      • Two cases of Bowen`s disease successfully treated with ingenol mebutate (PICATO®)

        Bowen’s disease is an intra-epidermal squamous cell carcinoma in situ of skin. When surgical approach is unaffordable, nonsurgical therapies (e.g. topical agents) can provide alternative treatment options. Ingenol mebutate is a novel topical agent extracted from Euphorbia peplus, which has been approved by the FDA for the field therapy in actinic keratosis. We report two cases of Bowen’s disease successfully treated with ingenol mebutate gel. The first case is a 68 year old woman woman presented with gray-to-red irregular shaped plaque on her shin. Histopathologic findings were consistent with Bowen’s disease. The patient was treated with 0.05% ingenol mebutate gel combined with CO2 fractional resurfacing laser. Follow-up skin biopsy revealed no evidence of remnant lesion. The second case is an 82 year old woman with Bowen’s disease on her left cheek. Even after four times of cryotherapy the lesion was not completely removed. After applying 0.015% ingenol mebutate, the lesion was cleared and no recurrence was observed after one year. Until now, there have been few reports demonstrating the efficacy of ingenol mebutate for the treatment of BD. We suggest that ingenol mebutate might useful and effective treatment option for BD, leading to optimal cosmetic result.

        Pulmonary inflammation caused by silica dioxide nanoparticles in mice via TXNIP/NLRP3 signaling pathway

        Background Silica dioxide nanoparticles (SiONPs) have been used for various medical applications, including therapeutics and imaging, and the use of SiONPs has increased gradually over the years. However, despite an increase in the use of SiONPs, not much is known about mechanism of action of SiONPs and their pulmonary toxicity. Objective The present study investigated the pulmonary toxicity of SiONPs and explored the underlying mechanism of action, primarily focusing on thioredoxin-interacting protein (TXNIP)/NOD-like receptor pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3) in SiONPs-treated mice. We investigated the toxic effects of SiONPs in the lung of BALB/c mice administered 5, 10, and 20 mg/kg SiONPs for 3 days. Results Exposure to SiONPs markedly increased inflammatory cell counts, including those of neutrophils and macrophages, and levels of inflammatory mediators, such as interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor-α in a dose-dependent manner in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. Moreover, the inflammation was verified upon histopathological analysis. In addition, exposure to SiONPs increased the expression of TXNIP in a dose-dependent manner and, in turn, upregulated NLRP3 inflammasome proteins, which subsequently induced IL-1β production. Conclusion Collectively, exposure to SiONPs induced inflammation in the lungs of mice, which resulted in the activation of IL-1β production via the TXNIP-NLRP3 axis. Our results provide useful information on the pulmonary toxicity induced by SiONPs and provide insights into the underlying mechanism of action.

        남성화 암쥐의 모리스 수중 미로 수행력 : 성에 따른 공간기억력과 테스토르테론 효과의 차이

        Objectives : It is widely accepted that gonadal steroids are involved in organization and activation of sexual dimorphism in the brain areas related with spatial leaming. This study aimed to test the following hypothesis : 1) spatial memory is affected by sex, 2) this difference is related with brain differentiation by exposure to testosterone in the neonatal period, and/or 3) the sexual difference of spatial memory is the result of the interaction between organization of sexual dimorphism in the brain and the circulating testosterone after growing up. Methods : Testosterone enanthate 100 ㎍, ('androgenized') orvehicle ('control') was randomly administered to 28 female and 25 male rat pups within 24 hour of birth. The escape latencies (EL) in Morris water maze were measured in 15 and 16 week of age with vehicle ('baseline') and with 10 μmol/kg of testosterone ('with testosterone'), respectively. Each session Consis-ted of 10 trials, and means of the last 5 trials were analyzed. Results : The baseline EL of the males were significantly shorter than females regardless ofneonatal exposure to testosterone. With testosterone, EL of the androgenized females were significantly shorter than control females and comparable to those of males. Conclusion : Neonatal exposure to testosterone in female rats may develop a tesosterone-dependent male-like spatial leaming system.

      • 태권도 옆차기와 돌려차기의 3차원 운동형태의 비교

        The study compared to skills of Yeopchagi and Dolyeochagi in Taekwondo with the 3d kinematic analysis. To compare both of two skills, the study was analyzed as the relative time during the skills performed, the kinematic characteristics of individual segment, the relationship of inter-segment and the ranges of motion in 3d space. A performance time was mort shortened Dolyeochagi than Yeopchagi. A relative time that the time minimized angle of shank was later Dolyeochagi than Yeopchagi. The characteristic of kinematic of Individual segments showed clearly different in the flexion/extension plane. The angle of thigh increased continuously at an impact in Yeopchagi, but the angle stopped or decreased in Dolyeochagi at that time. The relationship of inter-segment showed difference largely between two skills in the flexion/extension plane, but the other plane showed no difference. These results were due to anatomical functional difference between two joints. The ranges of motion in 3d space were different at the abduction/adduction and the internal/external rotation.

        다구치법에 의한 고 규소 내산주철의 용해주조공정 최적화

        In this study, Taguchi method, one of the design tools of experiments, was applied to optimize casting process parameters of the high silicon corrosion-resistant iron. Three casting process parameters such as melting temperature, rare earth metal (mischmetal) addition, and pouring temperature were chosen. Using SN (signal-to-noise) ratio calculated from ultimate tensile strength of each experimental casting run, the relationship between the casting parameters and mechanical properties was statistically evaluated. The casting condition of a melting temperature of 1,650℃, 0.2% rare earth metal addition, and a pouring temperature of 1,350℃ led to an excellent ultimate tensile strength above 11 kgf/mm², which is beyond the industrial criterion. The effects of the casting parameters on mechanical properties and corrosion resistance were further confirmed by combined analysis of fractography, hydrogen content determination, microscopic test, and acid resistance test.       • 膜分離에 의한 海水의 淡水化에 관한 硏究

        In this study, we made investigation into water permeation, solute separation, concentration and Na^(+), K^(+), Mg^(2+), Ca^(2+), Cl^(-), SO^(2)_(4)-, HCO^(-)_(3) ions separation of seawater by the revers osmosis process using a suitable semipermeable membrane. The different thickness of membranes were prepared. On heat treatment, temperature was 80℃ and thier effects were also investigated. The flat single module system was made to be capable of treating feed solution at 200-2000cc/min and 120 atm. The experimental results can be summerized as follows: 1) As the effective operating pressure increased, permeability of pure water proportionally increased. 2) As the exposure period of the manufactured membrane in air increased, permeation rate increased, but as the thickness of the membrane increased, permeation rate decreased. 3) The capacity for being reproductive of the manufactured membrane (CA: 30wt%, Formamide: 45wt%, Acetone: 25wt%) in their performance was less than 10-30% and agreed with that reported in the literature. 4) We could separated about 85-95% of salt ion in seawater using a flat single module system.

      • 경도 및 중등도 근시환자에서 PRK 후 교정법에 따른 인공수정체 도수 비교

        To compare IOL powers which are calculated by post-op keratometric(K) values and refraction derived K values, and by refraction corrected method, respectively, in patients who have been treated with excimer laser photorefractive keratectomy(PRK) for mild to moderate myopia. A total of 38 consecutive eyes of 23 patients who were treated with PRK for mild to moderate myopia have been followed up for more than 6 months. IOL powers from SRK/T formula by post-op K values and refraction derived K values were compared with IOL powers by refraction corrected method. The mean values of IOL powers using post-op K values, refraction derived K values, and refraction corrected method were 20.69±0.93(18.21 to 22.93) diopter(D), 20.81±0.88 D(18.60 to 22.43), and 21.26±0.79 D(19.08 to 23.03) respectively. There was no significant statistical difference between the mean values of IOL powers using post-op K values and refration derived K values (p〉0.05). However, the mean value of IOL powers by refraction corrected method was statistically higher than other two values(p〈0.05). In patients with excimer laser PRK treatment for mild to moderate myopia, IOL power using refraction corrected method was statistically higher than IOL power using post-operative K values and refraction derived K values.

      • 기술수준에 따른 태권도 돌려차기 기술의 협응과 제어형태 비교

        The early studies of kicking skills in Taekwondo were simple two dimensional kinematic skills. But the later studies focused on three dimensional kinetic skills. These studies have acquired a lot of data concerned with kicking skills. These studies tended to investigate patterns of movement with comparison of between-skill or in-skill. The studies of movement patterns could systematically explain in motor controls which was focused on a mechanism of a skilled motor behavior. This study analyzed a pattern of Doelyochagi movement by 3D cinematograph and approached the movement as function of skill level in the view of motor control. The researcher selected six novices and six experts, and analyzed the change of coordination and control patterns with kinematic data. While the coordination variables were qualitatively analyzed by angle to angle graphs, control variables were qualitatively analyzed by angles. And the control variables were divided into the spatial and temporal factors which were consisted of the positive and negative maximal values, and timing the positive and negative maximal values. The researcher used t-test in order to find significant differences between two groups among the control variables. As the results of analyzing the coordination variables, the angle to angle graphs of expert group showed clearly to be froze between two joints in the flexion/extension and abduction/adduction, and showed to be released in the internal/external rotation during the third phase. Angles as control variables revealed significant differences in the flexion/extension while there no differences in the other two planes in the hip joint. But all of planes on the knee joint showed significant differences between two groups. As indicated by analyses of angles, the segments of experts tended to be frozen in the flexion/extension and abduction/adduction, and to be released in the internal/external rotation during the third phase.

        급성 외상성 기관 및 기관지손상의 치험 1 예

        Recently, increased traffic accident has resulted in a corresponding increase in incidences of blunt trauma. Tracheal and main bronchial injuries after blunt chest trauma can be life-threatening, and hence early diagnosis and early management of patients with such injuries are essential. A 3-year-old boy was transferred to the Department of Emergency Medicine after a motor vehicle accident in which he sustained multiple blunt injuries consisting of tracheal rupture, left main bronchial rupture, liver laceration, vitreous hemorrhage, and fracture of the iliac wing. The tracheal rupture was managed nonoperatively with intensive respiratory care, while the left main bronchial rupture was managed surgically by bronchoplasty. Postoperative course was uneventful and the patient was discharged without respiratory problems.

        간질발작을 주 증상으로 하는 회백질 이소증을 동반한 Schizencephaly 1례

        We experienced a case of schizencephaly with heterotopic gray matter that was only manifested a seizure attack. The clinical manifestation of this patient was only seizure without mental retardation, which was controlled by anticonvulsants. The term schizencephaly was introduced by Yakovlev and Wadsworth in 1946 to describe bilatral, nearly symmetrical and full-thickness clefts, which were characterized by an infolding of cortical gray matter along the clefts. The most widely accepted theory for the pathogenesis of this anomaly is the failure of formation of a segment of the germinal matrix or segmental failure of neuronal migration. Heterotopic gray matter is frequently found within and near the cleft. Patients who have these condition present clinically with seizures and developmental delay, and abnormal motor skills are noted in the more severly affected cases. Recognition is important for planning proper treatment and for genetic counseling.
