Learning through collaboration: student perspectives

This research examines the effectiveness of collaborative learning pedagogies from the perspective of students. There is a rich history of research on collaborative learning demonstrating the effectiveness and this has led to indexing educational quality by student engagement. However, the findings from this study question the efficacy of collaborative pedagogies in their actual implementation. While collaboration was a part of the most highly rated learning experiences, these pedagogies were typically described as ineffective. Key factors that students see associated with effective collaboration are reported. The students' perceptions of learning as reflected in their comments on collaborative learning, implications for setting expectations for college learning, and needs for faculty development are discussed.

This study aimed to numerically investigate the parametric effects of fin geometry on the heat transfer characteristics of 72 V electronic control unit (ECU) heatsink for an electric three-wheeler. The temperature distribution, fin efficiency, and thermal resistance of the 72 V ECU heatsink were compared by varying the fin geometry parameters, including fin thickness, number, height, and depth. The maximum cooling performance was observed for the proposed fin arrangement with a fin thickness of 2.1 mm, fin number of 60, fin height of 16 mm, and fin depth of 8 mm, in comparison with the existing heatsink model. The proposed 72 V ECU heatsink model was validated with the experimental results of the existing heatsink model and indicated a good agreement within ±4.97 %. The optimized ECU heatsink enhanced the heat transfer performance, thereby decreasing the temperatures of the heatsink, capacitor, and metal-oxidesemiconductor field-effect transistor for the proposed 72 V ECU heatsink model by 16.88 %, 12.71 % and 18.95 %, respectively, in comparison with the existing heatsink model.
A New Perspective on the Quality of Life of Children with Glycogen Storage Diseases

Purpose: This study aimed to assess the quality of life (QoL) of children with glycogen storage disease (GSD) and their parents and to determine the impact of myopathies. Methods: A prospective case-control study was conducted at the Cairo University Children’s Hospital and National Liver Institute, Menoufia University. A promising new style of questionnaire called the Stark Quality of Life Questionnaire was used to assess the quality of life. Results: Fifty-two children diagnosed with GSD (cases) and 55 age- and sex-matched healthy children (controls) were included. A statistically significant difference was found between cases and controls regarding food intake; mental behavior parameters such as mood, energy, and social contact; and physical behavior parameters such as running and tying shoelaces. Children with myopathies had significantly lower QoL scores in most of the parameters. Conclusion: GSDs alter children and their parents’ mental and physical abilities. Lower QoL scores were detected in children with both skeletal myopathy and cardiomyopathy, but the difference was not statistically significant when compared with the children without myopathies.

<P>Non-noble-metal, thin-film oxides are widely investigated as promising catalysts for oxygen evolution reactions (OER). Amorphous cobalt oxide films electrochemically formed in the presence of borate (CoBi) and phosphate (CoPi) share a common cobaltate domain building block, but differ significantly in OER performance that derives from different electron-proton charge transport properties. Here, we use a combination of L edge synchrotron X-ray absorption (XAS), resonant X-ray emission (RXES), resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS), resonant Raman (RR) scattering, and high-energy X-ray pair distribution function (PDF) analyses that identify electronic and structural factors correlated to the charge transport differences for CoPi and CoBi. The analyses show that CoBi is composed primarily of cobalt in octahedral coordination, whereas CoPi contains approximately 17% tetrahedral Co(II), with the remainder in octahedral coordination. Oxygen-mediated 4<I>p</I>-3<I>d</I> hybridization through Co-O-Co bonding was detected by RXES and the intersite <I>dd</I> excitation was observed by RIXS in CoBi, but not in CoPi. RR shows that CoBi resembles a disordered layered LiCoO<SUB>2</SUB>-like structure, whereas CoPi is amorphous. Distinct domain models in the nanometer range for CoBi and CoPi have been proposed on the basis of the PDF analysis coupled to XAS data. The observed differences provide information on electronic and structural factors that enhance oxygen evolving catalysis performance.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

프로그램에 취약성이 없다는 것을 증명하는 것은 거의 불가능하다. 또한 현재 보안을 위해서는 인증과 접근제어, 암호화를 이용하지만 이러한 단순한 보안 기술은 버퍼오버 플로우와 같은 프로그램의 취약성을 이용한 공격에 대해 적절한 방어 대응을 할 수 없다. 그러므로 현재 위협적인 공격으로부터 중요한 기능을 지속적으로 제공하여 시스템 방어능력의 향상을 위한 생존성에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 동적협동은 이러한 생존성 연구의 일부분으로 생존성 기능을 가진 각 프로그램들이 동적환경에서 협동할 수 있는 환경을 제공해주는 기술에 대한 연구이다. 본 논문에서는 동적협동에 대한 분석을 통해 동적협동의 아키텍처와 각 구성요소의 기능에 대해 제시한다.

현재의 보안활동은 침입방지, 침입탐지 및 패치 제공과 같은 수동적인 보안이 주로 수행된다. 그러나 소프트웨어에서 취약성이 존재하지 않는다는 것을 증명하는 것은 불가능한 일이다. 침입감내 시스템은 수동적인 보안이 아닌 적극적인 보안의 개념으로 침입이 발생하더라도 시스템이 제공하는 서비스를 지속적으로 제공하는 것을 목표로 하고 무결성과 가용성을 강조하는 개념이다. 본 논문에서는 현재 진행 중인 침입감내 시스템에 대한 프로젝트에 대해 알아보고 침입감내 시스템에 대해 계층기반과 복제기반으로 분류를 수행한다. 그리고 계층기반과 복제기반은 프로그램과 데이터의 관점에서 나누어 분류하고 각 4가지 분류에서 고려해야할 기술적 기능적 특징을 알아본다.
