Exfoliated graphene nanosheets as high‑power anodes for lithium‑ion batteries
Duc‑Luong Vu,Yeon Ju Kwon,Soon Chang Lee,Jea Uk Lee,Jae‑Won Lee 한국탄소학회 2019 Carbon Letters Vol.29 No.1
High-quality and solution processable graphene sheets are produced by a simple electrochemical exfoliation method and employed as a high-power anode for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). The electrochemically exfoliated graphene (EEG) composed of a few layers of graphene sheets, have low oxygen content and high C/O ratio (~ 14.9). The LIBs with EEG anode exhibit ultrafast lithium storage and excellent cycling stability, but low initial efficiency. The excellent rate capability and cycling stability are attributed to the favorable structural and chemical properties of the EEG, but the large irreversibility needs to be overcome for practical applications.

The present study proposes the application of ash-free coal (AFC) as a primary fuel in a direct carbon fuel cell (DCFC) based on a molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC). AFC was produced by solvent extraction using microwave irradiation. The influence of AFC-to-carbonate ratio (3 : 3, 3 : 1, 3 : 0 and 1 : 3 g/g) on the DCFC performance at different temperatures (650, 750 and 850 oC) was systematically investigated with a coin-type cell. The performance of AFC was also compared with carbon and conventional hydrogen fuels. AFC without carbonate (AFC-to-carbonate ratio=3 : 0 g/g) gave a comparable performance to other compositions, indicating that the gasification of AFC readily occurred without a carbonate catalyst at 850 oC. The ease of gasification of AFC led to a much higher performance than for carbon fuel, even at 650 oC, where carbon cannot be gasified with a carbonate catalyst.

Construction managers often face with projects containing multiple units wherein activities repeat from unit to unit. Therefore effective resource management is crucial in terms of project duration, cost and quality. Accordingly, researchers have developed several models to aid planners in developing practical and near-optimal schedules for repetitive projects. Despite their undeniable benefits, such models lack the ability of pure simultaneous optimization because existing methodologies optimize the schedule with respect to a single factor, to achieve minimum duration, total cost, resource work breaks or various combinations, respectively. This study introduces a novel approach called ‘‘opposition multiple objective symbiotic organisms search” (OMOSOS) for scheduling repetitive projects. The proposed algorithm used an opposition-based learning technique for population initialization and for generation jumping. Further, this study integrated a scheduling module (M1) to determine all project objectives including time, cost, quality and interruption. The proposed algorithm was implemented on two application examples in order to demonstrate its capabilities in optimizing the scheduling of repetitive construction projects. The results indicate that the OMOSOS approach is a powerful optimization technique and can assist project managers in selecting appropriate plan for project.
Properties of LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 as a high energy cathode material for lithium-ion batteries
Duc-Luong Vu,Jae-won Lee 한국화학공학회 2016 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.33 No.2
Nickel-rich layered materials are prospective cathode materials for use in lithium-ion batteries due to their higher capacity and lower cost relative to LiCoO2. In this work, spherical Ni0.8Co0.1Mn0.1(OH)2 precursors are successfully synthesized through a co-precipitation method. The synthetic conditions of the precursors - including the pH, stirring speed, molar ratio of NH4OH to transition metals and reaction temperature - are investigated in detail, and their variations have significant effects on the morphology, microstructure and tap-density of the prepared Ni0.8Co0.1Mn0.1 (OH)2 precursors. LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 is then prepared from these precursors through a reaction with 5% excess LiOH· H2O at various temperatures. The crystal structure, morphology and electrochemical properties of the Ni0.8Co0.1Mn0.1 (OH)2 precursors and LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 were investigated. In the voltage range from 3.0 to 4.3 V, LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 exhibits an initial discharge capacity of 193.0mAh g−1 at a 0.1 C-rate. The cathode delivers an initial capacity of 170.4 mAh g−1 at a 1 C-rate, and it retains 90.4% of its capacity after 100 cycles.
A System for Controlling IPTV at a Distance Using Gaze Tracking
Duc Thien Luong,Hyeon Chang Lee,Kang Ryoung Park,Hee Kyung Lee,Min Sik Park,Jihun Cha 대한전자공학회 2010 대한전자공학회 학술대회 Vol.2010 No.6
Recently, internet protocol television (IPTV) has become popular. And a lot of functionalities based on internet protocol (IP) such as web surfing, video-on-demand (VOD) and voice over IP (VoIP), etc can be added to the IPTV. That is the reason why the remote controller for IPTV requires many functional buttons. As a alternative, gaze tracking technology, which detects the position where the user looking at, can be used as a new method to control the IPTV. Although many researchers studied about gaze tracking, there was not any previous research of gaze tracking at a distance. In this paper, we propose a new gaze tracking system which can capture eye images at a distance for controlling the IPTV.
Two new species of harpacticoid copepods from anchialine caves in karst area of North Vietnam
Duc Luong Tran,장천영 한국통합생물학회 2012 Animal cells and systems Vol.16 No.1
Two new harpacticoid species belonging to the genera Microarthridion Lang, 1944 (Tachidiidae) and Nitocra Boeck,1864 (Ameiridae) are recorded from underground caves in the karst area of Ninh Binh Province, North Vietnam. Microarthridion thanhi n. sp. is distinguished from congeneric species by the number of setae on the antennary exopod, the structure of leg 5 in both sexes, and the finger-like process modified from an outer distal pinnate seta of the third endopodal segment of leg 2 in the male. Nitocra vietnamensis n. sp. has the character combination of six setae on the ellipsoidal exopod of leg 5 in both sexes, the first endopodal segment of leg 1 shorter than the whole exopod, the seta/spine armature of an inner seta of P2-P4 enp-1 and four elements on P2 enp-3, and the reduction of the proximal endite to a seta on the maxillary syncoxa.
