        19세기 서양인의 한국어 문자와 음운 현상에 대한 기술

        In the history of Korean linguistics, the nineteenth century showed the inception of the research method of the grammatical description. From the invention of Hunminjeongeum up to the eighteenth century (in which the backdrop for Silhak, realist school of confucianism, was formed), Korean linguistics was characterized by the research on Hunminjeongeum itself. The systematic description of the Korean language first began in the nineteenth century, particularly, by some Westerners. Given the situation, this research aims to provide an analysis and explication with regard to Korean graphemics and phonology, particularly, focusing on the theoretical description available in the Korean linguistic literature in the early and mid-nineteenth century. As most of the post-promulgation studies on the Korean language were concerned with Hunminjeongeum, this paper centers around the questions of (a) how the previous academic insight into Hunminjeongeum’s script and pronunciation systems was reflected and handed down in the academic works by the Westerners in the nineteenth century and (b) how the system of Hangeul and its respective phonetic values were interpreted by those Westerners from their perspective. In the respect of Korean graphemics, the main attention is paid to the sequential order of the consonant and vowel letters in Hangeul as well as to the phonetic values of the respective letters. The sequential arrangement of the letters refers to that of Se-Jin Choi in Hunmongjahoe (1527). One noteworthy finding is that some single identical letter was observed to have two different pronunciations, which was, then, a linguistically fruitful discovery confirming the existence of the allophone in Korean. On the other hand, what drew attention in terms of the pronunciation is that the phonological phenomenon of euphony was highlighted and specified. In the linguistic description, phonologically distinctive phenomena―such as voicing, consonant assimilation, palatalization, initial liquid avoidance, and the final consonant rule―were taken into account and well elaborated in order to increase the general understanding of the Korean pronunciation. For the nineteenth-century Westerners, it was possible to spot those particular phenomena in Korean owing to the fact that they, as speakers of European languages, had the background knowledge of historical comparative linguistics, the main methodological trend of those times. 19세기는 한국어 문법 연구의 태동기이다. 훈민정음 창제 이후 실학 학풍이 배경이 되었던 18세기까지는 훈민정음에 대한 연구가 주종을 이루었다. 한국어 전반에 대한 체계적인 기술은 19세기에 들어서 서양인에 의해 비로소 시작되었다. 본 연구는 19세기 초․중엽 한국어 연구서에 기술된 한국어 문자와 음운 현상에 대해 분석․해설하는 데 목적이 있다. 15세기 훈민정음 창제 이후 한국어에 대한 연구는 대부분이 훈민정음과 관련이 있다. 훈민정음과 발음에 대한 연구가 19세기 서양인의 연구서에 어떻게 반영되고 계승되었는가를 확인하는 것과 서양인의 관점으로 한국어 문자와 그 음가를 어떻게 해석하였는가를 고찰하는 것이 이 연구의 중심 내용이다. 문자와 관련된 것은 자모의 배열 순서와 음가에 대한 것이다. 문자 배열은 최세진의 배열 방법에 준하였다. 동일한 글자에 두 가지 발음이 존재하는 것을 밝혀내었다. 이는 한국어에 변이음이 존재한다는 사실을 확인한 언어학적 수확이다. 발음과 관련된 것은 활음조 현상을 관찰하여 세세하게 기술하였다는 것이다. 유성음화, 자음동화, 구개음화, 두음법칙, 말음규칙 등과 같은 음운 현상을 관찰․기술하여 한국어 발음을 쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 하였다. 19세기 서양인이 한국어에서 이러한 현상들을 발견할 수 있었던 것은 그들이 서양어 화자라는 것과 당시 역사비교언어학이라는 서양 언어학의 경향이 배경이 되었기 때문이다.

        Temporal trends and in-hospital outcomes of primary percutaneous coronary intervention in nonagenarians with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction

        Background/Aims: Data regarding the outcomes of primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) in nonagenarians are very limited. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the temporal trends and in-hospital outcomes of primary PCI in nonagenarian STEMI patients. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed data from the Korea Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry (KAMIR) from November 2005 to January 2008, and from the Korea Working Group on Myocardial Infarction (KorMI) from February 2008 to May 2010. Results: During this period, the proportion of nonagenarians among STEMI patients more than doubled (0.59% in KAMIR vs. 1.35% in KorMI), and the rate of use of primary PCI also increased (from 62.5% in KAMIR to 81.0% in KorMI). We identified 84 eligible study patients for which the overall in-hospital mortality rate was 21.4% (25.0% in KAMIR vs. 20.3% in KorMI, p = 0.919). Multivariate analysis identified two independent predictors of in-hospital mortality, namely a final Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) flow < 3 (odds ratio [OR], 13.7; 95% confidence interval [CI], 3.2 to 59.0; p < 0.001) and cardiogenic shock during hospitalization (OR, 6.7; 95% CI, 1.5 to 30.3; p = 0.013). Conclusions: The number of nonagenarian STEMI patients who have undergone primary PCI has increased. Although a final TIMI flow < 3 and cardiogenic shock are independent predictors of in-hospital mortality, primary PCI can be performed with a high success rate and an acceptable in-hospital mortality rate.

      • 고혈압성 안저변화와 생리적 제인자간의 상관관계에 관한 연구

        The author investigated the correlation among physiological factors that could affect the hyperten-sive retinopathy as a line in the chain of basic investigation to prevent and manage the hypertensive disorders. The study group composed of 130 people with arteriosclerotic or hypertensive retinopathy and 260 healthy people. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Grade I was the most common in hypertensive retinopathy as 65.4%, and the distribution by age and sex showed that grade I in 50-59 year old group was the most common in male and female as 20.0% and 15.4%, respectively. 2. Grade I was the most common in arteriosclerotic retinopathy as 66.1%, and the distribution by age and sex showed that grade I in 50-59 year old group was the most common in male and female as 35.0% and 40.0%, respectively. 3. In the realtionship between hypertensive retinopathy and blood pressure, Grade I was the most common n the grade of 150-159㎜Hg, systolic blood pressure and 100-109㎜Hg, diastolic blood pressure as 22.3% and 33.8%, respectively. 4. In the case group, the level of serum cholesterol(211.26±47.53㎜g/㎗), serum triglyceride (184.05±93.3㎜Hg/㎗), low density lipoprotein(125.22±48.98㎜Hg/㎗), atherogenic index 1(3.67±1.85), and atherogenic index 2(2.86±1.64), were higher than those in the control group, however, only the level of high density lipoprotein(51.88±11.95㎜Hg/㎗) was lower. 5. The significant correlation to the grade of hypertensive and arteriosclerotic retinopathy were found in systolic and diastolic blood pressure. 6. The odds ratio between the case group and control group in serum lipid showed the significant difference in more than 200㎎/㎗ of total serum cholestrol and more than 190㎎/㎗ of serum triglyceride as 3.59 and 2.48, respectively. 7. The odds ratio between the case group and control group in atherogenic and obesity index showed the significant difference in more than 3.0 of atherogenic index 1 and more than 30% of obesity index as 2.40 and 3.67, respectively.

        인간안보와 한국 외교

        Many countries have derived enormous economic benefits from the end of the Cold War. Yet, the income gap between the industrialized and developing worlds has continued to widen. This trend has been compounded in some countries by internal conflict and state failure. At the same time, new security threats have emerged, including an increase in transnational crime and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Armed conflict has taken on a different shape and is often rooted in religious or ethnic discord. Growing international recognition of human cost of conflict, in addition to other post-Cold War developments, has led the international community to reexamine the whole concept of security. This evolution in the perception of international security has resulted in a new concept of "human security." Human security recognizes that democratic development, human rights and fundamental freedoms, the rule of law, good governance, sustainable development and social equity are as important to global peace as are arms control and disarmament. Various issue areas in human security emerged as paramount as the economic crisis in Asia came to dominate Asia during the last years of the twentieth century. They include political and socio-economic insecurity; intra-state ethnic conflict and involuntary migration; drug-trafficking and transnational crime; environmental degradation; and the transfer of small arms and light weapons. Human security encompasses a wide array of complex issues that are interconnected with each other and thus demand knowledge and information for policy-makers to identify their state interests and recognize the latitude of actions deemed appropriate in specific issue-areas of human security. Thus, an international epistemic community needs to be formed with Korea's initiative to deal with newly emerging human security issues in the Asia-Pacific. If epistemic communities on human security help define the self-interests of a state, then, a coalition among the like-minded countries can be built. At this stage, government officials will try to make issue-based coalitions with other countries to establish allies in many fields of human security. Here, Korea can find some rooms for international cooperation depending on issues. Rapid information exchange could be used to strengthen such activities as addressing human rights abuses or international crime, areas where the rapid exchange of information across borders is essential. The strategy could also play a role in helping to establish free media and counter hate propaganda, and so bolster democracy and reduce likelihood of conflict in bolster democracy and reduce the troubled regions. Tackling the problem of food security is another area which could benefit from enhanced information networks as experts and information sources could be assessed quickly, facilitating the delivery of advice and knowledge. One of the stated aims of the first meeting of the ARF in 1994 was "the enhancement of political and security cooperation within the region as a means of ensuring a lasting peace, stability and prosperity for the region and its peoples." However, the financial crisis in Asia has proven that regional security arrangements are not well organised to handle a prolonged socio-economic shock. The imminent task the ARF faces is to prevent the socioeconomic effects of the financial crisis of Asia from developing into threats to human security. The ARF should identify the risks to security arising from economic, social and environmental problems and discuss their causes and potential consequences. Human security, most of all, is rooted upon protection of human rights, Human rights and regional security issues are inextricably linked. The security of nation states begins with the security of civil society of which they are composed. The security problems that beset the region-notably in Cambodia, North Korea, East Timor, and Myanmar-are the projected shadow of human rights violations. Conflicts cannot be resolved, confidence cannot be built and multilateral cooperation cannot be strengthened unless regional security issues are addressed at their root cause - violations of human rights. Thus, the violation of human rights needs to be prevented. The concepts of "human security" and "global governance" can raise perplexing questions. Whereas human security is concerned primarily with individual welfare conditions, global governance focuses on generalized rules of international regimes. To juxtapose these two concepts into a single thematic sweep may be considered too ambitious at best, or foolhardy at worst. But we are at a critical juncture in human history in which the forces of globalization can tip us toward either more human forms of governance or growing global gaps that will turn the world into islands of riches in oceans of structural poverty, resentment, and violence. Globalization of the world economy and society is increasingly calling for a broader consideration of security to include such humans rights as political, socio-economic, cultural, and environmental security. The opening of a new century has always served as a symbolic turning point in the history of human civilization. When cooperation is accumulated at the regional level, this will contribute to getting closer to global governance. The Asia-Pacific region is at a historical juncture between the roads to self-destruction and self-renewal. Even if the region has been hit by the financial crisis, it will have renewed opportunity of another take-off when it deals effectively with the root causes and effects of the financial crisis. This is the mission of the epistemic community on human security, which will determine the guiding principles of human security and promote regional cooperation through multilateral organizations in a future-oriented manner.

      • 실험적 부자 시신경병증에서 Methylprednisolone의 효능

        동물실험에서 aconite 또는 aconitine은 신경계통에 독성을 나타낸다고 이미 알려져 있다. 그러한 독성은 시유발전위와 병리조직에서 탈수초증으로 나타난다. 저자들은 실험적으로 aconite을 주입하여 탈수초신경증을 일으킨 후 고용량이 methylprednisolone(MP)투여가 효능이 있는지를 알아보고자 하였다. Aconite를 복강내 주입하고 곧 이어 가토의 이연정맥으로 MP를 주입한 군과 aconite만을 주입한 군으로 나누었고 이들을 서로 비교하였다. 그리고 이 두 군을 정상군과도 비교하였다. 시유발전위에서 aconite를 주입후 MP를 투여한 군에서 aconite만을 주입한 군에 비하여 onset latency와 peak latency 그리고 진폭 모두에서 2주째에 통계학적으로 의미있게 회복되었으나 (p<0.05) 정상군과 비교하여 의미있는 차이를 나타내지 아니하였다. 그러나 정상군과 비교하여 1개월과 2개월에서 onset latency은 의미있게 지연되었고 (p<0.05) peak latency와 진폭은 다소 회복되었으나 정상군의 평균값에는 미치지 못하였다. 병리조직에서 MP으로 치료한 군과 aconite만을 주입한 군 모두에서 수초의 탈수초변화가 관찰되었으나 MP으로 치료한 군은 상대적으로 탈수초변화가 현저하지 아니하였다. 본 연구에서 실험적으로 가토에 aconite를 전신에 투여하여 시신경병증을 일으킨 후 고용량의 MP를 즉시 투여한 경우에 시신경의 기능을 정상상태까지 회복시키는데는 한계가 있으나 부분적으로 시신경의 기능을 회복시키는데 도움이 될 것으로 생각된다(한안지 37:1730~1740, 1996). Studies in animals indicate that aconitine or aconite has toxic effects in the visual system of a rabbit model. Such a toxic effects causes myelo-optic neuropathy in the visually evoked cortical potential(VECP) and histopathologic studies. Whether the administration of intravenous high-does of methyprednisolone(MP) in the myelo-optic neuropathy caused by aconitine(1.5㎖/㎏, equivalent to 0.7㎎/㎏ of aconitine) is experimentally effective remains uncertain. The group treated with MP(daily 30㎎/㎏×2 for 3 days followed by 15㎎/㎏ for 3 days) in addition to aconite was compared with the aconite alone group and the normal control group. In the MP treated group, increased recovery of onset latency, peak latency, and amplitude in VECP in comparision with the aconite alone group was recorded at 2 weeks(p<0.05). The MP treated group in comparision with the normal control group showed a significant delay in onset latency at 1 month and 2 months(p<0.05). But, the amplitude in both the MP treated group and the aconite alone group increased at 2 months and did not show a significant difference in comparision with the normal group(p<0.05). In histopathologic study, pathologic findings of myelin sheath in the MP treated group were less severe than in the aconite alone group generally. The true benefit of high-does MP was at least clear within 2 weeks. The authors conclude that treatment with intravenous high-does MP immediate after aconite injection may have some beneficial effects in recovery of neurologic function although such a treatment do no have the definite recovery in aconite induced myelo-optic neuropathy(J Korean Ophthalmol Soc 37:1730~1740, 1996).

      • 고리원자력발전소 주변의 식생과 식물현존량 추정

        고리원자력발전소 주변의 식생에 대한 식물사회학적 조사를 실시하였으며, 순1차생산력과 식물현존량을 추정하였다. 또한 상관에 의한 현존식생도 및 녹지자연도를 작성하였다. 종조성표에 의한 식물군락은 소나무군락, 곰솔군락, 서어나무-굴참나무군락, 아까시나무군락으로 구분되었다. 소나무군락은 아교목층(평균식피율 35%)이 빈약하였으며, 서어나무-굴참나무군락은 비교적 안정된 계층구조를 이루고 있었다. 전체적으로 교목층에서 소나무, 곰솔, 아교목층에서 사방오리, 졸참나무, 저목층에서 졸참나무, 사스레피나무, 초본층에서 산거울, 주름조개풀 등의 피복지수가 높았다. 삼림토양의 pH는 4.30~4.85, 유기물함량은 6.04~9.40%의 범위였다. 현존식생도에 의한 분포비율은 곰솔군락(31.4%)이 가장 높았으며, 평균녹지자연도는 5.4였다. Montreal model에 의한 순1차생산력은 1555.2g/㎡/yr, 식물현존량은 단위면적당16,982,21ton/k㎡으로 추정되었다. The forest vegetation and estimation of phytomass and net primary production in the vicinity of Kori Atomic Power Plant was analyzed on the basis of the phytosociological data. Depending on physiognomy, actual vegetation map and the degree of green naturality(DGN) was also drawn in the of 1:50,000. According to Z-M method, the forest vegetation was classified into four communities, which include Pinus densiflora, Pinus thunbergii, Carpinus laxiflora-Quercus variabilis, and Robinia pseudo-acacia communities. The Pinus densiflora community was most poorly covered in tree-2 layer. The Carpinus laxiflora-Quercus variabilis community was relatively stable in the stratum structure. It was generally shown that Pinus densiflora and Pinus thunbergii in tree-1 layer, Alnus firma and Quercus serrata in tree-2 layer, Quercus serrata and Eurya japonica in shrub layer, and Carex humilis and Oplismenus undulatifolius in herb layer had high coverage index. The pHs and contents of organic matter of the forest soil collected in each sites was in the range of 4.30 to 4.85 and 6.04% to 9.40% in average in the communities. The Pinus thunbergii community showed the highest distribution rate(31.4%) in the actual vegetation map. The average DGN was approximately 5.4. Net primary production and phytomass per unit area obtained by Montreal model were estimated to be 1555.2g/㎡/yr and 16,982.21ton/k㎡, respectively.

        Nelumbinis Semen Reverses a Decrease in $5-HT_{1A}$Receptor Binding Induced by Chronic Mild Stress, a Depression-like Symptom

        Depression is associated with a dysfunctional serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine; 5-HT) system. More recently, several lines of evidence suggest that an important factor in the development of depression may be a deficit in the function and expression of $5-HT_{1A}$ receptors. The present study assessed if Nelumbinis Semen (N. s.) had an anti-depression effect through reversing a decrease in $5-HT_{1A}$receptor binding in rats with depression-like symptoms induced by chronic mild stress. Using a $5-HT_{1A}$ receptor binding assay, with a specific $5-HT_{1A}$receptor agonist, 8- OH-DPAT (8-hydroxy-2-(di-n-propylamino) tetralin), the mechanism of the anti-depression effect of N. s. on rats was investigated, and the effects compared with two well-known antidepressants, Hyperium Perforatum (St. Johns Wort) and fluoxetine (Prozac). Animals were divided into five groups: the normal (N) group without chronic mild stress (CMS), the control (C) group under CMS for 8 weeks, the Nelumbinis Semen (N. s.) treatment group under CMS for 8 weeks, the Hyperium Perforatum (H. p.) treatment group under CMS for 8 weeks and finally, the fluoxetine (F) treatment group under CMS for 8 weeks. Each treatment was administered to rats during the last 4 weeks of the 8-week CMS. A sucrose intake test was performed to test the anti-depression effect of N. s. The N. s. treatment significantly reversed the decreased sucrose intake under CMS (P<0.05 compared to control group under CMS). In the CA2 and CA3 regions of the hippocampus, both N. s. and H. p. reversed the CMS-induced decrease in $5-HT_{1A}$receptor binding. In the I to II regions of the frontal cortex, N. s. and H. p. also reversed the CMS-induced decrease in$5-HT_{1A}$receptor binding, and even showed a significant increase in $5-HT_{1A}$receptor binding compared to the F treatment group (N. s. vs. P, p<0.05, H. p. vs. P, p<0.05). However, in the hypothalamus, all treatments reversed the CMSinduced decrease in $5-HT_{1A}$receptor binding. This reversal effect of N. s. on the decrease in $5-HT_{1A}$receptor binding in the frontal cortex, hippocampus and hypothalamus of rat brains was very similar to that of H. p, but different from that of F. It is concluded that N. s. presents an anti-depression effect through enhancing $5-HT_{1A}$receptor binding.

        In-silico identifi cation and diff erential expression of putative disease resistance-related genes within the collinear region of Brassica napus blackleg resistance locus LepR2’ in Brassica oleracea

        Blackleg disease, caused by Leptosphaeria maculans, greatly aff ects the production of cabbage ( Brassica oleracea ). However,defi nitive R-gene(s) are yet to be identifi ed in this crop. In contrast, a number of R-loci have been identifi ed in A- orB-genome crops. Identifi cation of few resistant cabbage genotypes indicates the presence of R-genes in this C-genome crop. High ancestral synteny between Brassica genomes suggests that the collinear regions of known A- or B-genome R-loci mayalso contain functional R-genes in the C-genome. Strong resistance was observed in the cotyledons of cabbage inbred lineSCNU-98 against two L. maculans isolates, 03–02 s and 00–100 s. We investigated the collinear region of the Brassica napusblackleg resistance locus LepR2’ in B. oleracea since both isolates of L. maculans contain corresponding avirulence genes. The locus was collinear to a 5.8 Mbp genomic segment of B. oleracea chromosome C09 containing 13 genes that have putativedisease resistance-related domains. High expression of genes Bo9g117290 and Bo9g111510 against isolate 00–100 s,and high expression of genes Bo9g126150 and Bo9g111490 against both isolates in the resistant-line SCNU-98 indicatetheir putative roles in blackleg resistance, which remained to be functionally verifi ed. This work enhances our understandingof R-gene-mediated resistance to blackleg in cabbage.

      • In-hospital mortality in patients with STEMI admitted during off hours

        Conflicting results exist on the outcome of off hours PCI in ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). However, there were only a few studies that have focused on the clinical characteristics and outcomes of off hours PCI in STEMI. So, we studied the clinical characteristics and hospital mortality in STEMI patients treated with primary PCI during regular hours (weekdays 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM) versus off hours Weekdays 6:01 PM to 8:59 AM, weekends, and holidays) in Korea Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry. We analyzed in hospital and one year mortality among 5,665 consecutive ST segment elevation myocardial infarction patients treated with primary PCI between November 2005 to January 2008. Total 2,848 (50.2%) patients were treated during off hours. Baseline finding were similar, although regular hours patients were older. Median symptom to balloon time (304 min, IQR 175 to 750 vs. 270 min, IQR 145 to 551, p=0.001) were longer for regular hours primary PCI. Median door to balloon time (71min, IQR: 48 to 132 vs. 59 min, IQR 39 to 110 min, p=0.001) were longer for off hours pPCI. Also, Cardiac enzyme such as Max CK-MB (212.1±299.3 vs 194.7±303.4, p=0.031) and max TnI (72.6±239.5 vs. 58.9±94.4, p=0.013) were increased in off hours pPCI. However, unadjusted in hospital (6.0% off hours vs. 6.0% regular hours, p=0.946) and one year cardiac mortality (11.3% off hours vs. 11.7% regular hours, p=0.661) were comparable. In multivariate analysis, off hours primary PCI did not predict an adverse outcome. In conclusion, when primary PCI was performed within an appropriate reperfusion strategy, the clinical effectiveness of either off hours or regular hours pPCI is comparable.

        A study was made to examine the electrical, compositional, structural and morphological properties of Ag thin films deposited by DC magnetron sputtering in $O_2$ atmosphere with deposition temperature from room temperature to 15$0^{\circ}C$ using in-line sputter system. The Ag films deposited at temperature above $100^{\circ}C$ in oxygen atmosphere gave a similar specific resistivity to and even lower oxygen content than those deposited using pure Ar sputter gas The Ag films deposited with pure Ar gas was mainly composed of crystallites with [111] preferred orientation, while, for those deposited in oxygen atmosphere, more than 50% of the volume was composed of crystallites with [100] orientation. The difference in the micro structure did not cause any difference in the specific resistivity of Ag films. The results showed that the transparent conducting oxide films and the Ag films could be processed sequentially in the same deposition chamber with careful control of deposition temperature, which might result in a cost reduction for constructing the large scale in-line deposition system.
