Interfacial tension is one of the most important physical properties for high-precision simulations todevelop the methods of preventing plugging of pipelines in the oil and natural gas industry. This paperreports experimental data with the pendant drop method for the interfacial tension of adecane + methane + water system at temperatures between 278.2 K to 298.2 K and pressures up to10 MPa. The data show that in this temperature range the interfacial tension in the decane + methane+ water system decreases almost linearly with increasing temperature. The results also show that byincreasing the pressure of methane, the interfacial tension decreases from 53.98 mN m 1 to50.23 mN m 1 at 283.2 K and 52.23 mN m 1 to 49.74 mN m 1 at 288.2 K. The nature of the methanepressure dependence of the interfacial tension changes for pressures above around 2.00 MPa. Theinterfacial tension decreases with the pressure up to 2.00 MPa, but has no pressure dependence above2.00 MPa. It may be inferred that the decane/water interface is saturated with methane at pressuresaround 2.00 MPa and at higher pressure the interfacial tension is no longer affected by the presence ofmethane.
Confucian Ritual and Reduced Deviancy among Young People
Nicholas Lassi 성균관대학교 유교문화연구소 2022 儒敎文化硏究(中文版) Vol.- No.37
This is a study of the connection between Confucian ritual and reduced deviancy among young people. Within Confucianism, rituals control behavior and reduce deviancy. Previous studies have linked family rituals with positive behavioral outcomes for young people across a range of developmental dimensions, prompting the current test applied to deviancy. Two main tests were conducted. In the first test, a ritual variable, “family routines,” was tested by negative outcome variables. This data was from the NLSY97, in the years 1997 to 2000, with a sample of 2,846 people. It was found that family routines were linked to reduced delinquency and substance use, even after controlling for gender, ethnicity, age, and so on. In the second test, a ritual variable, “how often the mother reads to the child,” was tested by negative outcome variables. This data was from the NLSY79CYA, in the years 1988 and 1998, with a sample of 1,087 mothers and children. It was found that ritualized mother-child reading was linked to reduced antisocial behavior and bullying, even after controlling for gender, ethnicity, and age.
A Criminological Test of Confucian Family Centrism
( Nicholas Lassi ) 성균관대학교 유교문화연구소 2021 儒敎文化硏究(中文版) Vol.0 No.35
The present study analyzes how Confucian family centrism influences criminality within society. In many ways Confucian culture is Chinese culture, so to understand Confucian crime control practices is to understand China. Material relating to crime prevention was filtered out of prominent Confucian texts, and it was then evaluated and tested using NLSY97 data. The data was obtained from the first wave of responses produced by the NLSY97, with a sample of 4,599 males from the United States between the ages of 12-16. Confucian family centrism was linked to lower levels of delinquency and other negative life outcomes in males. Results showed that boy’s delinquency, behavioral/emotional problems, and stealing were significantly lower with authoritative fathering, a style of parenting associated with Confucian family centrism. Furthermore, higher levels of parental monitoring exhibited by the residential father produced significantly lower levels of delinquency, substance abuse, behavioral/ emotional problems, and stealing among boys; higher levels of parental monitoring are strongly Confucian family centric in nature. These findings hold even after controlling for numerous variables including ethnicity, age, the mothers parenting style, family income, and so on. This test of Confucian family centrism adds support to Confucian parenting theory and Confucian criminological theory.

Carbon residue obtained as a by-product fromwood gasification processwas employed as a precursor forpreparing adsorbent by physical activation. Adsorbent with BET surface area 590m2 g 1 and pore volumeof 0.335cm3 g 1 was prepared and used as an adsorbent for phosphate and nitrate removal. The optimalpH and initial concentrations for phosphate and nitrate removal were determined. The kinetics showedthat the adsorption data followed pseudo-second-order kinetics. The isotherm analysis indicated that theadsorption data can be represented by the Langmuir model. Results showed that activated carbon residueis suitable adsorbent for phosphate removal.
