      • THE INTERPLAY BETWEEN ROBOT DESIGN, CUSTOMER PERCEPTIONS AND SERVICE OUTCOMES: A FSQCA PERSPECTIVE

        Prior social robotics research has shown that robot design influences if people perceive a robot as friendly, trustworthy, or safe (Castro-Gonzalez et al., 2016; Rosenthal-Von Der P?tten & Kr?mer, 2014). Meanwhile, recent conceptual work has suggested that social robots will increasingly be used in the front line of service encounters (Gonzalez-Jimenez, 2018; Van doorn et al., 2017). According to The International Journal of Social Robotics social robots are robots that can communicate and interact with humans, among themselves, and with the environment, within the cultural and social structure assigned to its role. Real examples of the inclusion of these robots in retail settings already exist. For instance, some retailers use Softbank´s robot Pepper to greet and inform customers. Social robots such as Pepper can use their sensors and cameras to interpret customer reactions and adapt accordingly. Moreover, the robot can even make product recommendations based on the assessed customer´s mood, age, gender and, if available, purchase history (McKenna, 2018). Not surprisingly, there is a vast market potential associated with these robots, which is expected to grow to 87 billion by 2025 (BCG, 2017).

      • THE ROLE OF MATERIALISM AND SOCIAL COMPARISON IN CLOTHING CHOICES

        Individuals use material possessions such as clothes as a means to express their individual predispositions, values and position in their social environment (Kaiser et al., 2001). Evidence indicates that various individual differences such as hormone levels, body image perception and a cosmopolitan orientation influence clothing choices (Eisenbruch et al., 2015, Frith and Gleeson, 2004, Gonzalez-Jimenez, 2016). Moreover, body satisfaction, body mass index and trait self-objectification determine if individuals choose clothes for specific purposes such as fashion, comfort or camouflage (Tiggemann and Andrew, 2012). However, while these studies have made an important step towards understanding the influence of individual characteristics on clothing choices, there is a lack of studies that investigate the role of individuals’ materialist tendencies and propensity to engage in social comparison. We extend prior research on clothing choices by examining the associations between individuals’ materialist tendencies and social comparison propensity with sought clothing functions (i.e., fashion, comfort, etc.). Findings show that materialist individuals seek clothing for specific functions such as fashion, individuality and assurance, while avoiding clothes designed for comfort. Individuals’ propensity to engage in social comparison is linked with choosing clothes for fashion, individuality and assurance, but not for camouflage and comfort. Our study confirms that materialism and social comparison drive individuals to seek very specific clothing functions. Specifically, findings suggest that individuals use specific clothing types as a medium to establish their position in a social environment and to express their materialistic tendencies. Gender influences the tested relationships.

        Laboratory and field performance of Trichopria drosophilae reared on Drosophila melanogaster and D. Suzukii

        Two colonies of the parasitoid Trichopria drosophilae (Perkins) (Hymenoptera: Diapriidae) are reproduced using a mass rearing approach in Mexico. The first colony uses the worldwide commercial host Drosophila melanogaster Meigen (Diptera: Drosophilidae) reared on an artificial diet (=T. drosophilae-Dm), while the second colony uses D. suzukii Matsumura reared on fresh banana (=T. drosophilae-Ds). Since theoretically the type of colony host affects parasitoid field performance, we conducted concatenated laboratory and field studies of both parasitoid lines. In the laboratory trials, T. drosophilae-Ds exhibited greater longevity, larger adult size, and higher fecundity than T. drosophilae-Dm. Both lines of parasitoids oviposited indistinctly in three drosophilid species commonly found in the berry zones of Colima: D. melanogaster, D. suzukii, and Zaprionus indianus Gupta. In the field trials, T. drosophilae-Ds had a larger population size and provided 2.4-fold higher pest reduction compared to T. drosophilae-Dm. Under the particular conditions of these field trials (berry fields separate from each other ≤ 3 km, and intensive agronomic management), these results demonstrate that T. drosophilae-Ds can significantly contribute more to the integrated management of D. suzukii than when reared on the commercial host D. melanogaster.

        El peligro de Licenciar Los sentidos: La muralla del Castillo Interior de Santa Teresa de Jesus, segun Fray Juan de Rojas

        En estas breves paginas queremos exponer el desarrollo que del espacio arquitectonico de las Moradas teresianas, y en lo que se refiere a la cerca, engaste o muralla del Castillo interior, realiza Fray Juan de Rojas en sus Representaciones misticas, como consecuencia de la utilizacion del sistema mnemotecnico. Mientras en Santa Teresa podemos observar una muralla apenas esbozada, dentro de esa correlacion de espacios/lugares y etapas de la vida espiritual y de oracion (expresadas en variopintas imagenes), en Rojas comprobaremos su construccion minuciosa, donde las imagenes agentes, bajo la forma de estatuas emblematizadas de los sentidos, constituyen las piezas memoristicas fundamentales que rematan la arquitectura de las cinco portadas sobre las cinco puertas de los cinco sentidos corporales en esa cerca, y por las que se accede al alma. Un claro esquema de agregacion simbolica. El ejercicio, la accion, de cada una de las imagenes senala el cuidado y la dinamica a seguir en la lucha ascetica contra la sensualidad, en el camino mistico de la espiritualidad barroca. Confirmamos, con la mayor precision arquitectonica del lugar y de las imagenes percusivas de Rojas, las teorias que ya expusieron de manera general, siguiendo la obra de F. Yates, los pioneros F. J. Chorpenning y M. Gerli, en el ambito norteamericano, y A. Egido y F. R. de la Flor, en Espana, sobre la estructuracion mnemotecnica de las Moradas de Santa Teresa.

        Experimental validation of the seismic analysis methodology for free-standing spent fuel racks

        Spent fuel racks are steel structures used in the storage of the spent fuel removed from the nuclear powerreactor. Rack units are submerged in the depths of the spent fuel pool to keep the fuel cool. Their freestandingdesign isolates their bases from the pool floor reducing structural stresses in case of seismicevent. However, these singular features complicate their seismic analysis which involves a transientdynamic response with geometrical nonlinearities and fluid-structure interactions. An accurate estimationof the response is essential to achieve a safe pool layout and a reliable structural design. Ananalysis methodology based on the hydrodynamic mass concept and implicit integration algorithms wasdeveloped ad-hoc, but some dispersion of results still remains. In order to validate the analysis methodology,vibration tests are carried out on a reduced scale mock-up of a 2-rack system. The two rackmockups are submerged in free-standing conditions inside a rigid pool tank loaded with fake fuel assembliesand subjected to accelerations on a unidirectional shaking table. This article compares theexperimental data with the numerical outputs of a finite element model built in ANSYS Mechanical. Thein-phase motion of both units is highlighted and the water coupling effect is detailed. Results show agood agreement validating the methodology.

      • Spanish Lexical Acquisition via Morpho-Semantic Constructive Derivational Morphology

        This paper describes an algorithm for Spanish derivational morphology whose output is generalizable to two different lexicon acquisition situations. One is the process of automatic lexicon acquisition via the use of Morpho-Semantic Lexical Rules (MSLRs), (Viegas, Gonzalez, & Longwell 1996) usable in semantically based Natural Language Processing(Nirenburg, et a1 1996) in order to considerably reduce acquisition time per entry in a large-scale semi-automatic acquisition environment (Viegas, Onyshkevych, Raskin, & Nirenhurg 1966b). The other is its application in the language classroom to fascilitate vocabulary acquisition for second language learning students. It is an ancillary tool to be used in reading or writing tasks. The constructive approach used in the design of this tool addresses the overlap between the morphological and semantic criteria while implicitly addressing morpho-phonological phenomena. The objective is accomplished by means of three major strategies: pre-categorized base stems. inherited stem changes, and eight separately identified patterns of attachment which produce noun, adjective, verb and adverb subsets. These mechanisms produce words depending on whether the word structure is right-headed or left-headed, based on the type of affix producing Morpho-Semantic Lexical Rules (MSLRs) used and on the sequence in which affix attachments succeed. The set of MSLRs, approximately 151, produces words with their respective semantic component for the morpheme or sequence of morphemes. thus defining each derivational paradigm. ``Their product includes not only simple and complex affixation but also word compounding, allow-ing also overgeneration of derived forms for broader coverage of written and oral word forms. Unnecessary overgeneration of output paradigms can be automatically checked against the contents of machine readable dictionaries and against electronic texts. The tool includes a Graphical User Interface (GUl) in order to facilitate the vocabulary acquisition process for the L2 learner of Spanish.

        Intraneural Venous Malformations of the Median Nerve

        Venous malformations arising from the peripheral nerve are a rare type of vascular malformation. We present the first case of an intraneural venous malformation of the median nerve to be reported in a child and review the previous two cases of median nerve compression due to a venous malformation that have been reported. These cases presented with painless masses in the volar aspect of the wrist or with symptoms suggestive of carpal tunnel syndrome. Clinical suspicion should lead to the use of Doppler ultrasonography as the first-line diagnostic tool. Magnetic resonance imaging and histopathology can confirm the diagnosis, as phleboliths are pathognomonic of venous malformations. Surgical treatment appears to be the only modality capable of successfully controlling the growth of an intraneural malformation. Sclerotherapy and radiotherapy have never been used to treat this type of malformation.
