      • Identification of okra shoot and fruit borer infesting okra and their distribution in Bangladesh

        <P>A survey was conducted during July 2009 to October 2010 to know the occurrence of okra shoot and fruit borer species that infest okra in Bangladesh. Infested okra fruits were collected from eleven selected locations representing 11 Agro-ecological Zones of Bangladesh and reared in the laboratory. A total of 423 adult individuals consisting of 188 male and 235 female moths emerged from the infested fruits. The male and female ratio was 1.00?1.25. The morphological characteristics of adult moths were recorded. Head and thorax of adults are ochreous white; forewings are pale white with a wedge shaped horizontal green patch in the middle and hind wings are silvery creamy white in color. The males are smaller than the females in size and the females are Vshaped at the end of the anal part but the males have thick hairs at the end of the anal part. Pupae are chocolate brown, bluntly rounded and enclosed in grey colored inverted boat shaped cocoon formed in the fruit or in the sand. Full grown caterpillars measured 1.64 cm in length and their color is brownish with white streaks dorsally and pale yellow ventrally, without finger tipped process. The recorded morphological characteristics ware compared with standard key and the insects were identified as Earias vittella belonging to the family Noctuidae.Bangladesh J. Agril.       • Effectiveness of some selected insecticides and botanicals against okra shoot and fruit borer

        <P>An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of some selected insecticides and botanicals against okra shoot and fruit borer Earias vittella F. under field conditions. The insecticides tested were Relothrin 10EC @ 1ml l-1, Marshal 20EC @ 2ml l-1and Riva 2.5 EC @ ml l-1; and the botanicals were NSKE @ 50g l-1, Neem leaf extract @ 100g l-1 and Bishkatali leaf extract @ 100g l-1. An additional treatment of Mechanical control (hand picking) and an untreated control were maintained in the experiment for comparison. All treatments were applied at 15 days interval. Shoot infestation was the lowest in Marshal 20EC treated plot (4.34% at pre-fruiting and 3.55% at fruiting stage) and the highest was in untreated control plot (21.4%). The lowest fruit infestation by okra shoot and fruit borer was obtained with Marshal 20EC (5.07% n/n and 3.65% w/w) followed by Relothrin 10EC (5.43% n/n and 4.27% w/w) and the highest infestation was observed under untreated control plot (19.67% n/n and 19.81% w/w). The reduction of fruit infestation over untreated control ranged from 56.93-81.55% by number and 43.47-74.22% by weight. The highest marketable yield (10.46 t ha-1) was obtained in Marshal 20EC treated plot followed by in Relothrin 10EC 10.30 t ha-1 with the maximum benefit cost ratio (BCR) 6.72.Bangladesh J. Agril.       • Management of brinjal shoot and fruit borer leucinodes orbonalis guenee using different approaches

        <P>The present study was conducted during October 2014 to June 2015 in the farm of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU), Gazipur to find out the most effective management option (s) against brinjal shoot and fruit borer (BSFB) with 6 treatments namely, Beauveria bassiana, 1´109 CFU @ g l-1, Bioneem 0.3 EC (Azadirachtin) @ 1.5 ml l-1, Tracer 45 SC (Spinosad) @ 0.4 ml l-1, Vertimec 1.8 EC (Abamectin) @ 1.2 ml l-1 of water, Mechanical control (hand picking) with clean cultivation and untreated control. Results revealed that shoot infestation at pre-fruiting stage was the lowest in Bioneem 0.3 EC (4.34%) and at fruiting stage in Tracer 45 SC treated plot (7.75%) and the highest was in untreated control plot (17.94% at pre-fruiting stage and 39.46 at fruiting stage). The lowest fruit infestation by BSFB was obtained with Tracer 45 SC (8.16% n/n and 10.0% w/w) followed by B. bassiana, 1´109 CFU (23.23% n/n and 18.27% w/w) and the highest infestation was observed under untreated control plot (48.59% n/n and 32.09% w/w). Percent reduction of infested fruit by number (83.21%) and weight (68.84%) over untreated control was higher in Tracer 45 SC treated plot resulting significantly higher marketable yield. Therefore, the significant highest marketable yield (34.39 t ha-1) was harvested in the plot treated with Tracer 45 SC followed by 22.78 t ha-1 with B. bassiana, 1´109 CFU and 19.26 t ha-1 from Vertimec 1.8 EC treated plot. The highest benefit cost ratio of 3.05 was obtained from Tracer 45 SC followed by 2.93 in B. bassiana, 1´109 CFU and 2.89 with Vertimec 1.8 EC sprayed plot.Bangladesh J. Agril.       • Hepatoprotective effect of kasni against aflatoxin B<sub>1</sub> induced hepatic damage in mice

        The efficacy of alcoholic extract of Kasni (Cichorium intybus L.) to control hepatic damage induced by aflatoxin $B_1$ was explored in Swiss albino mice. Aflatoxin $B_1$ was administered orally to the mice with a daily dose of $66.6{\mu}g/kg$ body weight till three months. A signifi-cant increased in thio barbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) levels with concomitant reduction in enzymatic (glutathione-s-transferase, glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, and catalase) and nonenzymatic (reduced glutathione) antioxidants were shown in aflatoxin treated group of mice. However, there was a significant reduction in increased TBARS levels and elevation in enzymatic. and non enzymatic antioxidant levels in group of mice which received alcoholic extract of kasni (300 mg/kg bw / day) along with aflatoxin. Histopathological analysis of liver samples also confirmed the hepatoprotective effect of kasni extract. These results suggest that kasni shows hepatoprotective effect against aflatoxin $B_1$ induced hepatic damage in mice.

        The true myxoma of the retroperitoneal region is a relatively rare neoplasm of primitive mesenchyme, which is generally being, however, recurrences frequently develop after incomplete surgery. A pelvic retroperitoneal myxoma was operated at the Department od Obstetrics and Gynecology, Medical College Hospital, Pusan National University and a follow-up period of 2year and 2 month has been obtained with no recurrence. The patient was a 32-year-old Korean female in 1967. In 1961, the patient underwent abdominal total hysterectomy and left salpingo-oophorectomy for destructive mole. In October, 1967, a right lower abdominal mass was palpated and on November 27, 1967, the pelvic retroperitoneal mass was enucleated and the right tube and ovary were infact. The operative specimen was an ovoid,, white-gray, and soft mass, weighing approximately 410gm, and the microscopic diagnosis was retroperitoneal myxoma.

        제대진결절로 인한 자궁내 태아사망의 1예

        A tight true knot of the umbilical cord was formed at the third trimester of pregnancy and death of the fetus resulted in the uterus. The patient was a 34-year-old Korean female, gravida V and para iv. The last mestrual period was on June 25, 1963 and she had quickening in November, 1963. The fetal movement ceased on March 16, 1964. Therefore, on March 21, 1964, she was admitted and membrane rupture was artificially performed. Eight hours later a macerated male fetus was delivered and a true knot was seen at the middle part of the umbilical cord(Fig.1).

      • Effect of oil and aqueous extract of Neem (Azadirachta indica) seeds on growth of Aspergillus species and biosynthesis of aflatoxin

        Aflatoxin contamination is a major problem in several food crops. Aflatoxin, a mycotoxin, produced by Aspergillus flavus has gained immense concern in the scientific world because of its tremendous harmful effects. The study was focused to see the effect of oil and aqueous extract of neem (Azadirachta indica) seeds on the growth of Aspergillus and production of aflatoxin by the mold. Various amounts of neem oil $(5\;-\;50\;{\mu}l/ml)$ and aqueous extract of neem (5 - 50 mg/ml) were used both in the broth as well as the solid medium. Fungistatic (MIC) and minimal fungicidal concentrations (MFC) were found to be $10\;{\mu}l/ml$ and $50\;{\mu}l/ml$ respectively for neem seed oil. At the concentration of $5\;{\mu}l/ml$ neem oil and 5 mg/ml of aqueous extract, a significant decrease in the aflatoxin content was found in broth medium. Aflatoxin production was totally inhibited at $50\;{\mu}l/ml$ and 50 mg/ml for neem oil and aqueous extract of neem respectively, in both treatments. There was significant inhibition of mycelium dry weight by the neem seed oil. Mycelial growth was totally inhibited at $20\;{\mu}l/ml$ of neem seed oil concentration in broth, whereas it was not affected at all by aqueous extract. It can therefore be inferred that the oil and extract from the neem seed leads to inhibition of aflatoxin production while neem seed oil also significantly inhibits the mycelial growth. Neem seed oil thus can be used as potent, natural and easily available anti-aflatoxigenic agent.

        자궁외 전이를 일으킨 Lippes loop의 2례

        Two cases of the extrauterine displacement of Lippes loop are presentd in this paper. Case 1 is a 28year old Korean Women, para 2, gravida 2. This patient had undergone Lippes loop and the extrauterine displaced loop was found on X-ray film one year and seven months later after the insertion. Laparotomy revealed Lippes loop subserosaly at the posterior wall of the uterus and the loop was removed. Case 2 is a 34 year old Korean women, Para 3 gravida 3. The patient had undergone Lippes loop and the extrauterine displaced loop ws found four years and three months later, abdominal total hysterectomy was performed. Also the occurence, morbility, mechanism, diagnosis and treatment were discussed and briefly the current literatures were review here.
