        쓰레기 매립장 주변 농촌 주민들의 삶의 질 연구

        Objectives: This study aims to examine if a garbage dumping site has real and negative influence on the quality of life (QOL) for the nearby residents. The net effects of the residential distance from the garbage dumping site and from the garbage truck route were investigated for five domains of the QOL. Methods: Two hundred fifty seven Shin-dong Myeon residents, Chun-cheon Si, participated in a self-administrated survey. The Shin-dong Myeon garbage dumping site began operating in 1996. ANCOV A with generalized linear models and multiple regression analysis were performed. Results: Descriptive analyses show that a residence nearby a garbage dumping site is negatively associated with the physical and environmental domains of the QOL. The residential distance from the garbage truck route does not exert any significant effect on various domains of QOL, except for the environmental domain. On the multivariate analysis, the residents living near the garbage dumping site tended to have a significantly negative QOL in the physical and environmental domains. However, the distance from the garbage truck route did not show a significant nor substantial effect on the QOL. The demographic and socioeconomic control variables are associated with a number of the QOL domains, and their patterns are consistent with the general expectations. Conclusions: The results indicated that a garbage dumping site is considered to be an environmental hazard among the nearby residents according to the lower scores on the physical and environmental domains of the QOL. The findings from this study provide comprehensive understanding on the residents' QOL, and they may help politicians and policy makers make decisions for appropriate interventions.

        치태에서 분리된 Streptococcus mutans에 대한 서양산 고추냉이(Armoracia rusticana) 뿌리 추출물의 향균효과

        천연항균제의 개발에 대한 관심이 날로 증가하는 가운데,다수의 연구들에서 Escherichia coli. Salmonella typhimurium, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Aspergillus parasiticus, Helicobacter pylori 등 다양한 세균들에 대한 서양산 고추냉이의 항균 효과가 밝혀 진 바 있다. 서양산 고추냉이가 치아우식증의 원인균인 Streptococcus mutans에 대해서도 항균성을 나타낸다는 보고가 있으나,아직까지 구강내에서 분리된 임상분리균주를 대상으로 한 연구는 미진한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 사람의 구강내에서 분리 및 동정된 Streptococcus mutans에 대한 서양산 고추냉이 뿌리 추출물의 항균 효과를,대표적 항균제인 클로르헥사딘과 비교하여 알아보고,Streptococcus mutans 표준균주에 대한 서양산 고추냉이 뿌리 추출물의 효과와 비교하고자 하였다. 항균 효과를 평가하기 위해 최소억제농도와 최소살균농도를 측정하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 본 연구에서 Streptococcus mutans 임상 분리균주와 표준균주에 대한 서양산 고추냉이 뿌리 추출물의 최소억제 농도는 각각 평균 0.083∼0.25% (833.33∼2500 ppm), 평균 0.25%(2500 ppm)으로 나타나,두 종류의 균주에 대한 항균 효과에는 뚜렷한 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 2. 서양산 고추냉이 뿌리 추출물은 0.083∼0.25%의 농도에서 콜로르헥사딘(0.0021∼0.0041%)과 대등한 항균 효과를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. Recently interesting in development of antimicrobial agent from natural origin has been increased in these days. Many studies have been reported antimicrobial effect of Horseradish(Armoracia rusticana) root extracts against various microorganisms such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Vibrio parahaemolyticu, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Aspergillus parasiticus, Helicobacter pylori. The main component related to antimicrobial activity in horseradish is well known as allyl isothiocyanate(AIT). In this study, we investigated the antimicrobial effects of Horseradish(Armoracia rusticana) root extracts against Streptococcus mutans isolated from human dental plaque, Streptococcus mutans reference strain and compared with that of chlorhexidine. Horseradish root extracts and chlorhexidine were tested to determine their minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration(MBC). The result of this study can be summerized as follows: 1. Horseradish root extracts showed antimicrobial effect against both S. mutans isolated strain and reference strain, their MIC were respectively 0.083∼0.25% (833.33∼2500 ppm), 0.25% (2500 ppm). Horseradish root extracts showed antimicrobial effect against S. mutans isolated strain at same or slightly lower concentration compared with MIC of reference strain. 2. 0 083∼0.25% horseradish root extracts showed similar antimicrobial effect with chlorhexidine (0.0021∼0.0041%).

        영아용 가정방문 몬테소리 수행평가 도구 개발에 관한 연구

        본 연구는 영아를 대상으로 가정방문 프로그램에서 실시하고 있는 몬테소리 교육 프로 그램에 대한 수행평가도구를 개발하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 가정방문 교사의 수행평가에 대한 전반적인 인식과 요구조사를 거쳐 수행평가도구 개발의 필요성과 중요성을 살펴보았으며, 예비조사와 전문가 협의를 거쳐 도구의 항목과 점수체계를 구성하여 평가 도구를 개발하였다. 수행평가도구는 가정방문 프로그램의 교육내용 중 4개 영역(신체발달, 창의성발달, 일상생활연습, 감각교육)에서 각각 1개씩 총 4개의 수행평가도구를 개발하였다. 개발된 도구는 만 24개월 미만 영아 50명을 대상으로 신뢰도와 타당도를 살펴보았다. 그 결과 매우 높은 문항 내적 합치도를 보여주었으며 구인타당도와 공인타당도를 살펴볼 때 개발된 평가도구는 적절한 측정도구로써 사용될 수 있는 가능성을 나타내었다. The purpose of this study was to develop a Early Childhood Home School Montessori performance Assessment Scale, a scale for assessing the performance of 6-23 month old children in Montessori programs. Subject of the study consisted of 50 6-23 month old children in Seoul and 133 teacher teachers in Seoul. Statistical methods employed were Cronbach's Alpha, construct validity and concurrent validity(with Korean Child Social Maturity Scales). These results indicate that Early Childhood Montessori Home School performance Assessment Scale developed by the authors is a valid scale with high reliability.

        2003년 5월의 연무 관측시 에어로졸의 기상·물리·화학 특성

        Severe haze, mist, and fog phenomena occurred in the central part of Korea during 15~25 May 2003 resulted in poor visibility and air quality. When these phenomena occurred, Korean peninsula was under the effects of anticyclone. The atmosphere was stable, and wind speed was so weak. Under this meteorological conditions, air quality was worse and worse. The characteristics of aerosol in Seoul, Incheon, and Gosan (Jeju) during this period are investigated from the PM_(10). TSP concentrations and aerosol number concentrations. Concentrations of PM_(10) and TSP measured at KMA increased upto 176 and 230㎍/㎥ on 22 May 2003, respectively. Aerosol number concentrations of size range from 0.82 to 6.06 ㎛ increased in Seoul on 17, 19, and 21~24 May 2003, and the concentrations of NO₂ and SO₂had maximum value of 0.165 ppm at Gwanak Mt. and 0.036 ppm at Guro-dong on 23 May 2003, respectively. Result from analysis on heavy metal elements showed high concentrations of Zn, Pb, Cr, Ni, Cu, and Cd during 20~24 May 2003. This event is examined by comprehensive analyses of synoptic weather conditions, satellite images, concentrations of suspended particles and air pollutants, and heavy metal elements.

      • Inactivation of Src-to-Ezrin Pathway: A Possible Mechanism in the Ouabain-Mediated Inhibition of A549 Cell Migration

        <P>Ouabain, a cardiac glycoside found in plants, is primarily used in the treatment of congestive heart failure and arrhythmia because of its ability to inhibit Na<SUP>+</SUP>/K<SUP>+</SUP>-ATPase pump. Recently ouabain has been shown to exert anticancer effects but the underlying mechanism is not clear. Here, we explored the molecular mechanism by which ouabain exerts anticancer effects in human lung adenocarcinoma. Employing proteomic techniques, we found 7 proteins downregulated by ouabain in A549 including p-ezrin, a protein associated with pulmonary cancer metastasis in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, when the relative phosphorylation levels of 39 intracellular proteins were compared between control and ouabain-treated A549 cells, p-Src (Y416) was also found to be downregulated by ouabain. Furthermore, western blot revealed the ouabain-mediated downregulation of p-FAK (Y925), p-paxillin (Y118), p130CAS, and Na<SUP>+</SUP>/K<SUP>+</SUP>-ATPase subunits that have been shown to be involved in the migration of cancer cells. The inhibitory effect of ouabain and Src inhibitor PP2 on the migration of A549 cells was confirmed by Boyden chamber assay. Anticancer effects of ouabain in A549 cells appear to be related to its ability to regulate and inactivate Src-to-ezrin signaling, and proteins involved in focal adhesion such as Src, FAK, and p130CAS axis are proposed here.</P>

        Thermal property and latent heat energy storage behavior of sodium acetate trihydrate composites containing expanded graphite and carboxymethyl cellulose for phase change materials

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Sodium acetate trihydrate (SAT) composites containing expanded graphite (EG) and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) were prepared using different concentrations of EG and CMC to address challenges concerning phase segregation, aggregation of EG, and supercooling. The effects of EG (as the nucleating agent) and CMC (as the thickening agent) on the thermal properties, latent heat, and thermal cycling stability of the SAT composites as a phase change material (PCM) were then evaluated. The results confirmed that thermal conductivity increased as the concentration of EG and CMC increased. In particular, SAT composites containing 2.5 wt% EG and 5 wt% CMC exhibited a thermal conductivity of 1.85 W/mK. The latent heat of the SAT composites containing EG and CMC decreased as the concentration of EG and CMC increased.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Improvement of heat transfer enhancement techniques by inserting thermal conductive fillers as EG. </LI> <LI> Maximization of impregnation of SAT between interlayer of EG. </LI> <LI> Minimization of the latent heat loss of SAT due to the porosity of EGs and viscosity of CMC. </LI> </UL> </P>

      • Preparation and characterization of polyacrylonitrile-based carbon fibers produced by electron beam irradiation pretreatment

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>This study evaluated the feasibility of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibers stabilized by thermal treatment after electron beam irradiation (EBI) in the production of carbon fibers. The effects of EBI and thermal treatments on the PAN precursor were verified by FT-IR, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). FT-IR spectra confirmed that the intensities of the CN stretching vibration at 2244cm<SUP>−1</SUP> significantly decreased as the thermal treatment temperature increase from 200°C to 250°C and the holding time from 20min to 40min after EBI process. This decrease was caused by the cyclization of nitrile groups upon stabilization by the EBI and thermal treatments. The thermal properties were characterized by DSC, which confirmed that the EBI affected the quantity of the released heat as well as the position of exothermic equilibrium over a wide range of low temperatures. The majority of the exothermic peaks disappeared after thermal treatment. The stabilization index (SI) values for the PAN fibers that were exposed to EBI and thermal treatment after EBI were evaluated by XRD. The SI value of the PAN fibers that were treated at 250°C for 40min after EBI was 99.21%. Additionally, the tensile strength of carbon fibers that were produced from PAN attained about 2.3GPa, the cross-section exhibited a clear and brittle morphology.</P>

        Influence of Acetylation on the Antimicrobial Properties of Chitosan Non-Woven Fabrics

        Chitosan non-woven fabrics were acetylated to improve their antimicrobial properties. The active chlorine content, antimicrobial properties, storage stability, and surface properties of acetylated chitosan non-woven fabrics were investigated. The active chlorine content of the fabrics increased upon reduction of the degree of the acetylation or increase in sodium hypochlorite concentration. Acetylated chitosan non-woven fabrics showed powerful antimicrobial activity by efficiently killing Escherichia coli and forming a growth inhibition zone for Staphylococcus aureus. Furthermore, scanning electron microscopy observations demonstrated that the acetylated chitosan non-woven fabrics were not damaged in sodium hypochlorite solution.

      • Influence of orientation on ordered microstructure of PAN-based fibers during electron beam irradiation stabilization

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>This work evaluated the effect of various amounts of tension on polyacrylonitrile (PAN) precursor fibers during electron beam irradiation (EBI) stabilization. X-ray diffraction (XRD), tensile testing, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were implemented to determine the effects of tension on the PAN fibers. During the stabilization process, the fibers shrunk due to a loss of molecular alignment, and the addition of tension acting on the PAN fibers during stabilization was proposed to address this issue. In this work, PAN fibers were stabilized by EBI under various loads. It was found from the XRD data that tension led to the development of crystalline structures during EBI stabilization. From the tensile test, it was found that tension led to a small increase in strength due to conversion of disordered structures into ordered structures in the fibers.</P>
