Structural, Electronic and Optical Characteristics of HgSiX2 (X=P, As) Chalcopyrite Materials: A DFT-Based Computer Simulation

        Khalid Shah,Khenata Rabah,Ma Yue,Sun Xiaoliang,Gao Meng,Wu Haicheng,Lu Guiwu,Yang Zhenqing 한국물리학회 2020 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.77 No.1

In the present work, we determined the structural, electronic and optical properties of HgSiX2 (X = P, As) chalcopyrite materials by using the density functional theory (DFT). Our calculated results showed alignment with the data drawn from other experimental and theoretical studies. Therefore including the lattice parameters, bulk moduli, band gaps, the total and partial densities of states and the optical properties. The computed band structures and density of states (DOS) disclosed that HgSiP2 and HgSiAs2 are semiconductors materials with energy gaps equal to 0.931 eV and 0.425 eV, respectively. Our findings displace that the Si-3p, P-3p and As-4p atomic orbitals contribute to the density of states. Moreover, a comprehensive analysis of the electronic and the optical properties such as the reflectivity, absorption spectra, and dielectric functions revealed that the HgSiP2 and the HgSiAs2 materials may be beneficial in optoelectronic applications. We hope that the designs and preparations of the HgSiP2 and the HgSiAs2 materials will lead to give new advance strategies and gateways for the explorations of highly efficient optoelectronic devices.

Treatment of adult Burkitt lymphoma with the CALGB 1002 protocol: a single center experience in Jordan

        Mohammad Ma’koseh,Rula Amarin,Faris Tamimi,Baha’ Sharaf,Alaa Abufara,Omar Shahin,Mohammed K. M. Manassra,Khalid Halahleh 대한혈액학회 2021 Blood Research Vol.56 No.4

Background The treatment of adult Burkitt lymphoma with pediatric-based chemotherapy protocols usually results in high cure rates, although with significant toxicity. We report our experience with the Cancer and Leukemia Group B1002 (CALGB 1002) protocol. Methods The files of adult patients diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma and treated with the CALGB 1002 protocol at King Hussein Cancer Center between 2008 and 2017 were reviewed. Baseline demographics, clinical laboratory features, treatment details, and responses were collected. The correlations between clinical and laboratory variables with event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS) were determined by univariate and multivariate analyses using backward stepwise Cox regression models. EFS and OS were plotted using Kaplan‒Meier curves. Results This study included 19 patients with a median age of 33 years (range, 19‒65). Eleven (58%) and two (10.5%) patients had advanced-stage and central nervous system disease, respectively. Among 106 administered cycles, the median interval between cycles was 23 days (range, 19‒84 days). Sixteen patients (84%) achieved a complete response. After a median follow-up of 40.8 months, the 3-year EFS and OS rates were 78.95%. Patients with a low-risk International Prognostic Index (IPI) had better survival than those with intermediate-or high-risk IPI. Grade III‒IV hematological toxicities occurred in 88% of patients, while 73% had grade III‒IV mucositis. Conclusion In adult Burkitt lymphoma, the CALGB 1002 protocol provides high cure rates and can be administered promptly, but is associated with significant toxicity. Risk-adapted approaches and other, less toxic, chemotherapeutic regimens should be considered.

Implications of Impacts of Climate Change on Forest Product Flows and Forest Dependent Communities in the Western Ghats, India

        Indu K Murthy,Savithri Bhat,Vani Sathyanarayan,Sridhar Patgar,Beerappa M,PR Bhat,DM Bhat,Ranjith Gopalakrishnan,Mathangi Jayaraman,Madhushree Munsi,Ravindranath NH,Khalid MA,Prashant M,Sudha Iyer,Ragh 강원대학교 산림과학연구소 2014 Journal of Forest Science Vol.30 No.2

The tropical wet evergreen, tropical semi evergreen and moist deciduous forest types are projected to be impacted by climate change. In the Western Ghats region, a biodiversity hotspot, evergreen forests including semi evergreen account for 30% of the forest area and according to climate change impact model projections, nearly a third of these forest types are likely to undergo vegetation type change. Similarly, tropical moist deciduous forests which account for about 28% of the forest area are likely to experience change in about 20% of the area. Thus climate change could adversely impact forest biodiversity and product flow to the forest dependent households and communities in Uttara Kannada district of the Western Ghats. This study analyses the distribution of non- timber forest product yielding tree species through a network of twelve 1-ha permanent plots established in the district. Further, the extent of dependence of communities on forests is ascertained through questionnaire surveys. On an average 21% and 28% of the tree species in evergreen and deciduous forest types, respectively are, non-timber forest product yielding tree species, indicating potential high levels of supply of products to communities. Community dependence on non-timber forest products is significant, and it contributes to Rs. 1199 and Rs. 3561/household in the evergreen and deciduous zones, respectively. Given that the bulk of the forest grids in Uttara Kannada district are projected to undergo change, bulk of the species which provide multiple forest products are projected to experience die back and even mortality. Incorporation of climate change projections and impacts in forest planning and management is necessary to enable forest ecosystems to enhance resilience.
