      • Proteomic Profiling of Serum from Stage I Lung Squamous Cell Carcinoma Patients

        Objectives: This study employed proteomic profiling to identify specific tumor markers that might improve early diagnosis of lung squamous cell carcinoma. Methods: Serum samples were isolated from 30 patients with stage I lung squamous cell carcinoma and 30 age-and gender-matched healthy controls, and proteomic profiles were obtained by matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time of flight mass spectrometry. Results: Three highly expressed potential tumor markers were identified in the sera of stage I lung squamous cell carcinoma patients, with molecular weights of 3261.69, 3192.07, and 2556.92 Da. One protein peak with molecular weight 3261.69 Da was chosen as the candidate biomarker and identified as a fibrinogen alpha chain through a search of the IPI, NCBI or SWISS-PROT protein databases. Conclusion: As a potential tumor biomarker, fibrinogen alpha chain may be applicable for the early diagnosis and prognosis of lung squamous cell carcinoma patients.

        The causes of pyogenic liver abscess has been known as biliary tract disease or intrabadominal infection but the large proportions of the patients has no apparent underlying disorders. Recently colonic mucosal lesions were reported in patients with cryptogenic liver abscess and it has been suggested that colonic mucosal break may play a role in developing liver abscess in otherwise healthy patients. We experienced a patient of severe recurrent liver abscess complicated with endophthalmitis only 3 months after successful treatment of initial cryptogenic liver abscess and a polypoid colon cancer was discovered by chance. It seems prudent to proceed colonoscopic examination in patients with cryptogenic liver abscess especially when it is recurrent.

        Most concrete is recently made of an aggregate which is properly absorbed, and carried in it in order to do capability at every fields. We have been close to demand new capability of high flowing and enduring for specific concretes. That is difficult to cope with claiming the efficiency on deterioration from lack of a high quality aggregate. Therefore, For solving the problems we apply to a packing method for using dried materials. That is to say it is a kind of making into an instant. In this study, There is a purpose to present fundamental data, comparing and analyzing a phenomenon about aggregate's absorption following the rate of adding water, for using existing materials.

      • Coagulant와 Hydro-cyclone을 결합한 상향류식 여과시스템

        Coagulation Hydro-cyclone can be added to the upward flow filtration system utilizing Fiber-Ball filter media to analyze and evaluate the treatment characteristics in order to Non-point pollution, which is a pollution problem, more efficiently. Hydro-cyclone was added to the existing Filter column to create an Up-Flow Filtration system. The treatment efficiency according to the operating conditions such as turbidity, suspended solids, pH, inflow flow rate, and head loss was analyzed. Comparison of inflow water and runoff water suspended solids and turbidity analysis results showed a minimum treatment efficiency of 93.21% and a maximum treatment efficiency of 99% or more. It was analyzed that the SS and turbidity analysis results showed a treatment efficiency of 80% or more before and after backwashing twice. When Coagulation Hydro-cyclone was added compared to the existing filtration system, it was analyzed that particles that had not been treated as an adsorption fiber company filter medium between particles could be treated.

      • Exploring the Roles of Lighting in Human-Product Interaction

        Lighting enables humankind to visually perceive everything in the dark since they invented artificial lighting sources such as candle and light bulb. Nowadays lighting is used not only to brighten the space but also to play a more diverse roles in humanproduct interaction. For instance, the LED indicator on a battery charger lets the user recognize whether the batteries are fully charged or not. Although lighting is getting deeply pervasive to our daily lives, few studies on the interaction between human and lighting have been done. Therefore, this study aims to identify the role of lighting in human-product interaction. To figure out what kinds of role lighting plays in human-product interaction, literature study was conducted. Four roles of lighting were identified: Visibility, Information Transfer, Visual Aesthetic Enhancement and Emotion Induction. Based on the four roles, a conceptual framework was made in order to provide a better understanding of the relationship between human and lighting. Further implications to the design practice are discussed as well.

      • Effect of Design Instruction on Creativity

        Objective: The objective of this study is to find out the effect of design instruction on creative idea generation. Background: Creativity has been generally considered as an inherent cognitive ability. Some studies, however, demonstrated that creativity is not a special gift only for a few persons, but also potentially a learned skill. Therefore, the study of importance is the availability and application of methodological processes based on which people develop their creativity. Method: Four groups of students are provided different instructions to generate creative ideas for a new camera function. Group 1 was provided a problem scenario without any other special instruction. Group 2 and 4 were instructed to conduct a problem analysis before solving the problem scenario. Group 3 and 4 saw the ideas of groups 1&2 before generating their own idea. Overall creativity level of each idea generated was evaluated by six professors of School of Design and Human Engineering at UNIST. Results: Group 3 and 4 showed higher creativity scores than group 1 or 2. Participants with higher interest in camera and design showed higher scores. Conclusion: These results suggest that creativity is a quality of cognition which can be developed. Upcoming studies are expected to find out various methods to increase practical creativity. Application: This research can propose a methodological direction to developing creativity.

      • The Application of Lighting Factors in Information Transfer

        Objective: The aim of this study is to explore the interaction between human visual perception and lighting factors in information transfer. Background: Visualization through lighting helps effectively deliver information to people. Although lighting can be controlled with various factors, only a few factors have been used to transfer information. Therefore, we wondered how various factors of lighting are related to the visual perception of information. Six factors of lighting were identified based on the literature study: Intensity, Color, Area, Movement, Texture and Distribution. Method: In order to reveal the interaction between the lighting factors and the perception of information, an experiment was designed and 10 participants were recruited. Based on representative three scenarios of an external hard disk storage space usage (in case of being full, half full and empty), the participants were asked to set the most appropriate lighting of each scenario by controlling each factor of lighting according to given scenarios. Results: The results indicated that there was no significant difference in the pattern of setting lighting factors between the participants for each scenario. However, the pattern of setting lighting factors was distinct among scenarios. Conclusion: The conclusion was drawn that lighting factors influence the human perception in information transfer depending on use cases. Application: In information transfer, lighting can be more effectively utilized by understanding the interaction between lighting factors and the visual perception of human.

        What Are the Clinical Features and Etiology of Eosinophilic Liver Infiltration?

        Background/Aims: Although eosinophilic liver infiltration (ELI) is not rare, few data exist regarding its clinical characteristics and etiology. Therefore, we evaluated these aspects to better understand the clinical implications of this lesion type, which is reasonably common in Korea. Methods: Patients suspected of having ELI, based on abdominal computed tomography results obtained between January 2010 and September 2017, were enrolled in this retrospective study. The presumptive etiologies of ELI were categorized as parasite infections, hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES), eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA), malignancies, and unidentified. Clinical courses and treatment responses were also evaluated. Results: The mean age of the enrolled patients (male, 237/328) was 62 years. Most patients (63%) were diagnosed incidentally and had peripheral eosinophilia (90%). Only 38% of the enrolled patients (n=126) underwent further evaluations to elucidate the etiology of the suspected ELI; 82 (25%) had parasite infections, 31 (9%) had HES, five (2%) had EGPA, and five (2%) had drug reactions in conjunction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms. Almost half of the other enrolled patients had cancer. Radiologic resolution was achieved in 191 patients (61%; median time to radiologic resolution, 185 days). Resolution of peripheral eosinophilia was achieved in 220 patients (79%). In most cases, the course of ELI was benign. Conclusions: This large ELI study is unique in that the incidence rate, underlying diseases, and clinical courses were comprehensively evaluated. Clinicians should investigate the etiology of ELI, as several of the underlying diseases require intervention rather than observation.
