The study was conducted to evaluate the effects of spray-dried plasma (SDP) supplementation during late gestation and lactation on productive performance and immune responses of sows and their litters. Twelve sows (227.78 ± 2.16 kg average body weight; 2.0 average parity) were randomly allotted to two dietary treatments: a basal diet (CON) and the basal diet supplemented with 1% SDP. Sows were fed experimental diets from d 30 before farrowing to weaning of their piglets. Blood samples were collected from sows on d 1, 3, and 7 of lactation and from two randomly selected nursing pigs per litter on d 3 and 7 after birth, and d 1, 3, and 7 after weaning. Productive performance and immune responses of sows and their piglets were measured. There was a trend of less body weight loss in sows supplemented with SDP (p < 0.10) during the lactation period and a trend of greater (p < 0.10) average daily gain in SDP piglets compared to those in the CON group. Sows in the SDP group tended to have lower (p < 0.10) serum concentrations of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), and cortisol on d 3 and lower serum concentration of TNF-α on d 7 compared with sows in CON group. In comparison with CON piglets, piglets from SDP sows tended to have lower (p < 0.10) serum concentrations of TNF-α, TGF-β1, and cortisol on d 7 after birth, lower (p < 0.10) serum TNF-α and C-reactive protein on d 3 and 7 after weaning, and greater (p < 0.10) average daily gain after weaning. Moreover, weaned pigs from sows fed SDP had significantly lower (p < 0.05) serum concentrations of cortisol and TGF-β1 on d 3 and 7 postweaning, respectively, than CON piglets. In conclusion, SDP supplementation in sow diets from late gestation to weaning improved the productive performance of sows and their offspring; the beneficial effects of SDP may be mediated in part through modulation of immune responses of both sows and piglets.
The Impact of Standardization Intensity on Sales Performance

표준화에 대한 투자와 연구개발에 대한 투자는 중소기업의 기업운영 방향성을 결정짓는 두 가지 주요한 전략이다. 동 연구는 중소기업의 표준화에 대한 투자가 기업의 매출 성과에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 한다. 특히, 단순히 표준화 집중도를 살펴보는 것이 아니라 표준화에 대한 집중도와 연구개발에 대한 집중도를 함께 고려한 기업의 매출 성과에 미치는 영향을 분석하고자 한다. 2013년 한국표준협회에서 수행한 한국표준조사를 바탕으로 정보통신산업과 전기전자산업에 속하는 821개 기업을 대상으로 회귀분석을 수행하였다. 그 결과 중소기업의 연구개발 집중도 대비 표준화에 대한 투자는 그 기업의 매출 성과에 비선형관계(U자형)가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구결과는 중소기업의 경우 표준화에 대한 집중도 혹은 연구개발에 대한 집중도가 균형을 갖춘 접근보다는 하나에 집중하는 것이 매출성과에 도움 된다는 것을 시사한다. The choice of SMEs between standardization and R&D is one of the strategies of building capabilities for achieving competitive advantages under the liabilities of newness and smallness. This paper provides empirical evidence of Korean SMEs choice between standardization and R&D. We hypothesize two possible impacts of standardization intensity on sales performance; a positive linear and a U-shaped relationship. The analysis of data on 821 Korean SMEs from information and technology, and electricity and electronics industries in 2013 shows an U-shaped relationship between relative standardization intensity over R&D and sales performance.

GaAs/GaInAs multiple-quantum-well (MQW) shells having different GaInAs shell width formed on the surface of self-catalyzed GaAs core nanowires (NWs) are grown on (100) Si substrate using molecular beam epitaxy. The photoluminescence emission from GaAs/GaInAs MQW shells and the carrier lifetime could be varied by changing the width of GaInAs shell. Time-resolved photoluminescence measurements showed that the carrier lifetime had a fast and slow decay owing to the mixing of wurtzite and zincblende structures of the NWs. Furthermore, strain relaxation caused the carrier lifetime to decrease beyond a certain thickness of GaInAs quantum well shells.

Purpose: Weight change during chemotherapy is reported to be associated with a worse prognosis in breast cancer. Our study was aimed to evaluate the relation of weight change during AC (anthracycline+cyclophosphamide) +taxanes chemotherapy and recurrence. Methods: Patients included 89 women diagnosed with breast cancer who have been treated by AC+taxenes chemotherapy regimen. The weight variation between prechemotherapy and postchemotherapy was calculated ([weight at postchemotherapy-weight at prechemotherapy]/weight at prechemotherapy×100) and categorized into either weight change (≥5%) or stable (<5%). And then, we evaluated the relation of weight change and recurrence through the radiologic image tests (positron emission tomography-computed tomography, breast sonography, mammography, bone scan, magnetic resonance imaging, abdomino-pelvic computed tomography) each group. Results: During chemotherapy, 37of total 89 patients (41.6%) presented notable weight change and 52 patients (58.4%) were not weight change. Median follow-up period was 45.1 months, 17 of total 89 patients (19.1%) presented recurrence on the radiologic image tests. Eight of 17 recurrence patients were presented notable weight change, 9 patients were not weight change. In univariate analyses, weight change was not associated with recurrence. Conclusion: In our study, weight change during AC+taxanes chemotherapy in breast cancer was not associated with recurrence. Many studies that relation of weight change and recurrence were presented various result. So, we need more clinical studies many patients included and well designed.
