      • Associations of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms in miR-146a, miR-196a, miR-149 and miR-499 with Colorectal Cancer Susceptibility

        Background: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are an abundant class of endogenous small non-coding RNAs of 20-25 nucleotides in length that function as negative gene regulators. MiRNAs play roles in most biological processes, as well as diverse human diseases including cancer. Recently, many studies investigated the association between SNPs in miR-146a rs2910164, miR-196a2 rs11614913, miR-149 rs229283, miR-499 rs3746444 and colorectal cancer (CRC), which results have been inconclusive. Methodology/Principal Findings: PubMed, EMBASE, CNKI databases were searched with the last search updated on November 5, 2013. For miR-196a2 rs11614913, a significantly decreased risk of CRC development was observed under three genetic models (dominant model: OR = 0.848, 95%CI: 0.735-0.979, P = 0.025; recessive model: OR = 0.838, 95%CI: 0.721-0.974, P = 0.021; homozygous model: OR = 0.754, 95%CI: 0.627-0.907, P = 0.003). In the subgroup analyses, miR-$196a2^*T$ variant was associated with a significantly decreased susceptibility of CRC (allele model: OR = 0.839, 95%CI: 0.749-0.940, P = 0.000; dominant model: OR = 0.770, 95%CI: 0.653-0.980, P = 0.002; recessive model: OR = 0.802, 95%CI: 0.685-0.939, P = 0.006; homozygous model: OR = 0.695, 95%CI: 0.570-0.847, P = 0.000). As for miR-149 rs2292832, the two genetic models (recessive model: OR = 1.199, 95% CI 1.028-1.398, P = 0.021; heterozygous model: OR = 1.226, 95% CI 1.039-1.447, P = 0.013) demonstrated increased susceptibility to CRC. On subgroup analysis, significantly increased susceptibility of CRC was found in the genetic models (recessive model: OR = 1.180, 95% CI 1.008-1.382, P = 0.040; heterozygous model: OR = 1.202, 95% CI 1.013-1.425, P = 0.013) in the Asian group. Conclusions: These findings supported that the miR-196a2 rs11614913 and miR-149 rs2292832 polymorphisms may contribute to susceptibility to CRC.

        The Heroic Journey in Yeats's Cuchulain Plays

        According to Joseph Campbell, there is always a similar pattern in the hero myth, which is called hero's journey. The legends about Cuchulain, the great Irish warrior, also follow this pattern. W. B. Yeats adapts the legends into his plays with Cuchulain as the protagonist. This paper discusses the protagonist's heroic journey in the five Cuchulain plays written by Yeats. In the five plays, Cuchulain grows, matures, weakens, dies, and resurrects, completing and meanwhile sublimating his heroic journey. In At the Hawk's Well, Cuchulain shows potential qualities of a hero. The Green Helmet displays his self-growth through the depiction of his heroic merits which make him a true hero. In On Baile's Strand, the hero suffers from the major frustrations and tribulations in his heroic journey and is stricken down consequently. The Only Jealousy of Emer reflects the hero's inner struggle and vulnerability. The last play, The Death of Cuchulainn, marks the end and reincarnation of the hero's life. Through the depiction of Cuchulain's heroic journey in the five plays, his heroic qualities are well demonstrated. Meanwhile, Yeats's views of heroism can be found as well.

        Sex Comb on Midleg Like-2 Accelerates Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cell Proliferation and Metastasis by Activating Wnt/β-Catenin/EMT Signaling

        Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influences of sex comb on midleg like-2 (SCML2) on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and potentially related mechanisms. Materials and Methods: SCML2 expression in tumor tissues and cells was analyzed using the TCGA database and/or qRT-PCR. The proliferation of HCC cells was detected by CCK-8, colony formation, and EdU assays. The migration and invasion of HCC cells were detected by transwell and wound healing assays. Apoptosis of HCC cells was determined by flow cytometry. Additionally, qRT-PCR and Western blot were used to detect the expression of SCML2 and Wnt/β-catenin/epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) signaling. A xenograft model in mice was established to verify the in vitro findings. Results: We found that SCML2 was highly expressed in HCC tissues and cells and that high expression of SCML2 was correlated with poor prognosis in HCC patients. SCML2 overexpression promoted proliferation, invasion, and migration and repressed apoptosis of HCC cells. The reverse results were obtained in SCML2-silenced cells. Further, we found that SCML2 activated the Wnt/β-catenin/EMT pathway. SCML2 silencing reduced the protein levels of Wnt3a, β-catenin, N-cadherin, Vimentin, and Snail and enhanced E-cadherin protein expression both in vivo and in vitro. Conclusion: SCML2 silencing inhibits the proliferation, migration, and invasion of HCC cells by regulating the Wnt/β-catenin/EMT pathway.

        Dynamic Path Planning Based on Fuzzy and Behavior Control Idea

        In order to solve dynamic path planning problem of multi-robot systems in unknown dynamic environment, a kind of method based on fuzzy and behavior control idea was proposed in this paper. This method designs two fuzzy controllers, which are danger degree fuzzy controller and velocity fuzzy controller. They took fully into account the position and the velocity of the obstacle and the azimuth of the target. Fuzzy rules were designed based on behavior control idea and which reflected move-to-goal behavior, avoid-obstacle behavior and follow-obstacle behavior. The experimental results show that the proposed method is feasible and valid and is suitable for the dynamic and complicated environment in particularly.

        A force-based element for direct analysis using stress-resultant plasticity model

        The plastic hinge method and the plastic zone method are extensively adopted in displacement-based elements and force-based elements respectively for second-order inelastic analysis. The former enhances the computational efficiency with relatively less accurate results while the latter precisely predicts the structural behavior but generally requires more computer time. The displacement-based elements receive criticism mainly on plasticity dominated problems not only in accuracy but also in longer computer time to redistribute the forces due to formation of plastic hinges. The multi-element-per-member model relieves this problem to some extent but will induce a new problem in modeling of member initial imperfections required in design codes for direct analysis. On the contrary, a force-based element with several integration points is sufficient for material yielding. However, use of more integration points or elements associated with fiber section reduces computational efficiency. In this paper, a new force-based element equipped with stress-resultant plasticity model with minimal computational cost is proposed for second-order inelastic analysis. This element is able to take the member initial bowing into account such that one-element-per-member model is adequate and complied with the codified requirements of direct analysis. This innovative solution is new and practical for routine design. Finally, several examples demonstrate the validity and accuracy of the proposed method.

        한·중 제조업에서 생산전략과 린생산방식이 생산성과에 미치는 영향의 비교분석

        본 연구는 중국 동북 3성의 기업에 대상으로 생산전략으로 린 생산방식이 생산성과에 미치는 영향 관계와 이들 사이에서 린 생산방식이 매개역할을 하는지 알아보고, 이를 연구하고 분석하는 것은 목적이다. 뿐만 아니라 본 논문이 중국과 한국의 제조업을 대상으로 통계자료분석을 통해 두나라 현황을 비교하는 방법으로 차이점을 분석하였다. 한국 기업에 대해 연구한 홍영락(2010)과 동일한 실증적인 연구방법을 벤치마킹하여 중국 기업들을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 실증분석을 하기 위해 중국 길림성, 흑룡강성, 요령성에 있는 동북 3성의 제조업체들을 대상으로 211부를 회수하였다. 이렇게 회수된 설문지를 본 연구의 분석자료로 사용하여 통계자료분석을 하였다. 분석결과, 생산전략이 린생산활동에 영향을 미치고 린생산활동이 생산성과에 영향을 미친다는 가설에서 양국의 차이점이 존재하고, 나머지 가설들에서는 비교한 결과가 차이가 없었다. 이런 결과를 보면 중국이 한국, 일본 등 선진국보다 린생산활동의 도입능력이 부족하고, 린생산활동의 활용수준이 미흡하다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 중국은 종전 후 생산력 낙후, 생산수준 저하로 인해 린생산방식의 도입조건이 미흡하여 한국, 일본과 미국 등 선진국보다 린생산방식의 도입이 느렸고, 활용수준의 완성도가 부족하여 선진국과 생산수준의 격차를 보일 수밖에 없었다. 본 연구는 양국 제조업의 생산전략, 린생산활동, 생산성과 사이의 관련성을 파악하여 린생산혁신을 통한 제조업의 고도화라는 학술적 의미를 가지고 있다. 추후 연구로는 린생산활동에 관련된 구성요인들을 일반화할 필요가 있고, 중국의 경우 좀 더 지역별로 광범위한 표본자료를 수집하여 정밀한 연구결과를 도출하여 비교분석할 필요가 있다. The purpose of this research was to investigate the effect of production strategies on manufacturing performances, and the mediating effect of lean production systems between production strategies manufacturing performances using manufacturing companies operated in Northeast 3 provinces in China. In addition, the current study performed a comparative analysis based on both Korean and Chinesemanufacturing firms. This research used a survey method for Chinese companies based on benchmarking a Hong s(2010) empirical research method used to investigate Korean companies. Data were collected from 211 manufacturing companies from Jilin, Heilongjiang, and Liaoning Provinces in China. Hypotheses were tested using three-step-mediated regression analysis. The findings showed that production strategies significantly affected lean production systems. Moreover, there existed the difference on this relationship between both countries . For other hypotheses, no differences in both countries appeared. The findings imply that China lacks a adoption capability and an application level of lean production systems in comparison with other countries such as Korea and Japan. This results from the late introduction of lean production systems and the low degree of completion in an application level, showing the lowlevel of productivity in comparisonwith advanced countries. The current study suggests an academic implication contributing to the advancement of the manufacturing industry through innovation of lean production systems based on the relationships among production strategies, lean production systems, and manufacturing performance in manufacturing firms of both countries. An effort to generalize factors related to lean production systems is necessary in future. Future research also needs to consider drawing a sophisticated conclusion using amore comprehensive sampling in case of China.

        Overexpression of cholinergic receptor nicotinic gamma subunit inhibits proliferation and differentiation of bovine preadipocytes

        Objective: Muscle acetylcholine receptors have five alpha subunits (α, β, δ, ε, or γ), and cholinergic receptor nicotinic gamma subunit (CHRNG) is the γ subunit. It may also play an essential role in biological processes, including cell differentiation, growth, and survival, while the role of CHRNG has not been studied in the literature. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to clarify the effect of CHRNG on the proliferation and differentiation of bovine preadipocytes. Methods: We constructed a CHRNG overexpression adenovirus vector and successfully overexpressed it on bovine preadipocytes. The effects of CHRNG on bovine preadipocyte proliferation were detected by Edu assay, cell counting Kit-8 (CCK-8), real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), Western blot and other techniques. We also performed oil red O, RT-qPCR, Western blot to explore its effect on the differentiation of preadipocytes. Results: The results of Edu proliferation experiments showed that the number of EDUpositive cells in the overexpression group was significantly less. CCK-8 experiments found that the optical density values of the cells in the overexpression group were lower than those of the control group, the mRNA levels of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), cyclin A2 (CCNA2), cyclin B1 (CCNB1), cyclin D2 (CCND2) decreased significantly after CHRNG gene overexpression, the mRNA levels of cyclin dependent kinase inhibitor 1A (CDKN1A) increased significantly, and the protein levels of PCNA, CCNB1, CCND2 decreased significantly. Overexpression of CHRNG inhibited the differentiation of bovine preadipocytes. The results of oil red O and triglyceride determination showed that the size and speed of lipid droplets accumulation in the overexpression group were significantly lower. The mRNA and protein levels of peroxisome proliferator activated receptor gamma (PPARγ), CCAAT enhancer binding protein alpha (CEBPα), fatty acid binding protein 4 (FABP4), fatty acid synthase (FASN) decreased significantly. Conclusion: Overexpression of CHRNG in bovine preadipocytes inhibits the proliferation and differentiation of bovine preadipocytes.

        The enhanced electrical transport properties of Fe3+ doped Cu2SnS3

        Cu 2 SnS 3 has attracted much attention as a promising environmental-friendly thermoelectric material. In this work, theFe 3+ doped Cu 2 Sn 1- x Fe x S 3 ( x = 0–0.2) compounds were prepared by a facile route of solvothermal synthesis and microwavesintering. Due to the shallow impurity energy level and additional energy states introduced by the d-unfi lled electrons inthe valence band, Fe 3+ doping eff ectively enhanced the electrical transport properties of Cu 2 SnS 3 , and the ultra-high powerfactor of 1.11 mWK −2 m −1 at 700 K is obtained from Cu 2 Sn 0.85 Fe 0.15 S 3 . Although the smaller grain size and the residualpores of the samples prepared by hydrothermal synthesis and microwave sintering effi ciently inhibited the increase of thelattice thermal conductivity, the improvement of electrical transport leads to the increase of electronic thermal conductivityand total thermal conductivity. Therefore, the fi nal result is not satisfactory, and the maximum ZT value is only 0.63, whichis obtained from Cu 2 Sn 0.85 Fe 0.15 S 3 at 700 K.
