The Challenges of Education in English at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies
( Dr. Rovshan Ibrahimov ) 한국외국어대학교 국제지역연구센터 2023 문화와 세계 Vol.4 No.2
Teaching in English at Korean universities is becoming increasingly widespread. It`s because English is the primary means of communication in the modern world in the era of globalization. In addition, internationalization has become widespread in Korean universities to attract international students. Thus, the number of courses taught in English has increased dramatically. It is worth noting that the policy of internationalization and the introduction of more lessons in English at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies have even longer traditions. Since regional studies and foreign languages are taught at the university, attracting foreign teachers who mainly teach in English is widely used. This study analyzed the degree of readiness of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies students to receive education in English.
Mobile Robot Motion Framework Based on Enhanced Robust Panel Method
Jasmin Velagic,Lamija Vukovic,Belma Ibrahimovic 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2020 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.18 No.5
This paper proposes a framework for the mobile robot motion in partially unknown static and dynamic environments. Its main part is a path planner which is based on the enhanced robust panel method (ERPM). This proposed method improves an existing panel method in order to be employed for moving obstacles represented as open polygonal chains. The robustness of the proposed method is provided due to the automatic adjustment of the potential field parameters. Therefore, the proposed path-planning strategy incorporates relevant obstacle pruning and activation window algorithms to speed up the overall navigation process. Furthermore, the modified Histogramic-In-Motion-Map (MHIMM) method is proposed to continuously update a grid-based map of the environment. The path planning and robot motion performance evaluation with respect to the sensor noise and different environments is done using various metrics. The effectiveness and robustness of the proposed motion frameworkare demonstrated through numerous realistic scenarios within ROS environment with Pioneer 3DX mobile robot.
A Y-BAND LOOK OF THE SKY WITH 1-M CLASS TELESCOPES
Choi, Chang-Su,Im, Myung-Shin,Jeon, Yi-Seul,Ibrahimov, Mansur The Korean Astronomical Society 2012 Journal of The Korean Astronomical Society Vol.45 No.1
Y-band is a broad passband that is centered at ~1 ${\mu}m$. It is becoming a new, popular window for extragalactic study especially for observations of red objects thanks to recent CCD technology developments. In order to better understand the general characteristics of objects in Y-band, and to investigate the promise of Y-band observations with small telescopes, we carried out imaging observations of several extragalactic fields, brown dwarfs, and high redshift quasars with Y-band filter at the Mt. Lemmon Optical Astronomy Observatory and the Maidanak observatory. From our observations, we constrain the bright end of the galaxy and the stellar number counts in Y-band. We also test the usefulness of high redshift quasar (z >6) selection via i - z - Y color-color diagram, to demonstrate that the i - z - Y color-color diagram is effective for the selection of high redshift quasars even with a conventional optical CCD camera installed at a 1-m class telescope.
SEJONG OPEN CLUSTER SURVEY. I. NGC 2353
Lim, Beom-Du,Sung, Hwan-Kyung,Karimov, R.,Ibrahimov, M. The Korean Astronomical Society 2011 Journal of The Korean Astronomical Society Vol.44 No.2
UBV I CCD photometry of NGC 2353 is performed as a part of the "Sejong Open cluster Survey" (SOS). Using photometric membership criteria we select probable members of the cluster. We derive the reddening and distance to the cluster, i.e., E(B - V ) = 0.10 ${\pm}$ 0.02 mag and 1.17 ${\pm}$ 0.04 kpc, respectively. We find that the projected distribution of the probable members on the sky is elliptical in shape rather than circular. The age of the cluster is estimated to be log(age)=8.1 ${\pm}$ 0.1 in years, older than what was found in previous studies. The minimum value of binary fraction is estimated to be about 48 ${\pm}$ 5 percent from a Gaussian function fit to the distribution of the distance moduli of the photometric members. Finally, we also obtain the luminosity function and the initial mass function (IMF) of the probable cluster members. The slope of the IMF is ${\Gamma}=-1.3{\pm}0.2$.
Vol.23 No.1
Understanding of the basic characteristics of an astronomical instrument is a prerequisite to obtaining reliable data from the instrument. We have analyzed more than 1,000 calibration images from the Fairchild 486 CCD (hereafter the Maidanak 4k CCD system) attached to the AZT-22 1.5m telescope at Maidanak Astronomical Observatory in Uzbekistan. The Maidanak 4k CCD system supports three readout modes through 1, 2, or 4 amplifiers. In most cases observers use 4-amplifier readout mode to save time. We have tested the stability and seasonal variation of zero levels and confirm that two quadrants of the images (Amp 1 & 2) show no appreciable seasonal variation. but the other two quadrants (Amp 3 & Amp 4) show an evident seasonal variation in the bias level. The Cryo Tiger, the cooling system used at the Maidanak 4k CCD system, maintains the CCD temperature at -108'E, and effectively suppresses the dark electrons. The mean value versus the variance plot of the flat images does not show the expected relation for an ideal Poisson noise distribution and this is attributed to the large variation in quantum efficiency between different pixels. In addition, we confirm that there is no appreciable difference in gain between readout amplifiers, but there is a large variation in quantum efficiency across CCD chip especially in U. Due to the finite length of shutter opening and closing time, the effective exposure time varies across the science images. We introduce two parameters to quantify the effect of this uneven illumination and present a method to remove these effects. We also present a method to remove the interference patterns appearing in the images obtained with longer wavelength filters and investigate the spatial variation of the point spread function.
