The First Probable Case of Hereditary Angioedema in Vietnam

Khanh Bui Van,Doan Nguyen Van 대한천식알레르기학회 2012 Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research Vol.4 No.3

Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is rare disorder due to C1-inhibitor deficiency (C1-INH) that are debilitating and may be life-threatening. HAE is a lack of consensus concerning diagnosis, therapy, and management, particularly in Vietnam. In this case report, we report a 40-year-old male patient with typical clinical symptoms and family history but he showed normal C4 level, and we could not measure C1q and C1-INH level. However, the diagnosis of HAE can be made based on typical clinical symptoms and the favorable prophylactic response to danazol treatment. Based on these findings,we suggest that he has type I HAE, although he showed normal C4 level.

Erbium-Doped Silicon-Rich Oxide Waveguides Fabricated by Using an Electro-Chemical Method

Pham Van Hoi,Bui Huy,Tran Thi Cham,Ha Xuan Vinh,Do Khanh Van 한국물리학회 2008 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.53 No.3

In this article, we describe and electro-chemical method for fabricating erbium-doped silicon-rich oxide (SRO) waveguides. The porosity, the Er-ion concentration and the refractive index can be controlled by varying the current density (continuous or pulsed currents) during the production process. The refractive index difference between the core and the cladding layers and the profile of the SRO waveguides were tested by using an m-line spectrometer and Field-emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). The photo-luminescent (PL) emission of Er-ions at 1550 nm in the SRO waveguides could be obtained even when the excitation wavelength was away from the resonance absorption band of the Er-ions. This result revealed that Er-ions are possibly excited from the ground state 4I15/2 to the first excited state 4I13/2 by energy transfer from excited Si nanocrystallites. The Er-doped SRO waveguides can be applied to optoelectronic devices compatible with Si-based integrated circuit technology.

Advanced Magnetic Materials Produced by Using Rapid Quenching Technology

Nguyen Hoang Nghi,Nguyen Van Dung,Trinh Thi Thanh Nga,Bui Thi Khanh Nhung,Mai Thanh Tung,Nguyen Huu Tinh,Hoang Nhat Hieu,Bui Xuan Chien,Nguyen Thi Hong Tam 한국물리학회 2008 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.52 No.6

Amorphous alloys produced by using a rapid quenching technique are considered to be a precursor for producing nanosized and multiphase structures by precipitation (the top-down method). By using this technique, several new magnetic materials with different magnetic properties based on different physical mechanisms have been manufactured and investigated. Three new magnetic materials, a nanocrystalline soft magnetic material, a soft-hard permanent magnet and a Me-3d granular alloy with a GMR effect, what were prepared under local conditions, are presented and discussed in the experimental point of view. Outpatient Satisfaction at Private General Hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

GIAO, Ha Nam Khanh,THY, Nguyen Thi Anh,VUONG, Bui Nhat,KIET, Truong Van,LIEN, Le Thi Phuong Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.7

The quality of hospital services remains a concern of both the manager and the patient. The study aims to identify factors affecting outpatient satisfaction at private general hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City, establishing a scale for measuring them. Some 450 outpatients who were treated in five top private hospitals in Ho Chi Minh city (HCMC) in 2019 - An Sinh General Hospital, Hoan My General Hospital, Columbia Asia International Hospital, FV Hospital, and Vu Anh International General Hospital - were interviewed directly in the last quarter of 2019 to obtain the information. The SERVPERF model, plus the cost, together with the SPSS software, have been used to process information by Cronbach's alpha analysis, Exploratory Factor analysis, and linear regression analysis. The results show that there are five factors influencing outpatient satisfaction at private general hospitals in HCMC, in which four factors affects positively in the order of decreasing importance: treatment outcome, doctors and nurses' professional capacity, facilities and environment of the hospital, hospital care, and the treatment time factor affects negatively. The results of the study provide private hospital in HCMC managers with a number of suggestions to increase the level of hospital service quality, so that increase outpatients satisfaction.

Efficacy of electrochemically activated water solution in gingivitis treatment

        Dinh‑Toi Chu,Van‑Huy Pham,Thien Chu‑Dinh,Truong Nhu Ngoc Vo,Duc Long Duong,Van Nhon Bui,Minh Son Tong,Thi Thu Phuong Nguyen,Quynh Anh Le,Khanh‑Hoang Nguyen 한국약제학회 2019 Journal of Pharmaceutical Investigation Vol.49 No.3

Mouthwash is one of the most commonly oral healthcare products for prevention and treatment of gum diseases. Dr. ECA is a disinfectant solution manufactured by a Vietnamese company and has been licensed for oral healthcare, but its effect on gingivitis is still unclear. To evaluate the effectiveness of this product in the treatment of gingivitis, we conducted a clinical study in 60 students diagnosed with gingivitis to compare the results of gingivitis treatment using Dr. ECA and a control mouthwash (a demonstrated anti-gingivitis product). The data showed that in the treated group, the rate of good Gingivitis Index (GI) before treatment was 46.67%, but after 2 and 4 weeks of using Dr. ECA that rate was increased to 96.67% and 100%, respectively. The percentage of patients with bleeding on probing was 63.33% but declined sharply after 2 weeks of treatment to 6.67%, and further reduced to 3.33% after 4 weeks of treatment. The treatment outcomes in were similar in the Dr. ECA treated group and control one with no statistically significant difference. Our results suggest that the electrolyte saline solution Dr. ECA is effective in treating gingivitis. Its effects are similar to other mouthwash products that had been approved and marketed.

Anaplasma marginale and A. platys Characterized from Dairy and Indigenous Cattle and Dogs in Northern Vietnam

Nguyen Thi Hong Chien,Thi Lan Nguyen,Khanh Linh Bui,Tho Van Nguyen,Thanh Hoa Le 대한기생충학ㆍ열대의학회 2019 The Korean Journal of Parasitology Vol.57 No.1

Anaplasma marginale and A. platys were detected and characterized (16S rDNA sequence analysis) from dairy and indigenous cattle, and the latter in domestic dogs in Vietnam. A phylogenetic tree was inferred from 26 representative strains/species of Anaplasma spp. including 10 new sequences from Vietnam. Seven of our Vietnamese sequences fell into the clade of A. marginale and 3 into A. platys, with strong nodal support of 99 and 90%, respectively. Low genetic distances (0.2-0.4%) within each species supported the identification. Anaplasma platys is able to infect humans. Our discovery of this species in cattle and domestic dogs raises considerable concern about zoonotic transmission in Viet- nam. Further systematic investigations are needed to gain data for Anaplasma spp. and members of Anaplasmataceae in animal hosts, vectors and humans across Vietnam.

SCN1A Gene Mutation and Adaptive Functioning in 18 Vietnamese Children with Dravet Syndrome

Thi Thu Hang Do,Diem My Vu,Thi Thuy Kieu Huynh,Thi Khanh Van Le,손은화,Thieu Mai Thao Le,Huu Hao Ha,Chi Bao Bui 대한신경과학회 2017 Journal of Clinical Neurology Vol.13 No.1

Background and Purpose Dravet syndrome is a rare and severe type of epilepsy in infants. The heterogeneity in the overall intellectual disability that these patients suffer from has been attributed to differences in genetic background and epilepsy severity. Methods Eighteen Vietnamese children diagnosed with Dravet syndrome were included in this study. SCN1A variants were screened by direct sequencing and multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification. Adaptive functioning was assessed in all patients using the Vietnamese version of the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales, and the results were analyzed relative to the SCN1A variants and epilepsy severity. Results We identified 13 pathogenic or likely pathogenic variants, including 6 that have not been reported previously. We found no correlations between the presence or type of SCN1A variants and the level of adaptive functioning impairment or severity of epilepsy. Only two of nine patients aged at least 5 years had an adaptive functioning score higher than 50. Both of these patients had a low frequency of convulsive seizures and no history of status epilepticus or prolonged seizures. The remaining seven had very low adaptive functioning scores (39 or less) despite the variability in the severity of their epilepsy confirming the involvement of factors other than the severity of epilepsy in determining the developmental outcome. Conclusions Our study expands the spectrum of known SCN1A variants and confirms the current understanding of the role of the genetic background and epilepsy severity in determining the developmental outcome of Dravet syndrome patients.
