The present study investigated: (1) the nature of recalled parental rejection and control, recalled adolescent misconduct, and adult antisocial behavior, and (2) patterns of relationships among these three constructs among a sample of 105 incarcerated women. The hypothesized mediating effect of recalled adolescent misconduct on the relationship between recalled parental rejection/control and adult antisocial behavior received some emphasis. Results yielded partial support for the hypotheses. Specifically, significant relationships emerged between recalled caregiver rejection/control, as measured by the Parental Acceptance Rejection Questionnaire-Control (PARQ-C) and recalled adolescent misconduct, as measured by an Antisocial Personality Disorder screening instrument (SCID-II-Q, APD); between recalled rejection/control and adult antisocial behavior as measured by Part 2 of the Psychopathy Checklist Screening Version and the victimization scale of the Prison Violence Inventory (PVI); and between recalled adolescent misconduct and adult antisocial behavior (PCL-SV Part 2 and PVI). Recalled adolescent misconduct mediated the relationship between recalled rejection/control and adult antisocial behavior (PCL-SV Part 2). Results were used to highlight issues unique to the presentation of antisocial behavior in women. Additionally results were interpreted in light of a hypothetical developmental pathway to antisocial behavior among adult women.
