NMR and electronic inhomogeneity in cuprate superconductors

        J. Haase,G.V.M. Williams 한국물리학회 2006 Current Applied Physics Vol.6 No.3

interpretation of experiments and for theory. NMR is a very versatile method and we show that the NMR data clearly reveal that allcuprates, although to a very dierent extent, show inhomogeneity in the static charge and spin density. While part of the evidence makesthis inhomogeneity appear to be a variation of local doping, other NMR experiments show that the length-scales involved must be on theorder of a few CuCu distances. Estimates of the extent of these variations in dierent materials are given.

      • Controller design and implementation of a three-phase Active Front End using SiC based MOSFETs

        Frerk Haase,Alireza Kouchaki,Morten Nymand 전력전자학회 2015 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.2015 No.6

The design and implementation of a three phase Active Front End for power factor correction purposes using fast switching SiC based MOSFETs is presented. Possible applications are within the drives- and renewable energy sector. The controller is designed and implemented in the synchronous rotating reference frame. Besides the theoretical modelling the controller is optimized through simulations and implemented on a low cost DSP processor using a visual programming language - here MATLAB/SIMULINK - with automatic code generation for embedded targets. The paper illustrates the advantages of power factor correction for an active rectifier in comparison to a passive rectifier. The SiC based power switches thereby offer the possibility of using high switching frequencies leading to a reduction in filter size ? here a simple L filter. The controller is able to validate the simulation results and improve the power factor and THD level significantly.

      • ONCE UPON A TIME THERE WAS A FASHION BRAND–DRIVING LUXURY VALUE PERCEPTION AND CONSUMER BEHAVIOUR VIA STORYTELLING

        Janina Haase,Nadine Hennigs,Jan C. L. König,Klaus-Peter Wiedmann 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2015 Global Fashion Management Conference Vol.2015 No.06

Storytelling has become increasingly of interest for marketing and management in the last years and promises both aesthetic design and effecting consumers’ perception of fashion brands positively. Nevertheless, the complexity of story design, still being rather focussed by the humanities, and its effective adaption for luxury fashion brands regarding value perception and related behavioural consequences are still poorly understood and have not been explored so far. We seek to fill this research gap. In our study, we chose a luxury brand’s existing story and applied story concepts of narratology to rearrange plot, characters, and style first. In a second step, we examined the effect of applying the story concepts by testing the perception of three different groups (no story, original story, and rearranged story). Using PLS path modelling, we proved our hypotheses empirically. Our examination suggests that an application of narrative concepts for creating fashion brand stories has a measurable impact on consumer’s reception and behavioural outcome. On the one hand, this involves dimensions of luxury value, such as financial, functional, individual, and social consumer perceptions as well as an overall likability perception of the brand. On the other hand, this perception obviously impacts consumption habits regarding luxury fashion as much as it is related to recommendation behaviour, willingness to pay a premium price, and purchase intentions. Our findings strongly advice to consult established theories, concepts, and models of the humanities for storytelling in marketing and management. While measuring specific elements already proves their applicability, it will be a major task for theoretical and qualitative research to discuss existing material for the demands of marketing and management as well as (fashion) brands. Even for professionals in brand management, our study advices to have a closer look on traditional storytelling concepts to create effective campaigns. The particular value of our study is to present and empirically verify design elements of storytelling with respect to theoretical narrative approaches, which may have specific impact on certain luxury values and their causal effects on luxury fashion consumption. Our results reflect remarkable implications for luxury brand management as well as future research in luxury fashion, brand management, and marketing storytelling. A luxury company may stimulate purchase behaviour with a storytelling campaign. Nevertheless our study proved that a rather appropriate design, respecting research approaches of narratology, is able to increase the impact on consumers’ perception and behavioural outcome.

Predictive Value of Plasma NGAL:Hepcidin-25 for Major Adverse Kidney Events After Cardiac Surgery with Cardiopulmonary Bypass: A Pilot Study

        Albert Christian,Haase Michael,Albert Annemarie,Ernst Martin,Kropf Siegfried,Bellomo Rinaldo,Westphal Sabine,Braun-Dullaeus Rüdiger C.,Haase-Fielitz Anja,Elitok Saban 대한진단검사의학회 2021 Annals of Laboratory Medicine Vol.41 No.4

Background: Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) and hepcidin-25 are involved in catalytic iron-related kidney injury after cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass. We explored the predictive value of plasma NGAL, plasma hepcidin-25, and the plasma NGAL:hepcidin-25 ratio for major adverse kidney events (MAKE) after cardiac surgery. Methods: We compared the predictive value of plasma NGAL, hepcidin-25, and plasma NGAL:hepcidin-25 with that of serum creatinine (Cr) and urinary output and protein for primary-endpoint MAKE (acute kidney injury [AKI] stages 2 and 3, persistent AKI >48 hours, acute dialysis, and in-hospital mortality) and secondary-endpoint AKI in 100 cardiac surgery patients at intensive care unit (ICU) admission. We performed ROC curve, logistic regression, and reclassification analyses. Results: At ICU admission, plasma NGAL, plasma NGAL:hepcidin-25, plasma interleukin-6, and Cr predicted MAKE (area under the ROC curve [AUC]: 0.77, 0.79, 0.74, and 0.74, respectively) and AKI (0.73, 0.89, 0.70, and 0.69). For AKI prediction, plasma NGAL:hepcidin-25 had a higher discriminatory power than Cr (AUC difference 0.26 [95% CI 0.00–0.53]). Urinary output and protein, plasma lactate, C-reactive protein, creatine kinase myocardial band, and brain natriuretic peptide did not predict MAKE or AKI (AUC <0.70). Only plasma NGAL:hepcidin-25 correctly reclassified patients according to their MAKE and AKI status (category-free net reclassification improvement: 0.82 [95% CI 0.12–1.52], 1.03 [0.29–1.77]). After adjustment to the Cleveland risk score, plasma NGAL:hepcidin-25 ≥0.9 independently predicted MAKE (adjusted odds ratio 16.34 [95% CI 1.77–150.49], P=0.014). Conclusions: Plasma NGAL:hepcidin-25 is a promising marker for predicting postoperative MAKE.

Biomarker-Guided Risk Assessment for Acute Kidney Injury: Time for Clinical Implementation?

        Albert Christian,Haase Michael,Albert Annemarie,Zapf Antonia,Braun-Dullaeus Rüdiger Christian,Haase-Fielitz Anja 대한진단검사의학회 2021 Annals of Laboratory Medicine Vol.41 No.1

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common and serious complication in hospitalized patients, which continues to pose a clinical challenge for treating physicians. The most recent Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes practice guidelines for AKI have restated the importance of earliest possible detection of AKI and adjusting treatment accordingly. Since the emergence of initial studies examining the use of neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) and cycle arrest biomarkers, tissue inhibitor metalloproteinase-2 (TIMP-2) and insulin-like growth factor-binding protein (IGFBP7), for early diagnosis of AKI, a vast number of studies have investigated the accuracy and additional clinical benefits of these biomarkers. As proposed by the Acute Dialysis Quality Initiative, new AKI diagnostic criteria should equally utilize glomerular function and tubular injury markers for AKI diagnosis. In addition to refining our capabilities in kidney risk prediction with kidney injury biomarkers, structural disorder phenotypes referred to as “preclinical-” and “subclinical AKI” have been described and are increasingly recognized. Additionally, positive biomarker test findings were found to provide prognostic information regardless of an acute decline in renal function (positive serum creatinine criteria). We summarize and discuss the recent findings focusing on two of the most promising and clinically available kidney injury biomarkers, NGAL and cell cycle arrest markers, in the context of AKI phenotypes. Finally, we draw conclusions regarding the clinical implications for kidney risk prediction.

      • Continuous generation of bijel microparticles, fibers and films using solvent transfer-induced phase separation (STRIPS)

( Martin F. Haase ),( Nima Sharifi Mood ),( Kathleen J. Stebe ),이대연 한국공업화학회 2015 한국공업화학회 연구논문 초록집 Vol.2015 No.0

Bicontinuous interfacially jammed emulsions (Bijels) are novel soft materials with potential applications in areas ranging from healthcare, cosmetics, and food to energy and diverse chemical technologies. However, their fabrication is currently limited to only two pairs of immiscible liquids with narrow temperature windows for their formation. In such systems, typical bicontinuous domain sizes are in the range of tens of micrometers, and fabrication is inefficient due to its batch-wise nature and expensive starting materials. We explore the formation of bijels by mass transfer induced ternary liquid-liquid phase separation. The use of commercially available silica nanoparticles and ionic surfactants allows us to continuously form bijel fibers and membranes with controllable morphologies and domain sizes down to only a few hundreds of nanometers. We study the dependence of fiber morphology on different control parameters such as particle and surfactant concentration. The hierarchical morphology of STRIPS bijels open avenues to new applications such as interfacial catalysis.
