      • Ultrasmooth, High Electron Mobility Amorphous In–Zn–O Films Grown by Atomic Layer Deposition

        Lee, Do-Joong,Kwon, Jang-Yeon,Kim, Jiyeon,Kim, Ki-Ju,Cho, Yeong-Ho,Cho, Seong-Yong,Kim, Soo-Hyun,Xu, Jimmy,Kim, Ki-Bum American Chemical Society 2014 The Journal of Physical Chemistry Part C Vol.118 No.1

<P>Ultrasmooth and highly conductive amorphous In–Zn–O (<I>a</I>-IZO) films are grown by atomic layer deposition (ALD). This opens a new pathway to highly transparent and conductive oxides with an extreme conformality. In this process, <I>a</I>-IZO films of various compositions are deposited by alternate stacking of ZnO and In2O3 atomic-layers at a temperature of 200 °C. The IZO films have an amorphous phase over a wide composition range, 43.2–91.5 at %, of In cation ratio. The In-rich <I>a</I>-IZO film (83.2 at % In) exhibits a very low resistivity of 3.9 × 10–4 Ω cm and extremely high electron mobility in excess of 50 cm2 V–1 s–1, one of the highest among the reported ALD-grown transparent conducting oxides. Moreover, it exhibits an ultrasmooth surface (∼0.2 nm in root-mean-square roughness), and can be conformally coated onto nanotrench structures (inlet size: 25 nm) with excellent step coverage of 96%.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jpccck/2014/jpccck.2014.118.issue-1/jp409738f/production/images/medium/jp-2013-09738f_0001.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/jp409738f'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

A Review of Brain-derived Neurotrophic Factor as a Candidate Biomarker in Schizophrenia

        Milawaty Nurjono,Jimmy Lee,Siow-Ann Chong 대한정신약물학회 2012 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.10 No.2

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a neurotrophin known to be responsible for development, regeneration, survival and maintenance of neurons has been implicated in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. This review seeks to complement previous reviews on biological roles of BDNF and summarizes evidence on the involvement of BDNF in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia with an emphasis on clinical relevance. The expressions of BDNF were altered in patients with schizophrenia and were found to be correlated with psychotic symptomatology. Antipsychotics appeared to have differential effects on expression of BDNF but did not restore BDNF expression of patients with schizophrenia to normal levels. In addition, evidence suggests that BDNF is involved in the major neurotransmitter systems and is associated with disruptions in brain structure, neurodevelopmental process, cognitive function, metabolic and immune systems commonly associated with schizophrenia. Besides that, BDNF has been demonstrated to be tightly regulated with estrogen which has also been previously implicated in schizophrenia. Evidence gathered in this review confirms the relevance of BDNF in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia and the potential utility of BDNF as a suitable biomarker for diagnostic and prognostic purposes for disease outcome and other co-morbidities. However, further investigations are warranted to examine the specificity of BDNF in schizophrenia compared to other neurodegenerative disorders and other neuropsychiatric illness. Longitudinal prospective studies will also be of added advantage for evaluation of prognostic utility of BDNF in schizophrenia.

Regulation of Interleukin-6 and Leptin in Schizophrenia Patients: A Preliminary Analysis

        Sasi Neelamekam,Jimmy Lee,Milawaty Nurjono 대한정신약물학회 2014 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.12 No.3

Objective: Immune-inflammatory mediators play a pivotal role in brain signaling and have been increasingly associated withthe pathophysiology of schizophrenia. Many studies have indicated an increased level of immune-inflammatory interleukin-6(IL-6) in schizophrenia. IL-6 is a well-known chief stimulator of inflammation. Of late leptin has also been implicated in theinflammatory pathway of schizophrenia. In this study we measured and compared serum levels of IL-6 and leptin in patientswith schizophrenia to healthy controls, and investigated the relationship between IL-6 and leptin. Methods: Serum IL-6 and leptin were determined in 20 patients diagnosed with schizophrenia and in 19 healthy controls matchedby gender, age and body mass index (BMI) using commercial Bioplex assays. Results: Using Mann-Whitney U-test, significantly increased IL-6 levels were found in the patients but there was no significantdifference in leptin levels though a trend towards higher leptin was observed in the patients. Spearman correlations did notshow any correlation between IL-6 and clinical variables except antipsychotic dosage. Leptin significantly correlated with genderand BMI. A large effect size correlation was observed between IL-6 and leptin in the patients but not in the controls. Multipleregression analysis performed on patients, after adjusting for gender and BMI, revealed there was no significant associationbetween IL-6 and leptin. Conclusion: IL-6 and leptin levels may reflect the chronic inflammatory state associated with schizophrenia but further evaluationis required. Also, it is important to consider the confounding effects of obesity in any examination of relationships between groupswith regard to cytokines and adipokines.

Reflectivity spectra and colors of porous anodic aluminum oxide containing silver nanoparticles by plasmonic absorption.

        Hu, Quanli,Lee, Hyun Ho,Jeong, Dae-Yong,Kim, Yong-Sang,Kim, Ki-Bum,Xu, Jimmy,Yoon, Tae-Sik American Scientific Publishers 2012 Journal of nanoscience and nanotechnology Vol.12 No.3

<P>The reflectivity spectra and color of porous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) nanostructures containing the assembly of silver (Ag) nanoparticles (NPs) with a diameter of -10 nm were investigated. The Ag NPs were assembled inside the pores of AAO with a diameter of -60 nm by dip-coating process during which Ag NPs adsorbed on the surface of AAO and driven inside the pores by capillary force upon the evaporation of solvent. The reflectivity spectra and associated colors of AAO with Ag NPs were determined by the plasmonic absorption of light by Ag NPs. Even with the monolayer coverage of Ag NPs in the pores of AAO, the reflectivity is significantly reduced specifically at -465 nm wavelength by a strong plasmonic absorption, resulting in its golden color. Aggregating Ag NPs by post-annealing at 300 and 400 degrees C changed the color to pink due to the red-shift of absorption. These results are indicative of potential color-engineering of NPs/AAO platform by wavelength-selective reduction of reflected light intensity and using it in direct optical read-out of change of surface and morphology conditions.</P>

도시재생과 도시정비 연계사업 모델 및 정책제안

        김경훈(Kim, Kyunghoon Jimmy),박재훈(Park, Jaehoon),이제선(Lee, Jea-Sun) 도시정책학회 2021 도시부동산연구 Vol.12 No.2

As a result of the continuous growth since the 1960s, many cities of the Republic of Korea are suffering from deterioration of the buildings. On account of the issue, current government designated Urban Regeneration New Deal as a national policy and expected to solve various urban issues, but, even with the 10 trillion won-budgets every year, the ability of housing supply is insignificant. To supplement current national policies and investigate for alternative project models, this paper conducted the following purposes. First, to confirm the needs of alternative project models, it conducted literature review about current states of urban improvement and urban regeneration projects. Second, it operated in-depth interview on the experts to derive conceptual models in order to integrate urban regeneration and urban improvement. Finally, it applied derived models on the designated project area. This study has significances that it suggested new integrated models of urban regeneration and urban improvement. Our findings will lead to provide another insight on potential alternatives to solve the issue of urban deterioration.

A Systematic Review of the Effectiveness of Medical Cannabis for Psychiatric, Movement and Neurodegenerative Disorders

Keane Lim,Yuen Mei See,Jimmy Lee 대한정신약물학회 2017 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.15 No.4

The discovery of endocannabinoid’s role within the central nervous system and its potential therapeutic benefits have brought forth rising interest in the use of cannabis for medical purposes. The present review aimed to synthesize and evaluate the available evidences on the efficacy of cannabis and its derivatives for psychiatric, neurodegenerative and movement disorders. A systematic search of randomized controlled trials of cannabis and its derivatives were conducted via databases (PubMed, Embase and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials). A total of 24 reports that evaluated the use of medical cannabis for Alzheimer’s disease, anorexia nervosa, anxiety, dementia, dystonia, Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), psychosis and Tourette syndrome were included in this review. Trial quality was assessed with the Cochrane risk of bias tool. There is a lack of evidence on the therapeutic effects of cannabinoids for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and dystonia. Although trials with positive findings were identified for anorexia nervosa, anxiety, PTSD, psychotic symptoms, agitation in Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, Huntington’s disease, and Tourette syndrome, and dyskinesia in Parkinson’s disease, definitive conclusion on its efficacy could not be drawn. Evaluation of these low-quality trials, as rated on the Cochrane risk of bias tools, was challenged by methodological issues such as inadequate description of allocation concealment, blinding and underpowered sample size. More adequately powered controlled trials that examine the long and short term efficacy, safety and tolerability of cannabis for medical use, and the mechanisms underpinning the therapeutic potential are warranted.

      • Scalable synthesis of an architectural library of well‐defined poly(acrylic acid) derivatives: Role of structure on dispersant performance

        Lunn, David J.,Seo, Sungbaek,Lee, Sang‐,Ho,Zerdan, Raghida Bou,Mattson, Kaila M.,Treat, Nicolas J.,McGrath, Alaina J.,Gutekunst, Will R.,Lawrence, Jimmy,Abdilla, Allison,Anastasaki, Athina,Knigh John WileySons, Inc. 2019 Journal of polymer science Part A, Polymer chemist Vol.57 No.6

<P><B>ABSTRACT</B></P><P>The synthesis and systematic comparison of a comprehensive library of well‐defined polymer architectures based on poly(acrylic acid) is reported. Through the development of new synthetic methodologies, linear, single branched, precision‐branched comb, and star polymers were prepared and their performance as dispersants was evaluated. The ability to accurately control chain lengths and branch points allows the subtle interplay between structure and dispersant performance to be defined and affords critical insights into the design of improved polymeric additives for coating formulations. The general industrial relevance of ionic polymers and branched macromolecular architectures supports these design rules for a wide range of other applications and materials, including as additives for personal care products and in water treatment. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. • Determining the Dilution Exponent for Entangled 1,4-Polybutadienes Using Blends of Near-Monodisperse Star with Unentangled, Low Molecular Weight Linear Polymers

        Hall, Ryan,Kang, Beom-Goo,Lee, Sanghoon,Chang, Taihyun,Venerus, David C.,Hadjichristidis, Nikos,Mays, Jimmy,Larson, Ronald G. American Chemical Society 2019 Macromolecules Vol.52 No.4

<P>We determine experimentally the “dilution exponent” α for entangled polymers from the scaling of terminal crossover frequency with entanglement density from the linear rheology of three 1,4-polybutadiene star polymers that are blended with low-molecular-weight, unentangled linear 1,4-polybutadiene at various star volume fractions, ϕ<I>s</I>. Assuming that the rheology of monodisperse stars depends solely on the plateau modulus <I>G</I><I>N</I>(ϕs) ∝ ϕ<I>s</I>1+α, the number of entanglements per chain <I>M</I><I>e</I>(ϕ<I>s</I>) ∝ ϕ<I>s</I>-α, and the tube-segment frictional Rouse time τ<I>e</I>(ϕ<I>s</I>) ∝ ϕ<I>s</I>-2α, we show that only an α = 1 scaling superposes the <I>M</I><I>e</I>(ϕ<I>s</I>) dependence of the terminal crossover frequency ω<I>x</I>,<I>t</I> of the blends with those of pure stars, not α = 4/3. This is the first determination of α for star polymers that does not rely on any particular tube model implementation. We also show that a generalized tube model, the “Hierarchical model”, using the “Das” parameter set with α = 1 reasonably predicts the rheological data of the melts and blends featured in this paper.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>
