      • A Parallel Method of Deep Packet Inspection based on Message-Passing Interface

        With the increasing number of cores in multicore processors, it is challenging task how to take advantage of powerful parallel computing for the deep packet inspection. This paper introduces the deep packet inspection with a parallel method which exploits the message-passing interface (MPI). The parallel procedure includes the master thread and the slave thread. The master assigns the data packet to the slave. The slave executes the string matching with rules for inspecting. Both the master and the slave communicate by using MPI functions. The experimental results show that the parallel method is suitable for the trend of the increasing number of cores in multicore processors. Moreover, when the number of threads is equal to the number of cores in multicore processors, the performance arrives at the maximum throughput.

        Tardive tremor is an infrequently form of tardive syndrome that is developed from prolonged treatment with dopamine receptor blocking agents. This condition presents as a prominent tremor that may cause significant distress but currently lacks effective treatment. Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) has been applied to treat tardive syndrome. In this study, we report a 74-year-old female patient with major depressive disorder, whose tardive tremor and depressive symptoms showed remarkable improvement after receiving 10 sessions of ECT treatment.

        A Retrospective Study of the Effect of Spinopelvic Parameters on Fatty Infiltration in Paraspinal Muscles in Patients With Lumbar Spondylolisthesis

        Objective: The effect on fat infiltration (FI) of paraspinal muscles in degenerative lumbar spinal diseases has been demonstrated except for spinopelvic parameters. The present study is to identify the effect of spinopelvic parameters on FI of paraspinal muscle (PSM) and psoas major muscle (PMM) in patients with degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis. Methods: A single-center, retrospective cross-sectional study of 160 patients with degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis (DLS) and lumbar stenosis (LSS) who had lateral full-spine x-ray and lumbar spine magnetic resonance imaging was conducted. PSM and PMM FIs were defined as the ratio of fat to its muscle cross-sectional area. The FIs were compared among patients with different pelvic tilt (PT) and pelvic incidence (PI), respectively. Results: The PSM FI correlated significantly with pelvic parameters in DLS patients, but not in LSS patients. The PSM FI in pelvic retroversion (PT > 25°) was 0.54 ± 0.13, which was significantly higher in DLS patients than in normal pelvis (0.41 ± 0.14) and pelvic anteversion (PT < 5°) (0.34 ± 0.12). The PSM FI of DLS patients with large PI ( > 60°) was 0.50 ± 0.13, which was higher than those with small ( < 45°) and normal PI (0.37 ± 0.11 and 0.36 ± 0.13). However, the PSM FI of LSS patients didn’t change significantly with PT or PI. Moreover, the PMM FI was about 0.10–0.15, which was significantly lower than the PSM FI, and changed with PT and PI in a similar way of PSM FI with much less in magnitude. Conclusion: FI of the PSMs increased with greater pelvic retroversion or larger pelvic incidence in DLS patients, but not in LSS patients.

        Effects of supplemental glycerol polyethylene glycol ricinoleate in different energy density diets on the growth performance, blood profiles, nutrient utilization, and excreta gas emission of broilers: focus on dietary glycerol polyethylene glycol ricino

        This study evaluated the effects of glycerol polyethylene glycol ricinoleate (GPGR) supplementation in different energy density diets on the growth performance, blood profiles, excreta gas emission, and total tract apparent retention (TTAR) of nutrients in broilers. A total of 544 one-day-old male Ross broilers were used in a 35-day trial. The broilers were allocated into one of four treatment groups in a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement with two levels of energy densities (a normal energy or decreased energy density) and GPGR (0 and 0.035%). From day 18 to 35, the GPGR supplemented and normal energy density diet groups showed a significantly improved (p < 0.05) body weight gain (BWG). Meanwhile, the GPGR supplemented diet group had a significantly reduced (p < 0.05) feed conversion ratio (FCR) compared to that of the nonsupplemented diet group. From day 0 to 35, the GPGR supplemented diet and the normal energy density diet groups had a significantly increased (p < 0.01) BWG and a reduced (p < 0.01) FCR. Moreover, GPGR supplementation tended to increase (p < 0.1) the TTAR of the dry matter (DM) compared with the non-supplemented diets. Likewise, the normal energy density diets had a significantly improved TTAR for the gross energy (GE) (p < 0.05) than that of the decreased energy density diets. No interactive effects were observed between the energy density and GPGR supplemented diets. In conclusion, both dietary GPGR supplementation and normal energy density diets had beneficial effects on the growth performance of broiler chickens without any adverse effects on blood profiles and excreta gas emission.

        Effects of multi-enzyme supplementation in a corn and soybean meal-based diet on growth performance, apparent digestibility, blood characteristics, fecal microbes and noxious gas emission in growing pigs

        The objective of this study was to determine the effect of multi-enzyme supplementation in a corn and soybean meal-based diet on the growth performance, apparent nutrient digestibility, blood profile, fecal microbes and noxious gas emission in growing pigs. A total of 80 crossbred [(Landrace × Yorkshire) × Duroc] growing pigs with an average body weight (BW) of 25.04 ± 1.44 kg were used in a 6-week experiment. The experimental treatments were as follows: CON, basal diet and; T1, basal diet + 100 mg/kg multi-enzyme. During the experiment, the pigs fed the diet with multi-enzyme supplementation had a higher gain to feed ratio (G/F) (p < 0.05) than the pigs fed the diet without multi-enzyme supplementation. On day 42, the pigs fed the diet with multi-enzyme supplementation had decreased H2S and NH3 emissions (p < 0.05) than the pigs fed the diet without multi-enzyme supplementation. However, no effect was observed on nutrient digestibility, blood profiles and fecal microbes among the treatments (p > 0.05). In conclusion, it is suggested that multi-enzyme supplementation in a corn and soybean meal based diet can partly improve the growth performance and noxious gas emission of growing pigs.

        Evaluation of seasonal effects on production performance of lactation sows reared in two different environments in South Korea

        This study was conducted to evaluate seasonal effects on production performance of lactation sows reared in two different environments in South Korea. A total of 76 sows (Landrace × Yorkshire) from the Dankook University experimental farm and 120 sows (Landrace × Yorkshire) from a commercial farm were collected. In the current study, reduced (p < 0.01) feed intake and energy intake during lactation were observed in warm season compared with cool season in both farms. Sows in cool season had higher backfat thickness at weaning but lower back fat loss (p < 0.01) than those in warm season. The weaning to estrus interval was lower (p < 0.01) in cool season than in warm season. Piglets weaned in warm season had lower (p < 0.01) body weight (BW), body weight gain (BWG), and average daily gain (ADG) at weaning than did those weaned in cool season on the Dankook University farm, whereas the reduction effect was only observed during 0 - 21 d on the commercial farm (p < 0.01). Moreover, piglets weaned in cool season had higher BW, BWG, and ADG (p < 0.05) on both farms. In conclusion, our results indicate that warm season had very negative effects on feed intake and production performance of lactating sows and piglets.

        Curcumin targets vascular endothelial growth factor via activating the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway and improves brain hypoxic-ischemic injury in neonatal rats

        This study aimed to evaluate the effect of curcumin on brain hypoxicischemic (HI) damage in neonatal rats and whether the phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt/vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) signaling pathway is involved. Brain HI damage models were established in neonatal rats, which received the following treatments: curcumin by intraperitoneal injection before injury, insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) by subcutaneous injection after injury, and VEGF by intracerebroventricular injection after injury. This was followed by neurological evaluation, hemodynamic measurements, histopathological assessment, TUNEL assay, flow cytometry, and western blotting to assess the expression of p-PI3K, PI3K, p-Akt, Akt, and VEGF. Compared with rats that underwent sham operation, rats with brain HI damage showed remarkably increased neurological deficits, reduced right blood flow volume, elevated blood viscosity and haematocrit, and aggravated cell damage and apoptosis; these injuries were significantly improved by curcumin pretreatment. Meanwhile, brain HI damage induced the overexpression of p-PI3K, p-Akt, and VEGF, while curcumin pretreatment inhibited the expression of these proteins. In addition, IGF-1 treatment rescued the curcumin-induced down-regulated expression of p- PI3K, p-Akt, and VEGF, and VEGF overexpression counteracted the inhibitory effect of curcumin on brain HI damage. Overall, pretreatment with curcumin protected against brain HI damage by targeting VEGF via the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway in neonatal rats.

        Analyze the Narrative Mode of Bong Joon-ho’s Film Through “Okja”

        봉준호는 한국에서 첫손가락에 꼽히는 영화감독이다. 그의 영화는 마치할리우드 체계 속에 있는 반(反)할리우드영화와 같고, 영화산업 작품의 특징과 성숙도를 지니고 있으며, 장르영화의 서사적 껍질을 가지고 있다. 또한 동시에 문화 반성 및“작가주의 영화”의 입장에서 장르영화모델을 비난하며, 전통적인 장르영화를 초월해 일종의 독특한 개인적인 스타일을 만들었다. 한국괴수 영화의 대표작인 〈괴물〉, 연쇄살인사건을 각색한 스릴러미스터리영화인 〈살인의 추억〉, 또는 인간성 회복을 탐구하는 〈마더〉 등의 영화들을 살펴보면 봉준호는 일종의 사회적 의제를 “영화화”하는 능력을 가지고 있으며,“작가주의영화”와 대중문화 생산을 접목시켰다고 할 수 있다. 서사모델에 있어 봉준호는 장르영화의 요소 특징과 할리우드 영화의‘3막식’서서구조를 참고했지만 그대로 옮기지 않고 이를 바탕으로 관례를 돌파하고 혁신을 함으로써 자신이 감독한 영화에‘봉씨영화’의 태그를 붙이는 데 성공했다. 본고는 봉준호가 감독한 영화인 〈옥자〉의 주제선택, 인물창조와 서사구조에 대해 분석하고 봉준호 영화가 할리우드 영화의 서사모델을 어떻게 운용하고 초월하는지 분석한다. Bong Joon-ho is one of the most famous Korea film director. His films just like the type of anti-Hollywood movie that operates in the Hollywood system. It has the qualities and maturity of the film industry as well as the genre of narrative surface. It also stands in the cultural reflection and the "author movie" position to attack the type pattern, transcending traditional genre films to get a unique personal style. Regardless of the Korean representative monster type film--"The Host", a horror suspense film from the real serial killing case--"Memories of Murder", or "Mother" that has returned to the talk of human nature, Bong Joon-ho has always had an ability of "picturizing" the social issues. In terms of narrative mode, Bong Joon-ho makes reference to the element characteristics of the genre films and Hollywood film narrative structure of "three-act structure" , not blindly copy, but broke through the routine and made bold innovation, and successfully labeled all the films directed as "Bong Joon-ho’s films" on this basis. This paper through the analysis of the aspects of subject selection, characterization and narrative structure for the movie "Okja" , explored Bong Joon-ho"s film for the use and surpass of Hollywood movie narrative system.

        Validation Study of the Chinese Version of Addenbrooke’s Cognitive Examination III for Diagnosing Mild Cognitive Impairment and Mild Dementia

        Background and Purpose There are only a few cognitive screening tests for the Chinesespeaking population, and so this study aimed to validate the Chinese version of Addenbrooke’s Cognitive Examination III (ACE-III) for detecting mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and mild dementia. Its diagnostic accuracy was compared with the Chinese versions of the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). Methods The 176 included individuals were divided into 3 groups: mild dementia group, MCI group, and normal control group. MMSE, MoCA, and ACE-III were administered to all participants by researchers who were blinded to the clinical grouping. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were analyzed. Results ACE-III exhibited good internal consistency and convergent validity. Age and education level significantly influenced the total ACE-III scores. When screening MCI, the area under the ROC curve (AUC) was significantly larger for ACE-III than for MMSE (0.88 vs. 0.72, p<0.05) and MoCA (0.88 vs. 0.76, p<0.05). ACE-III showed higher sensitivity (0.75) and specificity (0.89) than MMSE (0.64 and 0.63, respectively) and MoCA (0.67 and 0.77) at the optimal cutoff score of 88/89. For detecting mild dementia, ACE-III yielded satisfactory sensitivity (0.94) and specificity (0.83) at the optimal cutoff score of 74/75. The AUC of ACE-III was 0.95, which was comparable to those of MMSE (0.95) and MoCA (0.91). In participants with ≥12 years of education, the AUC was significantly larger for ACE-III than for MMSE when detecting MCI (0.90 vs. 0.68, p<0.05) and mild dementia (0.97 vs. 0.90, p<0.05). Conclusions The present study has verified that ACE-III is a reliable and accurate tool for screening MCI and mild dementia in the Chinese-speaking population, and is significantly superior to MMSE and MoCA for detecting MCI.
