      • Integrated Bioinformatics Approach Reveals Crosstalk Between Tumor Stroma and Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells in Breast Cancer

        Breast cancer is now the leading cause of cancer death in women worldwide. Cancer progression is driven not only by cancer cell intrinsic alterations and interactions with tumor microenvironment, but also by systemic effects. Integration of multiple profiling data may provide insights into the underlying molecular mechanisms of complex systemic processes. We performed a bioinformatic analysis of two public available microarray datasets for breast tumor stroma and peripheral blood mononuclear cells, featuring integrated transcriptomics data, protein-protein interactions (PPIs) and protein subcellular localization, to identify genes and biological pathways that contribute to dialogue between tumor stroma and the peripheral circulation. Genes of the integrin family as well as CXCR4 proved to be hub nodes of the crosstalk network and may play an important role in response to stroma-derived chemoattractants. This study pointed to potential for development of therapeutic strategies that target systemic signals travelling through the circulation and interdict tumor cell recruitment.

        A New Method of Gelatin Modified Collagen and Viscoelastic Study of Gelatin-Collagen Composite Hydrogel

        Pure collagen materials are expensive with poor mechanical properties, which need modifications in most cases. As the degradation product of collagen, gelatin is cheap, degradable and biocompatible, but few literatures have reported the research about gelatin-collagen composite materials. This is because gelatin and collagen have different soluble temperatures—gelatin is soluble in hot water (≥30 oC) and swells in cold water. However, a low temperature (2-10 oC) is required to prepare and store collagen solution, and neutral collagen solution denatures quickly above the room temperature. In this study, gelatin was ground into powders and swelled in neutral bovine tendon pepsin-soluble collagen solution (BPSC) to form a homogeneous gelatin-collagen mixture, in light of the swelling characteristics of gelatin in cold water. The assembly properties and gel properties of this composite material were further studied. Sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) test results showed that the bovine tendon collagen had typical type-I collagen structural characterizations with two α chains of about 100 kDa and one β chain of about 200 kDa; while the SDS-PAGE pattern of gelatin displayed bands continuously distributed from 30 to 200 kDa. Amino acid composition analysis test indicated that the content of polar amino acids and the sum of acidic and base amino acids for gelatin were higher than that of BPSC. Studies on gel properties demonstrated that gelatin-collagen mixed solution had collagenlike assembly characteristics and assembly kinetics. The moduli of the assembled gel at 35 oC were equivalent to that of pure bovine tendon collagen system; moreover, the system moduli didn’t change with time with elastic moduli (G') of about 40 Pa. However, at 25 oC, the moduli of gelatin-collagen composite hydrogel increased with the extension of time, its G' increased about 18 times within 8 h, and the ratio of elastic modulus to viscous modulus (G'') increased 4.6 times, showing a significant aging effect of structural strength. Meanwhile, the mechanical strength of the composite hydrogel was also regulated by temperature—the gel was highly elastic (G'≈3,000 Pa, G'>>G'') at a low temperature (5 oC); as the temperature rose, the system moduli gradually decreased and the elastic gel transformed into waterlike fluid at 50 oC little by little. What’s more, gelatin-collagen composite hydrogel also had reversible sol-gel performances and self-healing capability similar to the gelatin hydrogel. This novel preparation method for preparing composite materials and the resultant composite hydrogel are expected to be used in the fields of natural food gels, injectable hydrogels, cell scaffolds, drug sustained-release materials and so on, and improve and promote the processing performances, price and large-scale production of collagen-based materials.

        Improving the interfacial stability, conductivity, and electrochemical performance of Li2MoO3@g-C3N4 composite as a promising cathode for lithium-ion battery

        Li-rich layered Li2MoO3 (LMO) materials are one promising cathode materials for Li-ion batteries due totheir high theoretical capacity and without oxygen evolution. However, the poor electrical conductivityand air instability have limited its application as a cathode material for lithium-ion battery. To solve theseproblems, Li2MoO3/g-C3N4 composites were successfully constructed by combining the molten salt andball milling methods. Carbon nitride (g-C3N4) with an abundant nitrogen-containing carbon frameworkcontains a large number of ‘‘hole” defects and double-bonded nitrogen vacancy edges, which are favorablefor the adsorption and diffusion of Li ions. In addition, density functional theory (DFT) calculationsrevealed that a stable interface can be formed between g-C3N4 and LMO, which also leads to the improvementof the electronic conductivity and the reduction of interfacial impedance of the composite. Therefore, the electrochemical performance of the composite material is significantly improved. The dischargecapacity of GLMO-5 at a current density of 1700 mA g1 is 64.6 mAh/g, which is much greater thanthe value (29.9 mAh/g) of the original LMO sample under the same conditions. EIS further shows thatGLMO-5 has the highest discharge capacity with a DLi+ value of 1.94 1014 cm2 s1. These results indicatethat constructing LMO-based composites with a highly stable layered material containing unsaturatedfunctional groups should be an effective strategy to enhance the interfacial stability, electronicconductivity, and thus the electrochemical performances of the cathode materials.

        N-Step Sliding Recursion Formula of Variance and Its Implementation

        The degree of dispersion of a random variable can be described by the variance, which reflects the distance of the random variable from its mean. However, the time complexity of the traditional variance calculation algorithm is O(n), which results from full calculation of all samples. When the number of samples increases oron the occasion of high speed signal processing, algorithms with O(n) time complexity will cost huge amount of time and that may results in performance degradation of the whole system. A novel multistep recursive algorithm for variance calculation of the timevarying data series with O(1) time complexity (constant time) is proposed in this paper. Numerical simulation and experiments of the algorithm is presented and the results demonstrate that the proposed multistep recursive algorithm can effectively decrease computing time and hence significantly improve the variance calculation efficiency for timevarying data, which demonstrates the potential value for timeconsumption data analysis or high speed signal processing.

      • Lexical Recoding via Bilingual Memory in Sight Interpreting : A Combined Eye-tracking and Corpus-assisted Study

        This paper reports the results of a triangulated study that combined eye-tracking and corpus-assisted methods on lexical recoding via bilingual memory in sight interpreting of cultural specificity (CF) from English (L2) into Chinese (L1) by student interpreters. The results show that the patterns of eye-tracking and those of the experimental corpus both indicate that CF causes processing load to increase lexical recoding, and the fact that the two patterns converge on one another implies that lexical recoding relies also crucially on bilingual memory. Moreover, we argue that a theoretical element should be an integral part of triangulation. To a larger extent the theory may reflect the underlying bilingual-processing process for translating and interpreting, the more feasible it is in offering a unified account for experimental as well as corpus-extracted data patterns. Further research is needed.

        Association between Working Hours and Anxiety/Depression of Medical Staff during Large-Scale Epidemic Outbreak of COVID-19: A Cross-Sectional Study

        Objective This present study aimed to investigate the relationship between working hours and anxiety/depression mood of medical staff in China during COVID-19 epidemic. Methods The cross-sectional interview study was conducted during the period between February 14th and February 29th, 2020. A total of 291 Chinese medical professionals were recruited from 4 cities and participated in the study. Results In 291 participants, 116 (40.0%) medical staff experienced anxiety and 151 (51.8%) underwent depressed mood. In male, the level of GAD-7 and PHQ-9 scores increased with the elevation of working hours per day (WHPD) (β=0.579, p=0.003 and β=0.943; p=0.001) respectively. In female, nonlinear relationship mode was demonstrated. The levels of GAD-7 and PHQ-9 scores increased with the elevation of working hours when it was above 5 hours (β=1.432; p<0.001 and β=1.177; p<0.001), but it did not have a significant association with WHPD when it was less than 5 (p>0.05). Conclusion During the COVID-19 epidemic, we found a strong correlation between the psychological mood and WHPD. The correlation followed different modes in male and female medical workers. Enforcing an upper time limit of WHPD may help decrease the risk of pandemic-related psychological problems in medical workers.

        Dry hob with heat transfer enhancement based on field synergy and its temperature field distribution

        Excessive heat accumulation is an essential factor in dry hob wear. Given this problem, this research is conducted on a dry hob with heat transfer enhancement by field synergy (FS-HTE dry hob). Firstly, through the combination of simulation and thermal image reconstruction, the heat accumulation behavior and thermal-induced wear mechanism are investigated for traditional dry hob. Then, using field synergy theory, a three-dimensional solid model is established for FS-HTE dry hob based on the structure of traditional dry hob. Finally, a process experiment by fluid-solid coupling simulation is executed to explore the temperature field distribution law of the FS-HTE dry hob as well as the temperature control mechanism. Results show that the minimum average temperature can be reached for the FS-HTE dry hob characterized by 0° synergy angle. It is also beneficial to suppress the thermal-induced wear benefiting from the characteristics of value and distribution law for the high-temperature region. The research demonstrates a potential method for the thermal-induced wear suppression of dry hob in green dry hobbing.

        The Difference Between Nicardipine and Its Enantiomers on Inhibiting Vasoconstriction of Isolated Rabbit Thoracic Artery

        The present study was designed to study the difference effects between nicardipine and its two enantiomers on thoracic artery of rabbit. A high-performance liquid chromatographic method was used to prepare the two enantiomers of nicardipine. The thoracic artery of rabbit was removed. The vessels were cut into 3 mm in width and 15 mm in length spiral strips and immersed into tissue baths. The concentration-response curves of nicardipine and its enantiomers were obtained by cumulative administration of the vasoconstrictors. Nicardipine and the enantiomers could shift the dose-response curves of NE, KCI or CaCl$_2$ to right in a nonparallel manner and decrease the maximum effective in a concentration-depended manner, respectively. The pD$_2$' value of R-(-)-nicardipine showed significantly effective than that of nicardipine and S-(+)-nicardipine (P<0.01). There was not obviouse difference between the pD$_2$' value of nicardipine and S-(+)-nicardipine (P>0.05). The results demonstrate that the stereoselective interaction between R-(-)-nicardipine and L-calcium channel receptor is more stronger than that of S-(+)-nicardipine.

        Factors for Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection in Early Colorectal Neoplasms: A Single Center Clinical Experience in China

        Background/Aims: Early colorectal (CR) neoplasm can be cured by endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), but clinical experience and factors associated with complications from ESD for CR neoplasms in China have not been reported . Methods: Seventy-eight cases of early CR neoplasm treated with endoscopic resection performed between December 2012 and December 2013 at Beijing Military General Hospital were included. Factors associated with ESD complications and procedure times were evaluated. Results: The en bloc resection rate was 88.5% (69/78), tumor size was 32.1±10.7 mm, and procedure time was 71.8±49.5 minutes. The major complication was perforation, which occurred in 8.97% of the ESD procedures. Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that only tumor size (p=0.022) was associated with ESD perforation. Tumor size (p<0.001) and the non-lifting sign (p=0.017) were independent factors for procedure time, and procedure time (p=0.016) was a key factor for en bloc resection. After a median 10 months (range, 4 to 16) of follow-up, no patients had local recurrence. Conclusions: This study indicated that ESD is an applicable method for large early CR neoplasm in the colon and rectum. Tumor size and the non-lifting sign might be considerable factors for increased complication rate and procedural time of ESD.
