Comparative study on photocatalytic performances of crystalline a- and b-Bi2O3 nanoparticles under visible light

        Mohammed Jalalah,Adel A. Ismail,M. Faisal,Houcine Bouzid,Jea-Gun Park,S.A. Al-Sayari 한국공업화학회 2015 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.30 No.-

a- and b-Bi2O3 nanoparticles were synthesized in the presence of either urea or polyethylene glycol. TheXRD, TEM, and Raman analysis indicated that a-(monoclinic) Bi2O3 nanoparticles were obtained usingeither sol–gel or hydrothermal method in the presence of urea; however b-(tetragonal) phase of Bi2O3was formed using hydrothermal method in the presence of polyethylene glycol. The b-Bi2O3nanoparticles exhibited higher photocatalytic activity than a-Bi2O3. MB was completely photodegradedafter 6 h of visible light illumination using b-Bi2O3 photocatalyst whereas only 30% was photodegradedusing a-Bi2O3. The photodegradation rate of b-Bi2O3 was 5.7 times greater than that a-Bi2O3nanoparticles.

NEW CCD OBSERVATIONS AND THE FIRST PHOTOMETRIC STUDY OF THE CONTACT BINARY AP UMI

        N. S. AWADALLA,M. A. HANNA,M. N. Ismail,I. A. Hassan,M. A. Elkhamisy 한국천문학회 2016 Journal of The Korean Astronomical Society Vol.49 No.3

We obtain the first complete CCD light curves (LCs) of the contact binary AP UMi in the VRI bands and analyzed them by means of the PHOEBE code. A spotted model is applied to treat the asymmetry in the LCs. The LC morphology clearly shows the O'Connell effect and the solution shows an influence of star spots on both components. Such effect of star spots is common between the RS CVn and W UMa chromospherically active stars. Based on the obtained solution of the LCs we investigate the evolutionary state of the components and conclude that the system is a pre-intermediate contact binary ($f=0.29$) with mass ratio $q=0.38$, and it is an A-type W UMa system where the less massive secondary component is cooler than the more massive primary one.} We obtain the first complete CCD light curves (LCs) of the contact binary AP UMi in the VRI bands and analyzed them by means of the PHOEBE code. Low Leakage Current by Solution Processed PTAA‑ZnO Transparent Hybrid Hetero‑Junction Device

        Bablu K. Ghosh,Abdul I. A. Rani,Khairul A. Mohamad,Ismail Saad 대한금속·재료학회 2020 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.16 No.5

In this work solution processed novel poly-triarylamine (PTAA) organic p-type active layer on inorganic n-ZnO devicetransparency and electrical properties are investigated under illumination. Low cost organic–inorganic transparent hybridhetero-junction (HHJ) is a promising candidate for next-generation photovoltaic applications. Greater band gap organicmaterial window layer while inorganic material’s higher thermal stability as HHJ is suitable for detection and photovoltaicapplications. However, hetero-interface defects associated leakage current is the key issue of undermining large-area deviceelectrical performance. Hetero-interface defect associated carriers optical absorption limits transparency whereas leakagecurrent density is reliant on physical property and band barrier effect. It is demanded to investigate hetero-device physicalstuff and band barrier effect on electrical properties. Novel PTAA is deposited on RF-sputtered inorganic n-ZnO/ITO/glasssubstrate by spin-coating method. 100 and 60 nm PTAA thin films are deposited with 1000 and 2000 revolution per minute(rpm) growth sequence, respectively. PTAA as a transparent p-emitter is shown to absorb incident light beyond visible band, thereby it has promoted excitonic effect. Device I–V characterization carried out at different annealing temperatures andapplied voltage. Suitable annealing condition leakage current is shown to reduce nearly 10−4 A/cm2 and at higher appliedfield the greater rectifying I(+)/I(−) ratio is realized. Grain size is shown to increase with annealing effect however; leakagecurrent is remained almost independent of grain size.

Cancerous Inhibitor of Protein Phosphatase 2A as a Molecular Marker for Aggressiveness and Survival in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma

        Rajab Alzahrani,Amani A. Alrehaili,Amal F. Gharib,Farah Anjum,Khadiga A. Ismail,Wael H. Elsawy 대한암예방학회 2020 Journal of cancer prevention Vol.25 No.1

Cancerous inhibitor of protein phosphatase 2A (CIP2A) has been identified as one of the most commonly altered proteins in human cancers. It blocks the tumor-suppressive action of protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) complex and enhances malignancy. Thirty-five patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity underwent surgical resection of the tumor. CIP2A was assessed by quantitative real-time PCR in the resected tumor tissues and in their adjacent normal tissues. CIP2A was found to be overexpressed in all oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) specimens in comparison to their surrounding normal tissue. CIP2A overexpression was statistically correlated with poor prognostic feature of the tumor. Thus, a high expression level of CIP2A was associated with shorter survival. In conclusion, CIP2A is upregulated in OSCC, and its overexpression is correlated with aggressiveness of the tumor and poor outcome and survival. It may serve as a prognostic marker of OSCC. Key Words Cancerous inhibitor of protein phosphatase 2A, Oral squamous cell carcinoma

      • Impact of viscoelastic foundation on bending behavior of FG plate subjected to hygro-thermo-mechanical loads

        Ismail M. Mudhaffar,Abdelbaki Chikh,Abdelouahed Tounsi,Mohammed A. Al-Osta,Mesfer M. Al-Zahrani,Salah U. Al-Dulaijan 국제구조공학회 2023 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.86 No.2

This work applies a four-known quasi-3D shear deformation theory to investigate the bending behavior of a functionally graded plate resting on a viscoelastic foundation and subjected to hygro-thermo-mechanical loading. The theory utilizes a hyperbolic shape function to predict the transverse shear stress, and the transverse stretching effect of the plate is considered. The principle of virtual displacement is applied to obtain the governing differential equations, and the Navier method, which comprises an exponential term, is used to obtain the solution. Novel to the current study, the impact of the viscoelastic foundation model, which includes a time-dependent viscosity parameter in addition to Winkler’s and Pasternak parameters, is carefully investigated. Numerical examples are presented to validate the theory. A parametric study is conducted to study the effect of the damping coefficient, the linear and nonlinear loadings, the power-law index, and the plate width-tothickness ratio on the plate bending response. The results show that the presence of the viscoelastic foundation causes an 18% decrease in the plate deflection and about a 10% increase in transverse shear stresses under both linear and nonlinear loading conditions. Additionally, nonlinear loading causes a one-and-a-half times increase in horizontal stresses and a nearly two-times increase in normal transverse stresses compared to linear loading. Based on the article’s findings, it can be concluded that the viscosity effect plays a significant role in the bending response of plates in hygrothermal environments. Hence it shall be considered in the design.

      • Modeling and validation of a parabolic solar collector with a heat pipe absorber

        Ismail, Kamal A.R.,Zanardi, Mauricio A.,Lino, Fatima A.M. Techno-Press 2016 Advances in energy research Vol.4 No.4

Cylindrical parabolic solar concentrators of small concentration ratio are attractive options for working temperatures around $120^{\circ}C$. The heat gained can be utilized in many applications such as air conditioning, space heating, heating water and many others. These collectors can be easily manufactured and do not need to track the sun continuously. Using a heat pipe as a solar absorber makes the system more compact and easy to install. This study is devoted to modeling a system of cylindrical parabolic solar concentrators of small concentration ratio (around 5) fitted with a heat pipe absorber with a porous wick. The heat pipe is surrounded by evacuated glass tube to reduce thermal losses from the heat pipe. The liquid and vapor flow equations, energy equation, the internal and external boundary conditions were taken into consideration. The system of equations was solved and the numerical results were validated against available experimental and numerical results. The validated heat pipe model was inserted in an evacuated transparent glass tube as the absorber of the cylindrical parabolic collector. A calculation procedure was developed for the system, a computer program was developed and tested and numerical simulations were realized for the whole system. An experimental solar collector of small concentration, fitted with evacuated tube heat pipe absorber was constructed and instrumented. Experiments were realized with the concentrator axis along the E-W direction. Results of the instantaneous efficiency and heat gain were compared with numerical simulations realized under the same conditions and reasonably good agreement was found.

Molecular Cloning, Protein Expression, and Regulatory Mechanisms of the Chitinase Gene from Spodoptera littoralis Nucleopolyhedrovirus

        ( Norhan Yasser ),( Reda Salem ),( Maha Alkhazindar ),( Ismail A. Abdelhamid ),( Said A. S. Ghozlan ),( Wael Elmenofy ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2021 한국미생물·생명공학회지 Vol.49 No.3

The cotton leafworm, Spodoptera littoralis, is a major pest in Egypt and many countries worldwide, and causes heavy economic losses. As a result, management measures to control the spread of the worm are required. S. littoralis nucleopolyhedrovirus (SpliNPV) is one of the most promising bioagents for the efficient control of insect pests. In this study, a chitinase gene (chitA) of a 1.8 kb DNA fragment was cloned and fully characterized from SpliNPV-EG1, an Egyptian isolate. A sequence of 601 amino acids was deduced when the gene was completely sequenced with a predicted molecular mass of 67 kDa for the preprotein. Transcriptional analyses using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) revealed that chitA transcripts were detected first at 12 h post infection (hpi) and remained detectable until 168 hpi, suggesting their transcriptional regulation from a putative late promoter motif. In addition, quantitative analysis using quantitative RT-PCR showed a steady increase of 7.86-fold at 12 hpi in chitA transcription levels, which increased up to 71.4-fold at 120 hpi. An approximately 50 kDa protein fragment with chitinolytic activity was purified from ChitA-induced bacterial culture and detected by western blotting with an antirecombinant SpliNPV chitinase antibody. Moreover, purification of the expressed ChitA recombinant protein showed in vitro growth inhibition of two different fungi species, Fusarium solani and F. oxysporum, confirming that the enzyme assembly and activity was correct. The results supported the potential role and application of the SpliNPV-ChitA protein as a synergistic agent in agricultural fungal and pest control programs.
