      • 한국어 쓰기 교육 - 터키인 초급 학습자를 중심으로

        ( Goksel Turkozu ) 중국한국(조선)어교육연구학회 2004 한국(조선)어교육연구 Vol.2 No.-

In this paper we studied how the contents of teaching Korean Composition to students studying Korean Language at the university at basic level should be and investigated the requirements of the content that should be created in teaching Korean language at basic level and the methods of such creation. At the end of this paper the content of teaching how to write a composition in Korean language has been prepared based on the results of the comparisons made between Turkish and Korean. In this paper we focused on how composition writing should be taught at basic level and on how Turkish students learning Korean could improve their new language. In Turkey Korean is only taught at the university level. At present approximately 40 students study Korean at the University of Ankara, where Korean is being taught since 1989. Up to present time the issue of writing compositions in Korean has not been investigated adequately and composition lessons were taught at higher levels, such as 3rd and 4th classes and only in form of translations from Turkish to Korean or from Korean to Turkish. In order to improve the language skills of Turkish students learning Korean writing skills or compositions in other words, which form an essential part of effective language teaching should start at elementary level. In order to teach writing compositions in Korean effectively a teaching content based on data obtained from genders of compositions by comparing Korean with Turkish should be prepared. In Turkey the number of people wishing to learn Korean is increasing everyday. Therefore, we think teaching Korean should mainly be based on writing compositions.

The Relationship between Vitamin D and Coronary Artery Ectasia in Subjects with a Normal C-Reactive Protein Level

        Goksel Cagirci,Selcuk Kucukseymen,Isa Oner Yuksel,Nermin Bayar,Erkan Koklu,Ramazan Guven,Sakir Arslan 대한심장학회 2017 Korean Circulation Journal Vol.47 No.2

Background and Objectives: Vitamin D is generally known to be closely related to inflammation. The effects of vitamin D on coronary artery disease (CAD) are not fully explained. Nowadays, coronary artery ectasia (CAE) cases are common and are regarded as being a kind of CAD. We aimed to investigate, in a case-control study, the relationship between vitamin D and CAE without an associated inflammatory process. Subject and Methods: This study population included 201 patients (CAE group, 121 males; mean age, 61.2±6.4 years) with isolated CAE; and 197 healthy individuals (control group, 119 males; mean age, 62.4±5.8 years), comprising the control group, who had normal coronary arteries. These participants concurrently underwent routine biochemical tests, tests for inflammatory markers, and tests for 25-OH vitamin D in whole-blood draws. These parameters were compared. Results: There are no statistical significance differences among the groups for basic clinical characteristics (p>0.05). Inflammatory markers were recorded and compared to exclude any inflammatory process. All of them were similar, and no statistical significance difference was found. The average parathyroid hormone (PTH) level of patients was higher than the average PTH level in controls (41.8±15.1 pg/mL vs. 19.1±5.81 pg/mL; p<0.001). Also, the average 25-OH vitamin D level of patients was lower than the average 25-OH vitamin D level of controls (14.5±6.3 ng/mL vs. 24.6±9.3 ng/mL; p<0.001). In receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, the observed cut-off value for vitamin D between the control group and patients was 10.8 and 85.6% sensitivity and 75.2% specificity (area under the curve: 0.854, 95% confidence interval: 0.678-0.863). Conclusion: We found that there is an association between vitamin D and CAE in patients who had no inflammatory processes. Our study may provide evidence for the role of vitamin D as a non-inflammatory factor in the pathophysiology of CAE.

Protective Ability of Ethanol Extracts of Hypericum scabroides Robson & Poulter and Hypericum triquetrifolium Turra against Protein Oxidation and DNA Damage

        Goksel Kızıl,Murat Kızıl,Bircan Ceken 한국식품과학회 2009 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.18 No.1

The present study was conducted to determine the protective ability of the ethanol extracts of Hypericum scabroides Robson & Poulter (HS) and Hypericum triquetrifolium Turra (HT) against the protein oxidation and DNA damage induced by Fenton system. The ability of HS and HT to prevent oxidative damage to bovine serum albumin (BSA) induced by Fe³?+/H₂O₂ and ascorbic acid was investigated. The ethanol extracts of HS and HT at different concentrations (50-1,000 ㎍/㎖) efficiently prevented protein oxidation induced by hydroxy radical as assayed by protein oxidation markers including protein carbonyl formation (PCO) and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The effect of ethanol extracts of HS and HT on DNA cleavage induced by UV-photholysis of H₂O₂ using pBluescript M13+ plasmid DNA were investigated. These extracts significantly inhibited DNA damage induced by reactive oxygen species (ROS). Therefore, HS and HT extracts may be useful in the food industry as effective synthetic antioxidants.

      • Planning of Nuclear Medicine in Turkey: Current Status and Future Perspectives

Goksel, Fatih,Peksoy, Irfan,Koc, Orhan,Gultekin, Murat,Ozgul, Nejat,Sencan, Irfan Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.5

Background and Purpose: An analysis of the current nuclear medicine (NM) status and future demand in Turkey in line with the international benchmarks was conducted to establish a comprehensive baseline reference. Methods: Data from all NM centers on major equipment and manpower in Turkey were collected through a survey and cross-checked with the primary research and governmental data. Data regarding manpower currently working were obtained from the relevant academic centers and occupational societies. Results: The current numbers of NM laboratories, NM specialists, gamma cameras, PET/CT scanners, radioiodine treatment units for thyroid cancer are 217, 474, 287, 75 and 39, respectively. There was personnel and equipment need underestimated in the field compared to developed countries. Equipment insufficiency was more significant in the Ministry of Health (MoH) hospitals. These gaps should be eliminated with strategic planning of equipment and NM laboratories. Currently, the number of the PET/CT devices is at the level of the developed countries. The number of specialists in the field should reach the expected goal in 2023. By 2023, Turkey will need around 820 NM specialists, 498 gamma cameras and 99 PET/CT devices. In addition, further studies should be made regarding other related staff, particularly for health physicians, radiopharmacists and NM technicians. Conclusion: There is an insufficiency of personnel and equipment in Turkey's NM field. Comprehensive strategic planning is required to allocate limited resources and the purchase of the equipment and employment policies should be structured as part of "National Special Feature Requiring Health Service Plan".

A Comparison of Models for Predicting Discretionary Accruals: A Cross-Country Analysis

ACAR, Goksel,COSKUN, Ali Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.9

In this study, we examined various aspects of discretionary accruals. We compared the power of Jones Model (JM), Modified Jones Model (MJM) and Performance Matched Model (PMM). Furthermore, we tested whether accruals derived from cash flow approach or balance sheet approach provide better results and we investigated the significance of country and industry control variables in models. In order to perform these tests, we constructed thirty equations. The data consists of 319 non-financial companies over five years in the GCC region. We used panel data regression models, and testing suggests us to use random effect model as the most suitable one. The results show that PMM has the highest explanatory power among models and it is followed by JM and MJM, consecutively. Secondly, results reveal that accruals derived from cash flow approach provide more accurate results. Moreover, country dummies are significant in models with cash flow approach and they lose significance in balance sheet approach. We differentiated industries due to two different classifications: the first group with higher number of industries is more precise compared to the second group with a narrower scope and lower number of industries. The model including both industrial and country-wise dummies scores highest in significance.

      • Cultural Diversity and Bilingual Education in Republic of Turkey

        S. Goksel Turkozu 인하대학교 다문화융합연구소 2019 다문화와 교육 Vol.4 No.2

The Turkish nation established two major states in western Asia, Seljuk and Ottoman. In the 17th century, when the territory of the Ottoman Empire was at its largest, its borders reached the vast majority of Asia, Europe and Africa. The expansion of the borders has increased the cultural diversity. When the Ottoman Empire collapsed after World War I, the Republic of Turkey was founded and has continued this cultural diversity. For this reason, Turkish society has a multicultural structure. Not only various ethnicities exist but also religions are diverse. Turkey's official language is Turkish but since it is a multicultural society many languages are spoken. This study will examine the structure of cultural diversity and multiculturalism in Turkey. South Korea's multicultural structure will also be briefly mentioned. The study will then mention the bilingual education in Turkey.
