        The reserve substances of Pelvetia silipuosa, which were collected at Sunyoo island, western coast of Korea, in May 4, 1998, were investigated by using the vegetative and reproductive organs. The differences between receptacles and growing branches constituents were observed. Receptacles had a higher content of water, but they had two times lower content of ash than growing branches. The protein content of growing branches and receptacles were 6.87±0.69g and 6.56±0.41g, and the glucose 319.3±15.8㎎/100 g and 377.7㎎/100g. The laminarin of receptacle were 22.86±0.81g/100g and growing branches were 22.41±0.69g, which contained the highest of all constituents. The mannitol were 7.67±0.12g and 6.63±0.32g in receptacle and growing branches.

      • 쇄골 중간부 골절후 불유합 및 지연 유합의 원인

        쇄골 중간 1/3 부위의 골절은 치료 결과가 양호하여 보존적 치료가 원칙적으로 받아 들어지고 잇으며 불유합에 대한 빈도도 낮은 것으로 되어 있다. 그러나 최근 전위 및 단축의 정도가 심할 경우 높은 불유합의 결과와 불량한 임상 결과를 보고하고 있어 이런 예에 대해선 수술적 치료를 권장하고 있다. 저자들은 단축 및 전위의 정도와 불유합의 연관성을 알아보고자 하였다. 연구 대상 및 방법 : 1993년 2월부터 2002년 1월까지 본원에 내원 했던 성인 중간부 쇄골 골절 환자 194명 중 완전 전위를 보인 78례를 조사하여 이중 63례를 대상으로 분석하여 후 향적 연구를 시행하였다. 4개월 추시 후에도 방사성 사진상 유합 소견이 관찰되지 않으면 불유합의 유의성을 알아보고자 하였다. 결 과 : 63례 중 불유합 및 지연 유합을 소견을 보인 환자는 15(23%)례였다. 골유합을 보인 48례의 단축은 평균 8.6㎜(2㎜-17㎜)였고, 전위는 평균 9.7㎜(2-22㎜)였다 .불유합 및 지연 유합을 보였던 15례에서 단축은 평균 14.5㎜(3㎜-37㎜), 전위는 평균 17.3㎜(4-25㎜)였다. 18㎜이상 단축이 있었던 경우 불유합의 발생과는 통계학적으로 유의성을 나타내었고(Fisher's exact test, p<0.01), Chi-square test상 16㎜ 이상의 전위를 보였던 경우 불유합 발생과 통계학적으로 의미가 있었다(p<0.01). 결 론 : 쇄골 골절 특히 중간 1/3의 골절은 비교적 보존적 치료에 결과가 좋은 것으로 되어 있으나, 전위 및 단축이 심한 경우 불유합에 대한 가능성이 높이 때문에 보다 경과 관찰시 유합의 진행이 없으면 적극적인 치료를 고려해야한다. Purpose : Because the prognosis of the mid 1.3 clavicle fracture is good, the conservative treatment with a figure of 8 bandage is the gold standard and the nonunions are rare. However, recently surgical treatment is recommended when the shortening and displacement is severe because of the high nonunion rate and the poor clinical result. This study was undertaken to evaluate that the shortening and displacement at fracture site are associated with the development of nonunion. Materials and Methods : We analysed the 194 fractures of mid 1/3 clavicle in adults which had been treated conservatively from February 1993 to January 2002 and did the retrospective study. Of these, 78 cases were originally in the middle third of the clavicle and had been completely displaced. We reviewed 63 of these cases. The shortening and displacement at the fracture site was measured on the initial roentgenogram. And the analysis of the patients' chart was done for another predisposing nonunion factors. Nonunion and delayed union are considered to be present when there has been little or no progression of clinical or radiographic healing at a minimum of 4 months after injury. Results : 15 of the 63 cases had developed nonunion.. The average 8.6㎜(2㎜-17㎜) shortening and average 9.7㎜(2-22㎜) in the union patients. The average 14.5㎜(3㎜-37㎜) shortening and average 17.3㎜(4-25㎜) in the nonunion patients. We found that initial shortening ≥18㎜(Fisher's exact test, p<0.01) and initial displacement ≥ 16㎜(Chi-square test. p<0.01)at the fracture site were significantly associated with the development of nonunion. Conclusion : The conservative treatment with figure-80-bandage is the gold standard in the clavicle middle one third fracture. However, the nonunion is commonly occurs in the cases of more of severely shortened and displaced fractures. If there are no signs of callus formation and the patient complains of pain after several week, osteosynthesis should be considered.

        Organ transplantation is still very rarely performed. Transplantation is clearly established as the treatment of choice for many patients suffering from end-stage organ failure, as major advances in techniques and the development of new immunosupressive therapics have significantly improved the outcome of clinical transplantation during the past two decades. Attention has been focused on the potential use of animal organs as an alternative and promising solution to this serious problem. Recently, the modification of pigs, which are the only animals now being considered as a source of source organs for human transplantation, have been pursued by means of genetic engineering techniques.

      • 血淸 및 호르몬 添加가 소 卵胞卵의 體外成熟에 미치는 影響

        These studies were carried out to investigate the effects of sera and hormones added to maturation medium on the in vitro maturation(IVM) in bovine follicular oocytes. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The IVM rate of oocytes was increased by addition of 10 to 15% FCS to m-KRB and DM and 20% FCS to Ham's F10, respectively. The addition of ECS to TCM199 was superior to that of FCS, but no difference in the IVM rate between ECS and FCS added to m-KRB. 2. The IVM rate in the media added with hormones was increased and the rate in m-KRB was higher when FSH was added to medium instead of HCG. The highest IVM rate was obtained in the TCM199 added with 10% ECS and LH. 3. The IVM rate of oocytes in the media added with sera was higher than that of hormones. 4. In conclusion, the present studies indicate that the addition of sera and hormones can improved the in vitro maturation of bovine follicular oocytes.

        The immunohistochemical (ABC method) studies on the ontogeny and localization of the catecholamine-synthesizing enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) were examined in rat brain from the 12th fetal day until the 9th postnatal day. The results obtained were as follows : 1. Tyrosine hydroxylase was first detected immunohistochemically at embryonic day 13(E13). At this stage, the TH-containing neurons were still migrating and cytologically immature. 2. The changes occuring from the early to the late prenatal stages of development appeared to be the result of an increase in the number and size of the TH-containing cells and in the length of nerve fibers. 3. The distribution of the TH-containing neurons at embryonic day 19(E19) more closely resembled catecholaminergic neurons in the adult rat brain : 1) a rhombencephalic group became the A1-7 ; 2) a ventral mesencephalic group became A8-10 ; 3) a ventral prosencephalic group and a few neurons ventral to the striatum became A11-14 ; and 4) the cells of the olfactory bulb corresponded to the A15. 4. The cytodifferentiation of the TH-immunoreactive neurons was accompanied by continued migration to form the collective catecholaminergic groups during ontogenesis. In addition, the morphology of the TH-immunoreactive neurons in the late prenatal stage resembled in the adult rat brain.

        Cells immnunoreactive for somatostatin(SOM) and glucagon(GLU) were investigated in postnatal day 0, 7, 14, 28, 90, 180 and adult canine pancreas using light microscopic immunohistochemistry. Pancreatic SOM-immunoreactive cells were found in pancreatic acini, pancreatic duct, and pancreatic islet gradually. Pancreatic SOM-immunoreactive cells were more located in pancreatic parenchyme than pancreatic islet throughout pancreas by postnatal day 28. But there was change by the postnatal 3 months : pancreatic SOM-immunoreactive cells were more located in pancreatic islet than acini and duct. It is suggested that the number of the SOM-immunoreactive cells may not increase with age apparently. A small number of SOM-immunoreactive cells that showed GLU-immunoreactivity were also observed in canine pancreatic islet. The physiologic consequences of these changes remain to be determined. These results sugegest that SOM in the developing pancreas may relate to the secretion of pancreatic hormones.

      • 방사무늬김 색소변이형 사상체의 생체 가시부 흡수스펙트럼

        Comparative study was made on absorption spectra of the sporothallus of the wild-type (U-511) plant, and the red-type (H-25), the green-type (C-O giant), the yellow-type (ZY-1), the violet-type (ZV-1), the gray-type (ZGr-1), the light red-type (ZLR-1), the light green-type (C-31) and the light yellow-type (ZLY-1) mutants in P. yezoensis. The absorption was recorded with a double monochrometer recording spectrophotometer (Hitachi U-3210) not equipped with an integrating sphere attachment or a head-on photomultiplier. The red-, the green-, the yellow-, the gray- and the light yellow-type mutants showed the spectra having two absorption maxima in 530-583 nm region. The red- and the green-type mutants had the spectra with markedly low absorption in a 380-750 nm region. The violet- and the gray-type mutants were characterized by higher PE/Chl. α and PC/Chl. αratios. The light yellow-type mutant was marked by lower PE/Chl. α and PE/PC ratios, while the gray- and the violet-type by higher PE/Chl. α and the gray-type by PE/PC ratios. It is inferred : that the light yellow-type mutants might result from qualitative and quantitative variations of phycoerythrin : that the light yellow-type mutants might originate from qualitative variation of phycoerythrin and quantitative variation of chlorophyll α: that the violet-, the light green- and light yellow-type mutant might arise from quantitative variation of chlorophyll α.
