The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of storage temperature on fruit quality attributes and physiological disorders including peel blackening in ‘Sangjudungsi’ persimmon (Diospyros kaki Thunb.) fruit stored in air at -1, 0.5 or 3℃ for up to 3 months. Higher storage temperature reduced ethylene production but not respiration rate, compared with lower storage temperature. Flesh firmness decreased continuously as storage time passed but firmness was reduced rapidly in the fruits stored at higher storage temperature. Fresh weight loss increased at higher storage temperatures. Soluble solids content was higher at lower storage temperature than at higher storage temperature. All color variables (L*, a*, b*) were reduced by lower storage temperature, compared with higher storage temperature, regardless of tissue regions. Fruit softening increased as storage duration advanced and with the increase in storage temperature. Results indicated that the ‘Sangjudungsi’ persimmon fruits stored at higher storage temperature (3oC) could not retain fruit quality properly on account of lower flesh firmness and higher incidence of peel blackening and fruit decay, compared with lower storage temperature.
Short-term Trading and Stock Mispricing

This paper examines the influence of short-term trading on stock mispricing. Using a mispricing index proposed by Stambaugh, Yu, Yuan (2012, 2015) as a proxy for stock mispricing, This paper investigates how sensitive quarterly short-term institutional trading is to changes in the level of stock mispricing. This paper’s main finding is that trading by short-term institutions is negatively associated with the change-of-stock mispricing index, especially when stock liquidity is high. This paper supports the theoretical view of Cespa, Vives (2015), in which short-term trading can improve price informativeness when liquidity trading is persistent. Also, this research contributes to a better understanding of the interplay between short-term trading and stock mispricing, offering insights into its role in enhancing price efficiency and market dynamics.

This study examines how board independence affects fund performance related to the investment experience of independent directors. Using the 2001 SEC amendment as an exogenous shock, I find that board independence does not affect fund performance on average. However, when a board has independent directors with investment experience, it boosts fund performance. This study also finds that a fund manager is less constrained and contractual management fee is more aligned with fund performance under such a board. The findings suggest that board independence is not always beneficial to fund shareholders. Instead, its effectiveness varies depending on independent directors’ investment experience.

As the mechanism underlying glucose metabolism regulation by oxymatrine is unclear, this study investigated the effects of oxymatrine on pyroptosis in INS-1 cells. Flow cytometry was employed to examine cell pyroptosis and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. Cell pyroptosis was also investigated via transmission electron microscopy and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release. Protein levels were detected using western blotting and interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-18 secretion by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The caspase-1 activity and DNA-binding activity of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) and nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 protein (Nrf2) were also assessed. In the high glucose and high fat-treated INS-1 cells (HG + PA), the caspase-1 activity and LDH content, as well as Nod-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3, Gsdmd-N, caspase-1, apoptosis-associated specklike protein containing a CARD, IL-1β, and IL-18 levels were increased. Moreover, P65 protein levels increased in the nucleus but decreased in the cytoplasm. Oxymatrine attenuated these effects and suppressed high glucose and high fat-induced ROS production. The increased levels of nuclear Nrf2 and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) in the HG + PA cells were further elevated after oxymatrine treatment, whereas cytoplasmic Nrf2 and Keleh-like ECH-associated protein levels decreased. Additionally, the elevated transcriptional activity of p65 in HG + PA cells was reduced by oxymatrine, whereas that of Nrf2 increased. The results indicate that the inhibition of pyroptosis in INS- 1 cells by oxymatrine, a key factor in its glucose metabolism regulation, involves the suppression of the NF-κB pathway and activation of the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway.
‘‘Anode-free” Zn/LiFePO4 aqueous batteries boosted by hybrid electrolyte

Aqueous rechargeable batteries with Zn as anode directly have become prospective alternatives to conventionallithium-ion batteries. However, the growth of zinc dendrites restricts the practical applicationof Zn anode greatly. In addition, the use of thick zinc foil as anode also increases the total weight of thebattery and impacts the whole energy density. Herein, a kind of ‘‘anode-free” Zn/LiFePO4 battery (zeroexcessZn) is designed to solve such problems, and corresponding electrolyte is optimized to ensurethe electrochemical performance. As a result, ethylene glycol (EG) is added to the aqueous electrolytewith 1.5 M Zn(CF3SO3)2 and 1.5 M LiCF3SO3 as solutes, which not only improves the stability of the electrolyte, but also inhibits the growth of zinc dendrites. And the Zn/Cu batteries with 70 vol% EG/H2Ohybrid electrolyte show highly reversible Zn plating/stripping process, in which the average coulombicefficiency (ACE) is as high as 99.77 % at a current density of 1 mA cm2. In order to better adapt to the‘‘anode-free” Zn/LiFePO4 battery system, the ratio of Zn2+ to Li+ ions in this electrolyte is further optimized, and it’s found that the battery with 2 M Zn(CF3SO3)2 + 1 M LiCF3SO3-70 vol% EG/H2O electrolyteshows the most excellent electrochemical stability, in which the capacity retention rate is 75.2 % after100 cycles at a current density of 1 mA cm2. Our work makes it possible for the application of aqueous‘‘anode-free” batteries.

We investigated the effects of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP, SmartFreshTM) concentrations on fruit quality attributes associated with softening and cell wall metabolism in ‘Honggeum’ apples. Fruits were treated with 0, 0.5, or 1 μL·L-1 1-MCP and stored at 0 ± 1°C for up to 6 months. In comparison with the untreated fruits, both 1-MCP concentrations similarly reduced the internal ethylene concentration and delayed the reduction in firmness and titratable acidity; however, weight loss and soluble solids content were less affected by 0.5 μL·L-1 1-MCP compared with 1 μL·L-1 1-MCP. Peel color variables (L* and b*) were not changed by either 1-MCP treatment on both the sunlit and shaded sides. Only the a* value on the shaded side was slightly decreased among untreated fruits at 3 and 4 months in comparison with 0.5 μL·L-1 1-MCP-treated fruits. The uronic acid and total sugar contents of the cell wall and cell wall hydrolase of the enzyme activities (α- galactosidase, β-galactosidase, β-glucosidase, β-arabinosidase, β-xylosidase, and α-mannosidase) were much greater in fruits treated with 1 μL·L-1 1-MCP than in fruits treated with 0.5 μL·L-1 1-MCP and in untreated fruits. Overall, the results suggested that 1 μL·L-1 1-MCP may be an effective concentration to retain fruit quality attributes and delay fruit softening in ‘Honggeum’ apples during cold storage by reducing enzymatic activities related to cell wall hydrolysis.

Magnetically-coupled resonant wireless power transfer (MCR-WPT) system with LCL-S structure is developing for higher transmission characteristics. This paper improves the resonance topology structure by adding a compensation capacitor in the transmitting side and proposes a parameter confi guration method with equivalent impedance. The transmission characteristics are analyzed fi rst based on simulation method to determine the parameters for the system requirements of 3 kW output power at working frequency of 85 kHz. Then the improved MCR-WPT system is developed. The realization methods of key modules such as electromagnetic coupling mechanism and drive circuit are given. The experiments are designed and are used to analyze the eff ect of diff erent frequency and diff erent distance on transmission characteristics. Output power and transmission effi ciency of the designed system can be 3141 W and 91% respectively. In addition, the inverter’s performance and the system electromagnetic radiation state are evaluated. The results show that the designed system can provide an eff ective means for 3 kW WPT application at 85 kHz.
