        Strontium Alleviates Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress in a Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Model

        The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of strontium on fatty liver, and to clarify the possible mechanisms by which strontium improves nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). We also evaluated how strontium affected the endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) pathways. We established an in vitro model of NAFLD using a human hepatocyte cell line (L02) treated with 0.2 mM palmitic acid. The Sprague-Dawley rats were fed with a high-fat diet (HFD) to establish NAFLD model in vivo. After strontium treatment, the total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), and lipid deposition in L02 cells and liver tissues were determined. Strontium treatment suppressed intracellular TC and TG levels and lipid accumulation in L02 cells, and the effect of high concentrations of strontium were more obvious. Strontium significantly reduced the mRNA and protein expression of glucose-regulated protein 78 (GRP78), activating transcription factor 6 (ATF6), inositol requiring enzyme 1 (IRE1), SREBP cleavage activator protein (SCAP), sterol regulatory element binding protein 1c (SREBP-1c), and SREBP-2 in L02 cells. In HFD-fed rats, strontium treatment reduced serum TC, TG, and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels, concurrent with a decrease in hepatic lipid accumulation. Furthermore, strontium treatment reduced the expression of GRP78 and SREBP-2 protein in liver tissues. Overall, strontium alleviated hepatic steatosis by decreasing ERS-related protein expression in vivo and in vitro models. The results indicated that strontium has the potential to become a new therapy for the prevention and treatment of NAFLD.

        Experimental studies on composite beams with high-strength steel and concrete

        This paper presents the experimental studies of the flexural behavior of steel-concrete composite beams. Herein, steel-concrete composite beams were constructed with a welded steel I section beam and concrete slab with different material strength. Four simply supported composite beams subjected to two-point concentrated loads were tested and compared to investigate the effect of high strength engineering materials on the overall flexural response, including failure modes, load deflection behavior, strain response and interface slip. The experimental results show that the moment capacity of composite beams has been improved effectively when high-strength steel and concrete are used. Comparisons of the ultimate flexural strength of beams tested are then made with the calculated results according to the methods specified in guideline Eurocode 4. The ultimate flexural strength based on current codes may be slightly unconservative for predicating the moment capacity of composite beams with high-strength steel or concrete.

        Analysis of seismic behavior of composite frame structures

        There are great needs of simple but reliable mechanical nonlinear behavior analysis and performance evaluation method for frames constructed by steel and concrete composite beams or columns when the structures subjected extreme loads, such as earthquake loads. This paper describes an approach of simplified macro-modelling for composite frames consisting of steel-concrete composite beams and CFST columns, and presents the performance evaluation procedure based on the pushover nonlinear analysis results. A four-story two-bay composite frame underground is selected as a study case. The establishment of the macro-model of the composite frame is guided by the characterization of nonlinear behaviors of composite structural members. Pushover analysis is conducted to obtain the lateral force versus top displacement curve of the overall structure. The identification method of damage degree of composite frames has been proposed. The damage evolution and development of this composite frame in case study has been analyzed. The failure mode of this composite frame is estimated as that the bottom CFST columns damage substantially resulting in the failure of the bottom story. Finally, the seismic performance of the composite frame with high strength steel is analyzed and compared with the frame with ordinary strength steel, and the result shows that the employment of high strength steel in the steel tube of CFST columns and steel beam of composite beams benefits the lateral resistance and elasticity resuming performance of composite frames.

        Philosophical activities, such as “Shared Thinking”, “Shared Reading” and “Shared Pleasure” have been carried out for more than one year at 1957 Coffee. The thinking and language training programs named Philosophy Cafe are designed to revive the values of informal philosophical consultancy and bring back the historical and theoretical studies of both the Chinese and Western philosophical traditions to apply them today. Based on this platform of philosophical practice, participants can realize and share their joy and suffering, rather than being confused and isolated. Through interaction and sharing, the case studies of philosophical activities can be used to explain the differences among human thinking, language and action, and provide exercises to improve current philosophical education.

      • A Novel Nonlinear Optimization Coverage Algorithm in Wireless Sensor Networks

        Maximize coverage and prolong the network lifetime for wireless sensor networks has become one of the key topics of research. For this, put forward a kind of node scheduling strategy based on covering algorithm. The algorithm by Poisson distribution model structure node density formula, according to the node density formula in the monitoring region deploying to effective coverage; On the other hand, through the node state scheduling mechanism updates as well as to the neighbor node, can be made of residual energy of nodes and monitoring the area sensor the node energy consumption balance, so as to prolong the network lifetime goal. The simulation results show that, the algorithm cans not only useless nodes completely too effective coverage, improve the coverage while optimizing the cyber source configuration, prolong the network lifetime.

        Sparing Effects of Sufentanil on Epidural Ropivacaine in Elderly Patients Undergoing Transurethral Resection of Prostate Surgery

        Purpose: This study examined the sparing effect of sufentanil on the median effectiveconcentration (EC50) of epidural ropivacaine in elderly patients undergoing elective transurethral resection of prostate (TURP). Materials and Methods: This was a prospective randomized double-blind dose-response study. Fifty eight elderlypatients with American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status I‒II who were scheduled for TURP surgery under epidural anesthesia were randomly allocatedto a group receiving 15 mL of ropivacaine (group R) or a group receiving ropivacaine plus 5 μg of sufentanil (group RS). The concentration of ropivacaine was determined by a Dixon’s up-and-down sequential allocation. The first participantreceived 0.3% of ropivacaine in both groups and subsequent concentrations were determined by the response of the previous patient in the same group. The EC50 of epidural ropivacaine was analyzed using the Dixon and Massey method. Results: The EC50 of ropivacaine during TURP surgery was 0.186% (95% confidenceinterval, 0.173‒0.200%) in group R, and 0.136% (95% confidence interval, 0.127‒0.144%) in group RS (p<0.01). No differences in Bromage scale of motor block examination and the onset time of sensory block were observed. Conclusion:Administration of 5 μg of epidural sufentanil caused a 37% reduction in the EC50 of epidural ropivacaine in elderly patients who underwent TURP surgery. Thus, sufentanil addition during surgery of TURP can decrease the dose of ropivacaineanesthesia required.

        Language Training in Activities of Academic Philosophy Cafe

        Philosophy Cafe is a category of informal philosophical activity, distinct from formal philosophical activities such as Socratic dialogue. As well as performing the regulative functions of philosophical counseling and practical philosophy, Philosophy Cafe thus introduces a new lifestyle. 1957 Coffee is in the campus of Inner Mongolia University and serves in this paper as an example of Philosophy Cafe. 1957 Coffee has identified three streams of activities, namely: “shared thinking” (sixiang 思享), “shared reading” (duxiang 读享) and “shared pleasure” (yingxiang 影享). Each activity involves two of the most basic philosophical studies: thinking and communicating. Taking “shared thinking” as an example, I will present some of the activities that are already carried out and clarify the theoretical grounds on which they are based. While the practical operation of 1957 Coffee is very much in the service of philosophical research and inquiry, it also constructs an exemplary platform for philosophical practice across the campus.

        In this paper, we study the uniqueness of entire functions andprove the following result: Let f(z) and g(z) be twononconstant entire functions, nge 7 a positive integer, and leta be a nonzero finite complex number. If f^{n}(z)(f(z)-1)f'(z)and g^{n}(z)(g(z)-1)g'(z) share a CM, then f(z)equiv g(z).The result improves the theorem due to ref. [3].

        Effects of Acute Sacral Neuromodulation at Different Pulse Widths on Bladder Overactivity in Pigs

        Purpose: Sacral nerve stimulation has been used to treat overactive bladder. This study evaluated the effects of stimulation using different pulse widths on the inhibition of bladder overactivity by sacral nerve stimulation (SNM) in pigs. Methods: Implant-driven stimulators were used to stimulate the S3 spinal nerve in 7 pigs. Cystometry was performed by infusing normal saline (NS) or acetic acid (AA). SNM at pulse widths of 64 μsec to 624 μsec was conducted at the intensity threshold at which observable perianal and/or tail movement was induced. Multiple cystometrograms were performed to determine the effects of different pulse widths on the micturition reflex. Results: AA-induced bladder overactivity reduced the bladder capacity to 46.9%±7.1% of the NS control level (P<0.05). During AA infusion, SNM at 64 μsec, 204 μsec, and 624 μsec increased the bladder capacity to 126.1%±6.9%, 129.5%±7.3%, and 140.1%±7.6% of the AA control level (P<0.05). No significant differences were found among the results obtained using pulse widths of 64 μsec, 204 μsec, and 624 μsec (P>0.05). The actual intensity threshold varied from 0.7 to 8 V. The mean intensity threshold (T visual) for pulse widths of 64 μs, 204 μs, and 624 μs were 5.64±0.76 V, 3.11±0.48 V, and 2.52±0.49 V. T visual for pulse widths of 64 μsec was larger than the other two T visual for pulse widths of 204 μsec and 624 μsec (P<0.05). No significant differences were found among the T visual for pulse widths of 204 μsec and 624 μsec (P>0.05). Conclusions: This study indicated that different pulse widths could play a role in inhibiting bladder overactivity. It is not yet certain which pulse widths increased bladder capacity compared with AA levels, to minimize energy consumption and maintain patient comfort during stimulation, 204 μsec may be an appropriate pulse width for SNM.

      • A Two-Phase Hybrid Optimization Algorithm for Solving Complex Optimization Problems

        For solving traveling salesman problem (TSP), the ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm and simulated annealing (SA) algorithm are used to propose a two-phase hybrid optimization (TPASHO) algorithm in this paper. In proposed TPASHO algorithm, the advantages of parallel, collaborative and positive feedback of the ACO algorithm are used to implement the global search in the current temperature. And adaptive adjustment threshold strategy is used to improve the space exploration and balance the local exploitation. When the calculation process of the ACO algorithm falls into the stagnation, the SA algorithm is used to get a local optimal solution. And the obtained best solution of the ACO algorithm is regarded as the initial solution of the SA algorithm, and then a fine search is realized in the neighborhood. Finally, the probabilistic jumping property of the SA algorithm is used to effectively avoid falling into local optimal solution. In order to verify the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed TPASHO algorithm, some typical TSP is selected to test. The simulation results show that the proposed TPASHO algorithm can effectively obtain the global optimal solution and avoid the stagnation phenomena. And it has the better search precision and the faster convergence speed.
