Diffraction behavior of an azo-dye-doped nematic liquid crystal without applied electric field

        Hongyue Gao,Kaiyu Gu,Zhongxiang Zhou,Yongyuan Jiang,Dewei Gong 한국물리학회 2008 Current Applied Physics Vol.8 No.1

We investigate the dependence of the two-beam coupling diffraction efficiency on the experimental parameters, and hence achieve the optimum experimental conditions for holographic recording in planar Methyl Red-doped nematic liquid crystal film without external electric field. Under the optimum experimental conditions, the diffraction efficiency of a holographic grating is improved to 21.4%, and holographic image with long-term stability is stored in the film. These results provide an experimental basis for holographic data storage in this liquid crystal film We investigate the dependence of the two-beam coupling diffraction efficiency on the experimental parameters, and hence achieve the optimum experimental conditions for holographic recording in planar Methyl Red-doped nematic liquid crystal film without external electric field. Video-based Height Measurements of Multiple Moving Objects

( Mingxin Jiang ),( Hongyu Wang ),( Tianshuang Qiu ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2014 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.8 No.9

This paper presents a novel video metrology approach based on robust tracking. From videos acquired by an uncalibrated stationary camera, the foreground likelihood map is obtained by using the Codebook background modeling algorithm, and the multiple moving objects are tracked by a combined tracking algorithm. Then, we compute vanishing line of the ground plane and the vertical vanishing point of the scene, and extract the head feature points and the feet feature points in each frame of video sequences. Finally, we apply a single view mensuration algorithm to each of the frames to obtain height measurements and fuse the multi-frame measurements using RANSAC algorithm. Compared with other popular methods, our proposed algorithm does not require calibrating the camera, and can track the multiple moving objects when occlusion occurs. Therefore, it reduces the complexity of calculation and improves the accuracy of measurement simultaneously. The experimental results demonstrate that our method is effective and robust to occlusion.

Aqueous two-phase extraction to separate alpha-ketoglutaric acid from fermentation broth by combining crystallization

        Xueqi Shi,Weiyi Su,Hongyu Zhang,Jing Fang,Ning Xu,Yanjun Jiang,Hao Li 한국공업화학회 2022 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.115 No.-

Alpha-ketoglutaric acid (a-KG) is a crucial intermediate with broad application prospects. However, thedownstream separation of a-KG from fermentation broth with low concentration and complex componentshas become the bottleneck of large-scale production. In this study, a-KG was separated from theactual fermentation broth by aqueous two-phase system (ATPS) and crystallization. The optimal ATPScomposed of acetone/(NH4)2SO4 was selected by studying the phase diagram and a-KG distributionbehavior in different organic solvents and salts/sugars. Under the optimized conditions, the purity ofa-KG products from crude fermentation broth reached 98.08%, and the one-pass extraction efficiencywas 90.52%. The removal of cell debris and soluble proteins increased with the increase of acetone and(NH4)2SO4 concentrations, with the removal ratios reaching up to 99.44% and 86.54%. In addition,92.56% of the glucose was distributed in the aqueous phase. Although the a-KG fermentation broth ismore complex than the whole-cell biotransformation, impurities in the crude fermentation broth couldbe efficiently removed and a higher a-KG distribution coefficient was obtained. Meanwhile, the recovered(NH4)2SO4 could be reused for fermentation medium. This strategy provides an economical and effectivemethod combined with upstream biosynthesis to recover a-KG and other bioproducts from crude fermentationbroth.

Aerobic Denitrification: A Review of Important Advances of the Last 30 Years

        Bin Ji,Kai Yang,Lei Zhu,Yu Jiang,Hongyu Wang,Jun Zhou,Huining Zhang 한국생물공학회 2015 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.20 No.4

Understanding aerobic denitrification has become an important focus of environmental microbiology. Aerobic denitrification can be performed by various genera of microorganisms and describes the use of nitrate (NO3 −) as oxidizing agents under an aerobic atmosphere. Isolation of aerobic denitrifiers, enzymes involved in aerobic denitrifiers, phylogenetic distribution of aerobic denitrifiers, factors affecting the performance of aerobic denitrifiers, attempts of applications and possible future trends are depicted. The periplasmic nitrate reductase is vital for aerobic denitrifiers and NapA gene may be the proof of aerobic denitrification. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that aerobic denitrifiers mainly belong to α-, β- and γ-Proteobacteria. Aerobic denitrifiers tend to work efficiently at 25 ~ 37°C and pH 7 ~ 8, when dissolved oxygen concentration is 3 ~ 5 mg/L and C/N load ratio is 5 ~ 10. In addition, recent progresses and applications on aerobic denitrifiers are described, including single aerobic reactors, sequencing batch reactor and biofilm reactors. The review attempts to shed light on the fundamental understanding in aerobic denitrification.

Curcumin protects against the intestinal ischemia-reperfusion injury: involvement of the tight junction protein ZO-1 and TNF-α related mechanism

        Tian, Shuying,Guo, Ruixue,Wei, Sichen,Kong, Yu,Wei, Xinliang,Wang, Weiwei,Shi, Xiaomeng,Jiang, Hongyu The Korean Society of Pharmacology 2016 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology Vol.20 No.2

Present study aimed to investigate the effect of curcumin-pretreatment on intestinal I/R injury and on intestinal mucosa barrier. Thirty Wistar rats were randomly divided into: sham, I/R, and curcumin groups (n=10). Animals in curcumin group were pretreated with curcumin by gastric gavage (200 mg/kg) for 2 days before I/R. Small intestine tissues were prepared for Haematoxylin & Eosin (H&E) staining. Serum diamine oxidase (DAO) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-${\alpha}$ levels were measured. Expression of intestinal TNF-${\alpha}$ and tight junction protein (ZO-1) proteins was detected by Western blot and/or immunohistochemistry. Serum DAO level and serum and intestinal TNF-${\alpha}$ leves were significantly increased after I/R, and the values were markedly reduced by curcumin pretreatment although still higher than that of sham group (p<0.05 or p<0.001). H&E staining showed the significant injury to intestinal mucosa following I/R, and curcumin pretreatment significantly improved the histological structure of intestinal mucosa. I/R insult also induced significantly down-regulated expression of ZO-1, and the effect was dramatically attenuated by curcumin-pretreatment. Curcumin may protect the intestine from I/R injury through restoration of the epithelial structure, promotion of the recovery of intestinal permeability, as well as enhancement of ZO-1 protein expression, and this effect may be partly attributed to the TNF-${\alpha}$ related pathway.
