Kimura`s disease is a rare inflammatory disorder of unknown etiology primarily seen in young Asian males. It is characterized by painless subcutaneous masses, blood and tissue eosinophilia, and markedly elevated serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels. Clinically, the subcutaneous nodules occur predominantly in the head and neck. However, we report the case of a five-year-old boy presenting with an asymptomatic solitary brown pigmented nodule on the left buttock diagnosed with Kimura`s disease. Here we describe the diagnosis and treatment of this unusual case. (Ann Dermatol 22(1) 57∼60, 2010)

Background: The Model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) has been widely used for predicting short term mortality in cirrhotic patients and employed for deceased donor liver allocation in the U.S. In year 2011, modification of MELD (Refit MELD) and MELDNa (Refit MELD-Na) was published (Gastroenterology 2011;140:1952-1960). We aimed to validate this for Korean patients with cirrhosis and ascites Methods: We retrospectively reviewed medical records of cirrhotic patients who admitted at konkuk university hospital from 2006 to 2010. Predictive value for 3 month mortality was compared between serum sodium (Na), Refit MELD, Refit MELD-Na, Child-Pugh score. Comparison was done by calculating area under receiver operating curve (AUROC). Results: Total 469 patients were enrolled and there were 60 deaths and 19 patients were performed liver transplantation (LT) within 3 month. Male patients were 358 patients (76.3%) and alcohol was the most common cause of cirrhosis (n=223, 47.5%). The most common cause of death was variceal bleeding (n=29, 48.3%) and hepatic failure was the next (n=27, 45.0%). After exclude patients who performed LT, 450 patients were analysed. AUROCs of Na, Refit MELD, Refit MELD-Na and Child-Pugh score were 0.636, 0.813, 0.776 and 0.771 respectively. There were significant differences between scores except between Refit MELD and Child-Pugh score (P=0.092), between Refit MELd-Na and Child-Pugh score (P=0.811). If analysis was performed in only patients with refractory ascites (n=109), AUROCs were 0.681, 0.801, 0.783 and 0.708 respectively. There were no significant differences between scores except between Refit MELD and Chld-Pugh score (P=0.032). Conclusions: Refit MELD and Refit MELD-Na showed good predictability for 3 month mortality in patients with cirrhosis and ascites. However, Refit MELD-Na is not a better predictor than Refit MELD although hyponatremia is related with mortality in cirrhotic patients with ascites.

Three novel potential metal ion chelating units have been synthesized and characterized: 5-hexylcarbamoyl-3,4-dihydroxythiophene-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (5), 3-benzyloxy-4-hydroxythiophene-2,5-dicarboxylic acid bis-hexylamide (6), and 3,4-dihydroxythiophene-2,5-dicarboxylic acid bis-hexylamide (7). The crystal structure of 6 was obtained and suggests the presence of three distinct intramolecular hydrogen bonds, namely $[N_{amide}-H{\cdot}{\cdot}{\cdot}O]$ $[O-H{\cdot}{\cdot}{\cdot}O_{amide}]$ and $[N_{amide}-H{\cdot}{\cdot}{\cdot}S]$. Boron chelation with 5, 6 and 7 through the use of $BF_3, \;B(OH)_3 \;or \;B(OMe)_3$ was probed by $^1H$, $^{11}B$, and $^{13}C$ NMR spectroscopy. Technetium (I) chelation with 5, 6 and 7 was also studied via HPLC elutions using $[^{99m}Tc(CO)_3(OH_2)_3]^+$.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A systematic review was conducted to provide an overview of the health effects of occupational radiation exposure from interventional fluoroscopy procedures on medical radiation workers. Among the 34 studies that met the inclusion criteria, most studies were cross-sectional (76%) and published after 2011 (65%) in a handful of countries. Although diverse outcomes were reported, most studies focused on cataracts. Radiation health effects were rarely assessed by risk per unit dose. Interventional radiation medical workers represent a small subset of the population studied worldwide. Further epidemiologic studies should be conducted to evaluate health outcomes among interventional radiation medical workers.</P>
The Effects of Growth Temperature and Substrate Tilt Angle on GalnP/GaAs Tandem Solar Cells

The performance of GaInP/GaAs tandem solar cells with AlInP growth temperatures of 680$^{\circ}C$ and 700 $^{\circ}C$ on n-type GaAs (100) substrate with 2$^{\circ}$ and 6$^{\circ}$ tilt angles has been investigated. The series resistance and open circuit voltage of the fabricated tandem solar cells are affected by the substrate tilt angles and the growth temperatures of the window layer when zinc is doped in the tunnel diode. With carbon doping as a p-type doping source in the tunnel diode and the effort of current matching between top and bottom cells, GaInP/GaAs tandem solar cell has been exhibited 25.58% efficiency.

The eects of substitution of Zr for Ti on the microwave dielectric properties of Ba3Ti4−xZrxNb4O21 (0 x 4) ceramics were studied. The dielectric constant and the quality factor of the Ba3Ti4−xZrxNb4O21 ceramics decreased slightly with increasing composition x, which could be attributed to a change in the ion polarization and the microstructure caused by the substitution of Zr for Ti. The temperature coecient of the resonant frequency of Ba3Ti4−xZrxNb4O21 ceramics changed from +50 to +100 ppm/C. Meanwhile, Ba3Ti4−xZrxNb4O21 (x = 1) with a 5 wt% glass frit was densified at a relatively low sintering temperature below 900 C. Ba3Ti4−xZrxNb4O21 (x = 1) ceramics with 7 wt% glass sintered at 875 C exhibited good microwave dielectric properties: k = 52, Q×f = 3000 GHz, and f = +5 ppm/C.

Carcinoma erysipelatoides, also known as inflammatory metastatic carcinoma, is a rare form of cutaneous metastasis. It is most commonly caused by breast carcinoma, but rarely associated with gastric adenocarcinoma. Herein, we report an unusual case of carcinoma erysipelatoides in a 55 year-old female who had been diagnosed with signet ring cell carcinoma of the stomach metastasizing to ovaries.

<P>This paper presents a micromachined air-gap structure microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) acoustic sensor, which is fabricated via assisted high-speed lateral etching and chemical mechanical polishing (CMP). A sandwich structure (LTO/P<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>5</SUB>/LTO) as a sacrificial layer for the releasing process is proposed to produce an air-gap structure MEMS acoustic sensor. This sandwich structure can be etched selectively in a specific patterned P<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>5</SUB> layer. In addition, the sandwich structure proved superior to using only low temperature oxide (LTO) layer for the releasing process. We confirmed that the proposed releasing method assisted by lateral etching and CMP is very effective for creating a clean air-gap cavity in MEMS devices. In this work, the air-gap structure MEMS acoustic sensor is based on the capacitance change of a movable thin poly-silicon membrane. A high-gain impedance converter was mounted on a printed circuit board (PCB) with a silicon MEMS acoustic sensor to transform the electrical signal for input acoustic pressure. The membrane size of the MEMS acoustic sensor was 1.5 × 1.5 mm<SUP>2</SUP>. The sensitivity achieved was about 0.018–5.17 mV Pa<SUP>−1</SUP>. The noise level of the fabricated device was 10 µV Pa<SUP>−1</SUP>.</P>
