Effects of Sucrose and Trehalose on the Freezability of Markhoz Goat Spermatozoa

        Khalili, B.,Farshad, Abbas,Zamiri, M.J.,Rashidi, A.,Fazeli, P. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2009 Animal Bioscience Vol.22 No.12

The present study was conducted to observe the effect of increased osmolality of basic tris extender supplemented with trehalose and sucrose on post-thawing quality (motility, progressive motility, viability, the rate of acrosome abnormality, total abnormality and membrane integrity) of Markhoz goat spermatozoa. Fresh semen samples were evaluated for motility and sperm concentration. Only semen samples with motility more than 70% and sperm concentration higher than $3{\times}10^{9}$ sperm/ml were used for cryopreservation. In Exp. 1, trehalose (50, 75 or 100 mM) and sucrose (40, 60 or 80 mM) were added to a basic tris diluent. Based on the results of experiment 1, the goal of Exp. 2 was to investigate the combinational effects of the highest and lowest concentrations ($T_{100}+S_{80}$ or $T_{50}+S_{40}$) of trehalose and sucrose. As the control, semen was diluted and frozen in the tris diluent without trehalose or sucrose. The results in Exp. 1 showed that all evaluated spermatozoa characteristics improved significantly after freezing and thawing (p<0.05) and at the same time the increase of trehalose and sucrose concentrations in basic extenders was seen, with the best results obtained for extenders containing 70 and 100 mM trehalose and 80 mM sucrose. Comparing these results with those of control diluents, the effects of supplementation were significantly (p<0.05) better. In Exp. 2, the results showed no significant differences (p>0.05) between $T_{100}+S_{80}$ and $T_{50}+S_{40}$ extenders, but the results of $T_{50}+S_{40}$were slightly better than obtained with $T_{100}+S_{80}$ diluents. Furthermore, the results of this experiment indicated that the sperm characteristics in the isotonic control extender were significantly (p<0.05) lower than examined extenders. In conclusion, the results of this study indicated that goat sperm can tolerate hypertonic trehalose and sucrose solutions better than isotonic control diluents in the freezing period. In particular, these positive effects have been shown for acrosome integrity, which is very important for the fertilization capacity of sperm. The data indicated that addition of trehalose plus sucrose to the freezing extender can be recommended for cryopreservation of goat spermatozoa, but more data is needed on pregnancy rate, acrosome reaction and IVF to ascertain the real effect.

The Effects of Different Concentrations of Glycine and Cysteine on the Freezability of Moghani Ram Spermatozoa

        Khalili, B.,Jafaroghli, M.,Farshad, Abbas,Paresh-Khiavi, M. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2010 Animal Bioscience Vol.23 No.3

Two experiments were designed to evaluate the effects of the amino acids glycine and cysteine on cryopreservation of ram spermatozoa. After primary evaluation of collected ejaculates, the semen samples were pooled and diluted 1:4 before cooling (experiment 1) and freezing (experiment 2) with Tris-Citrate-Fructose-Yolk (TCFY) extender supplemented with different concentrations of glycine and cysteine (5, 10, 15 and 20 mM). As the control, semen was diluted and frozen in the extender without amino acids. Motility, viability and membrane integrity were assessed as the parameters for semen quality in the first experiment. In the second experiment, motility, progressive motility, viability, membranes and acrosome integrity were evaluated after the freezing-thawing process. The results of the first experiment indicated that the addition of 10 and 15 mM cysteine compared to the control (basic) extender significantly increased (p<0.01) the motility, viability and membrane integrity of spermatozoa after cooling. However, further increasing these amino acids up to 20 mM had a significant negative effect (p<0.05). Our results showed no significant differences (p>0.05) between 5 mM glycine compared to 5 mM cysteine and between 20 mM glycine and 20 mM cysteine. The results of experiment 2 showed that the amino acids significantly improved post-thaw motility, progressive motility, viability, membranes and acrosome integrity of ram spermatozoa. These positive effects were observed at concentrations between 5 to 15 mM of glycine and cysteine, with the best results at 15 mM. Further increasing of amino acid concentrations significantly decreased the post-thaw characteristics of spermatozoa, but the results showed that cysteine was better than glycine and control extenders. The data indicated that addition of glycine or cysteine to the freezing extender can be recommended for cryopreservation of ram spermatozoa. However, further studies are still needed to determine the effect of such addition on fertility in farm animals.

ON UNIVERSAL COVERINGS OF LIE TORI

Khalili, Valiollah Korean Mathematical Society 2012 대한수학회보 Vol.49 No.6

In this paper we give an introduction to the theory of universal central extensions of perfect Lie algebras. In particular, we will provide a model for the universal coverings of Lie tori and we show that automorphisms and derivations lift to the universal coverings. We also prove that the universal covering of a Lie ${\Lambda}$-torus of type ${\Delta}$ is again a Lie ${\Lambda}$-torus of type ${\Delta}$.

A Hybrid Approach Based on Multi-Criteria Satisfaction Analysis (MUSA) and a Network Data Envelopment Analysis (NDEA) to Evaluate Efficiency of Customer Services in Bank Branches

        Khalili-Damghani, Kaveh,Taghavi-Fard, Mohammad,Karbaschi, Kiaras Korean Institute of Industrial Engineers 2015 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.14 No.4

A hybrid procedure based on multi-Criteria Satisfaction Analysis (MUSA) and a Network Data Envelopment Analysis (NDEA) is proposed to evaluate the relative efficiency of customer services in bank branches. First, a three-stage process including sub-processes such as customer expectations, customer satisfaction, and customer loyalty, is defined to model the banking customer services. Then, fulfillment of customer expectations, customer loyalty level, and the customer satisfaction degree are measured and quantified through a multi-dimensional questionnaire based on customers' perceptions analysis and MUSA method, respectively. The customer services scores and the other criteria such as mean of employee evaluation score, operation costs, assets, deposits, loans, number of accounts are considered in network three-stage DEA model. The proposed NDEA model is formed based on multipliers perspective, output-oriented, and constant return to scale assumptions. The proposed NDEA model quantifies and assesses the total efficiency of main process and assigns the efficiency to customer expectations, customer satisfactions, and customer loyalties sub-processes in bank branches. The whole procedure is applied on 30 bank branches in IRAN. The proposed approach can be used in other organizations such as airports, airline agencies, urban transportation systems, railway organizations, chain stores, chain restaurants, public libraries, and entertainment centers.

Uncertain Centralized/Decentralized Production-Distribution Planning Problem in Multi-Product Supply Chains: Fuzzy Mathematical Optimization Approaches

Khalili-Damghani, Kaveh,Ghasemi, Peiman Korean Institute of Industrial Engineers 2016 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.15 No.2

Complex and uncertain issues in supply chain result in integrated decision making processes in supply chains. So decentralized (distributed) decision making (DDM) approach is considered as a crucial stage in supply chain planning. In this paper, an uncertain DDM through coordination mechanism is addressed for a multi-product supply chain planning problem. The main concern of this study is comparison of DDM approach with centralized decision making (CDM) approach while some parameters of decision making are assumed to be uncertain. The uncertain DDM problem is modeled through fuzzy mathematical programming in which products' demands are assumed to be uncertain and modeled using fuzzy sets. Moreover, a CDM approach is customized and developed in presence of fuzzy parameters. Both approaches are solved using three fuzzy mathematical optimization methods. Hence, the contribution of this paper can be summarized as follows: 1) proposing a DDM approach for a multi-product supply chain planning problem; 2) Introducing a coordination mechanism in the proposed DDM approach in order to utilize the benefits of a CDM approach while using DDM approach; 3) Modeling the aforementioned problem through fuzzy mathematical programming; 4) Comparing the performance of proposed DDM and a customized uncertain CDM approach on multi-product supply chain planning; 5) Applying three fuzzy mathematical optimization methods in order to address and compare the performance of both DDM and CDM approaches. The results of these fuzzy optimization methods are compared. Computational results illustrate that the proposed DDM approach closely approximates the optimal solutions generated by the CDM approach while the manufacturer's and retailers' decisions are optimized through a coordination mechanism making lasting relationship.

Solving a New Multi-Period Multi-Objective Multi-Product Aggregate Production Planning Problem Using Fuzzy Goal Programming

Khalili-Damghani, Kaveh,Shahrokh, Ayda Korean Institute of Industrial Engineers 2014 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.13 No.4

This paper introduces a new multi-product multi-period multi-objective aggregate production planning problem. The proposed problem is modeled using multi-objective mixed-integer mathematical programming. Three objective functions, including minimizing total cost, maximizing customer services level, and maximizing the quality of end-product, are considered, simultaneously. Several constraints such as quantity of production, available time, work force levels, inventory levels, backordering levels, machine capacity, warehouse space and available budget are also considered. Some parameters of the proposed model are assumed to be qualitative and modeled using fuzzy sets. Then, a fuzzy goal programming approach is proposed to solve the model. The proposed approach is applied on a real-world industrial case study of a color and resin production company called Teiph-Saipa. The approach is coded using LINGO software. The efficacy and applicability of the proposed approach are illustrated in the case study. The results of proposed approach are compared with those of the existing experimental methods used in the company. The relative dominance of the proposed approach is revealed in comparison with the experimental method. Finally, a data dictionary, including the way of gathering data for running the model, is proposed in order to facilitate the re-implementation of the model for future development and case studies.

      • Designing of a Static Frequency Observer for GMAW Process in the Globular Transfer Mode

Mohsen Khalili,Mohammad Haeri,Ali Reza Doodman Tipi 제어로봇시스템학회 2010 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2010 No.10

In the welding process, droplet detachment regularity is important for a good welding quality. The frequency of detachment is one of influential indices for assessing the quality of GMAW in the globular transfer mode. In this paper, a relationship is estimated for measuring droplet detachment frequency in the globular GMAW. The droplet detachment frequency is estimated with a curve fitting by the least squares error (LSE) method. By using short time frequency transform (STFT) we can extract the frequency contents from the mass of drop that is one of the states in the welding model.
