analysis could be expanded as a method for constructing the models for "estimating impressions".
Proximal Junctional Failure in Adult Spinal Deformity Surgery: An In-depth Review
Mitsuru Yagi,Kento Yamanouchi,Naruhito Fujita,Haruki Funao,Shigeto Ebata 대한척추신경외과학회 2023 Neurospine Vol.20 No.3
Adult spinal deformity (ASD) surgery aims to correct abnormal spinal curvature in adults, leading to improved functionality and reduced pain. However, this surgery is associated with various complications, one of which is proximal junctional failure (PJF). PJF can have a significant impact on a patient’s quality of life, necessitating a comprehensive understanding of its causes and the development of effective management strategies. This review aims to provide an in-depth understanding of PJF in ASD surgery. PJF is a complex complication resulting from a multitude of factors including patient characteristics, surgical techniques, and postoperative management. Age, osteoporosis, overcorrection of sagittal alignment, and poor bone quality are identified as significant risk factors. The clinical implications of PJF are substantial, often requiring revision surgery and causing a considerable decrease in patients’ quality of life. Prevention strategies include careful preoperative planning, appropriate patient selection, and optimization of surgical techniques. Treatment often necessitates a multifaceted approach, including surgical intervention and the management of underlying risk factors. Predictive modeling is an emerging field that may offer a promising avenue for the risk stratification of patients and individualized preventive strategies. A thorough understanding of PJF’s pathogenesis, risk factors, and clinical implications is essential for surgeons involved in ASD surgery. Current preventive measures and treatment strategies aim to mitigate the risk and manage the complications of PJF, but the complication cannot be entirely prevented. Future research should focus on the development of more effective preventive and treatment strategies, and predictive models could be valuable in this pursuit.
Aging increases oxidative stress in semen
Mitsuru Nago,Akane Arichi,Naoki Omura,Yuka Iwashita,Toshihiro Kawamura,Yasushi Yumura 대한비뇨의학회 2021 Investigative and Clinical Urology Vol.62 No.2
Purpose: As age increases, oxidative stress increases, sperm motility decreases, and DNA fragmentation increases. To date, reports of age-related effects on semen have focused on reactive oxygen species (ROS) or total antioxidant capacity (TAC) as indicators of oxidative stress. However, assessments of ROS and TAC must be considered within a more comprehensive context in order to correctly evaluate oxidative stress and interpret findings. In this regard, the purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the static oxidation reduction potential (sORP) and paternal age with the goal of using the sORP as an indicator of semen oxidative stress. Materials and Methods: Semen samples from 173 men were analyzed for the following parameters: volume, motility, and beat cross frequency (BCF). The sORP was measured by using the MiOXSYS™ system. The correlation between semen parameters and the sORP level was analyzed as a function of age. The rate of sORP positivity was compared between men <34 and ≥34 years of age, with a positive sORP defined as a level ≥1.38. Results: Volume, motility, and BCF were negatively correlated with age (p<0.001). The semen sORP level was positively correlated with age (p<0.05). The rate of sORP positivity was significantly increased in men ≥34 years of age compared with that in men <34 years of age (33% compared with 12%, respectively; p<0.01). Conclusions: The sORP may play a role in age-related decreases in semen parameters (volume, motility, and BCF). The rate of sORP positivity increased significantly after 34 years of age.
