        A Comparative Study on Accentual Patterns between Middle Korean and the Current Jeju Korean

The study reports that bi- and tri- syllabic nouns in the Jeju dialect of Korean keeps phonetic features of Middle Korean tone types, whereas no relation was found in the mono-syllabic nouns. The experimental result on 104 nouns which classified by following Middle Korean tone types implies the importance of syllable structure in the tonal change. In this study, the accentual patterns of Jeju Korean follows those of Kyungnam dialect of Korean;low tones change into high accentual patterns, high tones into low patterns, and falling tones into high patterns. But the change occurs in the phonetic level, not in the phonology, in which the H accent could be realized as higher F0 and longer duration. This means that the phonological tone patterns change into the phonetic accent in multi-syllable words. In this study, we can find some possible relationship between Jeju Korean and Middle Korean. It implies that Middle Korean was not a real tonal language. (Konkuk University)

        Effects of Language, Age and English Listening Level on Voicing Perception of English Final Stops

To understand the preceptual change pattern during L2 learning, this study examined the identification correctness of word-final stops and cue robustness for the unit intervals in light of background language, age, and English listening level. The 4 groups of Native Speakers of English, Korean College Students of High Listening Achievement, Korean College Students of Low Listening Achievement, and Korean Elementary Students took part in the experiments. Tokens of /dæp, dæb, dæt, dæd, dæk, dæg/ were extracted and modified into experimental signals composed of two digits (voiced-1, voiceless-0) by following the temporal intervals. In the first experiment of identification correctness of final stops, Native Speakers of English showed almost 100% correctness rate in both environments, while those of Korean showed 70% to 95% correctness rate depending on environments. In this test, neither age nor the listening level influenced significantly the voicing correctness to Korean subjects. In the second experiment of the cue robustness, the group of Korean Elementary students, unlike Korean College students, showed the similar perceptual pattern with that of native English speakers in the released environment. This result strongly suggested that the phonological system of the native language as well as the psycho-linguistic pattern of the universal language deeply influenced L2 perceptual system.       • Nitric Oxide에 의한 난소 과립세포의 Apoptosis 조절에 대한 연구

        여포의 퇴화가 진행되는 기작에서 apoptotic cell death 와 nitric oxide (NO)의 연관성에 관하여 실험하였다. 난소의 apoptosis는 GnRH에 의해 유도되고 스테로이드에 의해 억제된다. 여포에서 과립 세포의 apoptosis에 대한 호르몬의 영향과 NO 생산효과를 조사하기 위하여 중간크기 (직경 5-6 ㎜)의 여포에서 non-apoptotic 과립세포를 분리하여 스테로이드, GnRH agonist, GNRH agonist+SNP, 그리고 NO 공여체인 SNP를 처리하여 24시간동안 배양하였다. 배양된 과립세포에서 게놈 DNA를 추출하여 apoptotic DNA절편화 경향을 알아보았고, 배양액과 griess reagent를 반응시켜 nitrite 농도를 측정하였다. 스테로이드 호르몬을 처리하였을 때, 대조군에 비해 NO 생성이 다소 증가하였으며 apoptotic DNA 절편화도 억제되었다. GnRH agonist 처리군에서는 apoptotic DNA 절편화가 가속화 양상을 나타내었으며 NO 생성은 다소 감소하였다. 그러나 GnRH agonist+SNP 그리고 SNP 처리군에서는 apoptotic DNA 퇴화가 억제되었으며 NO 농도는 대조군에 비해 현저히 높았다. 위의 실험 결과로 보아 과립세포 분화와 여포성숙과 퇴화과정에서 호르몬과 NO가 밀접한 관련이 있는 것으로 사료된다. To study the regulation of porcine follicular cell apoptosis by steroids, GnRH agonist and nitric oxide, we have analyzed DNA fragmentation, the hallmark of apoptosis, and nitrite production in porcine granulosa cells. In, ovarian apoptosis is induced by GnRH but is prevented by steroids. Apoptosis is confined to the granulosa cells but it was not clear whether apoptosis of granulosa cell was regulated by NO in vitro. So non-apoptotic granulosa cells isolated, grown at 37℃, for 24 hrs, and treated with / without SNP, GnRH agonist, and sterioid, respectively. In cultured granulosa cells were used to extract genomic DNA and culture media was assayed for nitrite concentration. Nitrite production of culture media was increased and apoptotic DNA fragmentation was supressed in SNP treated groups, GnRH agonist+SNP, and estrogen, progesterone. Nitrite concentration in culture media was decreased and apoptotic DNA was induced treated with GnRH agonist. These data suggest that NO production and apoptosis may be involved of granulosa cell differentiation and ovarian follicular atresia by SNP, estrogen and progesterone. Moreover, NO can overcome the granulosa cell apoptosis induced by GnRH agonist.

        삭골(Bone shaving)한 골의 재생에 골막이 미치는 영향

        Many orientals have a more prominent malar eminence and mandibular angle than westerners so their faces often look rough and unattracive. In recent years more people want to have a more attractive and beautiful face due to economic prosperity and westernization. Therefore people receiving bone shavings or osteotomies for cosmetic purposes are increasing. The effects of the periosteum on lay bone grafts were investigated but the effect of the periosteum after bone shaving or osteotomy is little known. The authors investigated the effect of the periosteum on the regeneration of bone in membranous and endochondral bone of rabbits. Bony defects each measuring about 5.0×5.0×1.5mm were made on the left and right sides of the parietal bones of 15 rabbits and femurs of 15 other rabbits respectively. The periosteum was preserved on the left and removed on the right. The following results were obtained: 1) The average thickness of the regenerated bones in groups 2 δ4 were thinner than those in groups 1 δ 3 at 4, 8 and 12 weeks postoperatively but the differences of thickness were statistically significant at onl 4weeks postoperatively(P<0.05). 2) The histological findings in groups 2 δ 4 showed lesser regeneration of the shaved bone than those in groups 1 δ 3 at 4, 8 and 12weeks postoperatively. 3) There was no significant increase in the thickness of the regenerated bone after 8 weeks postoperatively in all groups. 4) At 12 weeks postoperatively, the thickness of the regenerated bone in all groups was over 70% of the thickness of the resected bone. In summary, the authors found that it is important to perform overcorrection and resect the periosteum simultaneously in bone shaving to prevent the unwanted regeneration.

        상악 골절단 및 급속구개확장(SARME)을 이용한 술전 치성보상의 해소와 악교정 치험 2례 : REPORT OF 2 CASES

        This is to review the surgically assisted rapid maxillary expansion followed by orthodontic treatment for malocclusion with maxillary narrow-arch. Two patients who presented with narrow-arch maloccluson and transverse maxillary deficiency underwent a Lefort I osteotomy extending to the zygomatico-maxillary but-trees and splitting of the midpalates. Orthopedic expansion was initiated with one complete rotation 0.8㎜ of the expansion screw on the day, and followed by two quarter-turn 0.4㎜ each day thereafter untill the arch expanded to preplanned level. Changes of the mid-incisal gap space. intermolar width. incisal inclination, TMJ symptoms and reapse tendency were examined periodically. After the surgico-orthodontic leveling and alignment. pre-planned orthognathic surgeries (maxillary & mandibular osteotomies) were rendered to correct the maxillofacial deformites. Results:Intermolar width (IMW) was increased to 13㎜ within 20 days and the gap between to cen-tral incisors was declined to5-7^。. There were neither complaints nor signs of TMJ disorders during treatment. The amount of relapse was less than 0.5㎜ in a year. Therefore, the surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion(SARME) can be a pre-orthodontic option to gain the interdental space in narrow-arch malocclusion with crowding and to reduce the labial inclination of upper incisors without extraction of premolars.

        공원묘지 유실에 의한 대량재해의 개인식별

        Individual identification of severely decomposed or skeletonized bodies is an important part in medicolegal field. 142 bodies were torn up and carried away by flood in a park cemetry, Kwang-Ju, Kyunggi province, Korea at Sept., 10, 1990. The authors examed the 56 bodies, which were gained, through medical, anthropological, odontological, radiological methods, and superimposition for individual identification. Among them, 41 cases were successfully identified, and remaining 15 cases were not identified because of sever destruction and no adequate information.

      • 한우에 있어서 GnRH와 PGF_2α에 의한 발정동기화 연구

        This study was conducted to get some information for the timed insemination program development of Korean native cows. Korean native cows that didn't show estrus behavior up to 60days after calving were used. Estrus synchtonization was induced by injection of PGF2α and GnRH. The estrus synchronization rate was 40.0% in treatment of PGF2α- PGF2α and 93.3% in treatment of GnRH- PGF2α -GnRH. All synchronization cows ovulated between 26 and 32hrs after the 2nd injection of GnRH and the highest ovulation rate was shown at 28hrs after the 2nd injection of GnRH. The highest pregnancy rate was shown in case of artificial insemination at 24hrs after the 2nd injection of GnRH. The pregnancy rate was 50.7% in treatment of PGF2α - PGF2α and 76.9% in treatment of GnRH- PGF2α -GnRH.

        Ⅰ. I made this research by the following purposes and necessities. A. Necessity of Research 1. Elementary school teachers show some resistant responses to the curriculum based on the modernized curriculum in elementary school mathematics. 2. The resistant responses in general are as follows; (a) Insufficiencics in understanding of new contents of the curriculum. (b) Inadequacies for the physical and mental development of children. (c) Lacks of systematization in elementary mathematics resulted from the merely scattered enumerations. (d) Inadequacies of considerations for mathematic thinking. 3. It is urgent and quite natural that we should revise the above stated responses and improve the curriculum for the normal development in mathematics by finding out the good materials and the effective application of them. B. Objective of Research According to the above necesity of research, this research does not deal with the evaluation materials simply for the achievement measure, but deals with the closely related evaluation materials in 1. what to teach-a problem in the curriculum, and 2. how to teach-a problem of teaching method. Consequently this is intended to maximized the results of mathematics education by 1. developing the mathematic thinking and 2. finding out the method fit for the physical and mental growth 3. setting up the systematic relations between the earlier, middle and latter grades at the elementary school. Ⅱ. The outline of the research which was performed is as follows A. Collecting and Studying the evaluation materials already developed.(home and abroad) B. Surveying and analysing the resistant responses both in the curriculum and in actual teaching. C. Preliminary survey of children(surroundings, I. Q test etc.) D. Making the evaluation materials. 1. I limit the scope of research infield of set. 2. Framing guidance objectives of the set domain through all the grades of primary school childre. 3. Scheduling dichotomous taxonomy of educational objectives according to the above guidance objectives. 4. Making up evaluation items on the basies of the above taxonomy. 5. The examination of achievements according to the above evaluation data (application to the fouth grade and the sixth grade)
