Thermo-mechanical bending response with stretching effect of functionally graded sandwich plates using a novel shear deformation theory

Hayat Saidi,Abdelouahed Tounsi,Mohammed Sid Ahmed Houari,El Abbas Adda Bedia 국제구조공학회 2013 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.15 No.2

This paper presents an analytical solution to the thermomechanical bending analysis of functionally graded sandwich plates by using a new hyperbolic shear deformation theory in which the stretching effect is included. The modulus of elasticity of plates is assumed to vary according to a power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The core layer is still homogeneous and made of an isotropic ceramic material. The effects of functionally graded material (FGM) layer thickness, volume fraction index, layer thickness ratio, thickness ratio and aspect ratio on the deflections and stresses of functionally graded sandwich plates are investigated.

STX0119 Ameliorates Arthritis in SKG Mice via Inhibiting T Helper 17

        Hayat Faisal,이승훈,이은정,김석중,정경아,이순규,윤지희,민준기,조미라,신동윤 한국조직공학과 재생의학회 2016 조직공학과 재생의학 Vol.13 No.1

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease with chronic and excessive inflammation. Upregulation of interleukin (IL)-17 is involved in the pathogenesis of RA. STX0119 is a specific inhibitor of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) as a potential target for the treatment of RA. STAT3 is a member of DNA-binding molecules that regulates the expression of proinflammatory cytokines involved in the pathogenesis of RA. The objective of this study was to determine whether STX0119 could inhibit STAT3 and IL-17. We demonstrated that STX0119 decreased T helper (Th) 17 differentiation and IL-17 expression in vitro. STX0119 also improved the severity of zymosan induced arthritis and reduced joint inflammation. STX0119 reduced the proliferation of Th17 and phosphorylated STAT3 expression while increasing Treg differentiation and phosphorylated STAT5 expression. Moreover, STX0119 decreased the expression of IL-6 and -17 but not IL-10. These findings suggest that STX0119 can be used to treat autoimmune RA through inhibiting the activation of STAT3.

Genome-wide analysis and expression profiling of YUCCA gene family associated with plant vigor in Japanese apricot (prunus mume Sieb. Et zucc)

        Hayat Faisal,Bai Yang,Iqbal Shahid,Ma Chengdong,Ali Muhammad Moaaz,Shahid Muhammad Adnan,Hasan Mahmood Ul,Mosa Walid F. A.,Khan Ummara,Xiao Huang,Gao Zhihong 한국원예학회 2023 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.64 No.5

Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) is an important plant hormone required for various plant growth and developmental activities. YUCCA proteins are the enzymes for IAA synthesis that catalyze the rate-limiting step. However, the YUCCA gene family in Japanese apricot has not been thoroughly characterized. Here, we investigated the eff ect of rootstocks on scion growth of Japanease apricot and genes involved in auxin biosynthesis ( YUCCA ). Growth characteristics revealed that the height of ‘Longyan’ [ Prunus mume Sieb. et Zucc] plants with P. mume rootstock were signifi cantly shorter than ‘Longyan’ plants with P. persica rootstock. This study isolated 13 PmYUCCA genes from the Japanese apricot genome. Bioinformatics and expression studies were undertaken to investigate the functions and characteristics of YUCCA genes. The physicochemical properties, gene structure, conserved domains, conserved motif, and phylogenetic relationships of YUCCA genes were determined using bioinformatics analysis. Likewise, we analyzed the expression of PmYUCCA genes in Japanese apricot’s leaf and stem-bark (scion). The expression levels of PmYUCCA3 and PmYUCCA5 genes were noticeably lower in the leaves of ‘Longyan’/ P. mume graft combination than that of the ‘Longyan’/ P. persica graft combinations, suggesting their distinct roles in regulating growth vigor. This research explores the genome-wide identifi cation, characterization, and possible relationship between growth vigor and expression profi le analysis of the YUCCA gene family in Japanese apricot.

CeSe nanocube anchored on the nanosheet of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) as a binder free electrode for energy conversion system

        Hayat Majid,Ali Bakhat,Yunis Muhammad,Al-Sehemi Abdullah G.,Messali Mouslim,Manzoor Sumaira,Abdullah Muhammad,Alanazi Meznah M.,Abdelmohsen Shaimaa A. M.,Ashiq Muhammad Naeem 한국세라믹학회 2023 한국세라믹학회지 Vol.60 No.4

There is a persistent imbalance between energy demand and supply since renewable energy sources are intermittent. A potential answer to this ongoing problem is the development of suitable materials that could be utilized in storage energy devices. Among all the devices, supercapacitors with effficient electrode material are one of the possible storage technologies. Here in the present work, a cerium selenide/reduced graphene oxide (CeSe/rGO) heterostructure-based electrode is fabricated via hydrothermal technique. The synthesized CeSe/rGO performs well with 810.45 F g −1 specific capacitance at 1.5 A g −1, and an exceptional rate of capability with negligible instability up to 5000th cycles. Additionally, the probable contribution of rGO to the composite's ability to increase supercapacitance through synergy effect of CeSe and rGO has been observed. EIS (Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy) was exploited to fi nd out the mechanism of charge transmission for the fabricated material. The electrochemical analysis indicates that CeSe/rGO exhibited the superior performance than the apparently cutting-edge structures.

      • The Impacts of Macroeconomic and Non-macroeconomic Variables on Stock Return Volatility: An Empirical Investigation of the Tourism Industry

( Hayat Benourrad ),( Hyunjoon Kim ) 한국항공경영학회 2021 한국항공경영학회 춘계학술대회 Vol.2020 No.-

Volatility within the securities market is one of the factors eroding investor trust. Understanding causes that affect stock return volatility is a vital concern for investors, researchers, and portfolio managers. The ability of investors to forecast the long-run macroeconomic and nonmacroeconomic factors that affect stock volatility is extremely important in making profitable investment decisions. Researchers have been trying to understand and predict stock volatility since the global financial crisis of 2008 and its effects on stock markets and the global economy. Theories in finance have strongly related stock volatility to changes in several macroeconomic variables such as capital markets, fluctuations in interest rates, inflation rate, exchange rate, oil prices, and gold prices. Various studies have attempted to establish relations between macroeconomic factors and stock fluctuations. Chen, Roll, and Ross (1986) were the first to use macroeconomic variables to predict stock returns in the United States, using seven macroeconomic variables: term structure, industrial productivity, risk premium, inflation, market return, consumption, and oil prices. Their results showed a positive relationship between macroeconomic variables and expected stock returns. They pointed out that when these selected macroeconomic variables are extremely volatile, they can significantly explain expected returns. Caner and Onder (2005), outline sources of stock volatility as dividend yield, exchange rate, interest rate, inflation rate, and movement of world market index. Abugri (2008); Hwang & Young (2000) identify inflation rate, interest rate, exchange rate, dividend yield, and money supply as notable factors influencing stock volatility. Volatility forecasting research has been for long a hot topic in empirical finance. Nevertheless, in the Tourism field exploring problems in volatility and their resolution across different models have received little interest and still lack proper investigations. While macro-economic factors often affect stock volatility, Uncontrollable circumstances such as pandemics, natural disasters, political events, mega events, and economic crises could have a huge impact on stock volatility. Global tourism and economics have marked a wide range of crises and disastrous events such as the September 11 terrorist attacks (2001), the global economic crisis in 2008/2009, the eruptions of Eyjafjallajökull (2010) that hit hard the equity market and contributed to high volatility. And, the recent COVID-19 crisis has impacted heavily on international travel, tourism demand, and the hospitality industry. The relationship between the tourism industry performance and uncertain non-macroeconomic factors has received limited academic coverage. This study sought to examine the impact of five macro-economic variables namely; interest rate, inflation rate, exchange rate, unemployment rate, and Oil price changes, and other five nonmacroeconomic variables namely; COVID-19 crisis, the U.S Presidential Election, the World Expo, FIFA World Cup, and the Olympics on the stock return volatility of airlines, hotels and restaurant firms in the U.S for a period of 11 years (January 2010 to December 2020). The study results showed that stock return volatility has a significant relationship with all macroeconomic variables. However, only unemployment rate has positively impacted stock return volatility. The results show also that among all non-macroeconomic variables, only the COVID-19 pandemic has a positive significant impact on the stock return volatility. It has been indicated that that the new coronavirus COVID-19 has dramatically affected the performance of the Tourism industry. Airlines, hotels, and restaurants reported a sharp decline in revenues after the emergence of the COVID-19 outbreak. Further explanation is discussed in the paper.

A Novel Framework for Defining and Submitting Workflows to Service-Oriented Systems

( Hayat Bendoukha ),( Yahya Slimani ),( Abdelkader Benyettou ) 한국정보처리학회 2014 Journal of information processing systems Vol.10 No.3

Service-oriented computing offers efficient solutions for executing complex applications in an acceptable amount of time. These solutions provide important computing and storage resources, but they are too difficult for individual users to handle. In fact, Service-oriented architectures are usually sophisticated in terms of design, specifications, and deployment. On the other hand, workflow management systems provide frameworks that help users to manage cooperative and interdependent processes in a convivial manner. In this paper, we propose a workflow-based approach to fully take advantage of new service-oriented architectures that take the users`` skills and the internal complexity of their applications into account. To get to this point, we defined a novel framework named JASMIN, which is responsible for managing service-oriented workflows on distributed systems. JASMIN has two main components: unified modeling language (UML) to specify workflow models and business process execution language (BPEL) to generate and compose Web services. In order to cover both workflow and service concepts, we describe in this paper a refinement of UML activity diagrams and present a set of rules for mapping UML activity diagrams into BPEL specifications.

Novel aryl carbamate derivatives of metronidazole as potential antiamoebic agents

        Hayat Faisal,HUSSAIN MUSTATAB WAHEDI,Seonghyeok Park,Saba Tariq,Amir Azam,신동윤 대한약학회 2016 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.39 No.1

A series of novel aryl carbamate derivatives of metronidazole (MNZ) were designed, synthesized, and screened for antiamoebic activity. As compared to MNZ, most of the derivatives exhibited moderate to excellent activity against the HM1:IMSS strain of Entamoeba histolytica. Compounds 7, 14, 16, 19, and 21 exhibited the most promising antiamoebic activity with IC50 values of 0.24, 0.08, 0.26, 0.26, and 0.15 lM, respectively, compared to that of MNZ (1.78 lM). Moreover, from the toxicological studies of these compounds on human melanocytes, the melan-a cell line revealed that the potent compounds are nontoxic at concentrations ranging from 2.5 to 50 lM.
