Gender Difference in Maximal Oxygen Consumption:A Meta-Analysis of Studies

본 연구는 남·녀간의 최대산소섭취량에 대한 연구된 논문들을 수집하여, 이들의 결과를 수량적으로 통합 분석하는데 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구를 위해 선택된 논문들은 각각 연구방법과 피검자의 연량이 유사한 상태에서 이루어진 것 들이다. 이러한 방법을 통해 취합된 연구결과들은 메타 분석법으로 통계처리 되었다. 총 7개의 최대산소섭취량에 관한 논문들이 수집되었고, 연구 피검자의 수는 남자 109명, 여자 97명 등 합계 206명이었다 남·녀 간의 평균연령은 남자의 경우 23.5세였으며, 여자 21.8세였다. 본 연구에 사용된 논문들은 다음 사항을 기준으로 하여 선택되어 졌다. 첫째, 논문이 남·녀 피검사를 대상으로 연구된 것 들이다. 둘째, 피검사의 연령은 사춘기 이후의 계층이었다. 셋째, 최대산소섭취량을 얻기 위하여 트레드밀이나 자전거에 르고메타를 이용하였다. 넷째, 최대산소섭취량을 ㎖/㎏/min of body weight로 나타내었다. 메타분석법에 의한 결과에 따르면 남자가 여자보다 약 26% 최대산소섭취량이 큰 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 성별 최대산소섭취량이 차이는 신체의 크기나 체지방율, 헤모글로빈의 농도, 혹은 다른 요인에 의한 것으로 사료된다.
家兎에 있어서 肝吸蟲의 ^(51)Cr 標識赤血球 攝取에 관한 實驗的 硏究

Experimental study was carried out to observe the blood loss due to the ingestion of host blood by Colonorchis sinensis in the rabbits by using chromium radioisotope ^(51)Cr. On the other hand, in order to confirm the blood intake activity by the worms, the radioactivity was measured on blood, bile juice and flukes removed from the bile ducts of the rabbits experimentally infected with C. sinensis. The following results were obtained: 1. By using ^(51)Cr labelled red cells, the total blood, red cell and plasme volumes were compared in non-infected control rabbits and light or heavy infection groups of rabbits. In the result, the above volumes of the heavy infection group were considerablly lower than those of light infection and non-infected groups of rabbits. 2. After the injection of ^(51)Cr labelled red cells to the non-infected and Clonorchis infected rabbits, the radioactivity was measured on blood and bile juice and compared the activity of bile/blood ratio in two groups of rabbits. The activity of this ratio in the infected group was shown higher than that of non-infected control rabbits. This result suggest that some ^(51)Cr labelled red cells were leaked by C. sinensis from the bile ducts in the infected rabbits. 3. The radioactivity of the flukes removed from the bile ducts of rabbits injected with ^(51)Cr labelled red cells was much higher than that of bile juice. This suggest that ^(51)Cr labelled red cells were contained in the lumen of intestinal ceca of C. sinensis. 4. Therefore it tis evident that C. sinensis ingests blood in the bile ducts of the host and utilizes it as a nutrient. With this result, it might be thought that the anemia will be one of the results of the heavy infection of C.sinensis.
Development of a Master Station for the Remote Control of Rescue Robots

As the robot are not intelligent enough to cope with unexpected events, they can not accomplish their mission autonomously without human operation. To overcome this kind of limitation, teleoperation has been studied for a long time. A master-slave is one of the teleoperation systems considered. It consists of a master robot operated by a human, a slave robot working in a real field, and communication link connecting the two robots. To control the slave robot remotely, the master robot has to obtain the information of the position/force of the slave robot as well as the image and distance measured by an ultrasonic or laser sensor. Recently, tactile information is used to control the robot remotely. This paper describes the establishment of a master-slave control system based on a haptic interface for the emergency response of a nuclear power plant.
LAROB: Laser-Guided Underwater Mobile Robot for Reactor Vessel Inspection

<P>In a nuclear power plant, there are several cylindrical vessels such as a reactor vessel and pressurizer. The vessels are usually constructed by welding large rolled plates or nozzle pipes together. To ensure the integrity of the vessel, their welds should be periodically inspected using sensors such as ultrasonic transducers or visual cameras. To inspect these welds effectively, we developed an underwater mobile robot, which is guided by a laser pointer. The robotic system was devised to reduce the inspection time and schedule during mandatory code inspections compared to a conventional inspection machine with a large structure. The system mainly consists of an underwater mobile robot, a laser positioning unit, and a main control station. The underwater mobile robot is guided by a laser positioning unit with a precise resolution of 0.05°. The mobile robot moves on the reactor vessel wall with four magnetic wheels. This paper presents the design and implementation of the underwater mobile robot. The laser guidance control of the mobile robot is also described along with the experimental results. The system was integrated with the main control station, and tested in the reactor vessel of a Korean nuclear power plant. After many improvements in its design and engineering, the system is expected to dramatically reduce the critical path of the reactor vessel inspection, if the system is used practically.</P>

There have been few case reports on giant sinus of Valsalva aneurysm (SVA). We report a case of a giant unruptured right coronary SVA that was confused with a pericardial cyst by transthoracic echocardiography.
