Major infectious diseases affecting the Afghan immigrant population of Iran: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Behzad Pourhossein,Amin Doosti Irani1,Ehsan Mostafavi 한국역학회 2015 Epidemiology and Health Vol.37 No.-

OBJECTIVES: As Afghans make up the largest group of foreign nationals in Iran, the aim of this study was to assess the proportion of Afghan immigrants among those afflicted by the most prevalent infectious diseases in Iran. METHODS: National and international online scientific databases were searched through November 2013. The reference lists of included studies were also searched. All descriptive studies concerning the most common infectious diseases in Iran, including tuberculosis, multiple-drug-resistant tuberculosis, malaria, cholera, Crime-an-Congo hemorrhagic fever, leishmaniasis, and hepatitis B were retrieved. The nationality of patients was not considered. The selection of studies and data extraction was performed separately by two authors. Results were reported using a random effect model with a 95% confidence interval (CI). RESULTS: The overall proportion of Afghan immigrants with the aforementioned infectious diseases was 29% (95% CI, 21 to 37). According to a stratified analysis, the proportion of Afghan immigrants afflicted with tuber-culosis was (29%), multiple-drug-resistant tuberculosis (56%), malaria (40%), cholera (8%), Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (25%), leishmaniasis (7%), and hepatitis B (14%). CONCLUSIONS: It is highly recommended to monitor the health status of the Afghan immigrants when en-tering Iran, to reduce the spread of communicable diseases, which are viewed as serious in international health regulations.

      • Energy Modeling of a Supertall Building Using Simulated 600 m Weather File Data

Irani, Ali,Leung, Luke,Sedino, Marzia Council on Tall Building and Urban Habitat Korea 2019 International journal of high-rise buildings Vol.8 No.2

Assessing the energy performance of supertall buildings often does not consider variations in energy consumption due to the change of environmental conditions such as temperature, pressure, and wind speed associated with differing elevations. Some modelers account for these changing conditions by using a conventional temperature lapse rate, but not many studies confirm to the appropriateness of applying it to tall buildings. This paper presents and discusses simulated annual energy consumption results from a 600 m tall skyscraper floor plate located in Dubai, UAE, assessed using ground level weather data, a conventional temperature lapse rate of $6.5^{\circ}C/km$, and more accurate simulated 600 m weather data. A typical office floorplate, with ASHRAE 90.1-2010 standards and systems applied, was evaluated using the EnergyPlus engine through the OpenStudio graphical user interface. The results presented in this paper indicate that by using ground level weather data, energy consumption at the top of the building can be overestimated by upwards of 4%. Furthermore, by only using a lapse rate, heating energy is overestimated by up to 96% due to local weather phenomenon such as temperature inversion, which can only be conveyed using simulated weather data. In addition, sizing and energy consumption of fans, which are dependent both on wind and atmospheric pressure, are not accurately captured using a temperature lapse rate. These results show that that it is important, with the ever increasing construction of supertall buildings, to be able to account for variations in climatic conditions along the height of the building. Adequately modeling these conditions using simulated weather data will help designers and engineers correctly size mechanical systems, potentially decreasing overall building energy consumption, and ensuring that these systems are able to provide the necessary indoor conditions to maintain occupant comfort levels.

Early Selection of Double Flowers Based on Cotyledon Shape in Cut Stock (Matthiola incana L.) Flowers

Irani, Sepideh Famil,Arab, Mostafa Korean Society of Horticultural Science 2017 원예과학기술지 Vol.35 No.2

Selection of double-flowered plants at the seedling stage is one of the main purposes of stock breeding programs. Eight stock cultivars of Matthiola incana L. named 'Nobel', 'Cinderella', 'Pacific', 'Avalanche', 'Midblue', 'Lavender', 'Goddess' and 'Esfahan', with different percentage of double-flowered plants were used for examining the relationship with three morphological types of cotyledons. The results of a chi-square test indicated that in heart-shaped (HC) and cup-shaped cotyledon (CC) populations, the number of plants with double flowers was much more than that of single flowers and CC seedlings rarely produced single flowers. Therefore, increasing the number of CC seedlings can improve the percentage of double flowers. The highest and lowest numbers of CC seedling were observed in high double and single flower cultivars, respectively. Single flower cultivars showed the maximum count of dumbbell-shaped cotyledons. Chromosome pairing of these cultivars was evaluated using the squash technique. Aneuploid cells were found in 'Nobel' and 'Goddess' cultivars, which showed the highest percentage of CC seedling. Based on morphological measurements, the highest value of inflorescence size was observed in the seedlings with cup-shaped cotyledons.

FINITENESS PROPERTIES OF EXTENSION FUNCTORS OF COFINITE MODULES

Irani, Yavar,Bahmanpour, Kamal Korean Mathematical Society 2013 대한수학회보 Vol.50 No.2

Let R be a commutative Noetherian ring, I an ideal of R and T be a non-zero I-cofinite R-module with dim(T) ${\leq}$ 1. In this paper, for any finitely generated R-module N with support in V(I), we show that the R-modules $Ext^i_R$(T,N) are finitely generated for all integers $i{\geq}0$. This immediately implies that if I has dimension one (i.e., dim R/I = 1), then $Ext^i_R$($H^j_I$(M), N) is finitely generated for all integers $i$, $j{\geq}0$, and all finitely generated R-modules M and N, with Supp(N) ${\subseteq}$ V(I).

Determination of JMAK dynamic recrystallization parameters through FEM optimization techniques

Irani, Missam,Joun, Mansoo Elsevier 2018 Computational materials science Vol.142 No.-

Abstract

A practical method for determining dynamic recrystallization (DRX) parameters, consisting of finite-element analysis, optimization techniques, and experimental studies, is presented. The method iteratively minimizes the error between target values and the corresponding finite-element solutions using a general-purpose optimization tool. An isothermal hot compression test of AA6060 aluminum alloy was used to investigate the validity of the method. Three main DRX parameters in the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami-Kolmogorov model were obtained using the method, and good agreement was observed between the optimized parameters and reference values from the literature. The effects of mesh size and the number of sample points on the accuracy of the responses were also studied to show the numerical characteristics of the method, revealing that the greater the number of elements and sample points, the more accurate and reliable the results. Parameters acquired using fewer elements also provided acceptable optimized parameters for predicting DRX grain size.

Highlights

A new method for determining DRX parameters in JMAK equation is described.

The method is a combination of FEM, practical experiments, and optimization techniques.

By increasing the number of elements, the obtained parameters are more reliable.

The method is economical because it can avoid complex and costly compression tests.

Graphical abstract

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

      • Effect of sweep angle on bifurcation analysis of a wing containing cubic nonlinearity

        Irani, Saied,Amoozgar, Mohammadreza,Sarrafzadeh, Hamid Techno-Press 2016 Advances in aircraft and spacecraft science Vol.3 No.4

Limit cycle oscillations (LCO) as well as nonlinear aeroelastic analysis of a swept aircraft wing with cubic restoring moments in the pitch degree of freedom is investigated. The unsteady aerodynamic loading applied on the wing is modeled by using the strip theory. The harmonic balance method is used to calculate the LCO frequency and amplitude for the swept wing. Finally the super and subcritical Hopf bifurcation diagrams are plotted. It is concluded that the type of bifurcation and turning point location is sensitive to the system parameters such as wing geometry and sweep angle.

COMINIMAXNESS WITH RESPECT TO IDEALS OF DIMENSION ONE

Irani, Yavar Korean Mathematical Society 2017 대한수학회보 Vol.54 No.1

Let R denote a commutative Noetherian (not necessarily local) ring and let I be an ideal of R of dimension one. The main purpose of this note is to show that the category ${\mathfrak{M}}(R,\;I)_{com}$ of I-cominimax R-modules forms an Abelian subcategory of the category of all R-modules. This assertion is a generalization of the main result of Melkersson in [15]. As an immediate consequence of this result we get some conditions for cominimaxness of local cohomology modules for ideals of dimension one. Finally, it is shown that the category ${\mathcal{C}}^1_B(R)$ of all R-modules of dimension at most one with finite Bass numbers forms an Abelian subcategory of the category of all R-modules.

In this paper, by using the sequence of adjointable operators from C*-algebra 𝓐 into Hilbert 𝓐-module E, the woven frames of multipliers in Hilbert C*-modules are introduced. Meanwhile, we study the effect of operators on these frames and, also we construct the new woven frame of multipliers in Hilbert 𝓐-module 𝓐. Finally, compositions of woven frames of multipliers in Hilbert C*-modules are studied.

      • Finite element simulation of pure shear extrusion process with back pressure

        M. Irani(이라니 미쌈),M. S. Joun(전만수) 한국소성가공학회 2015 한국소성가공학회 학술대회 논문집 Vol.2015 No.10

In this study, the effect of back pressure on filling fraction of exit channel in pure shear extrusion (PSE) process is investigated by FEM. For this purpose, the back pressure is applied to a plunger located at the beginning of exit channel and its influences on the filling fraction of die are studied. To validate the accuracy of the model, the predicted results of the PSE simulation without back pressure are compared with some experimental results reported in previous studies and a good agreement found between two sets of results. The results show that imposing back pressure of 200 MPa leads to an acceptable filling fraction of exit channel to produce a sound severe plastic deformed billet.
