<P>The first total synthesis of (+)-intricenyne consisting of an oxocane skeleton was achieved via an extremely selective endocyclization strategy. Background and Objectives: Non-linear frequency compression (NLFC) technology compresses and shifts higher frequencies into a lower frequency area that has better residual hearing. Because consonants are uttered in the high-frequency area, NLFC could provide better speech understanding. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical effectiveness of NLFC technology on the perception of speech and music in patients with high-frequency hearing loss.Subjects and Methods: Twelve participants with high-frequency hearing loss were tested in a counter-balanced order, and had two weeks of daily experience with NLFC set on/off prior to testing. Performance was repeatedly evaluated with consonant tests in quiet and noise environments, speech perception in noise, music perception and acceptableness of sound quality rating tasks. Additionally, two questionnaires (the Abbreviated Profile of Hearing Aid Benefit and the Korean version of the International Outcome Inventory-Hearing Aids) were administered.Results: Consonant and speech perception improved with hearing aids (NLFC on/off conditions), but there was no significant difference between NLFC on and off states. Music perception performances revealed no notable difference among unaided and NLFC on and off states. The benefits and satisfaction ratings between NLFC on and off conditions were also not significantly different, based on questionnaires, however great individual variability preferences were noted.Conclusions: Speech perception as well as music perception both in quiet and noise environments was similar between NLFC on and off states, indicating that real world benefits from NLFC technology may be limited in Korean adult hearing aid users.
GSTARS모형을 이용한 형산강의 최적 유사량공식 결정

본 연구에서는 준 2차원 수치모형인 GSTARS를 이용하여 형산강의 하상변동모의에 적합한 최적 유사량공식을 산정하고자 하였다. 모형의 검보정을 위한 유사량, 하상재료 및 하천지형자료를 현장조사를 통해 취득하였다. 현재까지 널리 적용되는 유사량 공식들에 대하여 장기하상변동 모의결과의 실측치에 대한 평균오차, 상대오차, 평균제곱오차, 상대제곱근오차, 불일치율, 그리고 Nash-Sutcliffe 효율계수를 비교한 결과, Laursen(1968)공식이 형산강의 장기하상 변동을 모의하기 위한 가장 적합한 유사량공식으로 판단되었다. Quasi-two dimensional numerical model (GSTARS) was applied to determine the optimal sediment discharge formula for simulating the sedimentologic characteristics of Hyeongsan river. The field measurements have been conducted to obtain the data, such as sediment discharge, bed material, and channel geometry, for model calibration and verification. The sediment discharge formulas, which have been generally used, have been assessed according to the average error, relative error, RMSE, RRMSE, discrepancy ratio and Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient for bed changes along the thalweg. From the results, Laursen formula(1968) shows the best performance to simulate the long-term bed change of Hyeongsan river.
양측 급성 음향외상의 임상양상 및 치료결과의 개인별 이질성

Objective: To analyze individual heterogeneity in susceptibility to noise using within-subject comparison of hearing outcomes following medical therapy for bilateral acute acoustic trauma (AAT). Method: Twelve patients with bilateral hearing loss after gunshot noise exposure during military training were enrolled. Pure tone audiometry, to measure pure-tone averages (PTA) at 2000, 4.000, and 8000 Hz, was performed in all patients at their initial visit and one month after treatment with oral corticosteroids. Results: The initial mean hearing level was 46.67 ± 12.0 dB for the right ear, 52.92 ± 11.15 dB for the left, and 49.79 ± 11.77 dB for both ears. In the 1-month follow-up, the mean PTA was 35.42 ± 15.19 dB for the right ear, 43.06 ± 15.92 dB for the left, and 39.24 ± 15.71 dB for both ears. The difference in PTA between the right and left ears during the initial visit was markedly correlated with the difference in PTA between both ears during the 1-month follow-up (rho = 0.814, р = 0.001). In addition, the average hearing gain on the right side showed a strong correlation with that on the left side (rho = 0.736, p = 0.006). However, there was no relationship between the initial hearing threshold and the degree of hearing gain when both ears were considered together. Conclusion: We detected the positive effects of steroid treatment for AAT and demonstrated clinical evidence of individual susceptibility to acoustic trauma.

Baekcheon watershed, which is mostly consists of rice paddies and fields, is expected to be higher non-point source pollution impacts. The effect of the non-point source pollution appears fairly large in the tributaries because tributaries are within close proximity to pollution sources unlike the mainstream and the flow rate of tributaries is insufficient. The developed model based on Fortran was applied using input data derived by ARC-GIS in order to analysis quantitatively for the direct runoff and the non-point source pollution load. As a result of the application, we found the contribution rate and the reduction rate for non-point source loading according to change of landuse.

<P>We report a technique for separate extraction of extrinsic source/drain (S/D) resistances (R<SUB>Se</SUB>/R<SUB>De</SUB>) and gate bias (V<SUB>GS</SUB>)-dependent but channel length (L)-independent intrinsic source/drain (R<SUB>Si</SUB>/R<SUB>Di</SUB>) resistances for the overlap region in MOSFETs. For extraction of the overlap length (L<SUB>ov</SUB>) in the heavily doped S/D regions, an analytical capacitance model for the depletion region is employed with the gate-to-source and gate-to-drain capacitance-voltage (C<SUB>G-S</SUB>, C<SUB>G-D</SUB>) characteristics. After verifying the extracted overlap length through a 2-D technology computer-aided design simulation, we successfully extract V<SUB>GS</SUB>-dependent R<SUB>Si</SUB> = 0.9~3.7 Ω and R<SUB>Di</SUB> = 1.0~3.9 Ω in an n-channel MOSFET with W = 140 μm and L = 0.35 μm. In addition, V<SUB>GS</SUB>- and L-independent extrinsic S/D resistances are separately extracted to be R<SUB>Se</SUB> = 5.1 Ω and R<SUB>De</SUB> = 5.0 Ω, respectively.</P>
Formation of Low-Resistivity Nickel Germanide Using Atomic Layer Deposited Nickel Thin Film

<P>Nickel germanide (NiGe) was formed from atomic layer deposition (ALD) Ni on Ge and a subequent annealing process; the Ni film with low resistivity (34 mu Omega.cm) at 15 nm was obtained by N-2 + H-2 plasma treatment after Ni precursor injection. The formed NiGe film showed low specific contact resistivity (rho(c)) values of 9.01 mu Omega.cm(2) for an NiGe/n(+)Ge contact and 3.61 mu Omega.cm(2) for an NiGe/p(+) Ge contact. These values were comparable to those obtained using sputteredNi. In addition, the ALD process-based NiGe showed excellent thermal/electrical stability up to 600 degrees C.</P>
