While the lateral confinement provided by an FRP jacket to a concrete column is passive in nature, confinement is activated when the concrete expands due to additional compression stresses or significant shear deformations. This characteristic of FRP jacketing theoretically leads to similar initial stiffness properties of FRP retrofitted buildings as the buildings without retrofit. In the current study, to validate this theoretical assumption, the initial stiffness characteristics, and thus, the potential seismic demands were investigated through forced vibration tests on two identical full-scale substandard reinforced concrete buildings with or without FRP retrofit. Power spectral density functions obtained using the acceleration response data captured through forced vibration tests were used to estimate the modal characteristics of these buildings. The test results clearly showed that the natural frequencies and the mode shapes of the buildings are quite similar. Since the seismic demand is controlled by the fundamental vibration modes, it is confirmed using vibration-based full-scale tests that the seismic demands of RC buildings remain unchanged after CFRP jacketing of columns. Furthermore, the damping characteristics were also found similar for both structures.

Reactive extraction can be used for the recovery of carboxylic acids from fermentation broth. Through the formation of complex with extractants at the two-phase interface, the carboxylic acids are partitioned into organic solvents. But, the recovery of carboxylic acids is interrupted by the conditions of fermentation broth. In this work, kinetic studies for the extraction of succinic acid from aqueous solution with tridodecylamine diluted in 2-octanone and 1-octanol have been carried out. Equilibrium and kinetic studies for the extraction of succinic acid from aqueous solution with tridodecylamine diluted in two functional groups (alcohol and ketone) such as 2-octanone and 1-octanol are reported. All measurements have been carried out at 298.15 K. The results of the liquid–liquid equilibrium measurements have been correlated by a linear solvation energy relationship – LSER model which takes into account physical interactions.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of skin lesions, which is a health effect of chronic arsenic (As) exposure, and determine the hair/blood arsenic concentrations of people living in Kutahya villages who are using and drinking tap water with a high concentration of arsenic. Materials and Methods: A total of 303 people were included in the present cross-sectional study. A prepared questionnaire form was used to collect the participants' information and environmental history. Skin examination was performed on all participants. Hair, blood and water samples were analyzed using atomic absorption spectroscopy. The cumulative arsenic index (CAI) was calculated for all participants. Results: Villages were divided into two groups according to the arsenic level (<$20{\mu}g/L$, Group I; >$20{\mu}g/L$, Group II) in their water. The prevalence of skin lesions, hair and blood arsenic level, and CAI were found to be higher in the Group II participants. There was a positive association between body arsenic levels and CAI in the participants of each group. Conclusions: The number of skin lesions and arsenic concentrations in body samples were found to increase with the water arsenic level and exposure time. We hope that sharing this study's results with local administrators will help accelerate the rehabilitation of water sources in Kutahya.
CORPORATE HOLDINGS IN DIGITAL CURRENCIES: MARKETING MOTIVATIONS AND INVESTMENT STRATEGIES
A. Can Inci,Jack Field 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2023 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2023 No.07
As cryptocurrencies continue to gain viability as an asset class, institutional investors and publicly traded firms are beginning to enter into positions in digital currencies. While generating profits may be the primary purpose, corporations also wish to advertise to their stakeholders that they are keeping up-to-date with latest technological developments, trends, and cutting-edge investment opportunities in enhancing the wealth of the shareholders. The marketing and financial signals with the involvement in blockchain platforms and digital currencies intend to demonstrate the efficiency of corporate operations, and the agility in the utilization of the retained funds. What firms may not be considering however, is the effect these assets may have on their risk profiles. This paper aims at measuring the effect of digital currencies on the risk and returns of publicly traded companies, deciphering the motives behind holding a cryptocurrency as an asset, and determining whether one reason for holding is more impactful than another. Four largest publicly traded holders as well as four of the most prominent digital currencies are explored. The findings from the study contribute to the literature in corporate risk reporting, in marketing and financial motivations of digital currency holdings, and in digital currency risks. The conclusions of the study also make a case for firm transparency through detailed reports of the risk effects of digital currency holdings.

Objective The etiology of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has not been entirely clarified yet. Structural and metabolicdifferences at the prefrontal striatal cerebellary system and the interaction of gene and environment are the main factors that thought toplay roles in the etiology. Genetic investigations are performed especially about the dopamine pathways and receptors. In this study; itwas aimed to investigate the association of the synaptobrevin-2 (VAMP-2) gene Ins/Del polymorphism and syntaxin 1A gene intron7 polymorphism, which take place in encoding presynaptic protein, with adult ADHD. Methods One hundred thirty-nine patients, having ADHD aging between 18 and 60 years and 106 healthy people as controls were includedinto the study. DNA samples were extracted from whole blood and genetic analysis were performed. ResultsaaA significant difference was determined between ADHD and VAMP-2 Ins/Del polymorphism and syntaxin 1A intron 7 polymorphismaccording to the control group. These polymorphisms were found not to be associated with subtypes of ADHD. Conclusion It is supposed that synaptic protein genes together with dopaminergic genes might have roles in the etiology of ADHD.

The purpose of this work is to assess the radical scavenging activity, acetylcholinesterase inhibition, and proline content of an aqueous extract from wild pistachio (Pistacia atlantica Desf.) leaves. The effect of aqueous extract on superoxide radical scavenging, hydroxyl radical scavenging, N,N-dimethyl-1,4-phenylendiammoniumdichloride (DMPD•+) radical scavenging, ABTS•+ radical scavenging, nitric oxide scavenging, and β-carotene bleaching activities was examined. This study found that the aqueous extract possesses considerable amounts of flavonoids (33.52±2.04 μg catechin equivalents/mg of extract). The effect of this extract in scavenging activity of hydroxyl radical and DMPD•+ was significantly better than that of ascorbic acid and butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA). The effect of the extract in superoxide and ABTS•+ was significantly similar than that of tested standard antioxidants. The proline content of the extract was found to be 0.54±0.01 μg proline/mg of extract. Aqueous extract of P. atlantica inhibited acetylcholinesterase activity effectively with IC50 value of 58.05±0.12 μg/mL.

This study was conducted to determine the effects of beak trimming, stocking density (D) and sex (S) on live weight (LW), carcass yield and its component, and plasma glucose (PG) and triglyceride levels in Large White turkeys. To accomplish this aims, totally 288 d old large white turkey chicks (144 in each sex) were used. Beaks of 77 male and female poults were trimmed when 8 d old with an electrical beak trimmer. The birds were fed by commercial turkey rasion. Experiment was designed as 2 × 2 × 2 factorial arrangement with 3 replications in each group. Beak trimming and stocking density did not affect live weight, carcass composition and its components. The higher LW and carcass weight observed in trimmed groups. As expected, male birds are heavier than female, and carcass percentage (CP) would be adverse. However, in this study, CP of male was higher in trimmed, in 0.25 m2/bird. (D) × sex (S) interaction had an effect on both CP and thigh weights (p<0.05). Significantly D × S was observed in LW, CP and PG. The weight of carcass and its some components were higher in male. S × D interaction had an effect on plasma glucose level (p<0.05). Triglyceride level was affected (p<0.05) by sex. Significant relationships were found between percentage of thighs (r=0.447, p<0.01) and percentage of breast (r=0.400, p<0.01). According to this study, it can be said that trimming is useful with density of 0.25 m2/bird in turkey fattening.

This study investigated the heavy metal adsorption of the carbon nanotubes (CNTs) oxidized different methods. Besides the conventional ultrasonication method, the UV-light used as an oxidation agent. The two oxidation methods compared with each other by Pb(II) adsorption. The characterizations of oxidized CNTs were analyzed by FTIR, XRD, DTG, SEM and total acidity capacity analysis. The adsorption capacities of carbon nanotubes were compared with using Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. Two different kinetic theories were applied to experimental data. These theories are pseudo-second order and intraparticle diffusion models. The adsorption results can be compared using non-linear Langmuir isotherm parameters. For single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), theoretical adsorption capacity value (Qm) of UV-light method is 511.99 mg/g and ultrasonication method is 342.36 mg/g. The UV-light increased the surface acidity of the carbon nanotubes more than ultrasonication. After the adsorption experiments, it is apparently seen that the UV-light oxidation method is a useful method for heavy metal adsorption.
