      • A Corpus-Based Longitudinal Study of Diction in Chinese and British News Reports on Chang'e Project

Lu, Rong,Xie, Xue,Qi, Jiashuang,Ali, Afida Mohamad,Zhao, Jie Institute for Corpus Research 2022 Asia pacific journal of corpus research Vol.3 No.1

As a milestone progression in China's space exploration history, Chang'e Project has attracted a lot of media attention since its first launching. This study aims to examine and compare the similarities and differences between the Chinese media and the British media in using nouns, verbs, and adjectives to report the Chang'e Project. After categorising the documents based on specific project phases, we created two diachronic corpora to explore the linguistic shifts and similarities and differences of diction employed by the Chinese and British media on the Chang'e Project ideology. This longitudinal study was performed with Lancsbox and the CLAWS web tagger through critical discourse analysis as the theoretical framework. The findings of the current study showed that the Chang'e Project coverage in both media increased on an annual basis, especially after 2019. In contrast to the objectivity and positivity in the Chinese Media, the British Media seemed to be more subjective with more appraisal adjectives in the news reports. Nonetheless, both countries were trying to be objective and formal in choosing nouns and verbs. Ideology-wise, the Chinese news media reports portrayed more positivity on domestic circumstances while the British counterpart was typically more critical. Notably, the study outcomes could catalyse future research on the Chang'e Project and facilitate diplomatic policies.

      • THE GLOBAL DIMENSION OF EAST ASIAN PRODUCTION SHARING

Lurong Chen 인하대학교 정석물류통상연구원 2009 인하대학교 정석물류통상연구원 학술대회 Vol.2009 No.10

This paper examines the global dimension of East Asian production sharing. It assesses the role of production sharing on East Asian economies and explores the underlying connection between the global economy and East Asian economies. It shows that production sharing, either intra-regionally or extra-regionally, plays a vital role on the capacity building of East Asian exports. There exists "dual" links between East Asian economy and the global market. Based on its close connection to the global economy, East Asia regional trade liberalization and the enhancement of production sharing can be mutually re-enforcing. One option for deepening East Asian regional integration could be to build an institutional arrangement based on its de facto integrated production platform. From the perspective of international trade and investment, the findings of this paper support the view that East Asia regionalism is a steppingstone rather than a handicap to multilateralism.

China moving up the value chain: What can be learned from the Asian NICs?

Lurong CHEN,Philippe De Lombaerde 한국외국어대학교 국제지역연구센터 2013 International Area Studies Review Vol.16 No.4

The excess supply of labor in China will be exhausted in the near future as the growth of the population slows down and the share of working-age people shrinks. Once the country crosses the “Lewis Turning Point”, the mobilization of resources can no longer drive growth. In order to compensate for the increasing labor cost and sustain its growth, Chinese firms will need to increase profitability by moving up the value chain. Although the overall strategic objective of upgrading is widely shared and the logic of the globally fragmented production system is now well understood, a strategic impetus is missing to make the transition happening in China. The article contributes some ideas to this debate. Since the challenges that China faces today are similar to the ones faced by South Korea and Malaysia 30 years ago, their experience can shed light to help China find a solution to upgrade its industry. As an impetus, China needs to shift its emphasis from “opening the market in exchange for technology” to “exchanging advanced technologies for other advanced technologies”. It is crucial to give priority to establishing a leading position in several technology-advance frontiers. This will require the Chinese government to take a proactive role in market orientation, resource allocation and the promotion of close collaboration between the public and private sector.

Globalisation and trade liberalisation in supporting GVCs upgrade The case of the Republic of Korea

Lurong CHEN 한국무역학회 2017 Journal of Korea trade Vol.21 No.2

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to get more insight about the importance of globalisation and regional integration for global value chains (GVCs) upgrade and economic growth. Design/methodology/approach – It uses South Korea as an illustrative example of pursuing sustained economic growth via economic globalisation and moving up the value chains. It provides answers to two questions. First, how did South Korea manage to achieve economic growth via moving up the value chains? Second, what are the governmental efforts on globalisation and trade liberalisation that have contributed to this success? Findings – Among other factors, its success can be seen as a result of a combination of domestic development strategy and policies and its efforts to create a “development-friendly” global and regional circumstance via strengthening the economic ties with main powers, expanding the free trade agreements network, and deepening integration into Factory Asia. It is of South Korea’s interest to push forward the progress of regional integration. Originality/value – Many countries have successfully got rid of poverty by participating international production sharing, but only few of them have managed to move further and eventually upgrade to be an advance economy. This case study of South Korea gives us more insight about the importance of globalisation and trade liberalisation in supporting GVCs upgrade.

      • The Global Dimension of East Asian Production Sharing

Lurong Chen 인하대학교 산업경제연구소 2009 경상논집 Vol.23 No.1

This paper examines the global dimension of East production sharing. It assesses the role of production sharing on East Asian economic growth and explores the underlying connection between the global market and East Asian export-oriented economies. It shows that production sharing. either intra-regionally or extra-regionally, plays a vital role on the capacity building of East Asian exports via "dual" links between each other. However, the deep integration to the global market increases the region's vulnerability to external shocks. Accelerating technological progress and innovation could help East Asia improve its core productivity in the long run and increase its immunity.

      • A New Approach to Measure the de facto Bilateral Trade Liberalization in East Asia

Chen Lurong 인하대학교 산업경제연구소 2004 경상논집 Vol.18 No.1

In this paper, we create an index called ""de facto bilateral trade liberalization"" to evaluate the existence of de facto trading blocs in Asia. This purely quantitative approach also opens another door for us to monitor the formation of RIAs from the aspect of international trade. We find that there was no de facto process of regional trade liberalization in East Asia up to the end of last century, although there are some natural advantages within the region those leads to an intra-regional trade bias within the ASEAN+3 circle. From the evidence that Japan is in fact the most liberal economy in the region, we argue that if there were to be an RIA in the region, Japan would take on the role of ""hub"" of the arrangement and hence reap most of the advantages from the formation of such a trading bloc in East Asia.

Electrical and magnetic properties of BiFe0.97−xMn0.03ZnxO3 thin films with different Zn content synthesized by chemical solution deposition (CSD)

        Changchun Chen,Gui Wang,Lurong Wang,Chunhua Lu,Zhongzi Xu 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2011 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.12 No.6

BiFe0.97−xMn0.03ZnxO3 (BFMZ) thin films with various Zn contents (x = 0, 0.01, 0.02, 0.05, and 0.1) were prepared on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si (100) substrates by a chemical solution deposition (CSD) technique. The crystal structures of BFMZ thin films were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The effects of the Zn content on the magnetic, dielectric properties, and leakage current of these BFMZ films were thoroughly investigated. The analysis by XRD demonstrated that all the BFMZ thin films were of a polycrystalline rhombohedral perovskite structure with the space group R3c. For the BFMZ thin films, slim magnetic hysteresis (M-H) loops were observed, and the saturated magnetization (Ms) of the BFMZ thin film increased with an increase of the Zn content. Compared to the other BFMZ thin films with Zn content between 0.01 and 0.1, the BFMZ thin film with Zn content x = 0 has the largest dielectric constant and the smallest dielectric loss. In addition, With co-doping of Mn2+ and Zn2+ ions at Fe3+ sites in the BFMZ thin films, the leakage current density increased with an increase of the Zn concentration in the films.

Research on UAV access deployment algorithm based on improved virtual force model

        Shuchang Zhang,Duanpo Wu,Lurong Jiang,Xinyu Jin,Shuwei Cen 한국인터넷정보학회 2022 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.16 No.8

In this paper, a unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) access deployment algorithm is proposed, which is based on an improved virtual force model to solve the poor coverage quality of UAVs caused by limited number of UAVs and random mobility of users in the deployment process of UAV base station. First, the UAV-adapted Harris Hawks optimization (U-AHHO) algorithm is proposed to maximize the coverage of users in a given hotspot. Then, a virtual force improvement model based on user perception (UP-VFIM) is constructed to sense the mobile trend of mobile users. Finally, a UAV motion algorithm based on multi-virtual force sharing (U-MVFS) is proposed to improve the ability of UAVs to perceive the moving trend of user equipments (UEs). The UAV independently controls its movement and provides follow-up services for mobile UEs in the hotspot by computing the virtual force it receives over a specific period. Simulation results show that compared with the greedy-grid algorithm with different spacing, the average service rate of UEs of the U-AHHO algorithm is increased by 2.6% to 35.3% on average. Compared with the baseline scheme, using UP-VFIM and U-MVFS algorithms at the same time increases the average of 34.5% to 67.9% and 9.82% to 43.62% under different UE numbers and moving speeds, respectively.
