        근관와동형태에 따른 근관치료된 하악절치의 파절강도

        Straight access cavity design allows the operator to locate all canals, helps in proper cleaning and shaping, ultimately facilitates the obturation of the canal system. However, change in the fracture strength according to the access cavity designs was not clearly demonstrated yet. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of different access cavity designs on the fracture strength in endodontically treated mandibular anterior teeth. Recently extracted mandibular anterior teeth that have no caries, cervical abrasion, and fracture were divided into three groups (Group 1 : conventional lingual access cavity, Group 2 : straight access cavity, Group 3 : extended straight access cavity) according to the cavity designs. After conventional endodontic treatment, cavities were filled with resin core material. Compressive loads parallel to the long axis of the teeth were applied at a crosshead speed of 2mm/min until the fracture occurred. The fracture strength analyzed with ANOVA and the Scheffe test at the 95% confidence level. The results of this study were as follows : 1. The mean fracture strength decrease in following sequence Group 1 (558.90 ± 77.40 N), Group 2 (494.07 ± 123.98 N) and Group 3 (267.33 ± 27.02 N). 2. There was significant difference between Group 3 and other groups (P = 0.00). Considering advantage of direct access to apical third and results of this study, straight access cavity is recommended for access cavity form of the mandibular anterior teeth

        We present a case of angiomyofibroblastoma of the vulva in a 32-year-old woman. The asymptomatic lesion measured 4×3cm and appeared as a gray-white myxoid mass on cut sections Histologically, it appeared as a relatively well-circumscribed spindle cell proliferation with alternating hypercellular and hypocellular areas and proliferation of thin-walled blood vessels. Immunohistochemically, the stromal cells expressed vimentin, CD34 and progesterone receptor, but not desmin, α-smooth muscle actin, S-100 protein and estrogen receptor. These features were similar to those of angiomyofibroblastoma as previously reported in the vulva except negativity for desmin A case of pathologically proven very rare tumor of angiomyofibroblastoma of the vulva is presented with a literature review

      • 환경 그림에 나타난 중학생의 환경인식

        학생들은 그리기를 좋아하지만, 그리기는 학생들의 사고를 이해하기 위한 방법으로서는 간과되어 왔다. 이 연구의 목적은 환경 그림에 나타난 중학생의 환경 인식을 조사하기 위한 것이다. 연구 대상은 대구광역시에 있는 7학년 331명에게 환경에 대한 그림을 각자 그리도록 한 후, 분석 기준에 따라 그림을 분석하고 범주화하였다. 연구 결과, 중학생들은 자신의 주변 환경에 대하여 아주 잘 인식하고 있으며, 영역별 환경요소에 대한 관심에 있어서는 자연환경, 환경위기, 인공환경의 영역의 순으로 인식하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 환경 그림의 분석을 통하여 환경에 대한 중학생의 생각을 연구할 수 있었으며, 이러한 연구 결과는 쾌적한 환경에서의 학생들의 미래 생활을 긍정적인 방향으로 지도하는데 기여할 수 있을 것이다. Young children enjoy drawing, but it is an underused method of probing their awareness of natural environment. This paper investigates to study the environmental awareness of students through drawing. The drawings of 311 students from middle school are analysed and categorized into the criteria. Results showed that the environmental awareness has direct relation with drawings of students, and 7th grade students are quite aware about the environment. It is proposed that student's minds about the prevailing situation can be studied and they can be guided in positive directions to lead their future life in comfortable environment.

      • AOPWIN을 이용한 Acetanilide의 광분해 특성 평가

        Acetanilide is a High Production Volume Chemical, which is produced about 2,300 tons/year in Korea as of 1998 survey. Most is used as an intermediate for synthesis of pharmaceuticals and dyes, and the chemical is one of seven chemicals of which human and environmental risk are being assessed by National Institute of Environmental Research under the frame of OECD SIDS program. The Atmospheric Oxidation Program for Microsoft Windows (AOPWIN) is used to estimates the rate constant for the atmospheric, gas-phase reaction between photochemically produced hydroxyl radicals and organic chemicals. It is also used to estimates the rate constant for the gas-phase reaction between ozone and olefinic/acetylenic compounds. The rate constants estimated by the program are then used to calculate atmospheric half-lives for organic compounds based upon average atmospheric concentrations of hydroxyl radicals and ozone. AOPWIN requires only a chemical structure to make these predictions. Structures are entered into AOPWIN by SMILES (Simplified Molecular Input Line Entry System) notations. In this study, one of environmental fate/distribution of the chemical elements, photodegradation of acetanilide was estimated using AOPWIN model based on SMILES notation and chemical name data.

      • Lipopolysaccharide, Dexamethasone, 및 N-Nitro-L-Arginine Methyl Ester가 흰쥐 간 조직의 프리라디칼 발생과 제거에 미치는 영향

        Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulates various immune and inflammatory reactions to induces the generation of reactive oxygen intermediates (ROI) and reactive nitrogen intermediates (RNI). ROI and RNI are free radicals with very high reactivity, oxidize cellular constituents including proteins and lipid membranes, and thus play important roles in the pathogenesis of tissue damages in LPS-induced septic shock. The present study examined effects of dexamethasone (DexM), and N-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) on the generation of ROI and RNI, and on the activities of enzymes removing ROI in the liver of rat model of septic shock. DexM has widely been used as an immunosuppressant. L-NAME has known to block synthesis of nitric oxide (NO), the main RNI, by inhibiting NO synthase (NOS). LPS (10 mg/kg body weight) markedly enhanced NO generation in serum and liver. The increased NO generation was completely blocked by pretreatment with DexM (10 mg/kg) and effectively inhibited by L-NAME (10 mg/kg). Induction of NOS protein expression by LPS was demonstrated by a Western analysis. The NOS expression was completely blocked by DexM pre-treatment, and markedly inhibited by L-NAME. However, the generation of superoxide radical, an important ROI, was not enhance in rat liver by LPS, rather it was decreased a little. Superoxide radical production was increased by L-NAME treatment or combined treatment of DexM and LPS. The level of lipid peroxidation, an index for free radical-induced cell damage, was increased by either LPS or DexM. The enhancement of lipid peroxidation by DexM was abolished by adding LPS. DexM markedly enhanced the activities of ROI removing enzymes, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase and catalase. However, rats were treated with LPS in addition to DexM, the elevated activities of superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase and catalase were abolished. These results provide information on the generation and removal of ROI and RNI by LPS, DexM and L-NAME in rat liver, and on development of drugs to inhibit free radical-induced liver damage in sepsis.

      • 중학교 화학 분야의 개념 연구에 대한 문제점 분석

        중학교 화학 분야의 오개념 조사에 사용된 설문지의 문제점을 밝혀, 학생들의 정확한 오개념 조사를 위한 바탕을 마련하고자 한다. 기존의 중학교 화학 분야에 대한 오개념 조사 설문지가 연구 대상 학생들에게 잘못 사용되고 있었으며, 문항 내용 자체에도 오류가 있었음을 지적하고자 하는 것이다. 선행 연구들의 분석 결과들이 오개념이 아니라 무개념임을 확인하기 위하여 중학교 1학년 학생 182명을 대상으로 두 종류의 설문지 A와 B를 투입하여 조사하였다. 설문지 A는 오개념 연구를 위해 선행 연구들에서 사용한 문항들로 이루어진 것으로, 이를 투입한 결과를 선행 연구들의 결과들과 비교하기 위한 것이다. 그리고 설문지 B는 설문지 A에서 응답한 학생들의 구체적인 생각을 알아보기 위하여 새롭게 개발한 것이다. 설문지 A를 통해 얻은 결과와 선행 연구들에서 얻은 결과들을 비교할 때, 전반적으로 일관성이 없게 나타났으며, 중학교 1학년 학생들의 주관식 정답률이 객관식 정답률에 비해 매우 낮게 나타나는 공통점은 있었으나, 문항 자체의 오류들이 발견되었다. 설문지 B를 통해 학생들의 생각을 알아본 결과, 설문지 A에서 과학적 개념과 오개념으로 분류된 학생들 중에서 무개념으로 판단된 경우가 많았다. This study was to clarify the problems of questionnaires related to misconception researches of middle school chemistry and to prepare a ground for the correct misconception research for students. For these purposes, the questionnaires of the misconception researches related to chemistry in middle school were analyzed, and the mistakes of the questions which were used in 7th grade students were found, based on a definition of misconceptions in this study. Also, the errors in contents of the questionnaires were indicated. The results of the analysis revealed that most of the 7th grade students did not have misconceptions contrary to some of the previous researches conclusions. They only had no conceptions related to the contents. In order to support this analysis, two different questionnaire sets (questionnaire set A and B) for 182 7th grade students were used. After obtaining similar results to those of the previous researches by the questionnaire set A, the students' thoughts were examined by the questionnaire set B. From the results of this study, the correct answer rates of subjective questions were very low compared with those of objective questions in the questionnaire set A for 7th grade students. It was hard to find consistency among the results of the researches using the questionnaire set A. And many contents of the questions consisted of the questionnaire set A were not consisted with a definition of misconceptions. There were errors in the contents of the questions, too. The students classified as the having-science-concepts group and the having-misconceptions group by the questionnaire set A were classified as the having-no-concepts group by the questionnaire set B.

        신장 이식 환자에서 CMV duodenitis 치료 후 병발한 Pneumocystis jirovecii 폐렴 1예

        Solid organ transplant recipients are at increased risk for various opportunistic infections because of their immunocompromised state. Pneumocystis jirovecii (carinii) infection has posed serious problems in these patients which can be life threatening. It has been reported that incidences of Pneumocystis infection have dramatically decreased with the use of prophylactic antibiotics. However, there have been reports that say the risks of Pneumocystis infection are increasing with the use of new immunosuppressive drugs and in presence of preceding immunomodulating infections such as CMV infection which is another common opportunistic infection in transplant patients. There were only a few case reports abroad on Pneumocystis infection following CMV infection in patients who underwent kidney transplantation. In Korea, however, there hasnt been any report of such cases. Herein we report a case of a kidney transplant patient who experienced a serious episode of Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia following CMV duodenitis. After adequate mechanical ventilation and use of antibiotics the patient completely recovered without any complications.

      • Inhibitory effect of dihydroartemisinin against phorbol ester-induced cyclooxygenase-2 expression in macrophages

        Dihydroartemisinin (DHA), a semi-synthetic derivative of artemisinin isolated from the traditional Chinese herb Artemisia annua L., has recently been shown to possess antitumor activity in various cancer cells. However, the effect of anti-inflammatory potentials of DHA in murine macrophage RAW 264.7 cells has not been studied. The present study investigated the effect of COX-2 and molecular mechanisms by DHA in PMA stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. DHA dose-dependently decreased PMA-induced COX-2 expression and PGE2 production, as well as COX-2 promoter-driven luciferase activity. Additionally, DHA decreased luciferase activity of COX-2 regulation-related transcription factors including NF-κB, AP-1, C/EBP and CREB. DHA also remarkably reduced PMA-induced p65, C/EBPβ, c-jun and CREB nuclear translocation. Furthermore, DHA evidently inhibited PMA-induced phosphorylation of AKT and the MAP Kinases, such as ERK, JNK and p38. Taken together, our data indicated that DHA effectively attenuates COX-2 production via down-regulation of AKT and MAPK pathway, revealing partial molecular basis for the anti-inflammatory properties of DHA.ⓒ2013 Elsevier Ltd.
