This study was conducted to find green color diversity through combination dyeing of natural dyestuffs. Silk fabrics were dyed in combination with good fastness of natural indigo and yellowish natural dyes. Following combination dyeing, three kinds of mordants were treated. The color characteristics of silk fabrics with combination dyeing were measured. The greens of silk fabrics displayed slight differences according to the combination dyeing sequence. It was found that dyeing with indigo followed by yellow resulted in good green color ( GY, G, BG ). The green represented by the concentration of indigo (niram) showed a slight difference. Green colors ( GY, G, BG ) were more strongly expressed when the concentration of indigo was 5-10 g/l. The green color of combination dyed fabrics showed a slight difference according to the kind of yellowish natural dyestuffs used. The use of turmeric and Amur cork tree was more effective than the Japanese pagoda tree after dyeing with indigo first. When dyeing with indigo followed by a yellowish dye, color characteristics were different according to the type of mordant. Additionally, the color characteristics of silk fabrics treated with mordants were not significantly changed compared to fabrics not treated with mordant for dyeing with Japanese pagoda tree and turmeric. However, the color characteristics of silk fabrics dyed with Amur cork tree were slightly changed.

Symbiotic bacteria are common in insects. Because symbiotic bacteria are known to intimately affect the various aspects of insect host biology, ideally insects can be controlled by manipulating their symbiont. However, the attempts to control insects through their symbiont have been very limited. The paucity of the insect pest control using their symbiont is most likely due to the poor understanding of the symbiotic interactions between host insect and symbiont, which is attributed to the difficulty in cultivation of insect symbionts. However, the recently established bean bug, Riptortus pedestris, symbiotic system provides good opportunities to study insect’s symbiont in molecular level through their cultivable symbionts. Bean bugs acquire genus Burkholderia cells from environment and harbor them as their gut symbionts in the specialized posterior midgut. The genome of the Burkholderia symbiont was sequenced, and the genomic information has been used to generate the genetically manipulated Burkholderia symbiont strains. After orally administering the mutant Burkholderia symbionts into bean bugs for symbiotic association, the bacterial colonization levels in the host gut and host phenotypes were analyzed. As a result, we have identified novel symbiotic factors necessary for establishing successful association with host. Our recent understandings on the bacterial symbiotic factors demonstrate a great possibility to control the bean bug pest using genetically modified Burkholderia symbiont.

Background and Objectives : Several speech manifestation are observed in temporal lobe epilepsy(TLE). We studied the frequency of ictal speech manifestations and their localizing and lateralizing value in TLE. Methods : We reviewed 379 seizures recorded on videotape in 135 patients who underwent temporal lobectomy for intractable TLE. We divided patients into group A(n=75) who became seizures free after surgery, and group B(n=60) who were only slightly benefited or unchanged after surgery. Speech manifestations were classified as normal speech, vocalization, or abnormal speech. Abnormal speech was subdivided into speech arrest, dysarthria, dysphasia, or nonidentifiable speech. Results : Speech manifestations occurred in 70(18.5%) seizures of 28 patients. Forty eight seizures of 20 patients were observed in group A, and 22 seizures of 8 patients were observed in group B. In group A, 25 seizures of 11 patients were originating from dominant hemisphere, 23 seizures of 9 patients from nondominant hemisphere. In group B, 13 seizures of 5 patients were originating from dominant hemisphere, and 9 seizures in Lt. side and 6 seizures in Rt. side, respectively) of group A(P>0.05), and eleven seizures of 4 patients(8 seizures from Lt. side and 3 seizure from Rt. side) in group B(P>0.05). Normal speech was observed only seizures from Rt. side in both groups(3 seizures in 1 patient, each group). Dysphasia occurred only in seizures originating from Lt. side. Nonidentifiable speech occurred in 22 seizures of 9 patients(11 seizures from each side) in group A(P<0.01), and 3 seizures of 1 patient occurred only from Lt. side in group B. Conclusion : Ictal speech manifestations were not uncommon(18.5%). All kinds of ictal speech manifestations except normal speech have no reliable lateralizing and localizing value in TLE. Normal speech could be a good indicator of seizure originating from nondominant hemisphere.
Improved Stack Structure of Rollable Display to Prevent Delamination and Permanent Deformation

In this study, an improved multi-layer structure was proposed to prevent delamination and permanent deformation in a rollable display. After obtaining the equivalent material properties of the OLED panel using homogenization method, the strain of each layer in rollable display was estimated through fi nite element analysis, and the possibility of delamination and plastic deformation was predicted based on the yield strain in each fi lm layer and the shear strain in adhesives between fi lm layers. As the display module rolls, the difference of displacement between layers accumulates and the shear strain in adhesives increases. The delamination and the permanent deformation has been resolved using high modulus adhesives and hyper-elastic cover fi lm material.

Lee Hyo Seok wrote “Yeo Su” (여수) as the novelization of Julien Duvivier’s film, Pépé le Moko, which is translated into Nostalgia (망향) under the Japanese Empire. For the most part, Korea under Japanese rule accepted Western literature and movies through Japan. Therefore, Western cultural products that arrived in colonial Chosun are a reflection of the two kinds of empires. The main character of Pépé le Moko, Pépé, is captivated by Gaby. Here, Gaby represents the modern city Paris, and this is the reason Pépé became disillusioned with Casbah, which gave him shelter. That means he suffers from nostalgia for a modern nation (or city), and Japan replaces Pépé ’ s nostalgia with homesickness. It’s only possible to empathize with a modern nation. Because modernity is not completed in the colonial Chosun, however, modernity occasionally is understood as a consequence of the colonization. In this context, the study focuses on the mutual negotiation of literature and film on the path of cultural acceptance in the colonial era of Chosun. In contrast to the pursuit of Eurocentric identity revealed in the film, Lee strove to create characters who were excluded from the severe competition among empires. As a result, the narrator of “Yeo Su” identifies himself as a traveler because he projects himself onto stateless people. As well, the nostalgia of the empires is switched to traveller’s melancholy.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A facile method to synthesize Bi-containing sea urchin-like Pt nanoparticles is demonstrated. The morphology and chemical composition of the prepared Bi-containing sea urchin-like Pt nanoparticles were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Electrochemical studies of the oxidation of methanol in an acidic medium using the Bi-containing sea urchin-like Pt nanoparticles were performed. The prepared nanoparticles exhibited enhanced electrocatalytic activity for methanol oxidation with a seven-fold higher oxidation current density and a more negative onset potential than commercial Pt/C (Pt 20%). Moreover, the current density of the Bi-containing sea urchin-like Pt nanoparticle/C catalysts was high even after 900 s of continuous electrocatalysis at 0.56 V. The synthesized Bi-containing sea urchin-like Pt nanoparticles should find attractive applications in various fields, such as fuel cells, sensors, and eletro- or organic catalysis.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> We have demonstrated a method for the synthesis of Bi-containing sea urchin-like Pt nanoparticles. </LI> <LI> Bi-containing sea urchin-like Pt nanoparticles are excellent electrocatalysts for MeOH oxidation. </LI> <LI> Bi-containing sea urchin-like Pt nanoparticles show enhanced electrocatalytic activity and stability. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

<P>Nanophotonics capable of directing radiation or enhancing quantum-emitter transition rates rely on plasmonic nanoantennas. We present here a novel Babinet-inverted magnetic-dipole-fed multislot optical Yagi–Uda antenna that exhibits highly unidirectional radiation to free space, achieved by engineering the relative phase of the interacting surface plasmon polaritons between the slot elements. Historical studies on Korean dictionaries for international learners have been unprecedented so far. In this article, the present state and research trends of the study of Korean dictionaries was investigated and analyzed. To this end, 88 relevant dissertations and journal articles were selected as base research subjects. Following that, all subjects were analyzed according to the following three criteria. First, dissertations and journal articles were differentiated and analyzed according to different period from the 1990s to present, as well as every five years in the same period. Secondly, research subjects were investigated based on different learners and languages. Thirdly, the analysis was proceeded by different 8 topics. Finally, the tendency and characteristic of this study was identified, and a research direction was proposed.
