Li Ion Diffusivity and Rate Performance of the LiFePO4 Modified by Cr Doping
Park, Chang-Kyoo,Park, Sung-Bin,Shin, Ho-Chul,Cho, Won-Il,Jang, Ho Korean Chemical Society 2011 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.32 No.1
This study reports the root cause of the improved rate performance of $LiFePO_4$ after Cr doping. By measuring the chemical diffusion coefficient of lithium ($D_{Li}$) using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), the correlation between the electrochemical performance of $LiFePO_4$ and Li diffusion is acquired. The diffusion constants for $LiFePO_4$/C and $LiFe_{0.97}Cr_{0.03}PO_4$/C measured from CV are $2.48{\times}10^{-15}$ and $4.02{\times}10^{-15}cm^2s^{-1}$, respectively, indicating significant increases in diffusivity after the modification. The difference in diffusivity is also confirmed by EIS and the $D_{Li}$ values obtained as a function of the lithium content in the cathode. These results suggest that Cr doping facilitates Li ion diffusion during the charge-discharge cycles. The low diffusivity of the $LiFePO_4$/C leads to the considerable capacity decline at high discharge rates, while high diffusivity of the $LiFe_{0.97}Cr_{0.03}PO_4$/C maintains the initial capacity, even at high C-rates.
The Origin of the Residual Carbon in LiFePO4 Synthesized by Wet Milling
Park, Sung-Bin,Park, Chang-Kyoo,Hwang, Jin-Tae,Cho, Won-Il,Jang, Ho Korean Chemical Society 2011 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.32 No.2
This study reports the origin of the electrochemical improvement of $LiFePO_4$ when synthesized by wet milling using acetone without conventional carbon coating. The wet milled $LiFePO_4$ delivers 149 $mAhg^{-1}$ at 0.1 C, which is comparable to carbon coated $LiFePO_4$ and approximately 74% higher than that of dry milled $LiFePO_4$, suggesting that the wet milling process can increase the capacity in addition to conventional carbon coating methods. UV spectroscopy, elemental microanalysis, and evolved gas analysis are used to find the root cause of the capacity improvement during the mechanochemical reaction in acetone. The analytical results show that the improvement is attributed to the conductive residual carbon on the surface of the wet milled $LiFePO_4$ particles, which is produced by the reaction of $FeC_2O_4{\cdot}2H_2O$ with acetone during wet milling through oxygen deficiency in the precursor.

Objective : The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether $^{18}F$-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FOG-PET) can be used to assess the therapeutic response of brain abscess. Methods : A study was conducted on 10 consecutive patients with brain abscess, Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with diffuse-weighted imaging (DWI) was performed at 3 and 6 weeks after surgical treatment and intravenous antibiotics therapy and FOG-PET at 6 weeks after treatment. The extent of the abscess, signal changes on MRI, and FOG-PET standardized uptake values were analyzed and correlated with the response to therapy. Results : Aspiration or craniotomy with excision of the abscess followed by intravenous antibiotics for 6-8 weeks resulted in good recovery with no recurrence. In 10 patients, two had low signal intensity on the DWI; one had no uptake on FOG-PET imaging after 6 weeks antibiotics and discontinued intravenous treatment, but the other patient had diffuse, increased uptake on FOG-PET imaging after 6 weeks antibiotics and underwent an additional 2 weeks of intravenous antibiotics. The remaining eight patients had high signals on the DWI. Four had no uptake on FOG-PET imaging and the treatment period varied from 6 to 8 weeks (mean, 6.75 weeks). Among the other four patients, FOG was accumulated in a diffuse or local area corresponding to a high signal area within the DWI and 2 weeks of intravenous antibiotics was added. Conclusion : MRI plus FOG-PET improved the accuracy of assessing therapeutic responses to antibiotics treatment of brain abscess and aided in optimizing therapy.

Background: Fermented black ginseng (FBG) is produced through several cycles of steam treatment of raw ginseng, at which point its color turns black. During this process, the original ginsenoside components of raw ginseng (e.g., Re, Rg1, Rb1, Rc, and Rb2) are altered, and less-polar ginsenosides are generated (e.g., Rg3, Rg5, Rk1, and Rh4). The aim of this study was to determine the effect of FBG on wound healing. Methods: The effects of FBG on tube formation and on scratch wound healing were measured using human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and HaCaT cells, respectively. Protein phosphorylation of mitogen-activated protein kinase was evaluated via Western blotting. Finally, the wound-healing effects of FBG were assessed using an experimental cutaneous wounds model in mice. Results and Conclusion: The results showed that FBG enhanced the tube formation in HUVECs and migration in HaCaT cells. Western blot analysis revealed that FBG stimulated the phosphorylation of p38 and extracellular signal-regulated kinase in HaCaT cells. Moreover, mice treated with $25{\mu}g/mL$ of FBG exhibited faster wound closure than the control mice did in the experimental cutaneous wounds model in mice.
Generalized Precedence Test When the data are subject to random censorship
Park, Sang-Gue,Kim, Tai-Kyoo 중앙대학교 통계연구소 1994 統計論文集 Vol.- No.1
Nonparametric tests for censored data are discussed when one is interested in testing equality of two treatment effects. Recent literatures show that precedence test is a nice alternative testing procedure against weighted log-rank tests. This research generalizes the precedence testing procedure for the case of censored data and proposed best precedence test for the location models.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to assess the usefulness of three-dimensional computed tomography angiography [3D-CTA] as a postoperative follow-up examination after intracranial aneurysms have been clipped. Methods : Between January 2002 and June 2005, 522 consecutive patients received treatment for intracranial aneurysms. A retrospective analysis of 310 patients with postoperative 3D-CTAs was performed to evaluate aneurysmal remnants and de novo aneurysms. This study was conducted in 271 patients with at least immediate and 6-month routine 3D-CT As for postoperative clipped aneurysm and 39 patients with 3D-CTAs for clipped aneurysm before 2002 when there was no 3D-CTA in our hospital. Results : Eight patients had abnormal CT angiographic findings. Aneurysm remnants were revealed in 4 patients and de novo aneurysms were discovered in 5 patients. Two patients were found at the postoperative 6-month 3D-CTA performed routinely. In 1 patient, the aneurysm was demonstrated on the way to the examination of syncope. In 2 patients, the author recommended 3D-CTA although there was no symptom because the patients had visited our institute long time ago [5.1, 4.5 years]. Of the 8 patients, 2 remnants and 1 de novo aneurysm were treated by endovascular treatment. Three de novo aneurysms at the middle cerebral artery and 1 pericallosal artery aneurysm were treated by direct clipping because these aneurysms were not suitable for the endovascular treatment in point of anatomical configuration. One patient with both remnant and de novo aneurysm was treated conservatively. Conclusion : 3D-CTA is an available, non-invasive diagnostic tool for the postoperative follow-up examination of aneurysmal state in patients after clipping.
Nonlinear Rank Statistics for the Simple Tree Alternatives
Park, Sang-Gue,Kim, Tai-Kyoo The Korean Society for Quality Management 1989 품질경영학회지 Vol.17 No.2
Nonlinear rank statistics for the simple tree alternatives problem are considered. Pitman efficiencies between several procedures are studied. A new maximin procedure is suggested and shown to have good efficiency properties. Additionally, it is desirable to terminate the experiment early comparing well known rank statistics or multiple comparison test statistics.
PIV measurement of the flow field in rectangular tunnel
Park, Sang-Kyoo,Yang, Hei-Cheon,Lee, Yong-Ho,Chen, Gong The Korean Society of Marine Engineering 2008 한국마린엔지니어링학회지 Vol.32 No.6
The development of fluid mechanics is briefly reviewed and the importance of fluid flows to heat and mass transfer in nature as well as to science and engineering is outlined. This paper presents the experimental results of air flow in the rectangular tunnel which has four different exhaust outlets, each distance of which from the inlet is 0, 30, 60 and 90mm respectively. This experiment is conducted by using the olive oil as the tracer particles and the kinematic viscosity of the air flow is $1.51{\times}10^{-5}\;m^2$/s. The flow is tested at the flow rate of 1.3 $m^3$/h and the velocity of 0.3 m/s. PIV technology can be used to make a good description of the smoke flow characteristics in the tunnel.

This study investigates a root cause of the improved rate performance of $LiFePO_4$ after metal doping to Fesites. This is because the metal doped $LiFePO_4$/C maintains its initial capacity at higher C-rates than undoped one. Using $LiFePO_4$/C and doped $LiFe_{0.97}M_{0.03}PO_4$/C (M=$Al^{3+}$, $Cr^{3+}$, $Zr^{4+}$), which are synthesized by a mechanochemical process followed by one-step heat treatment, the Li content before and after chemical delithiation in the $LiFePO_4$/C and the binding energy are compared using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results from AAS and XPS indicate that the low Li content of the metal doped $LiFePO_4$/C after chemical delithiation is attributed to the low binding energy induced by weak Li-O interactions. The improved capacity retention of the doped $LiFePO_4$/C at high discharge rates is, therefore, achieved by relatively low binding energy between Li and O ions, which leads to fast Li diffusivity.
Li Ion Diffusivity and Improved Electrochemical Performances of the Carbon Coated LiFePO4
Park, Chang-Kyoo,Park, Sung-Bin,Oh, Si-Hyung,Jang, Ho,Cho, Won-Il Korean Chemical Society 2011 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.32 No.3
This study examines the effects of a carbon coating on the electrochemical performances of $LiFePO_4$. The results show that the capacity of bare $LiFePO_4$ decreased sharply, whereas the $LiFePO_4$/C shows a well maintained initial capacity. The Li ion diffusivity of the bare and carbon coated $LiFePO_4$ is calculated using cyclic voltammetry (CV) to determine the correlation between the electrochemical performance of $LiFePO_4$ and Li diffusion. The diffusion constants for $LiFePO_4$ and $LiFePO_4$/C measured from CV are $6.56{\times}10^{-16}$ and $2.48{\times}10^{-15}\;cm^2\;s^{-1}$, respectively, indicating considerable increases in diffusivity after modifications. The Li ion diffusivity (DLi) values as a function of the lithium content in the cathode are estimated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The effects of the carbon coating as well as the mechanisms for the improved electrochemical performances after modification are discussed based on the diffusivity data.
