Investigation of the Protective Effect of Kefir against Isoproterenol Induced Myocardial Infarctionin Rats

        Handan Mert,Hikmet Yılmaz,Kıvanc Irak,Serkan Yıldırım,Nihat Mert 한국축산식품학회 2018 한국축산식품학회지 Vol.38 No.2

Thisstudy aims to investigate the protective effects of kefir against myocardial infarction induced by isoproterenol (ISO). The rats were randomly divided into 4 groups, each group consisting of 8 rats. The control group, the kefir group (5 mL/kg/d kefir administered to rats as intra-gastric gavage for 60 d), the ISO group (100 mg/kg ISO was administered to rats, s.c. on 61. and 62. d), and kefir+ISO group (5 mL/kg/d kefir was administered to rats intra gastric gavage for 60 days prior to ISO, 100 mg/kg in twodoses on day 61 and 62). 12 h after the last ISO dose, all rats were decapitated and their blood samples were collected. Cardiac tissue was reserved for histopathological examination. creatine kinase (CK), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), triglycerides, total cholesterol, very low density lipoprotein (VLDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL), high density lipoprotein (HDL) and glucose were measured by autoanalyzer, whole blood malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH) and plasma advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP) levels were measured spectrophotometrically. It was determined that in the group of kefir+ISO, the levels of AST (p

The importance of topical metronidazole in the treatment of acute anal fissure: a double-blind study controlled for prospective randomization

Mert Tuba 대한대장항문학회 2023 Annals of Coloproctolgy Vol.39 No.2

Purpose: Acute anal fissure, a disease characterized by severe pain in the anorectal area, reduces quality of life and becomes chronic absent appropriate treatment. More recently, anaerobic infections have been noted as contributive to etiopathogenesis. This study investigates topical metronidazole’s effect in the treatment of acute anal fissure. Methods: Our prospective randomized controlled double-blind study included 2 groups of 100 patients older than 18 years from our General Surgery Clinic with anal fissure complaints for less than 8 weeks. Topical diltiazem treatment was started in group 1, and topical diltiazem and metronidazole treatment in group 2. Pain levels were evaluated by the visual analogue scale (VAS) score, and recovery status was evaluated by physical examination findings ab initio and at the 1st, 4th, and 6th weeks. VAS score levels, demographic, clinical, and recovery status were then compared. Results: There was no difference between the groups as to age, sex, pain on defecation, bleeding, constipation, and duration of pain, bleeding and constipation (P>0.05). From week 1, fissure epithelialization and healing rates were higher in group 2 (P<0.001); group 2 VAS score levels were lower than in group 1 (P<0.001) and achieved by group 1 only in week 4 (P=0.073). Conclusion: Adding topical metronidazole to treatment reduces the duration and severity of pain, shortens healing time, and increases the healing rate.

      • High-rate Single-Frequency Precise Point Positioning (SF-PPP) in the detection of structural displacements and ground motions

        Mert Bezcioglu,Cemal Ozer Yigit,Ahmet Anil Dindar,Ahmed El-Mowafy,Kan Wang 국제구조공학회 2024 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.89 No.6

This study presents the usability of the high-rate single-frequency Precise Point Positioning (SF-PPP) technique based on 20 Hz Global Positioning Systems (GPS)-only observations in detecting dynamic motions. SF-PPP solutions were obtained from post-mission and real-time GNSS corrections. These include the International GNSS Service (IGS)-Final, IGS real-time (RT), real-time MADOCA (Multi-GNSS Advanced Demonstration tool for Orbit and Clock Analysis), and real-time products from the Australian/New Zealand satellite-based augmentation systems (SBAS, known as SouthPAN). SF-PPP results were compared with LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer) sensor and single-frequency relative positioning (SF-RP) solutions. The findings show that the SF-PPP technique successfully detects the harmonic motions, and the real-time productsbased PPP solutions were as accurate as the final post-mission products. In the frequency domain, all GNSS-based methods evaluated in this contribution correctly detect the dominant frequency of short-term harmonic oscillations, while the differences in the amplitude values corresponding to the peak frequency do not exceed 1.1 mm. However, evaluations in the time domain show that SF-PPP needs high-pass filtering to detect accurate displacement since SF-PPP solutions include trends and lowfrequency fluctuations, mainly due to atmospheric effects. Findings obtained in the time domain indicate that final, real-time, and MADOCA-based PPP results capture short-term dynamic behaviors with an accuracy ranging from 3.4 mm to 8.5 mm, and SBAS-based PPP solutions have several times higher RMSE values compared to other methods. However, after high-pass filtering, the accuracies obtained from PPP methods decreased to a few mm. The outcomes demonstrate the potential of the high-rate SF-PPP method to reliably monitor structural and earthquake-induced ground motions and vibration frequencies of structures.

Algebraic Method for Characteristic Edge-Zagreb and Laplacian Polynomials of Graphs

MERT SINAN OZ,Ismail Naci CANGUL 장전수학회 2020 Advanced Studies in Contemporary Mathematics Vol.30 No.3

Polynomials corresponding to graphs and their roots have many applications including the energy defined algebraically by means of the adjacency matrix which is defined as a 0 1 matrix according to the neighbouring relations of vertices. In literature, many notions depend on the adjacency matrix and the characteristic polynomial of the adjacency matrix is used in the definition of the energy of the graph. Recently, some other matrices are used in obtaining characteristic polynomial. In this work, two important matrices, edge-Zagreb and Laplacian, are used to study the characteristic polynomial by means of rather unusual algebraic way of using elementary subgraphs

The Triglyceride-Glucose Index Can Predict Long-Term Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events in Turkish Patients With High Cardiovascular Risk

        Mert İlker Hayıroğlu,Tufan Çınar,Vedat Çiçek,Ali Palice,Görkem Ayhan,Ahmet İlker Tekkeşin 한국지질동맥경화학회 2022 지질·동맥경화학회지 Vol.11 No.3

Objective There is an evidence gap regarding the predictive accuracy of the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index for long-term major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in individuals with high cardiovascular risk. The aim of this investigation was to evaluate the predictive value of the TyG index for long-term MACEs in patients at high cardiovascular risk. Methods In total, 483 patients with high cardiovascular risk were included in this analysis. The study population was separated into 2 groups depending on the occurrence of long-term MACEs. The independent predictors of long-term MACEs in patients with high cardiovascular risk were investigated. The long-term prognostic value of the TyG index in these patients was evaluated in terms of MACEs. Results Age, male sex, diabetes mellitus, and the TyG index were demonstrated to be independent predictors of long-term MACE occurrence in patients with high cardiovascular risk. The TyG index was independently related to long-term MACEs in patients with high cardiovascular risk (hazard ratio, 1.003; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.001–1.006; p=0.011). The receiver operating characteristic curve revealed that the optimum value of the TyG index to predict long-term MACEs in the overall study cohort was >9.68, with 65% sensitivity and 63% specificity (area under the curve, 0.71; 95% CI, 0.65–0.77; p<0.001). Conclusion The TyG index was demonstrated to be an independent predictor of long-term MACE occurrence in patients with high cardiovascular risk who had not been previously diagnosed with cardiovascular disease.

Matching number in relation with maximal-minimal nullity conditions and cyclomatic number by coefficient relations

MERT SINAN OZ,Ismail Naci CANGUL 장전수학회 2019 Advanced Studies in Contemporary Mathematics Vol.29 No.4

Let G be a simple graph. So called K2 deletion process was recently introduced by Wang. A subgraph G0 of G that is obtained as a result of some K2 deletion process will be called as a crucial subgroup. Let (G) and (G0) be the matching numbers of G and G0, respectively. In this study, we study the relation between (G), (G0) and the coecients of the characteristic polynomials of G and G0. Several results are obtained on these notions. Moreover, conservation of maximal and minimal nullity conditions after applying K2 deletion process are studied. As a result of this, when G satises the maximal or minimal nullity condition, we obtain the conditions for the equality c(G) = c(G0) where c(G) and c(G0) denote the cyclomatic numbers of G and G0, respectively. Finally, for some graphs, we state (G) in terms of c(G), c(G0), n(G), n(G0) and the coecients of the characteristic polynomials of G and G0 where n(G), n(G0) are the numbers of vertices of G and G0, respectively.

Compartment Syndrome Following Arthroscopic Removal of a Bullet in the Knee Joint after a Low-Velocity Gunshot Injury

        Mert Keskinbora,Sercan Yalçin,İsmail Oltulu,Mehmet Emin Erdil,Tuğrul Örmeci 대한정형외과학회 2016 Clinics in Orthopedic Surgery Vol.8 No.1

Gunshot injuries are getting more frequently reported while the civilian (nongovernmental) armament increases in the world. A 42-year-old male patient presented to emergency room of Istanbul Medipol University Hospital due to a low-velocity gunshot injury. We detected one entry point on the posterior aspect of the thigh, just superior to the popliteal groove. No exit wound was detected on his physical examination. There was swelling around the knee and range of motion was limited due to pain and swelling. Neurological and vascular examinations were intact. Following the initial assessment, the vascular examination was confirmed by doppler ultrasonography of the related extremity. There were no signs of compartment syndrome in the preoperative physical examination. A bullet was detected in the knee joint on the initial X-rays. Immediately after releasing the tourniquet, swelling of the anterolateral compartment of the leg and pulse deficiency was detected on foot in the dorsalis pedis artery. Although the arthroscopic removal of intra-articular bullets following gunshot injuries seems to have low morbidity rates, it should always be considered that the articular capsule may have been ruptured and the fluids used during the operation may leak into surrounding tissues and result in compartment syndrome.

Geometric applications and kinematics of umbrella matrices

        Mert Çarboğa,Yusuf Yaylı 강원경기수학회 2023 한국수학논문집 Vol.31 No.3

This paper introduces a novel method for obtaining umbrella matrices, which are defined as orthogonal matrices with row sums of one, using skew-symmetric matrices and Cayley’s Formula. This method is presented for the first time in this paper. We also investigate the kinematic properties and applications of umbrella matrices, demonstrating their usefulness as a tool in geometry and kinematics. Our findings provide new insights into the connections between matrix theory and geometric applications.

Bounds for matching number of fundamental realizations according to new graph invariant Omega

MERT SINAN OZ,Ismail Naci CANGUL 장전수학회 2020 Proceedings of the Jangjeon mathematical society Vol.23 No.1

Matching number of a graph is one of the intensively studied areas in graph theory due to numerous applications of the matching and related notions. Recently, Delen and Cangul defined a new graph invariant denoted by which helps to determine several graph theoretical and combinatorial properties of the realizations of a given degree sequence. In this paper, using K2 deletion process, the maximum and minimum matching numbers of all so-called fundamental realizations of a given degree sequence.
