Objective: The purpose of this study was to confirm that the cross-country ski sprint course in PyeongChang, where the 2018 Winter Olympics course was to utilize wearable devices equipped with inertial measurement unit (IMU), global positioning system (GPS) and heart rates sensor. Method: For the data collection, two national level cross-country (XC) skiers performed classic technique on the entire sprint course. We analyzed cycle characteristics, range of motion on double poling (DP) technique, average velocity, and displacement of 3 points according to the terrain. Results: The absolute cycle time gradually decreased during starting, middle and finish sections. While the length of the DP increased and the heart rates tended to increase for men skier. In addition, the results indicated that range of motion of knee joint during starting and finish section decreased more than middle section. The errors of latitude and longitude data collected through GPS were within 3 m from 3 points. Conclusion: Through the first case study in Korea, which analyzed the location and condition of XC skiers in the entire sprint course in real time, confirmed that feedback was available in the field using various wearable sensors.
Diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease utilizing amyloid and tau as fluid biomarkers
Jinny Claire Lee,김수정,홍승표,김영수 생화학분자생물학회 2019 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.51 No.-
Current technological advancements in clinical and research settings have permitted a more intensive and comprehensive understanding of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). This development in knowledge regarding AD pathogenesis has been implemented to produce disease-modifying drugs. The potential for accessible and effective therapeutic methods has generated a need for detecting this neurodegenerative disorder during early stages of progression because such remedial effects are more profound when implemented during the initial, prolonged prodromal stages of pathogenesis. The aggregation of amyloid-β (Aβ) and tau isoforms are characteristic of AD; thus, they are considered core candidate biomarkers. However, research attempting to establish the reliability of Aβ and tau as biomarkers has culminated in an amalgamation of contradictory results and theories regarding the biomarker concentrations necessary for an accurate diagnosis. In this review, we consider the capabilities and limitations of fluid biomarkers collected from cerebrospinal fluid, blood, and oral, ocular, and olfactory secretions as diagnostic tools for AD, along with the impact of the integration of these biomarkers in clinical settings. Furthermore, the evolution of diagnostic criteria and novel research findings are discussed. This review is a summary and reflection of the ongoing concerted efforts to establish fluid biomarkers as a diagnostic tool and implement them in diagnostic procedures.
Addressing Vaccine Hesitancy Among Immigrant Communities in Canada
Jinny Choi,Sangwook Michael Woo 한국공공가치학회 2022 공공가치연구 Vol.3 No.1
The digital communication era has given rise to quick and convenient access to information. With vaccine disinformation and anti-vaccine rhetoric becoming increasingly prevalent across social media, the need to improve vaccine literacy at a population level has become urgent. Immigrant communities face unique challenges that hinder their access to credible and coherent sources of vaccine-related information, potentially leading to reliance on disinformative sources of information. Additionally, factors such as language barriers, social exclusions, and the amplification of anti-vaccine narratives across social media culminate the perfect milieu for vaccine hesitant attitudes to propagate within immigrant communities. By identifying the determinants behind the adoption of anti-vaccine narratives among immigrant communities in Canada, strategies to counter vaccine hesitancy can be optimized to improve health education and vaccine literacy within immigrant communities.
