Some subordination results for certain analytic functions of complex order involving Carlson-Shaffer operator

Kilic 장전수학회 2009 Advanced Studies in Contemporary Mathematics Vol.19 No.2

The purpose of the present paper is to give some subordination results for a subclass of analytic functions of complex order involving Carlson-Shaffer operator in the open unit disk. We note that by giving special values, we obtain some previous results for spirallike functions.

      • Understanding the Enhancement of Ionic Transport in Heterogeneously Doped Zirconia by Heterointerface Engineering

Kilic, Mehmet Emin,Soon, Aloysius American Chemical Society 2018 The Journal of Physical Chemistry Part C Vol.122 No.39

<P>Zirconia-based ceramics have been the most promising oxide electrolyte material with high ionic conductivity for solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) applications. Even though yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) and scandia-stabilized zirconia (ScSZ) are typically used for the SOFC at high temperatures, their performance is not optimal at operating temperatures with respect to their ionic conductivity and stability. The literature has focused largely on ionic diffusion dynamics in bulk YSZ and ScSZ, whereas their heterogeneously doped alloy and heterolayered superlattices are less investigated. In this work, using molecular dynamics simulations and diffusion dynamics analysis, we examine and consider five main mechanisms that may contribute to the enhancement of the overall ionic conductivity of these doped zirconia, namely, the influence of cation size, concentration, distribution, the crystal orientation and direction, and lastly, the degree of atomic roughness at the interface in the heterolayered structures. Our results support that heterointerface engineering at the atomic scale greatly reduces local lattice distortions (commonly seen in the bulk phases) while inducing an in-plane strain and thus leading to an overall enhancement of the ionic conductivity and stability for SOFC applications.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

      • A study on investigating the properties of alkali-activated roller compacted concretes

        Kilic, Ismail,Gok, Saadet Gokce Techno-Press 2021 Advances in concrete construction Vol.12 No.2

In this study, it was aimed to contribute to a more environmentally friendly concrete production by using alternative binders, which are waste or by-products that can be used instead of cement. For this purpose, alkali-activated materials were used, a cleaner production process was supported by reducing the amount of activator, a different production method was preferred to prevent the workability problem caused by dry consistency, and roller compacted concrete was produced. Ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) and fly ash were used as precursors, and an activator solution prepared by mixing 10 M sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and sodium silicate (Na2SiO3), which has a Na2SiO3/NaOH ratio of 2.5, was used in production of alkali-activated roller compacted concretes. Also, Portland cement roller compacted concrete was produced with the same dosage for comparison purposes. Unit weight, total water absorption, ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV), modulus of elasticity, abrasion resistance, 7 and 28-d compressive strength values of the alkali-activated RCCs were determined. While the roller compacted concretes produced with fly ash were weaker than Portland cement RCCs in terms of compressive strength, the specimens produced using blast furnace slag have been found to be superior.

      • Acceptance of Human Papillomavirus Vaccine by Adolescent Girls and Their Parents in Turkey

Kilic, Ayse,Seven, Memnun,Guvenc, Gulten,Akyuz, Aygul,Ciftci, Seval Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.9

Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the opinions of Turkish adolesecent girls and their parents about HPV vaccination and the consistency. Methods: This descriptive study covered 301 girls and their parents. Questionnares were developed by the researchers based on findings within the literature and applied for data collection. Results: The mean age was 19.4 for girls, 44.2 for mothers and 47.9 for fathers. It was found that 43.5 percent of girls and 31.9 percent of mothers wish to be vaccinated against HPV. Also, 45.5 percent of mothers and 44.9 percent of fathers wish for their daughters to be vaccinated against HPV. A moderate consistency was found between mothers and fathers; a low consistency was found between fathers and girls, and between mothers and girls. Conclusions: The study indicates that an appropriate background has been partially provided about the acceptability of the vaccine between parents and their daughters in Turkey. However, the vast majority of adolescent girls and parents are indecisive or reluctant about HPV vaccination. This study also showed that the decisions of adolescents about vaccination may be affected by the opinions of the parents.

The Relationship between Farmers' Perceptions and Animal Welfare Standards in Sheep Farms

Kilic, I.,Bozkurt, Z. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2013 Animal Bioscience Vol.26 No.9

In this study, we investigated the relationship between welfare standards in sheep farms and farmers' perceptions of factors affecting animal welfare. We developed a scale of 34 items to measure farmers' perceptions of animal welfare. We examined the relationships among variables in farmers' characteristics, our observations, and farmers' expressed perceptions through a t test, variance analysis and correlation analysis. Results of the research suggested that higher welfare standards for sheep exist on farms run by farmers who have a higher perception level of animal welfare. These farmers believed that personnel and shelter conditions were more effective than veterinary inspection, feeding and other factors in terms of animal welfare. In addition, we detected a significant relationship between the farmers' perceptions and their gender, educational level, whether they enjoyed their work, or whether they applied the custom of religious sacrifice. Our results showed that emotional and cognitive factors related to farmers' perceptions may offer opportunities for progress in the domain of animal welfare.

      • Impact of Adjuvant Chemoradiotherapy for Rectal Cancer on the Long-Term Quality of Life and Late Side Effects: A Multicentric Clinical Evaluation by the Turkish Oncology Group

Kilic, Diclehan,Yalman, Deniz,Aksu, Gorkem,Atasoy, Beste M.,Igdem, Sefik,Dincbas, Fazilet O.,Yalcin, Suayib Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.11

Aim: Although preoperative chemoradiatherapy (CRT) has proven its benefits in terms of decreased toxicity, there is still a considerable amount of cases that do not receive postoperative CRT. Oncologists at different geographic locations still need to know the long-term effects of this treatment in order to manage patients successfully. The current paper reports on long-term quality of life (QOL) and late side effects after adjuvant CRT in rectal cancer patients from 5 centers in Anatolia. Methods: Rectal cancer patients treated with postoperative CRT with minimum 1-year follow-up and were in complete remission, were evaluated according to RTOG and LENT-SOMA scales. They were also asked to complete Turkish version of EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire and the CR-38 module. Each center participated with the required clinical data. Results: Two hundred and thirty patients with median age of 55 years participated and completed the study. Median follow-up time was 5 years. All patients received RT concomitant with chemotherapy. Common parameters that both increased functional health scales and yielded better symptom scores were long term interval after treatment and sphincter-saving surgery. In addition, surgery type and follow-up time were determined to be predictors of QOL scores and late toxicity grade. Conclusion: Postoperative CRT was found to have a great impact on the long term QOL and side effects in rectal cancer survivors. The factors that adversely affect these are abdominoperineal resection and shorter interval. The findings may encourage life-long follow-up and cooperation with patients, which should be mentioned during the initial counseling.

Wireless sensor network protocol comparison for bridge health assessment

Kilic, Gokhan Techno-Press 2014 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.49 No.4

In this paper two protocols of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) are examined through both a simulation and a case study. The simulation was performed with the optimized network (OPNET) simulator while comparing the performance of the Ad-Hoc on demand Distance Vector (AODV) and the Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) protocols. This is compared and shown with real-world measurement of deflection from eight wireless sensor nodes. The wireless sensor response results were compared with accelerometer sensors for validation purposes. It was found that although the computer simulation suggests the AODV protocol is more accurate, in the case study no distinct difference was found. However, it was shown that AODV is still more beneficial in the field as it has a longer battery life enabling longer surveying times. This is a significant finding as a large factor in determining the use of wireless network sensors as a method of assessing structural response has been their short battery life. Thus if protocols which enhance battery life, such as the AODV protocol, are employed it may be possible in the future to couple wireless networks with solar power extending their monitoring periods.

Ammonia and Carbon Dioxide Concentrations in a Layer House

Kilic, Ilker,Yaslioglu, Erkan Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2014 Animal Bioscience Vol.27 No.8

Higher concentrations of ammonia ($NH_3$) and carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) in animal barns can negatively affect production and health of animals and workers. This paper focuses on measurements of summer concentrations of ammonia ($NH_3$) and carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) in a naturally ventilated laying henhouse located at an egg production facility in Bursa region, western Turkey. Also, indoor and ambient environmental conditions such as temperature and relative humidity were measured simultaneously with pollutant gas concentrations. The average $NH_3$ concentrations during summer of 2013 was 8.05 ppm for exhaust and 5.42 ppm for inlet while average $CO_2$ concentration was 732 ppm for exhaust and 625 ppm for inlet throughout summer. The overall minimum, average and maximum values and humidity were obtained as $16.8^{\circ}C$, $24.72^{\circ}C$, and $34.71^{\circ}C$ for indoor temperature and 33.64%, 63.71%, and 86.18% for relative humidity. The lowest exhaust concentrations for $NH_3$ and $CO_2$ were 6.98 ppm and 609 ppm, respectively. They were measured in early morning at the maximum diurnal ventilation rate in July 2013 and August 2013. The highest concentrations were 10.58 ppm for $NH_3$ and 904 ppm for $CO_2$ recorded in the afternoon when the ventilation rate was the lowest in June 2013.
