In many cases, acute cerebrovascular disease is accompanied by abnormal electocardiograms. Also, though rather uncommon, acute myocardial infraction is also seen. The mechanism of its occurance is uncertain but it is thought to be related to coronary artery spasms, an abnormal autonomic nervous system, and a catecholamine increase. A female patient of 34 years of age came to the hospital because of sudden headache accompanied by substernal chest pain. A subarachnoid hemorrhage due to a cerebral aneurysm rupture had occured, and there was ST segment elevation in lead II, III, and aVF of the electrocardiogram. A cardiac enzyme test, an echocardiography, and a coronary angiography were performed, and she was diagnosed to have acute myocardial infarction due to coronary artery spasm. Clipping of the aneurysm was performed. With the use of nitrate and an angiotension converting enzyme inhibitor, the condition of the patient improved.

Eriocaulon sieboldianum (ES) is used in traditional oriental medicine for various medicinal purposes including headache, toothache, and inflammation. However, the anti-cancer effect of the ES is still not fully understood. In the present study, the human leukemia cell line HL-60 was used to characterize the apoptotic effects of ES. ES induced cytotoxicity of HL-60 cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner. ES induced the generation of reactive oxygen species, and the release of cytochrome c in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, we showed that ES-induced apoptosis was accompanied by activation of caspase-3. Taken together, our results demonstrate that ES possesses anti-cancer activity in HL-60 cells.

Deriving type of research methodology, in order to increase educational satisfaction of the student studying research methods the study wanted to develop a cosmetology research methodology textbook table of contents for cosmetology. For this, we investigated a research methodological syllabus that was adopted by beauty school curriculum at a domestic graduate school. We also derived a fixed type of syllabus from a research methodology in comparision with related reference books for cosmetology. Then we corrected and completed by refecting opinion of advisory importance that was derived about a textbook table. After we suggested a final textbook table of contents analysis result until chapter and section. As a result, a level of lecture of a cosmetology research methodology final textbook table of contents in this study is a understanding of a research methodology, what essay is, matters that require attention of essay system, research and ethic of researcher, searaching a material, a type of research, a research procedure, a topic of research, a research proposal, an introduction, a theoretical background, a research method and a result, a conclusion, a reference, a supplement and english abstract writing, evaluation about a research, publishing an essay, and a result. This research, on account of lack of the opportunity to obtain the materials related to cosmetic methodology, is not regarded as comprehensive research. However, as it is attempting to directly understand and explain realistic education circumstance, this research reflect educational reality, which has essential meaning. Henceforward, in order that efficient and future-oriented beauty science majors to entance, more and more dicerse and advanced methods should be performed with the active coorpeation of each professor's subjects

In the present investigation, we analyzed the data of 1,318 patients (2,636 images) who underwent mammographic examinations and obtained the distribution of the patient age and compressed breast thickness. We measured also average glandular doses (AGD) as function of compressed breast thickness. In order to obtain the values of AGD, we measured half value layer (HVL) and tube output (mR/㎃s) for each kVp and target/filter combination. Entrance surface air kerma (ESAK) was calculated from the tube output as measured for each voltage used under clinical conditions and from the tube loading (㎃s). AGD per exposure were calculated by multiplying the ESAK values by the conversion factors tabulated by Dance. We obtained in this study the following conclusions. The mean value of compressed breast thickness for cranio-caudal (CC) view was 35.8㎜ and that for medio-lateral oblique (MLO) view was 43.3㎜. The mean value of AGD for CC view was 1.55mGy and that for MLO view was 1.70mGy. The AGD for MLO view was 0.15mGy (10%) higher than that for CC view because the thickness for MLO view was on average 4.8mm higher than that for CC view. The values of AGD increased with increasing compressed brest thickness. The increased AGD value was on average 0.34mGy per 10㎜ in the thickness ranges 10~80㎜, therefore differences between the AGD values of each thickness were relative large. Thus, it is considered to need limited doses for mammography with the upper end of exposure range at several different compressed brest thickness. 본 연구에서는 유방촬영 환자수 1,318명(2,636영상)을 대상으로 수집된 자료를 분석하여 환자의 연령분포와 압박유방두께를 조사하였고, 또한 압박유방두께의 변화에 따른 평균유선선량(AGD)을 측정하여 비교 하였다. 다양한 관전압과 target/filter 조합에서 반가층과 출력(mR/㎃s)을 측정하여 임상에서 사용되는 관전압에서 측정된 출력에다 ㎃s를 곱해서 입사표면공기커마(ESAK)를 계산하였다. 평균유선선량은 입사표면공기커마에다 Dance가 구한 변환계수를 곱해서 구했다. 압박유방두께의 평균값은 상하방향(CC) 촬영 시에 35.8㎜, 내외사방향(MLO) 촬영 시에 43.3㎜로 나타났다. 평균유선선량은 CC 촬영에서 1.55mGy, MLO 촬영에서 1.70mGy로, 압박유방두께가 CC 촬영 시보다 MLO 촬영 시에 평균 4.8㎜ 두껍기 때문에 평균유선선량은 MLO 촬영 시에 0.15mGy(10%)가 증가되었다. 평균유선선량은 압박유방두께가 두꺼울수록 증가하며, 10~80㎜의 범위에서 압박유방두께가 10㎜ 두꺼울수록 평균적으로 0.34mGy 증가하였다. 따라서 압박유방두께에 따라 평균유선선량의 차이가 비교적 크기 때문에 한 가지 두께보다 몇 단계에서 규정된 최대한계선량으로 유방촬영 시의 환자 피폭선량의 기준으로 삼는 것이 바람직하다.

사료내 택사, 겨우살이 및 산수유 생균제 첨가가 비육돈의 생산성 및 면역성에 미치는 영향

An investigation was conducted to evaluate the effects of supplementing Alisma canaliculatum, Viscum album and Cornus officinalis probiotics on the growth performance and immune response in growing pigs. This experiment was conducted using 120 pigs (crossing of Landrace×Yorkshire and castrated) which were assigned to 5 treatments in 3 replications with 8 pigs per replications. The dietary treatments were NC group (without antibiotics), PC group (basal+Oxytetracycline 50ppm), AC group (basal+A. canaliculatum 0.5%), VA group (basal+V. album 0.5%) and COP group (basal+C. officinalis probiotics 0.5%). The initial body weights of pigs were 35kg on average and the experiment lasted for 9 weeks. The experimental animals were kept in the pens following a completely randomized design. They were provided the diets adequate for grower stage as recommended by NRC (ME:3,265 kcal/kg and CP: 16%). COP fed pigs showed lower weight gain up to 6 weeks of age compared to NC group and other groups without significant differences (P>0.05). The carcass weights of pigs fed VA and COP were significantly higher compared to NC group (P<0.05), Back fat thicknesses groups fed three different additives were higher than NC group and lower then PC group (P<0.05). Crude fat contents in loin meat were significantly lower in groups fed three different additives while moisture contents of those three groups were higher than other groups (P<0.05). The thiobarbituric acid reaction substance (TBARS) value measured at fresh and 2nd weeks was lower in additives fed groups but no statistical differences were observed among the treatments (P¤0.05). Significantly highest PUFA (16.42g/100g) and ω-3 fatty acids (ALA, EPA and DHA) content of meat were observed in COP fed pigs compared to NC group (P¤0.05), which might mean that three additives function to enhance serum IgG in pigs. In consequence, it can be suggested that AC, VA and COP may have a potential to replace antibiotics as growth promoter and immune enhancer in the diets for growing pigs.

Background: Clinical syndrome of leptospirosis in Korea which accompanied by hemoptysis, pulmonary hemorrhage, respiratory failure was quite different from that of typical Weil's disease. The death rate in the early stage of disease has relationship with chest X-ray findings and acid-base disturbances resulted from hypoxia and asphyxia. We've come to consider chest X-ray findings and arterial blood gas findings as factors influencing the prognosis of the disease. Methods: Forty one cases of leptospirosis diagnosed by acute febrille illness symptoms and serologic tests were graded for chest X-ray findings and grouped according to acid-base abnormalities. Retrospectively, we attempted to correlate the acid- base disturbances and chest X-ray findings with morbidity and mortality of the disease. Results: The result were as follows. 1) Abnormal chest X-ray findings were observed in 30 cases(73%). Mortalities according to the chest X-ray findings were 0(0%), 2(17%), 3(0%), 4(0%), 5(33%), 6(50%) and chest X-ray findings influenced the mortality with statistical significance(p<0.05). 2) Acid-base abnormalities were observed in 39 cases(95%) and the types were divided to six groups . Respiratory alkalosis was the most common acid-base disturbance(44%). Five cases were died. Two of five were respiratory alkalosis, two cases were mixed respiratory metabolic acidosis and another case was mixed respiratory-metabolic alkalosis. As shown, acid-base abnormality influenced the mortality and mixed acid-base disturbances were showed high mortality with statistical significance (p<0.05). 3) Total mortality was 12%(five of forty-one). The chest X-ray score, morbidity, pH, pCO2, pO2, and HCO3 were 5.0±0.8, 3.4±1,3, 7.16±0.17, 32.5±1.1, 43.3±13.4 and 17.6±3.1 in died group, 2.4±0.4, 12.7±1.0, 7.46±0.01, 48.8±13.4, 65.4±3.7 and 23.4±0.9 in recovery group, respectively. There was difference between two groups with statistical significance. Conclusion: In this study, we concluded that chest X-ray findings and acid-base abnormalities influenced the mortality of leptospirosis. The factors above mentioned make us consider chest X-ray and blood gas analysis are essential to the patient hospitalized for the suspicion of leptospirosis. Especially, these factors pointed out the patient having chest X-ray abnormalities and mixed acid-base disturbances needed intensive care in the early stage of leptospirosis.
Prevalence of serum allergen-specific immunoglobulin E for canine atopic dermatitis in Korea

Canine atopic dermatitis (CAD) is an allergic skin disease with characteristic clinical features associated with immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies. Identification of the causative allergens is the diagnostic goal, which is essential to treat and manage CAD patients. CAD is commonly associated with environmental allergens surrounding the patients. For this reason, it is important for diagnostic tests to select allergens that are related to the environment of each country and each province. There are two main allergen-specific tests, serological IgE test (SAT) and intradermal skin test (IDT). SAT did not show direct cutaneous reaction but did show serological reaction against allergens. However, SAT is simpler and more convenient than IDT in small animal practice. In this study, we selected domestically prevalent allergens for SAT, including 60 food allergens and 60 inhalant allergens, and tested eight dogs tentatively diagnosed with CAD based on Favrot’s criteria. Furthermore, IDT was performed on four dogs from the SAT group for comparison of SAT and IDT, and the results were very similar. In SAT, four types of mites (Bloomia tropicalis, Glycophagus domesticus, Euroglyphus maynei, and mite mixture 1 Korea; house dust mites), four types of molds (Botrytis cinerea, Alternaria alternata, mold fungi mixture 11, mold fungi mixture), and one type of pollen (tree pollen mix 3 Korea) induced a reaction in more than half of dogs tested. In IDT, all four dogs reacted positively to Dermatophagoides farinae, and three reacted positively to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and house dust. The mean agreement rate between SAT and IDT in this study was 76.3%. This is the first trial to apply local allergens for SAT in Korean veterinary medicine, and it might play an important role for diagnoses and management of animal allergic diseases.
