      • SVN-Ostrowski Type Inequalities for (α, β, γ, δ) -Convex Functions

        In this paper, we present the very first time the generalized notion of (α, β, γ, δ) - convex (concave) function in mixed kind, which is the generalization of (α, β) - convex (concave) functions in 1<sup>st</sup> and 2<sup>nd</sup> kind, (s, r) - convex (concave) functions in mixed kind, s - convex (concave) functions in 1<sup>st</sup> and 2<sup>nd</sup> kind, p - convex (concave) functions, quasi convex(concave) functions and the class of convex (concave) functions. We would like to state the well-known Ostrowski inequality via SVN-Riemann Integrals for (α, β, γ, δ) - convex (concave) function in mixed kind. Moreover we establish some SVN-Ostrowski type inequalities for the class of functions whose derivatives in absolute values at certain powers are (α, β, γ, δ)-convex (concave) functions in mixed kind by using different techniques including Hölder's inequality and power mean inequality. Also, various established results would be captured as special cases with respect to convexity of function.

        New Mg0.5CoxZn0.5xFe2O4 nano-ferrites: Structural elucidation and electromagnetic behavior evaluation

        In this work cobalt substituted magnesium zinc nanocrystalline spinel ferrites having general formula Mg0.5CoxZn0.5xFe2O4 where x ¼ 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 were synthesized using micro-emulsion technique. The Co substituted samples annealed at 700 C and characterized by various characterization techniques, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), dielectric measurements and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). XRD analysis confirmed single phase spinel structure and the crystalline size calculated by Scherrer’s formula found to be in 21.38e45.5 nm range. The lattice constant decreases as substitution of Co is increased. The decrease in lattice constant is attributed to the smaller ionic radius of cobalt as compared to zinc ion. The FTIR spectra reveled two prominent frequency bands in the wave number range 400e600 cm1 which confirm the cubic spinel structure and completion of chemical reaction. The dielectric parameters were observed to decrease with the increased Co contents. The peaking behavior was observed beyond 1.8 GHz. The frequency dependent dielectric properties of all these nanomaterials have been explained qualitatively in accordance with Koop’s phenomenological theory. Magnetic studies revealed that the coercivity (Hc) attains maximum value of 818 Oe at w21 nm. The increasing trend of magnetic parameters (coercivity and retentivity) is consistent with crystallinity. The crystallite size is small enough to attain considerable signal to noise ratio in high density recording media. The optimized magnetic parameters suggest that the material with composition Mg0.5Co0.5Fe2O4 may have potential applications in high density recording media.

      • Does Breast Cancer Drive the Building of Survival Probability Models among States? An Assessment of Goodness of Fit for Patient Data from SEER Registries

        Background: Breast cancer is a worldwide public health concern and is the most prevalent type of cancer in women in the United States. This study concerned the best fit of statistical probability models on the basis of survival times for nine state cancer registries: California, Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Michigan, New Mexico, Utah, and Washington. Materials and Methods: A probability random sampling method was applied to select and extract records of 2,000 breast cancer patients from the Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database for each of the nine state cancer registries used in this study. EasyFit software was utilized to identify the best probability models by using goodness of fit tests, and to estimate parameters for various statistical probability distributions that fit survival data. Results: Statistical analysis for the summary of statistics is reported for each of the states for the years 1973 to 2012. Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Anderson-Darling, and Chi-squared goodness of fit test values were used for survival data, the highest values of goodness of fit statistics being considered indicative of the best fit survival model for each state. Conclusions: It was found that California, Connecticut, Georgia, Iowa, New Mexico, and Washington followed the Burr probability distribution, while the Dagum probability distribution gave the best fit for Michigan and Utah, and Hawaii followed the Gamma probability distribution. These findings highlight differences between states through selected sociodemographic variables and also demonstrate probability modeling differences in breast cancer survival times. The results of this study can be used to guide healthcare providers and researchers for further investigations into social and environmental factors in order to reduce the occurrence of and mortality due to breast cancer.

      • Effect of Lambda Cyhalothrin (Pyrethroid) and Monocrotophos (Organophosphate) on Cholinesterase Activity in Liver, Kidney and Brain of Rana cyanophlyctis

        The present studies investigate the induced effects of two pesticides lambda cyhalothrin (pyrethroid) and monocrotophos (organophosphate) on Rana cyanophlyctis (common skittering frog). Two different concentrations i.e. 0.1 and 1% were used and cholinesterase activity was observed in liver, kidney and brain of these frogs. It was decreased upto 34.6 and 46.3% in liver, 25.08 and 57.1% in kidney and 31.64 and 50.7% in brain under the effect of lambda cyhalothrin. In the case of monocrotophos treatment, cholinesterase decreased upto 37.7 and 57.7% in liver,57.5 and 67.5% in kidney and 47.6 and 65.9% in brain, respectively.

        The Efficacy of vitamin C, thiamine, and corticosteroid therapy in adult sepsis patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis

        Background: Previous studies have suggested favorable outcomes of hydrocortisone, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), and thiamine (HAT) therapy in patients with sepsis. However, similar results have not been duplicated in sequential studies. This meta-analysis aimed to reevaluate the value of HAT treatment in patients with sepsis. Methods: Electronic databases were searched up until October 2020 for any studies that compared the effect of HAT versus non-HAT use in patients with sepsis. Results: Data from 15 studies (eight randomized controlled trials [RCTs] and seven cohort studies) involving 67,349 patients were included. The results from the RCTs show no significant benefit of triple therapy on hospital mortality (risk ratio [RR], 0.99; P=0.92; I2=0%); intensive care unit (ICU) mortality (RR, 0.77; P=0.20; I2=58%); ICU length of stay (weighted mean difference [WMD], 0.11; P=0.86; I2=37%) or hospital length of stay (WMD: 0.57; P=0.49; I2=17%), and renal replacement therapy (RR, 0.64; P=0.44; I2=39%). The delta Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score favored treatment after a sensitivity analysis (WMD, –0.72; P=0.01; I2=32%). However, a significant effect was noted for the duration of vasopressor use (WMD, –25.49; P<0.001; I2=46%). The results from cohort studies have also shown no significant benefit of HAT therapy on hospital mortality, ICU mortality, ICU length of stay, length of hospital stay, the delta SOFA score, the use of renal replacement therapy, or vasopressor duration. Conclusions: HAT therapy significantly reduced the duration of vasopressor use and improved the SOFA score but appeared not to have significant benefits in other outcomes for patients with sepsis. Further RCTs can help understand its benefit exclusively.

        Rare bleeding disorders: spectrum of disease and clinical manifestations in the Pakistani population

        BackgroundRare inherited coagulation factor deficiencies constitute an important group of bleeding disorders. A higher frequency of these disorders is seen in areas of high consanguinity. Our aim was to study the prevalence and spectrum of rare inherited bleeding disorders, characterize the severity of the deficiencies, identify different clinical manifestations, and evaluate different treatments provided.MethodsThis cross-sectional study was conducted in the Department of Haematology, Armed Forces Institute of Pathology Rawalpindi, between January 2014 and December 2018. A detailed history was taken, and an examination was performed. The signs and symptoms were noted, and the patients were diagnosed on the basis of a coagulation profile. The disease severity was assessed using factor assays.ResultsAmong 2,516 patients with suspected coagulation disorders, 774 (30.8%) had an in-herited bleeding disorder. Of the 774 patients, 165 (21.3%) had a rare bleeding disorder; 91 (55.2%) of them were males, and 74 (44.9%) were females, with a male-to-female ratio of 1.2:1. The median patient age was 9 years 3 months. The most common disorder was factor VII deficiency (46 patients, 27.9%). The most common clinical presentation was bruising in 102 (61.8%) and gum bleeding in 91 (55.2%) patients. ConclusionThe most common rare bleeding disorder in our population is factor VII deficiency. The prevalence of these bleeding disorders is high in our population due to a high number of consanguineous marriages.

        The Safety and Efficacy of Anakinra, an Interleukin-1 Antagonist in Severe Cases of COVID-19: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

        This study aims to assess anakinra's safety and efficacy for treating severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Numerous electronic databases were searched and finally 15 studies with a total of 3,530 patients, 757 in the anakinra arm, 1,685 in the control arm were included. The pooled adjusted odds ratio (OR) for mortality in the treatment arm was 0.34 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.21 - 0.54, I2 = 48%), indicating a significant association between anakinra and mortality. A significant association was found regarding mechanical ventilation requirements in anakinra group compared to the control group OR, 0.68 (95% CI, 0.49 - 0.95, I2 = 50%). For the safety of anakinra, we evaluated thromboembolism risk and liver transaminases elevation. Thromboembolism risk was OR, 1.59 (95% CI, 0.65 - 3.91, I2 = 0%) and elevation in liver transaminases with OR was 1.35 (95% CI, 0.61 - 3.03, I2 = 76%). Both were not statistically significant over the control group. Anakinra is beneficial in lowering mortality in COVID-19 patients. However, these non-significant differences in the safety profile between the anakinra and control groups may have been the result of baseline characteristics of the intervention group, and further studies are essential in evaluating anakinra's safety profile.

      • Photoreactivity of metal-organic frameworks in the decolorization of methylene blue in aqueous solution

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The effect of metal ions and functional groups in organic ligands on the photocatalytic properties of metal-carboxylates, such as isostructural MIL-100(M) (M=Al, Fe, V, and Cr), isoreticular UiO-66-R (R=H, NH<SUB>2</SUB>, and NO<SUB>2</SUB>), MIL-47(V), and MIL-125(Ti), was investigated using the decolorization of methylene blue in aqueous solution at pH 7.0 and 20°C under UV radiation. The metal-carboxylates were characterized by diffuse reflectance UV/vis measurements. The determination of the band gap (<I>E</I> <SUB> <I>g</I> </SUB>) on the basis of DR-UV/vis measurements showed that <I>E</I> <SUB> <I>g</I> </SUB> values correlate with ionic covalent parameters, i.e., the strength of the interaction between metal and oxygen in the “M<SUP>+<I>n</I> </SUP>-O<SUP>2−</SUP> pair.         Synthesis of zinc substituted cobalt ferrites via standard double sintering ceramic technique: A study on their structural, magnetic and dielectric properties

        A series of Co1-xZnxFe2O4 ferrites with x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 were synthesized using the standard double sinteringceramic technique. The single-phase cubic spinel structure of the samples was confirmed from the X-ray diffraction patternsand the sharp high intensity peak revealed that the samples are in good crystalline form. The lattice parameters were observedto increase with the increasing of Zn concentration. By increasing the concentration of Zn content, a significant increase in thedensity and a subsequent decrease in porosity and grain size were observed. The dielectric constant (ε′) of the sample is foundto decrease with the increase in frequency. Dielectric relaxation peaks were observed for the frequency dependence of dielectricloss curves. The dc resistivity at different temperatures was studied and all the samples were of semiconductor nature. Thesaturation magnetization was found to be reduced as the Zn substitution was increased and consequently permeabilitydecreases.
