Purpose : The aim of this study was to identify the relation of cognition and visuospatial perception in stoke patients. Methods : A total of 16 stroke patients recruited from two hospital located in Donghae, Kang-won participated in this study(Right hemiplegia : twelve, Left hemiplegia : four). All participants scored higher than 20 point on the MMSE-K. To assess the cognitive function, we performed the Korean version of Mini Mental State Examination(MMSE-K), spatial perception domain of Lowenstein Occupational Therapy Cognition Assessment(LOTCA), Figure Color Copy(FCC), Linebisection Test(LBT) and Albert's test in stoke patients. Results: The Korean version of Mini Mental State Examination and spatial perception domain of Lowenstein Occupational Therapy Cognition Assessment were the highest points in sixty ages, Figure Color Copy is difference between Right hemiplegia and Left hemiplegia. Linebisection Test(LBT) and Albert's test had much relation, visuospatial perception had not relationship. Conclusion: Aging was cognition function and visuospatial perception had an interrelationship. visuospatial perception according to affected side in brain had an interrelationship but cognition function and visuospatial perception had not any interrelationship.

<P>Embryonic stem cell testing is an alternative model system to assess drug and chemical toxicities because of its similar developmental characteristics with in vivo embryogenesis and organogenesis. This study evaluated the toxicity of chemicals at specific developmental stages of mouse embryonic stem cell (ESC)-derived hepatic differentiation; hepatic progenitor cells (HPCs), and hepatocyte-like cells (HCs). The toxic effects of carbon tetrachloride (CCl(4)), 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), and arsanilic acid (Ars) were evaluated by measuring the expressions of Cytokeratin (CK18) and GATA binding protein 4 (GATA-4) and the activities of aspartate transaminase (AST), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) during the hepatic differentiation process. Non-toxic doses of three chemicals at a range of 25 to 500?μM for CCl(4), 12.5 to 800?nM for 5-FU and 6.25 to 400?mM for Ars were treated. In the CCl(4)-treated group, significant decreases (P?<?0.05) of the marker expression were observed by more than 300?μM from day 10 in CK18 and by more than 400?μM of CCl(4) from day 22 in GATA-4, respectively. However, both markers were decreased (P?<?0.01) by treatments of all doses at day 40. In the 5-FU-treated group, the expressions of two proteins were not affected by any of the doses at day 10 and 22, whereas the GATA-4 expression was decreased (P?<?0.05) by more than 400?nM of 5-FU at days 28 and 40. In the Ars-treated group, the CK18 expression was inhibited (P?<?0.05) by more than 100?mM of Ars at day 22 but showed a tendency to recover. Although the GATA-4 was inhibited by all doses at day 22, the inhibition of GATA-4 recovered at days 28 and 40. ALP activities of three chemicals were significantly increased (P?<?0.05) by a dose-dependent manner. The activities of AST and LDH were prone to be increased by more than 300?μM of CCl(4,) but not affected by all doses of 5-FU except for 800?nM of 5-FU in AST activities. In the Ars, the enzyme activities were significantly increased (P?<?0.05) by more than 50?μM of Ars in AST and more than 6.25?μM of Ars in LDH. The present results indicate that CCl(4) has a more toxic effect on HCs, whereas Ars is more toxic to HPCs. Additionally, in vitro alternative testing using ESC-derived HPCs and HCs could provide useful information on chemical toxicity during the hepatic differentiation process and could be a useful model system for assessing chemical hepatotoxicity.</P>

In the correction of dental Class III molar relationship in skeletal Class II patients, uprighting of the mandibular posterior segments without opening the mandible is an important treatment objective. In the case reported herein, a C-tube miniplate fixed to the lower labial symphysis and connected with a nickel-titanium reversecurved archwire provided effective uprighting of the lower molars, without the need of orthodontic appliances on the mandibular anteriors. Using this approach, an appropriate magnitude of force is exerted on the molars while avoiding any negative effect on the mandibular anteriors.
Optical properties of TiO2 thin films with crystal structure

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The optical properties of TiO2 thin films with polymorphs were investigated by spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE) and transmittance measurements. Films were prepared by RF sputtering and e-beam evaporation and post-annealing, and their microstructures were examined by SEM and XRD. The results reveal that the crystal structure of the TiO2 film is strongly affected by the post-annealing temperature. The optical constant spectra of the films showed a gradual change above 3.5 eV. As the crystal structure of the film changes from amorphous phase to rutile phase, the extinction coefficient spectra are enhanced and shift toward lower energy. The direct band gap energies obtained by SE measurements were well matched with those obtained by transmittance measurements. The SE analysis was supported by comparison of the measured and calculated transmittances of the films, and both spectra showed good agreement over the entire spectral range.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> TiO2 films were prepared by using an rf sputtering method and post-annealing. </LI> <LI> The crystal structure of TiO2 film is strongly affected by post-annealed temperature. </LI> <LI> The optical constants of TiO2 polymorph films showed a gradual change above 3.5 eV. </LI> <LI> The direct band-gap energies obtained by SE had higher values compared with those gained by transmittance. </LI> </UL> </P>
Cationic Cyclization to Tricyclene Structures$^\dag$
Kang, Ja-Hyo,Lee, Won-Koo,Shin, Hyun-Tai Korean Chemical Society 1987 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.8 No.4
Various carbocation-mediated cyclizations to tricyclene structure (basically, tricyclo $[2,2,1,0^{2,6}]$ heptane skeleton) were carried out, starting from protonated species of either 3-methyl-2,5-norbornadiene-2-carboxylic acid (10) or 3-methylene-5-norbornene-2-carboxylic acids (18 and 19). The resulting products were individually converted to ${\pi}$-iodotricyclene (35), a pivotal intermediate in almost all syntheses of tricyclene terpenes.

The 1% TF extract with or without 0.1% HC was applied to the back skin daily for 24 days.</P><P><B> Results</B></P><P> 1% TF extract with 0.1% HC improved AD symptoms and reduced TEWL and symptom scores in AD mice. 1% TF extract with 0.1% HC inhibited skin inflammation through decrease in inflammatory cells infiltration as well as inhibition of Orai-1 expression in skin tissues. TF extract inhibited Orai-1 activity in Orai-1-STIM1 cooverexpressing HEK293T cells but increased TRPV3 activity in TRPV3-overexpressing HEK293T cells. TF extract decreased <I>β</I>-hexosaminidase release in RBL-2H3 cells.</P><P><B> Conclusions</B></P><P> The present study demonstrates that the topical application of TF extract improves skin inflammation in AD mice, and the mechanism for this effect appears to be related to the modulation of calcium channels and mast cell activation. This outcome suggests that the combination of TF and steroids could be a more effective and safe approach for AD treatment.</P>
