The influence of isothermal holding (IH) near the pearlite start temperature (Ps≈610 °C) and above the martensite starttemperature (Ms≈245 °C) were studied in two hot-rolled (FRT≈1000 °C) high carbon steels, without (HC0) and with Nbmicroalloying (HC1). Optical microscopy (OM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and high-resolutiontransmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) were utilised for observing the microstructural constituents whereas, nanoindentationand microindentation were performed to estimate the average hardness and elastic modulus values of various phaseconstituents. It has been observed that hot deformation in the austenite region results in the formation of a dual phase-typemicrostructure consisting of fine pearlite lamella and ferrite grains with some amount of degenerated pearlite. IH at 570 °Cleads to a higher volume percentage of ferrite and coarsening of pearlite whereas, IH at 300 °C results in mixed phases comprisingbainite, a very low amount of martensite/retained austenite (M/RA), pearlite and some amount of ferrite. Hot rolledmicroalloyed steel when isothermally held near the Psresults in a significant enhancement of ductility than hot rolled andair-cooled condition while sacrificing tensile strength marginally, which may be attributed to a higher percentage of ferriteand refinement of pearlite due to Nb addition. The estimated yield strength values correlate well with those experimentalyield strength values, but a little discrepancy has been noticed for the ultimate tensile strength values. Possible interpretationsare suggested in this paper.

Synthesis of high viscosity, ecofriendly, and low melting point poly(ionic liquid)s (LMP-PIL) with network structure has been introduced by the reaction of 1,10,10 0 (1,3,5 triazine 2,4,6 triyl) tris (3 methyl 1H imidazol 3 ium) iodide ionic liquid (TAIm[I] IL) monomer with disodium salts of various open-chain carboxylic acids as well as sulfonic acids via a polycondensation on counter ions (PC-CI). Change in alkyl group length in carboxylate, as well as sulfonate, provide a broad spectrum of properties in terms of viscosity, density, and solubility for the resulting PILs. The physical properties of the PILs including, viscosity, melting point, boiling point, density,M n, and polydispersity (Ð), were determined in this study. Also, thermal behavior of the PILs were studied in comparison with the corresponding monomers. The ecofriendly PILs served as an efficient solvent and ligand for the Cu-catalyzed Heck and Sonogashira CAC coupling reactions. High to excellent yields were obtained for various coupling products under mild conditions at melting points of the PILs. Also, the coupling products could be obtained with direct scalability. The prepared PILs could be recycled several times from the homogenous reaction mixture with preservation of the intrinsic properties. Also, a detailed study was conducted on the mechanism of the coupling reactions.

The notion of approximate derivative was introduced by Denjoy in 1916 [3]. Khintchine [5] proved that Rolle's theorem holds for approximate derivatives and Tolstoff [8] proved that every approximate derivative is of Baire class 1 and has Darboux property. Goffman and Neugebauer [4] proved the above results of Tolstoff [8] in a different and simplified method. Also they [4] proved indirectly (via Darboux property) that approximate derivatives possesss mean value property.

Scavenging activity of Curcuma caesia rhizome against reactive oxygen and nitrogen species

Curcuma caesia Roxb. (Zingiberaceae), known as black turmeric in English, is a perennial herb found throughout the Himalayan region, North-East and Central India. The plant has been traditionally used in India for several medicinal purposes. Present study was carried out to evaluate the methanol extract of C. caesia (MECC) rhizome for some in vitro antioxidant studies as because we know that many diseases are associated with reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS). Effect of MECC on ROS and RNS were evaluated in different in vitro methods like 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazil radical, hydroxyl radicals, superoxide anions, nitric oxide, hydrogen peroxide,peroxynitrite and hypochlorous acid. Lipid peroxidation,total phenolic content was also measured by standard assay method. The extract showed significant antioxidant activities in a dose dependent manner. The IC_(50) values for scavenging of free radicals were 94.03±0.67 μg/ml, 155.59±3.03 μg/ml,68.10±1.24 μg/ml, 21.07±1.78 μg/ml, 260.56±12.65 μg/ml and 33.33±0.52 μg/ml for DPPH, nitric oxide, superoxide,hydroxyl, peroxynitrite and hypochlorous acid respectively. Reductive ability of the extract was also tested where dose dependent reducing capability was observed. The rhizome extract contains 677.7 μg of phenolic compound in 10 mg of the extract which is accounted for its free radical as well as antioxidant activity. From the above study it is concluded that the methanol extract of C. caesia rhizome is a potential source of natural antioxidant.
